I am a totota trained person. Having won their national skill championship. I can vouch for totota quality and systems Agree fully to what mr sorabjee said. My 1st training with them we were all told. You might be 5 to 10 years experienced in other oem but need to start fresh with toyota. And that sentence changed my life. Trust me toyota is The best in terms of systems. Imfact any issue on the production line is rewarded for stopping production and rectifying the mistake there and them. Been to Japan and it's basically their culture that reflects in toyota I could go on and on and on praising them. Miss my days with toyota.
Have a Etios since 2011, yes, the car flopped hard due to its design and barren features but let me tell you... It's been almost 15 yrs of that car, and that car is still working flawlessly... no creaking sounds or emission issues, never had a single engine breakdown or tyre life issue... And even though I do take care of my cars, but I've driven that Etios very ugly as well in its initial years when I younger... Out of the 4 cars that I own (Etios (2011), Swift (2017), Astor (2022) & my recently acquired Ionic 5 EV (Sept 2024)) I really think Etios is the least worry for me when it comes to maintenance (ofc Ionic 5 is literally new so I am not counting it) and that's my oldest car of the lot... So yeah, Toyota is reliability king... A boring king but practical one...

The Marazzo failure is perplexing and disappointing. Literally no complaints, no problems that any customer or reviewer could point out. Still the buyers steered clear of it and eventually Mahindra had to discontinue.
Having owned Toyota Corolla 1.8 H5 MT I can tell engine performance, reliability, sales, service, customer care and resale values are quite excellent and no other brand has given me complete peace of mind like Toyota. It is the best selling car brand in the Middle East as well.

I'm in Hong-Kong right now, and I spot numerous sedans and SUVs that Toyota could have brought to the Indian market - the Corolla, Corolla Cross, RAV 4, Sienta, ........Toyota are too conservative and also suffer from a superiority complex. It's only lately that they've come to accept India as a frontline market.

I disagree with Mr Sobrabjee on Fortuner. People aren't buying it for reliability, they are buying it because our Netas use it. It gives a people a sense of accomplishment and gangsta status.
And why do you think the netas use it? We all know they can easily buy BMWs and Mercs . But they regularly travel 200-300 kms a day and the only car in india currently that has proven ironclad reliability in that price bracket is the Fortuner. Use your head man!
Toyota has an arrogant mindset....They will remain marginal players in the market unless they understand this. They are not customer centric. Take it or leave it attitude
I have been driving Toyotas for the last 22 years, absolutely love them. First a Qualis RS, then Innova and right now an Innova cysta automatic, my first automatic. My wife and I love to go on long drives and the biggest reason why I love them is the reliability. You enter the car and start driving it. Just a couple of weeks ago I drove 900 kilometers from Bandhavgarh to my home in Delhi with my wife. Did it in 14 hours with 3 breaks. The crysta has done approximately 40k in two and a half years. Did a trip to Gujarat and MP each in last two years, both approximately 3k kms each. Just get the service done at regular intervals and it will never trouble you. Also if you’re a Toyota car enthusiast, watch a channel called The Car care Nut Guy, gives a great insight into car care., very knowledgeable.
very truly stated I owned a Toyota crysta top model with 17 inch wheels and every other month it kept running into problems with its tyre profile being 210 changed them to 220 but still it always caused problems regarding puncture and bubbles, they were os costly to replace , it was first time in my life where I got fed up with a Toyota (being a owner of Qualis since 99")
Great Podcast as always! You should have talked about Lexus as well. Would have love to know what was Toyota's thinking when they took the decision to bring that brand to India. How is that brand currently doing in India, and what could they do to compete with the Germans in India at that price point.

