ikr! i take it as Papyrus wanting to be like Sans because Sans has a lot of fangirls and friends and that makes Papyrus depressed. so, in the game, he acts "cool" to try and keep himself up, or occupied, so the thoughts and memories don't come back. Because if he's bored and alone, it gives him time to think about those things that depressed people think about and that would lead to self hate. Warning: Long comment! This is amazing. It’s honestly kind of sad when people are surprised that Papyrus is presented as a deep, serious character. Everyone seems to view him as a perfect ray of sunlight, an innocent marshmallow only there to comfort Sans. And in the game, I do think it’s interesting that he calls the human “lonely” and etc. I don’t think he’d say that unless it was on his own mind, y’know? That idea came from somewhere. Sans actually mentions that Papyrus has been “kind of down lately” as well. Interesting how most people seem to forget that. Anyway, if you read all this, thank you so much for taking the time!
I think this is the actual first ever serious animatic about Papyrus I've seen! It's sad how the whole fandom sees him as just "Sans's brother" and the perfect, sweet cinnamon roll, to innocent, too pure for this world. He's been through some shit, too, and he's not just a plot piece for Sans angst! The fandom as a whole seems to over-romanticize and angstify -(that's not a word but I'm making it one)- Sans's depression and completely overlook Papyrus's struggles. It's refreshing to see a portrayal of Paps that isn't just sunshine and rainbows and 'SANS PICK UP YOUR SOCK!' You did a really good job with this animatic!

The thing that makes Sans interesting for me is that he’s the kind of character that you wouldn’t expect to be important, but later in the storyline he has a pretty cool role! Papyrus is so underused and misunderstood as “Sans’ brother”, and it makes me so happy to see Papyrus focused content like this!

Thus making him play a very big role in Undertale. It’s just very out of character and that’s probably why most tend to focus on him and Chara. I find this Animation Beautiful, because it shows every character in undertale even the sweetest have a backstory and its not all happy , especially going through the war and how its affected them. For example people ignore Asgore and pay attention to the others and when you think about it its been so hard for asgore, He lost his children and wife in the same night and the kingdom went into despair so he made a promise he would free them and he ended up having to kill innocent children and you can think how much that would of hurt him saying that he had a human child of his own.
i always say that papyrus is underrated, and i still believe that. people treat him like the idiot, the dummy, the stupid overly-naive kid, but he just wants to see the good in people because he's just pissed at how bad things keep getting.

