I don't know why it has to be a see-swa strategy, where this strategy will help sales and new customers but it will down the image. They do have ALOT of cars that are suited for Indian markets. Toyota the world's biggest car co. we are talking here. Instead of see-swa, a straight win win situation can be achieved. Like Mahindra did by focusing on SUV and not on mileage (India's top priority). Anyways, I/we are not the sellers. They might* know what they are doing.

Somehow this strategy worked for us. My family bought a Kia Sonet bcoz every family member was reluctant to buy Hyundai Venue bcoz of it's looks and it was a Hyundai. But after seeing design of the Sonet with the customer service experience of Kia, everyone agreed to buy the Sonet in a heartbeat.
*Older maruti cars were also jointly developed with other car manufacturers! For ex- SX4 also known as fiat sidici and Ritz was also known as splash developed with opel!*
Carens sharing the same platform as i10 is a real shocker!! I had i10 and now carens and the space difference is Enormous! This is marvelous engineering in my opinion!
Earlier when Honda CD 100 and Suzuki 2 stroke were introduced ...most of parts were sourced from same sources eg. Jumpers, cables, mudguards, stands etc. Now trend is active in cars segment .
Good content .. you should have explained the 4 different type of sharing between brands 4. Last minute logo swap with no changes aka maruti and toyota 3. Logo swap after car development for increased sales like renault / nissan from dacia duster 2. Joint development from start of product development like vw and skoda for vento or kushaq 1. Platform sharing with complete different product development teams who try using part from same bin wherever it suits them aka vw golf and audi A3. To add to this there is difference between perceived quality between brands. Expected quality difference in india between Skoda and vw is minimal. People who are buying toyota and getting maruti are cheated big time. That is what makes that ' sharing' bad for consumer and disastrous for company in long run
Totally Agree. Platform Sharing does indeed give a wider scope to the manufacturers to develop better features and aesthetics of the car. Rebadging on the other hand gives less space for the creativity although being cost effective. Toyota should bring in their RAV-4 to the Indian market and Hybrid to the fortuner. Waiting to see what Suzuki would do with these 2 models.
Thank you for this video, definitely providing new knowledge to us users. One thing makes me think further is Hyundai's K1 platform on which cars like venue, i20 & carena are made...are Hyundai compromising on any factors like safety, by making bigger cars on platforms earlier used to make smaller cars? .Requesting to to make a deeper video on this highlighting the pros and cons of such cross usage of platforms. If any other reading material on this, kindly share any links on this as well.
The perception of the Indian customer to etios and yaris is the cause. With high government taxes. Thats why I think maruti and Toyota collaborated. Yaris and etios are very practical cars and Toyota did a lot of stuff themselves before releasing these cars into the market. They would have spent millions to develop these cars .ive heard that the Japanese themselves came to India to study what the market wants. They did this in the US and thats how they became no.1 there. But in India the total opposite happened. The market backstabbed toyota. Toyota is also partly to blame because their advertising and designing department was behind compared to other manufacturers, but their goal was practicality over everything. In the end, the market has changed, emission norms, safety etc. and building cars more suitable for customers requests are slowly on the decline. So because of the maruti and Toyota partnership, toyota has two options...copy Maruti suzuki , or introduce their own models. But if they introduce their own model, maruti will copy sooner or later. It can cause toyota some losses. So i think they r trying to play safe. Observing the maruti model becoming a success, and then releasing their rebadged model in the market is safe for them
Have booked the Glanza this month, because I prefer it's design over Baleno which is subjective ofcourse also, I managed to get more than 1 lakhs of discount and free extended warranty for 5 years, which was the dealbreaker for me and surprisingly am getting Glanza at a much cheaper price than what the Nexa dealerships were providing for Baleno
Hyundai is the parent company of Kia, it's not a collaboration, it's just that hyundai does the same research for both and be efficient. Sane is the case for skoda where volkswagen is the parent company
I completely agree, it has become very essential to focus on value and quality while considering options which rely on platform sharing. Imo, the image of toyota has fallen down. They are known for creating high quality stuff but rebadging suzuki cars has tarnished that USP.
Both need to fix their own stuffs first. Or they need to partner with brands who don't have mechanical fault like: Toyota, Suzuki, Mitshubishi, BMW. You Know Force Moters? Study about them and their collaboration. The only Indian Brand which I know for their best collaboration and most trusted engine supplier for Audi and BMW.

