I don't know how I missed this video. I love it!! So informational and essential. I really liked how you reiterated the 3 most important concepts at the end. Also, the spooling station from an Amazon Prime box is so ingenious! What a wonderful idea. Great video again brother
I just spooled my first baitcaster reel and got an uneven spool. I watched your video and learned that I did everything wrong. Redid it and it's perfect! Thanks!
Debo buddy you helped me NAIL the mistake I was making, TOO MUCH TENSION from me pinching my line as I filled my spool!🤦🏼♂️ Your channel is SO HELPFUL!!! Thanks as always!!!🤜🏻🤛🏻
Just bought my first baitcaster combo and tied on some braid directly without any research and definitely had it group up to the right. These videos have helped a ton. Thanks Debo!
Yup just bought for the first time in my life a baitcaster from China. I’ve always have bought from Japan, never a issue. My first Sougayilang keeps piling high in the middle and not even on spool sides. I’ve respooled multiple times now, worm looks good, line guide a little sloppy. Great video also!!!
I've done both holding it to one side as well as holding it tight at the front of the rod. One of my spools was way off balance on one side. I decided to just buy a line spooler which basically does what your spooling box does. thx for the tip Debo!
Every once in a while I go out to the propane tank, hook whatever bait is on the end of the line to the lift ring, make sure my guide arm is in the middle, not off to one side or the other, and walk off down the hill toward the mailbox. Once the line is completely spooled down to the tying point, guide arm in the middle as mentioned earlier, I begin walking myself back up the hill toward the tank, reeling in the line as I go. Since the guide was strategically placed in the center, it feeds from the middle of the spool to one side, back to the middle, then to the other side, back to the middle, and you get the point from here. By the time I reach the tank and tie off the bait to a rod eye, my line is nicely even across both sides. It's good to do this every few trips to the pond so you can spool out any loops or minor birds nest that my be down near the bottom, and it is a good way to even out the spool.
When I put new line on I pinch the line out in front of the reel about half way between the first rod line guide and the reel. I hold it pinched inside one of those little cloths made for cleaning cell phone screens, and the cloth is soaked with KVD Line and Lure conditioner, which acts as a lubricant and treats the line as I wind it on. I make sure not to pinch it too tight, and also hold it as centered as possible over the rod blank to try to prevent it from winding onto the reel heavy on one side. This seems to work just fine. One thing I’ve noticed is if it does wind heavy on one side, it’s not bad, and it usually fixes itself on its own after a few casts.
I am an old man, and have always had this, but got used to working my thumb and finger from left to right to keep it even. Had to subscribe brother, as you are going to make my spooling so much easier. I always wonder why... it always built up on one side more than the other, even though i was holding in the middle. Now to locate a box and a chopstick.
Also loosing the tension nob along with setting your ABS at zero will give your spool some play ,and that will also help in the process of keeping the line on even.
I find that in conjunction to all the things you mentioned, I have to adjust my spool tensioner so it is not too tight or too loose, same spool tension as when you're out there fishing. This helps the line lay more consistent on the spool after numerous casts and retrieves.
I had someone from basspro shop who made those mistakes on my reel now that I've seen how to avoid that from happening again I can finally fix that problem. Nice video
Spooling problems are a ultra rare occurrence for me but one of my reels was spooled up heavy to the right side. I'm not even sure it was me who spooled up that reel but after watching your video I did realize that it was me because it was the one time I didn't put it through that first guide. I have tons of reels and I just put on a new kast king speed on that rod so now I get to take that line off the other reel and do it right lol
Great vid that I'm sure took more time than many would realize. Lol I actually use one of my guitar stands and a piece of wire from a clothes hanger bent around it up at the neck so the spool is kinda against the rubber tubing than holds the neck.
Great job! A couple other causes I’ve run into involve the spool itself. I like to run some of my reels with a very loose spool tension.. If you orient the reel to either side when retrieving , The spool shifts that direction, causing it to be un-centered & uneven line lay....also the shims under the cast control cap, & non-handle side spool bearing can get overly dimpled if over tightened...The spool being oriented 1/16-1/8” in either directions can cause problems.
Those were excellent tips. I must admit, sometimes as I'm spooling my baitcasters, if I see the line starting to favor one side or the other, I will push the line in front of the line guide opposite the high side until the levels look even again.
Me tie knot wherever, me lots of tension using cloth, me tension next to spool. Me always have ***** up looking spools of $30 braid. Why the hell I just seen this video. Great content. Will definitely be respooling my reels.