Aaaah. As a person who is obsessed with papyrus i found this amazing. No one really ever stops to think about how papyrus feels. The game goes out of its way to hint at San’s sadness. But it also hints at Papyrus’s as well. He has no friends, a big dream that most doubt will come true, no one really knows him. He’s masked everything with a smile and a forces himself to keep going. The way he yells at sans for sleeping at night instead of working. It makes you realize that Papyrus may be over working himself. At the hope that he may one day achieve something. Become important. All I can say is that..... This is pure gold.... Pure beauty.... To the story... To the relativity.... To the awesome drawings.... This has brought me to tears...(╥ω╥`) At first I thought it would be sans in the vid because of the thumbnail and almost like everyone relates to sans because of his love to his brother, the feeling of loss, to the puns and memes, his character being lazy and giving up to almost everything. But this vid, that surprised me that it was Papy instead, that's giving the feelings of what Papy could feel on the game is just heart breaking....A really great turn, I say.... (Long description warning ahead!) Everyone sees Papy as a cinnamon roll or an annoying person who keeps on saying positive things.... But no one really acts that way, is it? Maybe because his a game character and that's exactly what his personality is. But if u think about it, it's actually pretty deep. We see him trying to be positive even in the meanest times, through saying insults, to killing him. Maybe it was a way to stop the hurt by denying it and change it to a more positive one? Maybe it was a way to gain attention to stop the loneliness his feeling? Maybe it was the envy he sees on his brother, sans, that is a bit more popular than him? Since everyone knows sans and he..... Was just someone that is a skeleton who is really loud, joyous or... Sans' brother.... Maybe that's the reason why Papy was so happy that we became his friend, to just taste his awful spaghetti and say we liked it and be there for him when he wanted us to be. Maybe becoming a Royal guard wasn't the only reason why he's so happy.... Maybe it's because he finally found a friend.... Or maybe it was the reason why he didn't fight us at all.... At the genocide route.... Because maybe it was the day he was waiting for....but before everything would end.... He still tries to stop the human, for everyone else in the underground....Only to fail, just like everyday on how he tried to make more friends.... Or not, which makes him really happy.... Man, watching this video now takes me back a few years. The main reason why this game is one of my childhood favorites was because I found myself relating to these stories, about living the same life everyday and never changing anything or never being anybody. But now as I've grown older I've really become more appreciative and mature about myself. I've picked up more hobbies, improved my relationships, and achieved things. It's nice looking back at how far I have come. I also love how people are recognizing other characters in the story, especially Papyrus. He isn't just Sans' brother, he's his own guy. Even though Sans is one of my favorites because of his depth of character and the whole juxtaposition of being easy-going, lazy, and funny while also being tired of everything and depressed, seeing animatics about the other main characters is great!
Of course I like all the Sans-focused animatics that are around, but having one focused on Papyrus, specifically on a side of Papyrus a lot of people don't even think could exist, is really refreshing. This is a fantastic animatic.
I think this is accurate Papyrus is not dumb. We know that by talking to him. Neither is he that naive. He was the one who bought Alphys and Undyne together (with a little push from the player ofc). He is a cinnamon roll as the fandom makes him, but he ain't dumb. Never assume that even he has that naive thoughts.
This deserves more attention! I love when people make stuff with lots of Papyrus, or better yet, entirely focused on him. Especially when it’s not happy go lucky happy Pappy.

Our cinnamon roll... he was always pressured to be tough... always needing to worry about his older brother, who should be the one responsible for their wellbeing... Papyrus might also be jealous of Sans because of how popular he is, while Papyrus tries and fails everyday to make so much as one friend... he's obsessed about becoming popular because he feels so lonely... He doesn't have anyone to talk to about being afraid of fading away... with no one to remember or miss him. He's so tired of being referred to nothing but "Sans's brother", when he's the one doing all the real work. Think about it. Everyday, he wakes up, makes sure his brother has something to eat, he goes out and checks traps so that people might see him as productive, and so, maybe, this will be the day he captures a human, maybe this will be the day that someone notices him... he'll finally have friends... Throughout the day, he tries to make friends, he works his butt off to make sure that his and his brother's life is stable. At night, after another day of disappointment and exhaustion, he can't even relax and feel good because he's alone while his brother's enjoying another night in a bar with people who love him. He always worries about Sans getting drunk and not being able to get home safely, possibly because Sans has some sort of drinking problem(in 2:16, Sans just turns away and drinks the pain away after seeing his brother DIE). On top of all that, he's trapped. If the barrier broke, there would be so many new chances for friendship. For someone to care. But when he gets the chance, he spares us. When we befriend him, he's ecstatic because someone finally heard him. Finally noticed him. But what about his "arrogance"? What about Papyrus's self-absorbed remarks and speeches? His positivity?Obviously, it's nothing but a mask. For three possible reasons: One, he wants people to think he's optimistic and possibly find that likable enough to become friends with him. Two, it could be him comforting himself... telling himself it'll be okay... he'll be free soon... Finally, Sans. Sans, the only one who loves Papyrus... is depressed. Papyrus knows that confessing how stressed out Sans makes him, it wouldn't turn out well. So, he pulls up a mask of optimism. He's stuck in a "I'll be happy for the both of us" scenario. He leads himself to believe that he's not allowed to be sad, therefor never dropping the fake smile, even in a scenario where he's allowed to be scared, to be sad.... Then we end his life. Only one friend and a brother to grieve him. Even though he knows he's loved, he was still sad. What if he remembered our resets? What if he remembered our friendship? Our kindness? Just to be betrayed. to be murdered by someone he trusted, that he believed in. What if when he said he believed in us in the pacifist run... what if it was the first time he felt it? Meant it? Imagine how he felt. He would have felt that he was truly unloved. That anyone he befriends, anyone he loves, would just abandon him and shatter his soul all over again?
i just got back from a visit to the good ole psyche ward. smile, try to make someone laugh, go home, cry, sleep repeat was a thing calandars with reminders, kicking myself for not doing things i need to do. repeatedly, every day. but i'm getting better, because someone was there to help me. be there to help those you love, because a smile doesn't always mean someone is okay. people you never realize are good at lying will fake smiles so hard they may even trick themselves sometimes. be there.

