It was a challenge, but it was a great learning experience. Possibly the most difficult part about making this video was animating each individual lyric and the timing.

It's rare to see papyrus as a main character in videos. People usually make him naive or gullible, but aside from that, I really think this song fits papyrus well. Personally, I think of papyrus as someone who always pretends to be happy and always tries to be optimistic in all sorts of situations and finds good in it, just like the dialogue he had during his phone calls at the end of a neutral run(which differs depending on who you gave mercy or killed). I really think he's well aware of the situation, yet he still tried to find good in it, just like during genocide when the player kills him ;_; ... he even gave the player some advice during his last words Q_Q
*whipes tears* Anyway, this video was nicely done, I can see all the effort being put into it. And, thanks for making him the main character! (When I read your description, I agreed on what you said that the main character is usually sans)
Lilly Pop and here's why Papyrus is such a great character to me. Not my favorite, but still a very good character. I always hate when he's portrayed as dumb, because he's not.

At the end of Deltarune we actually get to hear from Sans that he's trying to find friends for Papyrus to play with, implying that Papyrus hasn't left their house ever since they moved into town (Different universe than Undertale).

I think papyrus is a vary underrated character. he's often painted as the naïve and gullible one, with sans being the one with everything on his shoulders. but I don't think that's true.
papyrus is definitely one of my favorite characters (not just in undertale) so thank you so much for making this. its beautiful and definitely took a lot of work.
It’s not necessarily that Papyrus is underrated, it’s just that Sans is so overrated that no other Undertale characters get attention.
Also, here’s a fun fact: Most comics involving Papyrus are all: haha skeleton doesn’t like puns, but papyrus cracks over double the puns sans does.

Thank you for making this, finally someone makes a video that gives papyrus his credit. I do believe that papyrus is a lot smarter and more emotionally conflicted then we give him credit for. And it's really hard to find a papyrus being like that. But people make him an ignorant happy idiot and it's not fair! So thank you for giving credit to him.

Bluestarfan10 Finally, the only person I know who agrees with me! I think that Papyrus is just putting on a Facade, with his goofy personality, so sans does not worry. Thing is, Papyrus is still a very kind person. I believe that in game you kill Papyrus very early in a Genocide run, if he saw that you slaughtered the underground, that would push him over the line and he would freak out. Being way more powerful than Sans. That's personally what I think. Sorry for going on a nerd rant!

Honestly when I saw the title I didn't think it suit Papyrus that well. But after watching the video and reading the description i realized that this fits papyrus almost better than any other Undertale character. This is great animation and one of my favorite Vocaloid songs, amazing work!!!

I'm glad I found this! Honestly I love the song as it is and I absolutely love Papyrus but most people completely ignore is character and it isn't fair. They just put him as a innocent kid and move on as if that's all he is. That's like saying a flower only has petals and that's all they are. The flower is much more than that.

I have this theory that maybe Sans isn't the only one that's breaking inside. Maybe Papyrus is tired of always trying to stay happy and it's slowly turning him insane. I think it's just me, but Papyrus seems too perfect for it not to be an act.
LilyisEpic that's what this song is supposed to represent, it shows that papyrus is silently suffering inside just like sans, he tries so hard to want people to like him but everyone thinks he's annoying or too oblivious which makes him depressed.
I was expecting this to be cringy, but the lively animation and the fact this fits so well for Papyrus is just awesome. You earned a like and sub.

man I love seeing Papyrus go through horrible stuff. not that I enjoy it like a maniac, I mean I just love it because everyone always pays attention to Sans. Sans this, Sans that, I want to see a Rolling Alphys someday. Papyrus just, has the most creepiest stuff about him if you pay attention to a lot of the Gaster stuff, and dialog and more in the game. and it's all canon then the Sans shit, that isn't even canon!

I just want to say thank you for making this -- I could go on for hours that Papyrus is 10x deeper than he gets credit for. Nobody can actually be that happy. Nobody. It's just so apparent to me that all that outward cheerfulness and narcissism is a facade for someone who's much deeper and much more damaged on the inside. It's a coping mechanism, because by putting all his energy into pretending to be happy - for Sans, for Undyne, for everyone - it makes it easier to forget what hurts.