Got my first baitcaster today and it happened to be a KK! Thanks you helped me more than any other video out there with clear instructions. Keep it up man!
I got some spoolin' to do, thanks for the information and guidance. I am one of those too tight guys and pretty sure that has contributed to a few 'reel" issues I've encountered. Thanks, I will be prepping tomorrow. I think my spinning reels are much more forgiving.
Aside from your good tutorial, I must say that I have an older version of that kastking spartacus reel and it's a very nice real ... Specially for throwing very light lures..very fine adjustable... used it in both salt and fresh water for several seasons now...:)
I love your videos I really hope someone sponsors you quickly other than KastKing.... They make a great short term product, for kids and seasonal anglers. You deserve the best!
I've got a Shimano Chronarch, it's a great reel, only issue I have is the spool - it's solid brass and smooth as an android's chin. Needs electrical tape so the line doesn't slip.
Awesome video man. My spinner bait combo has this issue and I never realized what caused it. I’ll be fixing that tomorrow thanks to your video. I may even re-spool my frog rod just to make sure it’s all good.
I just received the piscifun torrent and attempted to load it up with 30# braid. I have a homemade line spooling station that I’ve used over the years that works great, applying tension with a simple spring and butterfly screw. So I’m hands free as far as holding onto the line. I have never had a small baitcaster (I’m a ocean guy) but it spools the same as any conventional reel I have, making sure the line is even side to side. My arbor knot is in the center groove and guide eye is lined up with the groove. As I start loading the line I’m ending up with a “cup” on the spool side to side if that makes since. It seems the guide is traveling to far left and right, reaching the red fill line but leaving a considerable depression in the middle of the spool. Tried to adjust it by loosing the screw below the guide eye, but didn’t help on my next attempt. I’m afraid I’m going to open a can of worms right out of the box. Any suggestions?
Loved the video. I had that issue when I re-spooled my baitcaster last night with fluorocarbon. I long-casted a few times and it evened out. I’ll keep this in mind when I need to re-spool next time.
When reeling my abu Garcia pro max. My line guide gets stuck onto the left side then I have to slightly press on it to go right I dont know what's going on if it's just loose. Please help
It's probably a problem with the worm gear or pawl (as explained in the video) most likely the worm gear. It's fairly simple and cheap to replace and if you have trouble replacing it, i'm sure there are tutorials on UA-cam that would help.
Thanks I've had that issue before. How I fix it is I go outside tie the line off walk til all the line is done then I reel and slowly walk back. But now I know what not to do so that will save me a step.
Jovi_357 absolutely! Yea, if it starts to feed to one side you can also pull it over to the side that doenst have as much. Once you make a really long cast it will all even out. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for making this. I, normally, have my buddy that owns the local bass shop do it for me if I am super busy. But, if it is just me and I have time, I will string it up myself. Since watching your video, I see all that I have done wrong, in doing it myself and will try to avoid in the future. I also liked this and subscribed to your channel.
Crap....thank you so much! Re-spooling with braid and could not figure out why it was spooling so off center. I was holding the line off to one side. DOHHH!!!
I had this happen to one of my reels, and I wish I was making this up... It was literally a worker at bass pro shop!!! Who spooled it for me!!!😂 I was gonna say something, but I would have felt badly at the time to correct a grown man who worked at bass pro shop! (At the time I was 11 years old) and this wasn't a small reel, it was the big Penn 309!!!😂 Oh well, from then on, I just decided to spool my reels myself!😂
I have a tip and tie the line to something and backup a little bit and take off you're line until you get to the spool and then reel in slowly until its finished
i had trouble with a couple of new reels doing this. i use a reel spool i bought from wish.com for like 3 dollars. i see that maybe i should actuly put the reel on the rod to stop the uneven spooling. thanks for this bit of info.
DEBO'S Fishing As a side note most also don’t know why there’s a cut out on the side of a line spool box . Most think it’s for some line to stick out on the display shelf but it’s accually there so you can use the box as a spooling station.
Saved my ass. I was wondering why I had one side uneven. Well, duh, I held the line like a newbie (which I am!). Many thanks. Clear video and straightforward. Gonna dig down your channel :)