I love this because I imagine Papyrus actually isn’t as carefree as he lets on. I mean, he only wants to be part of the guard because he thinks it’ll make people like him... think about that, that means that Papyrus believes that no one likes him. It’s canon that Papyrus is insecure and lonely.
I never thought about Papyrus like this before. I mean, not on this scale. It's hinted EXTREMELY subtly in the game that he knows about the resets, so it's possible he knows as much as Sans. He simply takes a different approach. But I never imagined him having all this inner conflict within him. A friendly reminder to me that he's not exactly innocent, I guess. Wonderful job! And I'm so happy that you used Papyrus in this, usually with such a depressing song on this topic most would've obviously used Sans. And I love Sans as a character, but many forget about Papyrus. And not only that, but it makes sense that Papyrus is the one in here. Any way you did absolutely amazing! Keep up the good work!

So I wrote a fic based on this Papyrus had finally gone over his limit. He had remembered every single reset, though he still didn’t quite trust that they weren’t just broken dreams he randomly recalled. The poor skeleton had countless nightmares of being slaughtered by his human friend, much like Sans’. However, Papyrus had learned to never scream at night. Sans was already stressed enough, and Papy knew that Sans was going through something awful. Although both brothers seemed to have full memory of resets, they both approached them differently. Sans kept everything suppressed, yet he expressed his pain slightly. Papyrus, on the other hand, hid it more than Sans. And unfortunately, Sans was too caught up in his own problems to see it. Worse yet, neither knew the full story of what the other was going through. Sans and Frisk had no clue of what was happening to Papyrus, and Papyrus was unaware of Sans and Frisk’s ordeal. Out of the thousands of resets, Sans had never once mentioned anything to Papyrus. Not once. So in that way, Papy thought Sans would brush it off as deja vu or make a bad pun. In the same way, Sans couldn’t bear it to see Papy hurt, even if he was blissfully unaware that secrets hurt Paps more. Resets had actually harmed Papyrus more than Sans, as well. Papyrus had been hopeful that Frisk- or Chara, if it was them- would change their ways with each passing reset. Because of that, Papyrus had been let down by every genocide route since the first. Sans had always expected to see them in the judgement hall because he was the type to avenge his fallen. But Papyrus was the fallen, and he had a different insight on everything due to that. He had a wish, and that wish was crushed more than a thousand times over. Sans never even considered that the human would change, so it isn’t like he was ever let down like Papyrus was. If Sans was wronged, he would’ve wronged the offender right back. Yet if Papyrus was wronged, he would’ve apologized to them! They just weren’t the same. Of course, Pap had a small shred of offense deep within him, but he ignored it. Papyrus was mostly mad at himself, which is why he was there. He was standing in the cold, white Snowdin clearing; the same clearing where he gets killed each time. This was why he had summoned a bone, though nobody was out there. Even if somebody was there, this bone was not for them. “It all starts over.. It all starts over..” He assured himself, with quivering words. He’d already written the note that was now tucked into his tattered and red scarf. After what felt like forever, Papyrus slowly raised the bone to his right, next to his neck. Papy sharply inhaled, winced, and struck. A loud, thunderous crack filled the snowing clearing. “Gah!” he shrieked as his legs buckled and he fell to the icy ground. His plan didn’t work; his skull was still attached to his body. Pain shot through the whole of Papyrus as he struggled to check his stats. The health bar read 278 out of 680, which meant he was more than half dead. Papy groaned, weakly raising an arm. A gaster blaster with bright, tangerine-orange eyes appeared above him. With a simple movement of his fingers, the blaster pointed towards him. Papyrus then blasted himself, instantly disintegrating him, but leaving the entirely ground unscathed. Within a quick, painless moment, the Great Papyrus was nothing but a pile of dust inside of a