Whilst I totally agree with Toyota;s approach (also having lived , worked and educated in Japan; I do believe their customer service in India sucks. In the Hycross case, the dealers are taking customers for a ride. They wont give you delivery or service, unless you buy accessories. What a shame.
I have owned Toyota Glanza G Petrol for a year and have been getting almost 30-32 Mileage since the first day. I am very much satisfied with the comfort, reliability, and Performace with mileage.
During my long association with TKM, I heard a grapevine that TMC and their wholly owned subsidiary 'Daihatsu' were in talks for launching or developing a small car for India. I call it a grapevine because I could never verify its authenticity. Daihatsu is known for its expertise in small cars and MPVs, and had models that would have been well-suited to the Indian market. The talk was that Toyota decided (what we in hindsight know was a mis-step) to develop an entirely new platform for the Etios and Liva aimed at the small car market in India because the talks failed. A key point of disagreement was that both Toyota and Daihatsu wanted their own branding on the vehicles. Despite Daihatsu being a wholly-owned subsidiary of Toyota, the Boards of both companies operate as independent decision-makers and prioritise and protect the interests of their respective brands. This indicates the strong work ethics and corporate governance that TMC follows. Otherwise they could have just steamrolled their decision on Daihatsu.
Brilliant Content as usual about history & Insights of Toyota. Their main plus point is bulletproof engines. Although asking Suzuki to provide them with swift or Jimmny they should have brought Yaris hatchback here and they were testing it here as well. They have such good cars globally. Amazing stuff to touch up on that Toyota the cloth loom company getting into cars. Like Ducati a bike manufacturer used to make 📻 Radio once. Amazing stuff 🤘🏻💯🚗👌🏼
Loved the podcast and it’s very unfortunate that their Etios did not click. But from my experience of owning that car it’s really super reliable and sturdy and full of space of course with less features. But still was a good product.
If Mahindra can introduce a hybrid or even a diesel and petrol combination vehicle with good space management and ride quality as anyway, they’re awesome with features, I am sure there’ll be a solid contender for Innova. Its because Mahindra listens when saying something but not sure if Toyota is listening to us.
History in india says toyota petrol cars have never sold , only diesels have ruled in toyota , but this new hybrid tech is giving them sales but diwnside is its a 3 cylinder engine in a 20-24 lakhs car

Guys we just went through almost all the cars in the price range of 14 to 19,00,000 on road(assam). I’m over 6ft3 and 220lbs of lean ahh muscles😅 tried Nexon and it was unbearably small for me. Same goes with Sonet,seltos,kushaq,etc. The only thing that stick out was the Mahindra Thar Roxx. And also some amount of Scorpio N is there any car in this price range other than this two that will be suitable for me? Also, the car has to be family friendly to some extent(3-4 trips of 200 km, each every year and mostly city) also, the other members of my family, also quite tall and muscular. I have selected thar roxx mx3 rwd pt torque converter. Is this a good option? Will be driven mostly by dad but also me… he is loving it but mom finds the look a bit polarizing. Main problemwith every other car is the headroom and the width of the cabin.
No. Unless India reduces the import tax, it doesn't make any sense to bring Prius. India market for hybrids is not large enough for Toyota to set up a factory here.
In India Maruti has been supporting Toyota with their models so bridge the gap until they reach flex fuels stage with hydrogen powered cars and their hybrids , they were always against pure EVs considering carbon production of 1 EV equals to about 7-8 that of hybrids and about 15-17 ICE cars, they understand the industry very much and are just taking support from Maruti in short term while they make plans for long terms time has made a full circle here, hopefully Toyota will give us good hybrids and ICE products which are Toyota OG and not rebadged.
@Hormazd Sir any news on the next generation crysta ? i have a crysta, want to buy another one but dont want both to be the same. Also i did not like the hycross at all. Crysta is an actual toyota for me.
Till date the best 7 seater alternative to crysta is hycross. No one comes close. Ertiga is the best 7 seater among remaining as affordable and as reliable as toyota
I have worked with a tier 1 company. We had multiple OEM customers. There are technical point of contacts for each OEMs. People in my company would literally fight within themselves for Toyota because of how simple and how easy to live with they are . Hyundai is the worst. I have heard stories where books where thrown at supplier people by a koreans(obviously!) for part issues
Toyota did what was right for brand --- had they continued with qualis -- it would have killed the brand image --- and this is reason this is only brand which operates successfully from -10 to 3 crores segment

I just can't call Vehicles with 1.2kWh battery packs as "Strong Hybrids". There is nothing strong with a 1.2kWh batteries. I love EVs, but if Toyota and other OEMs launch actually Strong Hybrids with a 10 or 15kWh battery packs, I'll be happy.
My guess is in future Toyota would not go for badge engineering with Suzuki..they would rather develop joint platforms with a different design language..something what Hyundai - Kia,Renault - Nissan are doing..similar platforms but different design language…
5000 crore profit , but still hesitant to bring Avenza , CHR , Rave4 , Corolla cross hybrid and Prius to India … these cars are rolling the roost in Indonesia, Australia etc … Alphard and Land Cruiser are expensive so we understand… however the other models are perfect for India … Plz Toyota management, plz bring them to India … make it Win win for both
So the future of Toyota tells me that I shouldn’t be purchasing any Toyota in the future , it’s better to buy a lexus as they are on par with the global landscape with refreshed models on a regular basis and also because they are not rebadged Suzuki !
Working in Toyota dealer for 9months now, & there is no demand for alliance products , only hycross has demand. Where as crysta & fortuner has lost it’s market drastically