Totally agree and brand like Toyota must do something about this because we want to buy a Toyota design international product not other brands products from their showrooms and these copy things run only for 1-2 year than people start buying other brands
0:35 Correction :- Hyundai & Kia is "NOT" a tie up, they're related in a way that Hyundai is the mother company of Kia & Kia cars are basically derived from Hyundai, more like Toyota & Lexus rather than Toyota & Ind Suzuki in India.
Today, I had my second Honda Elevate test drive of the top model, the CVT ZX. However, I must say that it doesn't feel like a true Honda product; it only bears the Honda name. On rough roads, there is excessive cabin noise, especially in the back. The cabin is spacious enough and can be considered the best in its segment. However, the excessive noise is a major issue. The suspension needs significant improvement compared to market competitors like the Creta and Seltos, as well as accelerator noise while pressing the race pedal. I tried both slow and aggressive driving, but the result was the same. I'm not sure if the test drive model I used had specific issues, but I tried two test drives from different dealerships because the overwhelmingly positive reviews intrigued me. I have to wonder why the Creta and Seltos have had such peak sales performance. While I need a family vehicle for the long term, I don't want to rely solely on a brand name. I test drove the Hyryder, Seltos, Creta, Nexon, and Elevate, all in the petrol segment. However, I was disappointed by their price-to-performance ratio. This segment is particularly confusing for buyers in the 15 lakh price range. In my experience, the Grand Vitara is cheap market garbage for such a premium segment of 15-20 lakhs. I'm still confused about what to buy. If anyone has any good experiences with a good vehicle under 15 lakhs in May 2024, please let me know; it would be a great help.
Hyundai owns roughly 34% in Kia. Both are sister companies so the collaboration shouldn't come as a surprise. Same goes for VW and Skoda as VW Group wholly owns Skoda. Nissan and Renault both are struggling brands in their respective home markets. So maybe that explains. I think Toyota simply doesn't want to invest to make entry level market in India. Their most successful cars like Camry and RAV4 are staple cars in the US where they are sold in lacs annually. Camry is a taxi car in Dubai. While they would sell only in a few thousands in India even if they make it locally. Btw RAV4 and Fortuner sell for roughly the same price in Dubai. And many people don't like Fortuner because it is body on frame and isn't as comfortable. But people are crazy behind Fortuner in India. So no wonder they dont see a point to bring RAV4 in India to compete against Tucson and Tiguan because they don't have a market in India for these cars.
There was a company called sipani motors in 90s that launched a car called Montana. This was a fiberglass bodied car which costed 10-20 K less than maruti 800. At that time, 10 thousand was a big number... Apart from that the usual drill of "swaraj or vocal for local" kind of stuff was spreading rapidly. The fiberglass body was like well, it was hard, but if you met with an accident, you'd have to chip off the entire part! Mechanical parts: just like Tata of today, the manufacturer imported different parts like engine, gearbox and electrical components were imported from different countries. Funny thing, they took turn signals, headlights and some other components from maruti Suzuki 😅 the result was that the engine was actually built by a British company originally for tractors, but was fit in this car, so the whole car shook like a vibrator. Also, it failed almost once in a month. My father was too excited at the prospect of swaraj thing and bought this car over maruti 800 in 90s. Due to extreme failure rate of this car and non existent customer service, most owners filed a PIL and eventually the courts ordered 50% of the cost to be given back to the owners. Promptly, most people gave it back, but my father was on another level of desi stuff. He retained his car. Even after the company closed, my father kept driving this contraption for 15 years!!!! Sipani motors had a garage where they kept spares and it was like a garden sale. You could purchase based on your need. He kept purchasing the parts and shelling money to local garages to get the car in running condition almost every month. The car broke down numerous times on relatively longer trips like 150-200 kms around and had to be repaired and we had to halt in numerous unknown places just for the sake of the car. I was terrified and anxious all the time abkut the car breaking down even as a child. After mechanical parts at sipani exhausted, the local mechanics suggested to install ambassador and fiat parts! 😬 It's only in mid 2000s that my father realized his mistake. Even today he says never buy an unknown brand and especially if they are selling by exploiting your nationalistic emotions. He regrets and says he never experienced a single day of peace of mind ownership due to the horrible experience. He also says, only if he had purchased maruti 800 first hand which was just 10 K more, he'd have enjoyed the driving experience and did not have to travel by bus and auto inspite of owning a car. It's very easy to invoke nationalistic emotions in anyone, but performance is like mother nature... She doesn't care if you are good or bad, Indian or American, she just is and will eradicate the weakest. PS: eventually we bought a Maruti 800 in 2005 or something and this car was parked infront of the house, until the municipality ordered us the remove the car. My father sold it for 5000 to a local kabadi shop. Children would often use this car to play car-car. The car costed 1 lakh something!