heavily burnt scarf. Odd, the clothes didn’t make it, but the scarf did. Either way, Papyrus was dead now. Not that that was any different than what had happened to him so many times before. Sans made his way down to his post, holding Frisk's hand. He'd thought this was REALLY going to be the last time. It had to be if Frisk didn't want to go through an endless cycle of torture, and Frisk knew that. They made the promise, so this would mark the first pacifist route in lifetimes. Frisk was still just a kid; Sans wasn't in the wrong for treating them as so on occasion. "Well kid," he said. "I haven't seen Paps since this morning. You think he's finally in the royal guard this time?" Frisk shrugged. Sans looked at the ground and sighed. They continued walking to Sans' post, since they didn't have anything better to do. His eyelights suddenly disappeared as he came to the site that the Papyrus fight was held. Sans was always chilled to the bone at that awful place, but it was worse now. His eyes landed on Papy's bright red tattered scarf, and he immediately started fuming. "Frisk! How the f_ck could you do this! You lied to me-" his voice broke. "Papyrus-! Paps oh no oh nO!" Sans desperately ran to the scarf, scooping up his brother's dust. He faced away from Frisk, bunching up the scarf in his arms as they gasped. "I- This wasn't me! I didn't…. No… P-papyrus.." Sans' eye turned gold and blue as he whipped back around to pin Frisk on the floor. He held them down by their neck, quickly jumping to the conclusion that this was Frisk's doing. His cold, bone fingers clenched tighter around the child's throat. Frisk struggled, but managed an extremely hoarse, "w..AIt-!" Sans got closer to their face. "I. Don't. Want. To. Hear. It." Somehow, they managed to kick Sans off of them, and attempted to run away. As Frisk was getting up, Sans threw himself at them, making both of them fall down. Frisk's leg bent wrong, and they yelped as they dropped to the floor with Sans on top of them. Sans immediately flipped Frisk onto their back. He harshly slammed his left hand onto their chest, and summoned a sharp-tipped bone with his right. Frisk once again yelped, blood sputtering out of their mouth from his left hand's blow. Sans dug the long, pointed bone into Frisk's chest. Frisk screamed a blood curdling scream, and tears instantly fell out of their pained eyes. Blood was now pouring out of their mouth, but they weren't hit in a vital area. Sans violently ripped the bone out of Frisk's ribs as tissues audibly tore. Blood gushed out of the wound, and Frisk lied on their back, panting in a broken way. The human drew another breath just as Sans plunged the bone back into them, going rather quickly. Absolutely drenching both of them in blood, Sans once more crushed the bone into Frisk's torso at an angle, scraping at the sides of the now large hole. He began to cry psychotically, stabbing viciously into Frisk's corpse. He wailed for Papyrus, but alas, nobody came. Sans stared at the child's vacant, bloodied face, becoming eerily unsettled by their motionless. There was an odd film over Frisk's eyes, one that hadn't appeared the other times they had died. Sans had cared about them, still, so it was awful to see his pal like this. However, this wasn't his pal. He hated them, despite his half-hearted attempt to tolerate them once more. Actually, he didn't know how he felt or what to feel. Sans had very mixed emotions. Then, he remembered his brother. "No…" he thought. "We aren't friends. They killed-.... they killed him.. again.." Sans got off of Frisk, looking back to Pap's scarf. He sighed, putting it on again for the.. he didn't know how many times he'd worn that scarf. He just knew he hadn't worn it when Papy was alive. Sans adjusted it, fiddling with the tattered end of it. A small, worn bit of paper fluttered out of one of the folds. He cocked an eyebrow bone. That was new. Sans picked it up, but it was blank? Sans then flipped it around, finding Papyrus' handwriting covering it. The note read; "Dear brother, I am sorry. I can't take it anymore, being killed by the human over and over again. You probably don't know what I'm talking about, but- I'll be back, and you won't remember any of this happened. Hopefully. I'm running out of space, I'll see you soon. I'm sorry. This was my only choice. I'm sorry.. -Your brother, the Great Papyrus" Hope you like it

