Sunny Chapman Well, Sans is a very deep and emotional character. He has more depth than Frisk, the main character, and is the most affected character by the genocide route, he’s the judge. Thus making him play a very big role in Undertale. It’s just very out of character and that’s probably why most tend to focus on him and Chara. But, yeah, I agree that Sans really isn’t the only character and the others are neglected most of the time.

He has more depth than Frisk, the main character, and is the most affected character by the genocide route, he’s the judge. Thus making him play a very big role in Undertale. I think this is the actual first ever serious animatic about Papyrus I've seen! It's sad how the whole fandom sees him as just "Sans's brother" and the perfect, sweet cinnamon roll, to innocent, too pure for this world. He's been through some shit, too, and he's not just a plot piece for Sans angst! The fandom as a whole seems to over-romanticize and angstify -(that's not a word but I'm making it one)- Sans's depression and completely overlook Papyrus's struggles. It's refreshing to see a portrayal of Paps that isn't just sunshine and rainbows and 'SANS PICK UP YOUR SOCK!' You did a really good job with this animatic!

The thing that makes Sans interesting for me is that he’s the kind of character that you wouldn’t expect to be important, but later in the storyline he has a pretty cool role! Papyrus is so underused and misunderstood as “Sans’ brother”, and it makes me so happy to see Papyrus focused content like this!
Warning: Long comment! This is amazing. It’s honestly kind of sad when people are surprised that Papyrus is presented as a deep, serious character. Everyone seems to view him as a perfect ray of sunlight, an innocent marshmallow only there to comfort Sans. Now I'm not saying that there should be more depressed Papyrus in the world, but I AM saying there should be more animatics like this for him. Cause dang I love thinking about the moments when Papyrus drops his facade and you can really see how deeply and seriously he actually is taking everything, and I wish more people explored that side of him like this video does!
i always say that papyrus is underrated, and i still believe that. people treat him like the idiot, the dummy, the stupid overly-naive kid, but he just wants to see the good in people because he's just pissed at how bad things keep getting.
I find this Animation Beautiful, because it shows every character in undertale even the sweetest have a backstory and its not all happy , especially going through the war and how its affected them. For example people ignore Asgore and pay attention to the others and when you think about it its been so hard for asgore, He lost his children and wife in the same night and the kingdom went into despair so he made a promise he would free them and he ended up having to kill innocent children and you can think how much that would of hurt him saying that he had a human child of his own.
Aaaah. As a person who is obsessed with papyrus i found this amazing. No one really ever stops to think about how papyrus feels. The game goes out of its way to hint at San’s sadness. But it also hints at Papyrus’s as well. He has no friends, a big dream that most doubt will come true, no one really knows him. He’s masked everything with a smile and a forces himself to keep going. The way he yells at sans for sleeping at night instead of working. It makes you realize that Papyrus may be over working himself. At the hope that he may one day achieve something. Become important. But this vid, that surprised me that it was Papy instead, that's giving the feelings of what Papy could feel on the game is just heart breaking....A really great turn, I say.... Maybe because his a game character and that's exactly what his personality is. But if u think about it, it's actually pretty deep. We see him trying to be positive even in the meanest times, through saying insults, to killing him. Maybe it was a way to stop the hurt by denying it and change it to a more positive one? Maybe it was a way to gain attention to stop the loneliness his feeling? Maybe it was the envy he sees on his brother, sans, that is a bit more popular than him? Since everyone knows sans and he..... Was just someone that is a skeleton who is really loud, joyous or... Sans' brother.... Maybe that's the reason why Papy was so happy that we became his friend, to just taste his awful spaghetti and say we liked it and be there for him when he wanted us to be. Maybe becoming a Royal guard wasn't the only reason why he's so happy.... Maybe it's because he finally found a friend.... Or maybe it was the reason why he didn't fight us at all.... Of course I like all the Sans-focused animatics that are around, but having one focused on Papyrus, specifically on a side of Papyrus a lot of people don't even think could exist, is really refreshing. This is a fantastic animatic.
Man, watching this video now takes me back a few years. The main reason why this game is one of my childhood favorites was because I found myself relating to these stories, about living the same life everyday and never changing anything or never being anybody. But now as I've grown older I've really become more appreciative and mature about myself. I've picked up more hobbies, improved my relationships, and achieved things. It's nice looking back at how far I have come. I also love how people are recognizing other characters in the story, especially Papyrus. He isn't just Sans' brother, he's his own guy. Even though Sans is one of my favorites because of his depth of character and the whole juxtaposition of being easy-going, lazy, and funny while also being tired of everything and depressed, seeing animatics about the other main characters is great!
Literally this is the only animatic that has brought me to tears every time, yet I can’t bring myself to stop watching it. This interpretation of Papyrus’s perspective is so underrated and this did it so much justice. I love this and show it to everyone I can. Absolutely lovely.