I took a test drive of hycross. Firstly they had so much nakhre in giving test drive. Then they came in with enough petrol only for 5 km. The car itself was underwhelming both in terms of drive quality as well as interior. The entire time i was wondering why would anyone who drives a car (and is not chauffeur driven) will purchase this vehicle? It makes sense for cab or for driver driven vehicle though.
Toyota and Honda still don't make their parts available to open market. Karol bagh sellers have setting with service center and they sell parts at premium like black market. Old Toyota vehicle's service from outside mechanic is challenging. Specially where they don't have reach e.g. small village in Himachal. I live in Palghar Maharashtra which is 100kms from Mumbai but Toyota don't have service center here .
Toyota outside India: 🦁 Toyota in India: 🐱 All thanks to the govt. that enforces tax based on size and not emissions, and continues to issue rebates to hybrids.

India is now a Suv market, so there are 0 chance that Toyota who has mostly suvs in India can even think of bringing Sedans in India and fail.

Very very reliable, their petrol engines run lakhs of kms with normal maintenance & hybrids are as good as the battery life

Toyota is not a Toyota anymore in the Indian car market. It's a Suzuki.
@Hormazd Sir any news on the next generation crysta ? i have a crysta, want to buy another one but dont want both to be the same. Also i did not like the hycross at all. Crysta is an actual toyota for me.

Till date the best 7 seater alternative to crysta is hycross. No one comes close. Ertiga is the best 7 seater among remaining as affordable and as reliable as toyota

I have worked with a tier 1 company. We had multiple OEM customers. There are technical point of contacts for each OEMs. People in my company would literally fight within themselves for Toyota because of how simple and how easy to live with they are . Hyundai is the worst. I have heard stories where books where thrown at supplier people by a koreans(obviously!) for part issues
Toyota did what was right for brand --- had they continued with qualis -- it would have killed the brand image --- and this is reason this is only brand which operates successfully from -10 to 3 crores segment

I just can't call Vehicles with 1.2kWh battery packs as "Strong Hybrids". There is nothing strong with a 1.2kWh batteries. I love EVs, but if Toyota and other OEMs launch actually Strong Hybrids with a 10 or 15kWh battery packs, I'll be happy.
10-15 kwh is a plugin hybrid
My guess is in future Toyota would not go for badge engineering with Suzuki..they would rather develop joint platforms with a different design language..something what Hyundai - Kia,Renault - Nissan are doing..similar platforms but different design language…

5000 crore profit , but still hesitant to bring Avenza , CHR , Rave4 , Corolla cross hybrid and Prius to India … these cars are rolling the roost in Indonesia, Australia etc … Alphard and Land Cruiser are expensive so we understand… however the other models are perfect for India … Plz Toyota management, plz bring them to India … make it Win win for both
So the future of Toyota tells me that I shouldn’t be purchasing any Toyota in the future , it’s better to buy a lexus as they are on par with the global landscape with refreshed models on a regular basis and also because they are not rebadged Suzuki !
Working in Toyota dealer for 9months now, & there is no demand for alliance products , only hycross has demand. Where as crysta & fortuner has lost it’s market drastically
If a company like Hyundai can understand and crack the market than why can't Toyota. Just visit the competitor showrooms observe and interact with customers. See the figures of automotive sales and understand the products that are working

I took a test drive of hycross. Firstly they had so much nakhre in giving test drive. Then they came in with enough petrol only for 5 km. The car itself was underwhelming both in terms of drive quality as well as interior. The entire time i was wondering why would anyone who drives a car (and is not chauffeur driven) will purchase this vehicle? It makes sense for cab or for driver driven vehicle though.
Toyota and Honda still don't make their parts available to open market. Karol bagh sellers have setting with service center and they sell parts at premium like black market. Old Toyota vehicle's service from outside mechanic is challenging. Specially where they don't have reach e.g. small village in Himachal. I live in Palghar Maharashtra which is 100kms from Mumbai but Toyota don't have service center here .