i take it as Papyrus wanting to be like Sans because Sans has a lot of fangirls and friends and that makes Papyrus depressed. so, in the game, he acts "cool" to try and keep himself up, or occupied, so the thoughts and memories don't come back. Because if he's bored and alone, it gives him time to think about those things that depressed people think about and that would lead to self hate.

This is amazing. It’s honestly kind of sad when people are surprised that Papyrus is presented as a deep, serious character. Everyone seems to view him as a perfect ray of sunlight, an innocent marshmallow only there to comfort Sans. And in the game, I do think it’s interesting that he calls the human “lonely” and etc. I don’t think he’d say that unless it was on his own mind, y’know? That idea came from somewhere. Sans actually mentions that Papyrus has been “kind of down lately” as well. Interesting how most people seem to forget that. Anyway, if you read all this, thank you so much for taking the time!
I think this is the actual first ever serious animatic about Papyrus I've seen! It's sad how the whole fandom sees him as just "Sans's brother" and the perfect, sweet cinnamon roll, to innocent, too pure for this world. He's been through some shit, too, and he's not just a plot piece for Sans angst! The fandom as a whole seems to over-romanticize and angstify -(that's not a word but I'm making it one)- Sans's depression and completely overlook Papyrus's struggles. It's refreshing to see a portrayal of Paps that isn't just sunshine and rainbows and 'SANS PICK UP YOUR SOCK!' You did a really good job with this animatic!

@@Cat_In_A_Hoodie Not gonna lie, Sans is pretty interesting too-atleast for me. But people definitely blow Sans WAY out of porportion, and end up absolutely ignoring Papyrus. The thing that makes Sans interesting for me is that he’s the kind of character that you wouldn’t expect to be important, but later in the storyline he has a pretty cool role! Papyrus is so underused and misunderstood as “Sans’ brother”, and it makes me so happy to see Papyrus focused content like this!

I find this Animation Beautiful, because it shows every character in undertale even the sweetest have a backstory and its not all happy , especially going through the war and how its affected them. For example people ignore Asgore and pay attention to the others and when you think about it its been so hard for asgore, He lost his children and wife in the same night and the kingdom went into despair so he made a promise he would free them and he ended up having to kill innocent children and you can think how much that would of hurt him saying that he had a human child of his own.

Aaaah. As a person who is obsessed with papyrus i found this amazing. No one really ever stops to think about how papyrus feels. The game goes out of its way to hint at San’s sadness. But it also hints at Papyrus’s as well. He has no friends, a big dream that most doubt will come true, no one really knows him. He’s masked everything with a smile and a forces himself to keep going. The way he yells at sans for sleeping at night instead of working. It makes you realize that Papyrus may be over working himself. At the hope that he may one day achieve something. Become important. Be a hero. Have friends.

At first I thought it would be sans in the vid because of the thumbnail and almost like everyone relates to sans because of his love to his brother, the feeling of loss, to the puns and memes, his character being lazy and giving up to almost everything. But this vid, that surprised me that it was Papy instead, that's giving the feelings of what Papy could feel on the game is just heart breaking....A really great turn, I say....

Everyone sees Papy as a cinnamon roll or an annoying person who keeps on saying positive things.... But no one really acts that way, is it? Maybe because his a game character and that's exactly what his personality is. But if u think about it, it's actually pretty deep.
We see him trying to be positive even in the meanest times, through saying insults, to killing him. Maybe it was a way to stop the hurt by denying it and change it to a more positive one? Maybe it was a way to gain attention to stop the loneliness his feeling? Maybe it was the envy he sees on his brother, sans, that is a bit more popular than him? Since everyone knows sans and he..... Was just someone that is a skeleton who is really loud, joyous or... Sans' brother....
Maybe that's the reason why Papy was so happy that we became his friend, to just taste his awful spaghetti and say we liked it and be there for him when he wanted us to be. Maybe becoming a Royal guard wasn't the only reason why he's so happy.... Maybe it's because he finally found a friend.... Or maybe it was the reason why he didn't fight us at all.... At the genocide route.... Because maybe it was the day he was waiting for....but before everything would end.... He still tries to stop the human, for everyone else in the underground....Only to fail, just like everyday on how he tried to make more friends.... Or not, which makes him really happy....