May i ask "what does Chara represent here"? We don't see a lot of them but..I'm curious because of the choice of putting them at the same place than Sans. Not a lot of people do that because "Chara kills Papyrus and Sans hates them" (opinion i disagree with) but with Rolling Papyrus, i can't find what is the meaning of it. So..I though i could ask you!
And for the end, in my opinion there's two options.
1- Papyrus was saved:
Frisk beats Asriel and saves their best friend Papyrus, showing him he's loved and accomplish his dreams.
2- Papyrus is spared in a genocide run:
Frisk would decide to leave the genocide run and spare Papyrus remembering the good time they had together.
After that they may reset (that would be why they hug and it looks like we are going back to the start) or continue the path without killing.
Hiya! That's a good question, I didn't think that anyone would ask honestly;;
I decided to put Chara in the same place as Sans because some people take Frisk' actions and say that Chara did it, kinda like with Papyrus and Sans.
One example is this popular headcanon: "During Papyrus' fight, Sans is the one who floats Frisk's soul high enough to go over the huge bone." I'm pretty sure it was Papyrus who did it though, since he's the one who turned their soul blue, and he's not the type to make someone dodge something extremely unfair. Not only that, but if for some reason Frisk can't jump high enough, Papyrus will lower the bone so that they will not get hit.
People often blame Chara for murdering everyone in the underground, even though in the beginning (like in the Ruins), Frisk has complete control of their own body. Though this depends from theory to theory...
People just like taking what Papyrus and Frisk have done, and giving it to Sans and Chara.
(Though, a much less thought out explanation would probably be "Chara and Frisk are humans and Sans and Papyrus are skeleton monsters" eh-heh;;)
Your interpretations for the end are great! In a way, both are very close to what I was thinking! 2 is what I was originally going for, but 1 makes a lot of sense, especially for the Lost Soul hints ( >wo)

I like the headcanon of how both sans and papyrus can feel gaster’s presence. Sans is just tired so he tells that his aware but papyrus pretends to not be aware of what is happening.

This is so beautifully animated, even though I don't feel like it fits Papyrus's character that much. . . I'm amazed at all the work it took to make this beautiful animation. So even though I do not agree with having the main character being Papyrus, man, the animation makes up for it.

I just think the song itself might be more related to Sans.
In my eyes, Sans is an amazing brother. I feel like the reason why Papyrus is so confident and happy is because Sans tells him every single day that he is cool, amazing, great, and worth it. Whenever Papyrus would feel even remotely depressed at the fact that they are stuck underground, Sans would tell Papyrus it's alright, give him hope, tell him he is too great to be bothered by things like that, and so on. Because of this, Papyrus becomes a bit too overly confident about himself, and thinks he's. . . well, a lot stronger than he really is. It's also the reason why Papyrus is such a cinnamon roll and he's too happy and pure for this world. It's all because of how amazing Sans is, to make his brother happy everyday.
Just like the other characters in the game, Sans tells jokes to hide the hurt inside. Papyrus thinks Sans is just lazy, and that's the only reason why he acts that way, but really. . . Sans spends most of his time at the bar. . . he is very tired and "lazy" all the time.

Well, basically, point being. . . Papyrus is not hurt inside that he has no friends. Because I believe he WAS hurt once, but Sans came in and told him why he shouldn't be. Because of Sans, Papyrus is NOT hurt inside. I heard however, if you continually insult Papyrus during the battle, he does change, he seems to be hurt but putting up with it. . . I of course didn NOT do that because I love Papyrus XD
I feel like the song connects more to Sans than it does to Papyrus. I can see why Papyrus could also work for this. . . but the song "Rolling girl" is way too dark and depressing to fit Papyrus's overconfident, positive, cheerful cinnamon roll character. In the end of Rolling girl, Miku hugs her personified form of depression and gives in, finally commiting suicide. Papyrus' Character is FAR from that.
Now that I mention it, Rolling girl can fit both Sans AND Alphys. Alphys fits perfectly as well.

I still love this video very much, I'm not trying to criticize it, because I think you did such a good job on it. I just wanted to say that I think Sans or Alphys would have fit better with the lyrics to the song rather than Papyrus. :)