HERE'S A COUPLE MORE TIPS TO AVOID LINE "PILING UP ON 1 SIDE OF THE SPOOL" WHEN RE-SPOOLING NEW LINE: As per the norm, I always tie my line on at the center of the spool of course, as shown here in the video, but you CAN grasp your line with your fingers & thumb to keep tension by SIMPLY MOVING YOUR FREE HAND WAY AHEAD OF THE REEL. DO NOT "PALM THE REEL" AT ALL. HOLD YOUR ROD AT LEAST 10 TO 12 INCHES AWAY FROM THE REEL, AS YOU GRASP YOUR LINE TO KEEP TENSION ON IT. This keeps the line centered as it passes through your fingers & thumb & works like a charm, and the spool loads perfectly. Of course I ALWAYS run my line through the stripper guide on the rod when re-spooling. Tip #2 only works for people who are "good with their feet". I simply use both of my BARE FEET to grasp a long pencil that is passed through my filler spool on both sides USING MY TOES. I also put slight pressure on the filler spool with my FEET as I'm loading the line onto the spool. Ya have to be sitting down of course, to do it this way. And not everyone can use their toes & feet like some of us can. I can re-spool all 10 of my baitcasters this way, and do it rather quickly & easily. No "fancy line spooling gadgets" needed. I've been re-spooling using the above 2 methods for decades........and my line has NEVER piled up on 1 side of the spool. TRY IT.
You're very welcome. Yeah, I'm a hard core bass angler going back to 1969 as a kid. Fish now more than ever. I joke with folks sometimes about using your feet to re-spool by saying: "Ya better be hydrated, because it's a great way to get a cramp in your foot or toes".......OUCH.......lol. I figured out to move your hand way forward on the rod to grasp the line. It really does work. ( Aside from a faulty or malfunctioning worm gear/pawl, as you covered so well here. ) Tight Lines!
@@howabouthetruth2157 yea, I'll hold it up by the first guide from time to time. As long as there is a little tension, it's usually good. Lots of different ways to do it, just have to find what works for you. Thanks again my friend!
I've purchased my first baitcaster. Granted it's a cheap one which may be problem number 1, but it keeps backlashing the line in between the spool and reel no matter how much I calibrate the braking and maintain thumb control. So I have to remove the door and remove the backlash from the side every time. I also spooled it with my new piscifun spooling tool to ensure that it got a nice even spool. Frustrating
Well this would've been useful to watch earlier. First time using a baitcaster tonight and I birdnested the hell out of it bad enough I had to dig all the line off. The first time I spooled it was nice and even, but I used a wet cloth up by the first ring like I do my spincast reels. When I redid it tonight I was lazy and just held it super tight with my fingers. When I redid it, it's all off sideways. I broke rule 3, and couldn't figure out what I did wrong. Between this and your how to set up a baitcaster videos, I may not throw this thing in the garbage yet.
If you ever contemplate throwing your reels away, try taking them to bass pro shop and they should be able to replace or repair them, this should save you a lot of time and money looking for a new reel!👍
I put the spool of line in a pot of hot water to help get rid of line memory and the tension of it spinning in the water helps as I spool I spray line conditioner on the reel spool
Hello fishing🎣 friend you are amazing I love you fishing🎣 videos of Just bought my first shaksper durango 2 piece 6ft medium action baitcaster rod and a abuugarcia black max reel I'm so excited to go fishing and casting with my new baitcaster even though I know I'm going to get lot's of Bakelash lol 😂😂😂😂 but I'm going to have fun and enjoy my day 👍💯
Awesome video man!! I just spooled up my first baitcaster and it came out uneven, I had no idea why until I watched this video. Thanks for the the tips as always!
Flippin spot on dude. That's me re spooling my line on Thank you well explained Ps any good shallow spools for the Spartacus to cast light baits would u recommend?
I have this problem on both of my Kastking reels. I tried a couple of the tips you have here but it still spooled up unevenly anyway. I just fish them like they are. They work fine. My Abu Garcia's though seem like I dont have to go through all this trouble though to get them to spool evenly.
Thanks for watching man. Yea, I've had it happen from time to time with a number of different reels. If you make a long straight cast and reel it in, usually takes care of it.
Great vid! I’m expecting my first bait caster and reel tomorrow. Very excited! I want to fish with braided line. Do you advice to first spool a piece of nylon line and then switch to braided or start with braided? Greetings from the Netherlands!
I would say start with mono or (nylon). Get a feel for it. Then get some braid. Depending on your reels braid rating, go for the higher strength of braid according to the rating.
Braid is more expensive than mono. But it last longer than mono and floro lines. Invest in some good braided fishing line. I would suggest suffix 832 or powerpro. If you want line that's cost effective and just as good as the previous mentioned braid, I would go with spiderwire stealth or ultra cast. Personally, I use all three. Good luck and tight lines
DEBO'S Fishing And I ordered the Kastking Spartacus in seafoam so this information will definitely come in handy!!! Thanks for these awesome videos dude!!! 🔥🔥🔥
It's the 2018 version of the KastKing Spartacus range. It is a saltwater ready baitcasting reel. Sea foam is the color. Kind of like a sky blue pastel color...
I don't know how I missed this video. I love it!! So informational and essential. I really liked how you reiterated the 3 most important concepts at the end. Also, the spooling station from an Amazon Prime box is so ingenious! What a wonderful idea.