Man, watching this video now takes me back a few years. The main reason why this game is one of my childhood favorites was because I found myself relating to these stories, about living the same life everyday and never changing anything or never being anybody. But now as I've grown older I've really become more appreciative and mature about myself. I've picked up more hobbies, improved my relationships, and achieved things. It's nice looking back at how far I have come.
I also love how people are recognizing other characters in the story, especially Papyrus. He isn't just Sans' brother, he's his own guy. Even though Sans is one of my favorites because of his depth of character and the whole juxtaposition of being easy-going, lazy, and funny while also being tired of everything and depressed, seeing animatics about the other main characters is great!

Papyrus is not dumb. We know that by talking to him. Neither is he that naive. He was the one who bought Alphys and Undyne together (with a little push from the player ofc). He is a cinnamon roll as the fandom makes him, but he ain't dumb. Never assume that even he has that naive thoughts.
A funny thing is that the first time I saw this video's thumbnail I was like "oh it's just another angsty thing about sans" and didn't click on it.

Our cinnamon roll... he was always pressured to be tough... always needing to worry about his older brother, who should be the one responsible for their wellbeing... Papyrus might also be jealous of Sans because of how popular he is, while Papyrus tries and fails everyday to make so much as one friend... he's obsessed about becoming popular because he feels so lonely... He doesn't have anyone to talk to about being afraid of fading away... with no one to remember or miss him. He's so tired of being referred to nothing but "Sans's brother", when he's the one doing all the real work. Think about it. Everyday, he wakes up, makes sure his brother has something to eat, he goes out and checks traps so that people might see him as productive, and so, maybe, this will be the day he captures a human, maybe this will be the day that someone notices him... he'll finally have friends... Throughout the day, he tries to make friends, he works his butt off to make sure that his and his brother's life is stable. At night, after another day of disappointment and exhaustion, he can't even relax and feel good because he's alone while his brother's enjoying another night in a bar with people who love him. He always worries about Sans getting drunk and not being able to get home safely, possibly because Sans has some sort of drinking problem(in 2:16, Sans just turns away and drinks the pain away after seeing his brother DIE). On top of all that, he's trapped. If the barrier broke, there would be so many new chances for friendship. For someone to care. But when he gets the chance, he spares us. When we befriend him, he's ecstatic because someone finally heard him. Finally noticed him.
But what about his "arrogance"? What about Papyrus's self-absorbed remarks and speeches? His positivity?Obviously, it's nothing but a mask. For three possible reasons: One, he wants people to think he's optimistic and possibly find that likable enough to become friends with him. Two, it could be him comforting himself... telling himself it'll be okay... he'll be free soon... Finally, Sans. Sans, the only one who loves Papyrus... is depressed. Papyrus knows that confessing how stressed out Sans makes him, it wouldn't turn out well. So, he pulls up a mask of optimism. He's stuck in a "I'll be happy for the both of us" scenario. He leads himself to believe that he's not allowed to be sad, therefor never dropping the fake smile, even in a scenario where he's allowed to be scared, to be sad....
Then we end his life. Only one friend and a brother to grieve him. Even though he knows he's loved, he was still sad. What if he remembered our resets? What if he remembered our friendship? Our kindness? Just to be betrayed. to be murdered by someone he trusted, that he believed in. What if when he said he believed in us in the pacifist run... what if it was the first time he felt it? Meant it? Imagine how he felt. He would have felt that he was truly unloved. That anyone he befriends, anyone he loves, would just abandon him and shatter his soul all over again?