I think this is accurate Papyrus is not dumb. We know that by talking to him. Neither is he that naive. He was the one who bought Alphys and Undyne together (with a little push from the player ofc). He is a cinnamon roll as the fandom makes him, but he ain't dumb. Never assume that even he has that naive thoughts.

Our cinnamon roll... he was always pressured to be tough... always needing to worry about his older brother, who should be the one responsible for their wellbeing... Papyrus might also be jealous of Sans because of how popular he is, while Papyrus tries and fails everyday to make so much as one friend... he's obsessed about becoming popular because he feels so lonely... He doesn't have anyone to talk to about being afraid of fading away... with no one to remember or miss him. He's so tired of being referred to nothing but "Sans's brother", when he's the one doing all the real work. Think about it. Everyday, he wakes up, makes sure his brother has something to eat, he goes out and checks traps so that people might see him as productive, and so, maybe, this will be the day he captures a human, maybe this will be the day that someone notices him... he'll finally have friends... Throughout the day, he tries to make friends, he works his butt off to make sure that his and his brother's life is stable. At night, after another day of disappointment and exhaustion, he can't even relax and feel good because he's alone while his brother's enjoying another night in a bar with people who love him. He always worries about Sans getting drunk and not being able to get home safely, possibly because Sans has some sort of drinking problem(in 2:16, Sans just turns away and drinks the pain away after seeing his brother DIE). On top of all that, he's trapped. If the barrier broke, there would be so many new chances for friendship. For someone to care. But when he gets the chance, he spares us. When we befriend him, he's ecstatic because someone finally heard him. Finally noticed him. But what about his "arrogance"? What about Papyrus's self-absorbed remarks and speeches? His positivity?Obviously, it's nothing but a mask. For three possible reasons: One, he wants people to think he's optimistic and possibly find that likable enough to become friends with him. Two, it could be him comforting himself... telling himself it'll be okay... he'll be free soon... Finally, Sans. Sans, the only one who loves Papyrus... is depressed. Papyrus knows that confessing how stressed out Sans makes him, it wouldn't turn out well. So, he pulls up a mask of optimism. He's stuck in a "I'll be happy for the both of us" scenario. He leads himself to believe that he's not allowed to be sad, therefor never dropping the fake smile, even in a scenario where he's allowed to be scared, to be sad.... Then we end his life. Only one friend and a brother to grieve him. Even though he knows he's loved, he was still sad. What if he remembered our resets? What if he remembered our friendship? Our kindness? Just to be betrayed. to be murdered by someone he trusted, that he believed in. What if when he said he believed in us in the pacifist run... what if it was the first time he felt it? Meant it? Imagine how he felt. He would have felt that he was truly unloved. That anyone he befriends, anyone he loves, would just abandon him and shatter his soul all over again?

I never thought about Papyrus like this before. I mean, not on this scale. It's hinted EXTREMELY subtly in the game that he knows about the resets, so it's possible he knows as much as Sans. He simply takes a different approach. But I never imagined him having all this inner conflict within him. A friendly reminder to me that he's not exactly innocent, I guess. Wonderful job! You've earned this subscription!

i just got back from a visit to the good ole psyche ward. smile, try to make someone laugh, go home, cry, sleep repeat was a thing calandars with reminders, kicking myself for not doing things i need to do. repeatedly, every day. but i'm getting better, because someone was there to help me. be there to help those you love, because a smile doesn't always mean someone is okay. people you never realize are good at lying will fake smiles so hard they may even trick themselves sometimes. be there.
The wing dings on the paper at 1:34 says "IS NICE TO SEE YOU AGAIN" I think it's a nice touch since paps usually talks in uppercase, and gaster is seen as doing the same in his font! Also, seeing paps so upset makes sense, his friends always see him as a naive child-like person who shouldn't be told certain things, leading to him thinking his friends think little of him and that he can't be himself without being judged. Poor guy, i wanna give him a hug 😢 Edit: I also think the showing of him remembering timeline and resets is neat ^^

I love this because I imagine Papyrus actually isn’t as carefree as he lets on. I mean, he only wants to be part of the guard because he thinks it’ll make people like him... think about that, that means that Papyrus believes that no one likes him. It’s canon that Papyrus is insecure and lonely.
Fun fact: only killing papyrus in a neutral route causes a riot, they overthrow Toriel after she says that all humans should be treated as friends and she moves back into the ruins (with sans moving in as her roommate), Undyne is naturally chosen to be the next queen and she only hates humans even more after he dies, and if you befriend her, she regrets ever being friends with you. And after killing him, the Snowdin residents talk about how the town feels heavier/gloomier. There’s also the fact that Undyne comments on how Papyrus was late to his meeting, which he never is before asking you what you did to him.
I actually really love this. I like to think Papyrus' naive character is all just an act. Because I see many similarities between how we act around people we care about. And I know mine is an act. So, I can really relate to this, and it does seem like something for Papyrus too x3