I did mention that I did not intend for Rolling Girl to be about depression and suicide in this video, and that there is a much different interpretation for it in this.
As much as I love Sans, I felt that there were more than enough animations and creative works featuring him as the main character, and I wanted to do something with someone else. It saddened me a bit that it's common for people to write Papyrus as nothing but a cinnamon roll and that he cannot "feel a bit down" as Sans puts it. People don't give him a lot of credit as his own character, and just use him as an emotional support for Sans (or worse, they just kill him off to develop Sans' character, yikes o-o).
I wanted to show a deeper side of Papyrus that people overlook, especially if they don't read his phone calls or realize that no one really knows _anything_ about Papyrus and his past. None of the cast even knew what his favorite food was! Well, except for Flowey XD
Heck, Papyrus has the most dialogue in the game (other than the narrator) and players really know next to nothing about him.
A lot of what Papyrus tells to Frisk whenever Sans isn't present shows a lot of himself that he probably wouldn't show normally.
I would have liked to have used Alphys, however
1) This interpretation of Rolling Girl wouldn't have fit as well as it would have for Papyrus
2) Alphys is really, really hard to animate (my goodness, I can barely draw her consistently eh-heh;;)

Alphys is the second hardest character to draw for me. . . Asgore is the first, I can never get his hair right XD

The less human shaped characters I still need to get use to drawing. Like Undyne and Mettaton EX are much easier since their bodies are pretty human-ish.

Playing the game for the first time I totally fell in love with Papyrus lol, right now he's my favorite character in general, not just in the Undertale universe. Not sure why I connected with him so much, I didn't know anything about him going into the game, and I was expecting Sans to be the one I would like since Sans is so well known and everyone focuses on him. But I just love Papyrus, I like how ambitious he is, and so sweet, I think of him as a deeper character than he leads on to be, and this video perfectly captures that. I just can't stop watching this video, it's so good. 1000000/10 :)

I remember i watched this for the first time what seemed like so long ago, and i still remember how much of an impact it had on me at the time. I don't know why, but it just did. One reason may be because I'm practically obsessed with Papyrus. I guess i made such a big deal out of it because I watched it so late at night, fell asleep shortly after, and woke up, thinking it was all a dream. Heck, i even wrote a journal entry on it! It was a weird, but interesting experience i had. Very well done video!

I simply love this video you've made! It portrays a completely different side of Papyrus's character that many of us don't realize it exists, which I found absolutely amazing. It gives us a much more deeper view into his character and makes him much more human too, since, by seeing this video, we see that Papyrus gets tired when trying, he suffers and feels pain because he tries so hard to be noticed, to be recognized. I actually interpreted the original song about someone who had internal struggle but eventually came to terms with it and overcame it. Though, I could see the other interpretation is as well. And to be honest I didn't know the characters when I found the song, nor do I now, and that's mostly why I interpret it that way. Because I went into the song knowing nothing, I was able to decide for myself. Regardless, the animation and representation in this is superb! I love the expressions and poses as well as your style itself! Its beautiful! I love that you chose Papyrus and created this lovely piece of work to go with a song that has inspired many people! (Great work! even tho I'm late ha ha)

I do feel like Papyrus has a side to him that can't be seen by the naked eye, and this video explains it. He feels like he failed everyone and himself and that he's just one big failure. The only time he'll ever take those gloves off is for "rolling", otherwise known as self harm. Papyrus try's his hardest to be always happy and confident around other monsters and humans. He's very intelligent and doesn't know how to handle it. He just needed Frisk to save him from himself.

One of the only decent undertale animations I've seen. The idea is clever and I like the idea of the jukebox! This is really good, I hope to see more. I have seen many animators complain that their 3 minute simple multiple image 'animation' will take several months, I then realise that this animation only took you 3 months! I am amazed how quickly you made this. You are incredibly talented.

I like that you credited all the originals and what you used to make it. I also really like that animation and how you made the song fit him by thinking of the sadder, canon parts of his life and shining a little light on it. Rather than using it to fit some dumb AU or using the song in a nonsensical amv just telling the entire story of Undertale again. It actually makes sense when using this song, and I'm glad you put thought into choosing the song instead of using it for a story that the song doesn't even remotely relate to.

After an insanely complicated way of reading the lyrics and watching the video at the same time, I have to say that this is so perfect. Even before I knew the translation, the video was awe-inspiring. Adding the translation to the visuals just breaks my heart for poor Pappy, and confirms the fact that this really is a wonderful video.

Reading the description has really opened my eyes to Papy and I love it! It makes me love him more as a character and I can now really relate to him!
It's weird because I have never seen a video that puts papyrus in this sort of perspective usually he's this light hearted bubbly character but to see him like this kind of makes me think "what is he going through?" The game mainly foucuses on sans but I've never really thought of papyrus in such a way
Undertale never actually focused on Sans particularly. In fact, if you think about it, the main focus of the game is the Dreemurr family. Sans is just part of the main cast. It's more that the Undertale community focuses on Sans' character more often than any other.