I love this because I imagine Papyrus actually isn’t as carefree as he lets on. I mean, he only wants to be part of the guard because he thinks it’ll make people like him... think about that, that means that Papyrus believes that no one likes him.

I never thought about Papyrus like this before. I mean, not on this scale. It's hinted EXTREMELY subtly in the game that he knows about the resets, so it's possible he knows as much as Sans. He simply takes a different approach. But I never imagined him having all this inner conflict within him. A friendly reminder to me that he's not exactly innocent, I guess.

And I'm so happy that you used Papyrus in this, usually with such a depressing song on this topic most would've obviously used Sans. And I love Sans as a character, but many forget about Papyrus. And not only that, but it makes sense that Papyrus is the one in here. Any way you did absolutely amazing! Keep up the good work!

Im crying ;-; even when the song start and there is nothing on the screen only the title it feels like an arrow hit my chest/ heart and mede me cry instantly....since seeing papyrus like that is usually rare cuz in the game he is happy and cheery and sans just smile and laugh his depression away but when u rlly think about it....wat if papyrus actually remembers about the reset when he died but when we reset he just acts like nothing ever happen but he is in alot of pain.....wow....so bootiful ;-;

So I wrote a fic based on this
Papyrus had finally gone over his limit. He had remembered every single reset, though he still didn’t quite trust that they weren’t just broken dreams he randomly recalled. The poor skeleton had countless nightmares of being slaughtered by his human friend, much like Sans’. However, Papyrus had learned to never scream at night. Sans was already stressed enough, and Papy knew that Sans was going through something awful. Although both brothers seemed to have full memory of resets, they both approached them differently.
Sans kept everything suppressed, yet he expressed his pain slightly. Papyrus, on the other hand, hid it more than Sans. And unfortunately, Sans was too caught up in his own problems to see it. Worse yet, neither knew the full story of what the other was going through. Sans and Frisk had no clue of what was happening to Papyrus, and Papyrus was unaware of Sans and Frisk’s ordeal. Out of the thousands of resets, Sans had never once mentioned anything to Papyrus. Not once. So in that way, Papy thought Sans would brush it off as deja vu or make a bad pun. In the same way, Sans couldn’t bear it to see Papy hurt, even if he was blissfully unaware that secrets hurt Paps more.
Resets had actually harmed Papyrus more than Sans, as well. Papyrus had been hopeful that Frisk- or Chara, if it was them- would change their ways with each passing reset. Because of that, Papyrus had been let down by every genocide route since the first. Sans had always expected to see them in the judgement hall because he was the type to
avenge his fallen. But Papyrus was the fallen, and he had a different insight on everything due to that. He had a wish, and that wish was crushed more than a thousand times over. Sans never even considered that the human would change, so it isn’t like he was ever let down like Papyrus was.
If Sans was wronged, he would’ve wronged the offender right back. Yet if Papyrus was wronged, he would’ve apologized to them! They just weren’t the same. Of course, Pap had a small shred of offense deep within him, but he ignored it. Papyrus was mostly mad at himself, which is why he was there. He was standing in the cold, white Snowdin clearing; the same clearing where he gets killed each time. This was why he had summoned a bone, though nobody was out there. Even if somebody was there, this bone was not for them.
“It all starts over.. It all starts over..” He assured himself, with quivering words. He’d already written the note that was now tucked into his tattered and red scarf. After what felt like forever, Papyrus slowly raised the bone to his right, next to his neck. Papy sharply inhaled, winced, and struck. A loud, thunderous crack filled the snowing clearing. “Gah!” he shrieked as his legs buckled and he fell to the icy ground. His plan didn’t work; his skull was still attached to his body. Pain shot through the whole of Papyrus as he struggled to check his stats. The health bar read 278 out of 680, which meant he was more than half dead. Papy groaned, weakly raising an arm. A gaster blaster with bright, tangerine-orange eyes appeared above him. With a simple movement of his fingers, the blaster pointed towards him. Papyrus then blasted himself, instantly disintegrating him, but leaving the entirely ground unscathed. Within a quick, painless moment, the Great Papyrus was nothing but a pile of dust inside of a heavily burnt scarf. Odd, the clothes didn’t make it, but the scarf did. Either way, Papyrus was dead now. Not that that was any different than what had happened to him so many times before.