And I'm so happy that you used Papyrus in this, usually with such a depressing song on this topic most would've obviously used Sans. And I love Sans as a character, but many forget about Papyrus. @@A-Cat-With-Wifi Not gonna lie, Sans is pretty interesting too-atleast for me. But people definitely blow Sans WAY out of porportion, and end up absolutely ignoring Papyrus. The thing that makes Sans interesting for me is that he’s the kind of character that you wouldn’t expect to be important, but later in the storyline he has a pretty cool role! Papyrus is so underused and misunderstood as “Sans’ brother”, and it makes me so happy to see Papyrus focused content like this!

This is amazing. It’s honestly kind of sad when people are surprised that Papyrus is presented as a deep, serious character. Everyone seems to view him as a perfect ray of sunlight, an innocent marshmallow only there to comfort Sans. And in the game, I do think it’s interesting that he calls the human “lonely” and etc. I don’t think he’d say that unless it was on his own mind, y’know? That idea came from somewhere. Sans actually mentions that Papyrus has been “kind of down lately” as well. Interesting how most people seem to forget that. Anyway, if you read all this, thank you so much for taking the time!

Aw, this is sweet. You never see much Papyrus-centric animatics so this was a nice refresher.
I find this Animation Beautiful, because it shows every character in undertale even the sweetest have a backstory and its not all happy , especially going through the war and how its affected them. For example people ignore Asgore and pay attention to the others and when you think about it its been so hard for asgore, He lost his children and wife in the same night and the kingdom went into despair so he made a promise he would free them and he ended up having to kill innocent children and you can think how much that would of hurt him saying that he had a human child of his own.
Aaaah. As a person who is obsessed with papyrus i found this amazing. No one really ever stops to think about how papyrus feels. The game goes out of its way to hint at San’s sadness. But it also hints at Papyrus’s as well. He has no friends, a big dream that most doubt will come true, no one really knows him. He’s masked everything with a smile and a forces himself to keep going. The way he yells at sans for sleeping at night instead of working. It makes you realize that Papyrus may be over working himself. At the hope that he may one day achieve something. Become important. Be a hero. Have friends.

At first I thought it would be sans in the vid because of the thumbnail and almost like everyone relates to sans because of his love to his brother, the feeling of loss, to the puns and memes, his character being lazy and giving up to almost everything. But this vid, that surprised me that it was Papy instead, that's giving the feelings of what Papy could feel on the game is just heart breaking....A really great turn, I say....

Everyone sees Papy as a cinnamon roll or an annoying person who keeps on saying positive things.... But no one really acts that way, is it? Maybe because his a game character and that's exactly what his personality is. But if u think about it, it's actually pretty deep.
We see him trying to be positive even in the meanest times, through saying insults, to killing him. Maybe it was a way to stop the hurt by denying it and change it to a more positive one? Maybe it was a way to gain attention to stop the loneliness his feeling? Maybe it was the envy he sees on his brother, sans, that is a bit more popular than him? Since everyone knows sans and he..... Was just someone that is a skeleton who is really loud, joyous or... Sans' brother....
Maybe that's the reason why Papy was so happy that we became his friend, to just taste his awful spaghetti and say we liked it and be there for him when he wanted us to be. Maybe becoming a Royal guard wasn't the only reason why he's so happy.... Maybe it's because he finally found a friend.... Or maybe it was the reason why he didn't fight us at all.... At the genocide route.... Because maybe it was the day he was waiting for....but before everything would end.... He still tries to stop the human, for everyone else in the underground....Only to fail, just like everyday on how he tried to make more friends.... Or not, which makes him really happy....

Of course I like all the Sans-focused animatics that are around, but having one focused on Papyrus, specifically on a side of Papyrus a lot of people don't even think could exist, is really refreshing. This is a fantastic animatic.

Man, watching this video now takes me back a few years. The main reason why this game is one of my childhood favorites was because I found myself relating to these stories, about living the same life everyday and never changing anything or never being anybody. But now as I've grown older I've really become more appreciative and mature about myself. I've picked up more hobbies, improved my relationships, and achieved things. It's nice looking back at how far I have come.
I also love how people are recognizing other characters in the story, especially Papyrus. He isn't just Sans' brother, he's his own guy. Even though Sans is one of my favorites because of his depth of character and the whole juxtaposition of being easy-going, lazy, and funny while also being tired of everything and depressed, seeing animatics about the other main characters is great!

