Couple questions because this is so cool. 1. Are you able to interact with real world objects while having the monster as your overall? Ex: could the monster pick up the keyboard, move it, type on it, etc.? 2. Would you be able to livestream to youtube with that as your live avatar? Thank you and awesome content!
Man, you are an inspiration. The fact you dive so deeply into the entire process, including the 3d modeling, skinning and rigging is very impressive and it gives me some hope that I can master all of these aspects including the mocap itself. The fact we can do this entire process solo is kind of mindblowing. Cheers man
This is a very good review and I'm glad to hear it from someone who is VERY EXPERIENCED with computer graphics. Even with a mocap suit, there is SO MUCH work involved... I've seen people new to mocap struggle with this concept
Excellent video! Very helpful to hear the perspective of someone who clearly knows what he’s talking about. Can relate as a 3d animator martial artist with some stunt experience :) Awesome home setup, and love the intro.
Fantastic Review!! Thank you. I myself am currently using a xbox kinect method to get mocap data for my spider-man short film. After not liking how long the workflow was, I reached out to Rokoko and they gave me %10 off a suit and after watching several reviews, I am sold. Thank you for the information. Will be posting a similar review now like yours as I feel like there is not enough cred on this suit. Looking forward to see more of your work.
I’m glad you went into detail about the suit, as I am sure people will think, oh great get the suit then I’ll have all my own mo cap solutions etc They still have to know how to use that particular 3D software, and know it pretty well.
Thank you for your review and the troll intro is simply amazing! I'm trying to understand if Rokoko Suit would help me. My biggest workflow problem is animating walk cycles. I use c4d's cmotion for them, but they are very limited. From what I'm reading here and there, right now the suit doesn't shine while you move. Is this actually true in your opinion? I will wait for some reviews about the 2nd version, but you seems very knowledgeable and I would like to hear your take on this aspect.
great review, thanks Dave. Exactly what i wanted to hear, so basically for all those that wanted a magic one click solution, this aint it, but for those that are comfortable using blender, maya, C4D etc then this is going to get them 90% of the way there then some additional tweaking in their software of choice is required. thats fine for me because like you i normally 'kitbash' various mo cap moves together, or edit them to suit my needs or make brand new animations from scratch, which takes a lonnnggggggg time so this would be perfect for me.
hello i have a question , if i record a basketball game and give the rokoko suite to one of the players , is it possible to replace this player with a real avatar ? can you use the motion capture system outside between real peoples ?
Loved the troll intro.. pretty neat! Great work! I've been contemplating buying this suit but in Sweden we get another $1000 in tax which makes it less appealing .. but this is the kind of video that matches what i would expect as endresult for the actual animation - The performance and the animations look the same and feel very crisp and snappy. What i wonder is why many other showcases of the Rokoko-suit fails so bad, (Or other suits as well ofcourse) , where the performance looks on point but still fails miserably to deliver the endresult, which in most cases feels bland, laggy and to an extent, very sloppy. Apart from adjustments while editing the mocap: Do you use any keyframereduction of the animation afterwards to get the snappy feel?
Dave I have a question I bought the full Rokoko suit and hands yaaaaaay! My question is I saw there is a better solution to the battery; a battery with WiFi in it. Would you know where I could purchase the battery WiFi solution? I can’t find where I saw this and I thought you might know.
How does this suit handle falls? Like if I was to get suplexed, would it record all of that movement after filters, or would it just kind of glitch out?
When it comes to solo animations, not much at all. Any cleanup I had to do was when I was combining animations where I played multiple characters. That was no fault of the suit, of course, but rather me not aligning my movements perfectly when performing them one at a time.
Dave Macomber thanks for the reply Dave. I got the suit and it’s awesome!! Gonna save me a LOT of time! Ordered the smart gloves as well. Thanks again for your great reviews on the suit which influenced me to purchase it.
I'm a huge fan of the suit and the company. Great product. That said, there's a lot to know and learn about how to make the best use of it. Rokoko does have facial capture technology -- I used Cinema 4D's native stuff for the face capture in the review, but Rokoko's looks to be equally robust.
Dave Macomber I thank you so much I’m about to buy a full solution finger, body, and face in a month and I want to get the best for the dollar. Me and my team also have chosen blender as the software because there isn’t but in the software and millions love it

Great review. I’m still new to MOCAP and especially live MOCAP streaming and I’ve become more grounded in what to expect as far as clean up.
Thanks! BTW, I've been following your virtual studio work for a while (and was an early adopter of your C4D tools). Very impressive and inspiring.

That intro shoot just amazing🔥Btw is there any way to get that awesome goblin model?

Thank you for your review, it sold me.

Thank you... Good info!
that animation in the beginning ... you should make movies with it
Thanks so much! This was really helpful.

lol i just came from this video ua-cam.com/video/S8zPczOlorA/v-deo.html

Could you use off the shelf Velcro straps to lengthen the arm straps?
Probably? The suit fits me well enough that the straps don't even need to be there, truthfully -- the nodes don't feel like they're going anyplace.
Dave If you don’t mind me asking, after doing kick/punch combos and other fighting moves, did you have to do much ‘clean up’ please? If so how much?
When it comes to solo animations, not much at all. Any cleanup I had to do was when I was combining animations where I played multiple characters. That was no fault of the suit, of course, but rather me not aligning my movements perfectly when performing them one at a time.

hey can you tell me whats your free standing punch unit your using at 5.00?
Question can I make a good film with this suit and if not then which suit should I get? Also facial capture????