Probably the clearest, best tutorials on YT!
Superb everything - audio/video/editing/scripting - and the insertion of the funny music is GREAT!
I appreciate that a lot. Thanks for watching and hope it helps folks out!
You sir are a genius. I was scratching my head trying to figure out why my one reel went to one side. This helped . Thank you
Solved my problem. Won't be holding it to the right next time. Sucks having to pull the line back off after putting it on. Thanks for clearing it up

Easier on the baitcaster to trace the problem rather than on the spinning reel. Uneven spool makes you crazy. Love your tips bro. Thx

had the one sidedness happen once, made the hill in the center once, now i know how to avoid those issues in the future. thanks a million debo!!

Great timing for this video to show up. We just got a new baitcaster for my son and it did just as you showed in this video. Line more on one side.

Also you can tighten the pawl. I've had to do that with many reels. Fixes one sided spooling instantly.
Yep, people just have to be careful because on many reels you can crack it if you over tighten it.

Jasont0625 you're welcome man, glad it helped you out!
Oh the irony of that 😂😂😂👊
I have a tip and tie the line to something and backup a little bit and take off you're line until you get to the spool and then reel in slowly until its finished
i had trouble with a couple of new reels doing this. i use a reel spool i bought from wish.com for like 3 dollars. i see that maybe i should actuly put the reel on the rod to stop the uneven spooling. thanks for this bit of info.
nice video. i think this will solve the issue Im having which is the spool unraveling when i hit the cast button.
Brill vid , a lot of people don’t know this , good job of explaining
John Hanks thanks for watching man. I hope this helps a lot of people out! Appreciate you watching!

As a side note most also don’t know why there’s a cut out on the side of a line spool box .
Most think it’s for some line to stick out on the display shelf but it’s accually there so you can use the box as a spooling station.
John Hanks that's a good point my man! I use the box but put it through the top. Anglers helping anglers. Love it!