I expected to be about Sans because of the thumbnail and because of his personality. when I saw Papyrus I was surprised. anybody can hide their depresssion but for long? I have depression and think the same stuff sometimes but I know that people will miss me if I killed myself. now everytime I see Papyrus, I'm just gonna be sad now. great work anyways.

Papyrus is not dumb. We know that by talking to him. Neither is he that naive. He was the one who bought Alphys and Undyne together (with a little push from the player ofc). He is a cinnamon roll as the fandom makes him, but he ain't dumb. Never assume that even he has that naive thoughts.

Our cinnamon roll... he was always pressured to be tough... always needing to worry about his older brother, who should be the one responsible for their wellbeing... Papyrus might also be jealous of Sans because of how popular he is, while Papyrus tries and fails everyday to make so much as one friend... he's obsessed about becoming popular because he feels so lonely... He doesn't have anyone to talk to about being afraid of fading away... with no one to remember or miss him. He's so tired of being referred to nothing but "Sans's brother", when he's the one doing all the real work. Think about it. Everyday, he wakes up, makes sure his brother has something to eat, he goes out and checks traps so that people might see him as productive, and so, maybe, this will be the day he captures a human, maybe this will be the day that someone notices him... he'll finally have friends... Throughout the day, he tries to make friends, he works his butt off to make sure that his and his brother's life is stable. At night, after another day of disappointment and exhaustion, he can't even relax and feel good because he's alone while his brother's enjoying another night in a bar with people who love him. He always worries about Sans getting drunk and not being able to get home safely, possibly because Sans has some sort of drinking problem(in 2:16, Sans just turns away and drinks the pain away after seeing his brother DIE). On top of all that, he's trapped. If the barrier broke, there would be so many new chances for friendship. For someone to care. But when he gets the chance, he spares us. When we befriend him, he's ecstatic because someone finally heard him. Finally noticed him.
But what about his "arrogance"? What about Papyrus's self-absorbed remarks and speeches? His positivity?Obviously, it's nothing but a mask. For three possible reasons: One, he wants people to think he's optimistic and possibly find that likable enough to become friends with him. Two, it could be him comforting himself... telling himself it'll be okay... he'll be free soon... Finally, Sans. Sans, the only one who loves Papyrus... is depressed. Papyrus knows that confessing how stressed out Sans makes him, it wouldn't turn out well. So, he pulls up a mask of optimism. He's stuck in a "I'll be happy for the both of us" scenario. He leads himself to believe that he's not allowed to be sad, therefor never dropping the fake smile, even in a scenario where he's allowed to be scared, to be sad....
Then we end his life. Only one friend and a brother to grieve him. Even though he knows he's loved, he was still sad. What if he remembered our resets? What if he remembered our friendship? Our kindness? Just to be betrayed. to be murdered by someone he trusted, that he believed in. What if when he said he believed in us in the pacifist run... what if it was the first time he felt it? Meant it? Imagine how he felt. He would have felt that he was truly unloved. That anyone he befriends, anyone he loves, would just abandon him and shatter his soul all over again?

I never thought about Papyrus like this before. I mean, not on this scale. It's hinted EXTREMELY subtly in the game that he knows about the resets, so it's possible he knows as much as Sans. He simply takes a different approach. But I never imagined him having all this inner conflict within him. A friendly reminder to me that he's not exactly innocent, I guess.

Also, seeing paps so upset makes sense, his friends always see him as a naive child-like person who shouldn't be told certain things, leading to him thinking his friends think little of him and that he can't be himself without being judged. Poor guy, i wanna give him a hug 😢

I love this because I imagine Papyrus actually isn’t as carefree as he lets on. I mean, he only wants to be part of the guard because he thinks it’ll make people like him... think about that, that means that Papyrus believes that no one likes him.

Fun fact: only killing papyrus in a neutral route causes a riot, they overthrow Toriel after she says that all humans should be treated as friends and she moves back into the ruins (with sans moving in as her roommate), Undyne is naturally chosen to be the next queen and she only hates humans even more after he dies, and if you befriend her, she regrets ever being friends with you.
And after killing him, the Snowdin residents talk about how the town feels heavier/gloomier.
There’s also the fact that Undyne comments on how Papyrus was late to his meeting, which he never is before asking you what you did to him.
I actually really love this. I like to think Papyrus' naive character is all just an act. Because I see many similarities between how we act around people we care about. And I know mine is an act. So, I can really relate to this, and it does seem like something for Papyrus too x3