Good video. The only collaboration here is between Toyota and Suzuki all others belong to the same group or are owned by each other. 'Brand' is just a marketing differentiator; you can see it in different products and very often sitting at different price points. That atleast is not the case in cars. The reason Toyota has taken this approach is they have been unsuccessful in the small/budget category, they simply cannot manufacture & sell competitive models in that category. They have tried and failed, so instead of burning more money they have adopted this approach to capture this market share. No loss for the Indian buyer as the models you speak off would have never come or would have put all of Toyota in the same category as Honda. To me there is not much of a differentiator between Hyundai and Kia, save the set of features they offer. The 'car' as such feels the same. Personally I would not rank them as its the brands prerogative, if it doesn't suit the customer then the models (and this strategy) will fail
As usual very informative videos... Please make a video in the impact of new car makers coming to India like the EVR motors from Israel and the Vinfast from Vietnam. Another video would be to make the future of hybrid cars, as you already made the video on the future of electric car.
Thank you for making such informative videos. I need your help in making decisions like, which dash cam is best (front & rear both)? I also want to know if the mileage of CNG cars is low on petrol if compared to only petrol cars.
I compared glanza and Baleno in cardekho yesterday. Both cars are similar. Same design, same engine, same dimensions, same build quality. Why are they doing this?
To survive in India and its high tax regime. They don't want to die like ford, chevy, fiat. They're hoping one day Indian govt will have a change of heart and rethink its policy.
I think it's a good thing to have rebadged cars option for buyers because different companies have their own perks. For example, if you take Glanza and Baleno, the service of Toyota is much better than Suzuki same goes for Virtus and Slavia, where Volkswagen has better service and behavior than Skoda on the other hand Skoda has better resale than Volkswagen.
Haha, no. It seems you don't own any Toyota badged Maruti car then... Their service team doesn't care about anything else except their premium Fortuners.
I live in Croatia and I know about these things quite well. I don’t know about it much from Indian market perspective because I have never experienced it at all so I will only say things from the European market perspective and what people think of these joint ventures. You will hardly find Suzuki cars here so forget about ToyotaxSuzuki partnership. And Toyota have all these cars like Yaris, CH-r, Rav4 etc. Renault is not a stable company and they don’t know what they want! They launch cars and discontinue them within few years. But they made great mass consumer centric cars like Talisman, Kadjar etc. Infact we were looking for a sedan and Talisman was our best bet but we didn’t go for it since it’s discontinued. The quality issue for this partnership probably depends on the market and also its more of a Nissan problem than Renault. New Renault cars even that’s coming out of the joint venture are getting praises for being well built and use of premium materials. We bought the Renault Clio 2022 and it rivals Germans in every department. Such a lovely small car. It’s pity how India don’t get this car. It’s the best small car in the market beating VW Polo, Škoda Fabia and Toyota Yaris. It’s also cheap unlike the Germans. And ŠkodaxVW collaboration isn’t a big deal here. VW is so big that it’s more like they own Škoda rather than they are partners. But people believe Škoda is a better purchase than the VWs because they are now literally making the same cars with different badging with just slight design changes. And what VW does is it being the leading company, the new techs and features first come with their own cars and end up with Škoda so by the time the features are put on Škoda, the flaws will be corrected and fixed. So people here say that VW is for enthusiasts while Škoda is for wise people.
And as per HyundaixKia collab, they basically make the same cars here. Hyundai makes more mature cars while Kia goes for designs and techs. Atleast thats the case here. Old or family folks buy Hyundai i30 while the youngsters buy Kia Ceed/XCeed.
One major for brands getting into "collaboration" mode is due to CAFE norms. For instance, Toyota needs to sell smaller cars with lower emissions to continue selling their huge diesel SUVs.