Sans made his way down to his post, holding Frisk's hand. He'd thought this was REALLY going to be the last time. It had to be if Frisk didn't want to go through an endless cycle of torture, and Frisk knew that. They made the promise, so this would mark the first pacifist route in lifetimes. Frisk was still just a kid; Sans wasn't in the wrong for treating them as so on occasion. "Well kid," he said. "I haven't seen Paps since this morning. You think he's finally in the royal guard this time?"
Frisk shrugged. Sans looked at the ground and sighed. They continued walking to Sans' post, since they didn't have anything better to do. His eyelights suddenly disappeared as he came to the site that the Papyrus fight was held. Sans was always chilled to the bone at that awful place, but it was worse now. His eyes landed on Papy's bright red tattered scarf, and he immediately started fuming. "Frisk! How the f_ck could you do this! You lied to me-" his voice broke. "Papyrus-! Paps oh no oh nO!" Sans desperately ran to the scarf, scooping up his brother's dust.
He faced away from Frisk, bunching up the scarf in his arms as they gasped. "I- This wasn't me! I didn't…. No… P-papyrus.." Sans' eye turned gold and blue as he whipped back around to pin Frisk on the floor. He held them down by their neck, quickly jumping to the conclusion that this was Frisk's doing. His cold, bone fingers clenched tighter around the child's throat. Frisk struggled, but managed an extremely hoarse, "w..AIt-!"
Sans got closer to their face. "I. Don't. Want. To. Hear. It." Somehow, they managed to kick Sans off of them, and attempted to run away. As Frisk was getting up, Sans threw himself at them, making both of them fall down. Frisk's leg bent wrong, and they yelped as they dropped to the floor with Sans on top of them. Sans immediately flipped Frisk onto their back. He harshly slammed his left hand onto their chest, and summoned a sharp-tipped bone with his right. Frisk once again yelped, blood sputtering out of their mouth from his left hand's blow. Sans dug the long, pointed bone into Frisk's chest. Frisk screamed a blood curdling scream, and tears instantly fell out of their pained eyes. Blood was now pouring out of their mouth, but they weren't hit in a vital area. Sans violently ripped the bone out of Frisk's ribs as tissues audibly tore. Blood gushed out of the wound, and Frisk lied on their back, panting in a broken way. The human drew another breath just as Sans plunged the bone back into them, going rather quickly. Absolutely drenching both of them in blood, Sans once more crushed the bone into Frisk's torso at an angle, scraping at the sides of the now large hole.
He began to cry psychotically, stabbing viciously into Frisk's corpse. He wailed for Papyrus, but alas, nobody came. Sans stared at the child's vacant, bloodied face, becoming eerily unsettled by their motionless. There was an odd film over Frisk's eyes, one that hadn't appeared the other times they had died. Sans had cared about them, still, so it was awful to see his pal like this. However, this wasn't his pal. He hated them, despite his half-hearted attempt to tolerate them once more. Actually, he didn't know how he felt or what to feel. Sans had very mixed emotions. Then, he remembered his brother. "No…" he thought. "We aren't friends. They killed-.... they killed him.. again.." Sans got off of Frisk, looking back to Pap's scarf. He sighed, putting it on again for the.. he didn't know how many times he'd worn that scarf. He just knew he hadn't worn it when Papy was alive.
Sans adjusted it, fiddling with the tattered end of it. A small, worn bit of paper fluttered out of one of the folds. He cocked an eyebrow bone. That was new. Sans picked it up, but it was blank? Sans then flipped it around, finding Papyrus' handwriting covering it. The note read;
"Dear brother, I am sorry. I can't take it anymore, being killed by the human over and over again. You probably don't know what I'm talking about, but- I'll be back, and you won't remember any of this happened. Hopefully. I'm running out of space, I'll see you soon. I'm sorry. This was my only choice. I'm sorry..