Brilliant mate, you've solved my mystery issue 👍
Tight lines 🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣
Thank you. Helps tremendously when transition to baitcasting reel!!
Saved my ass. I was wondering why I had one side uneven. Well, duh, I held the line like a newbie (which I am!). Many thanks. Clear video and straightforward. Gonna dig down your channel :)
Had this happen yesterday and this all makes good sense.
TRY IT.
Good tips man. Thanks for taking the time to share all of that. I'll admit, I've used the monkey to method before too hahah
Man I just subscribed to your channel.... Great stuff that most of us really overlook or just didn't realize what we were doing.
You're welcome and thanks for becoming a #verifiedfeeshinfriend 👊👊👊
I've purchased my first baitcaster. Granted it's a cheap one which may be problem number 1, but it keeps backlashing the line in between the spool and reel no matter how much I calibrate the braking and maintain thumb control. So I have to remove the door and remove the backlash from the side every time. I also spooled it with my new piscifun spooling tool to ensure that it got a nice even spool. Frustrating
I gotta redo one of my rods cause I held to tight during spooling lol! Very informative video..THANKS!
reptileluver011 awesome man, glad I could help! Thank you very much for watching!
I've had this problem. Good explaining....thank you DEBO'S Fishing
Been spoolin baitcasters for 40 years. Oh, the lopsided messes I've made!! Lol (I did figure it out eventually!!)
Great Video!!! Thanks for the lesson!!! Can't wait to fix my reel.
Tommy Mejia you're welcome my friend. Thanks for watching and commenting!
This help me a lot I’m new to using a bait caster so thank you
That's awesome, I'm glad I could help you out! Thanks for watching!
So that's what I've been doing wrong the whole time?! Thanks Deeb's
You're welcome, thanks for watching my friend!
I appreciate you watching man. Certainly hope these vids can help you. Good luck on the water!
Billy Stout yes, I definitely use line conditioner too. I've heard of the hot water for spinning reels. Thanks for adding info man!
your welcome dude oh I hope u like my casting video called Billy's blackmax 3 improved casting distance I mention you in it
Billy Stout I'll check that out man!
Thanks for this video I was never sure why line would bunch up on a certain side. I thought it was because of my knot I used on the spindle.
I hope it helped brother. Thanks for watching!
Great Video Brother, you got me all straighten out finally, Thank You
Flippin spot on dude. That's me re spooling my line on
Thank you well explained
Ps any good shallow spools for the Spartacus to cast light baits would u recommend?
I have this problem on both of my Kastking reels. I tried a couple of the tips you have here but it still spooled up unevenly anyway. I just fish them like they are. They work fine. My Abu Garcia's though seem like I dont have to go through all this trouble though to get them to spool evenly.
Thanks for watching man. Yea, I've had it happen from time to time with a number of different reels. If you make a long straight cast and reel it in, usually takes care of it.
Awsome, good advice, I've been doing a few things wrong, time to rectify this, cheers hahaha
There are always different ways to do things. I hope this helped you out my friend! Thanks for watching!
Nice I will just redo my bait casters no sweat thanks man 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I just had the same problem with my first bait caster... Thanx man!!!!
ZoofSkillzFishing you're welcome man, hope this helps you fix it up! Thanks for watching my friend!
DEBO'S Fishing And I ordered the Kastking Spartacus in seafoam so this information will definitely come in handy!!! Thanks for these awesome videos dude!!! 🔥🔥🔥
ZoofSkillzFishing awesome man, glad I could help! Tight lines!
ZoofSkillzFishing what is the kast king Spartacus in sea foam?
It's the 2018 version of the KastKing Spartacus range. It is a saltwater ready baitcasting reel. Sea foam is the color. Kind of like a sky blue pastel color...
Fantastic tutorial and great video closeups. Cheers 👍🏻🇬🇧
Thanks and hope it helped out!
Great information I noticed my reel had to much grease some times less is better. Thanks
Yep, a ton of grease and dirt can gum it all up. Thanks for watching and glad it helped man!

BambulanceMan that's sweet man! I'm glad this helped you out! Have a good week!
Welp i guess this could have been the cause of my nests today (first time fishing) thanks man.