I purchased a Glanza G-Hybrid in 2021 and a Baleno zeta was purchased in my family just a couple of months later. The difference in after sales and service experience is night and day for the past 3 years. Toyota technicians are somehow more superior when comes to fixing issues in a product made by Maruti itself. They're way better informed and sophisticated due to handling much more premium products for years. Plus the sheer numbers of sales hamper the service experience as Maruti service centers are almost always crowded and you find yourself to be lost in the crowd and unanswered. On top of that toyota offered superior warranty as standard 3Y/75K Km as compared to maruti 2Y/40K Km....That's just my perspective based on my personal experience. We should not just outright bash the company for rebranding but also look if there's a better deal for us in there.
Sir Skoda aut Volkswagen bhi to rebadged hi lagte hi side se sirf front se platform sharing lagte hai. Sirf old Fabia and old Polo proper platform sharing and other CBU route models and rebadged types are Vento, Rapid, Virtus, Slavia, Kushaq and Taigun.
How car manufacturers are creating arficial shortage of cars by giving waiting periods of years on lower trims of cars and what measures should be implemented on manufacturers
Toyota Yaris and RAV-4 are amazing cars, like Yaris is a perfect family hatchback, and if they bring Yaris GR then it's going to be one of the best hot hatches (considering if Toyota manufactures them in India itself) and RAV-4 will be an amazing Creta Rival with AWD and more power.
1st would VW/Skoda partnership because they have made a great comeback with the 2.0 strategy... People don't understand the R&D and engineering behind the German brands abd rgeir reliability and higher cost of ownership stories have forced people to go towards Koreans
Well analysed. Buyers are not really benefitted except for few car models. But isn’t Kia Corporation and Hyundai Motor Company Fall under same parent company Hyundai Motor Group? Similarly Volkswagen Group is also parent company for Skoda, Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche etc. And Tata Harrier is built on Land Rover D8 platform which is the platform in Range Rover Evoque. Here Harrier buyers are really benefitted by the build quality of Evoque blended into Harrier. Hence barring strategic collaboration between Toyota and Suzuki, i feel the platform sharing and rebranding generally happens between automakers falling under the same parent company.

Anyways,
I/we are not the sellers. They might* know what they are doing.
sir Kiger have 4 star rating their build quality is better than most of the car present in Indian Car Market, but i agree with your point they have refinement issues in their cars.
But why are still both magnite and kiger considered as bad cars like not so good
The doors of Kiger feel like a tin can. And then there are insulation issues in both of them.
Kiger good car
Interior quality bhi low h..but but they are also decently priced for they offer.
For the price, sahi hai... tata ka networking, service centers availability, build quality, refinement accha hai..
But Nissan/Renault ki dono gariyo mein CVT turbo variants milta hai..
Mere pas Tata Nexon Pure revotron amt hai aur Nissan Magnite xv premium turbo CVT hai.. Nexon feels reliable and Nissan feels fun to drive.
I have been watching your videos lately and one thing that I really enjoy is your approach is non conventional. Thanks.
I was waiting for your next video and it has been finally arrived😌❤
Nice job bro, I barely watch Indian car videos or Indian car reviewer/UA-camr. You're so good with sticking to the point and your style of review
Your videos are so informative. I watch them all. Keep up the good work!!
Plz make a video on Genesis cars line up, when it is coming in India and at what price point they are launching the cars ❤
Genesis is a hit in international markets within a short span. Its far better than Toyota's Lexus and gives a tough competition to German luxury brands.

Still watching the car video
Thanks for bringing out dedicated video on this topic and also pin pointed the combinations that are actually delivering value to Indian customers.. Kudos.. 👏👏
Wow! So amazingly narrated- some of the examples of platform sharing I didn’t even know! Thank you man, you’re one of the best auto channels out there! Also, P.S. please bring back english subtitles! Thanks again:)
Also, not to forget Pontiac GTO and Vauxhall Monaro VXR, Opel Speedster and Vauxhall VX220, Opel Agilia and Suzuki Splash/Ritz and Alfa Romeo Tonale and Dodge Hornet.
Really good video.
VW & Skoda give quality for the money spent in compare to any brands mentioned here
Somehow this strategy worked for us.
Even if you wanna go for rebadged a car go for one with better warranty and services.
Too good! This is the kind of automotive journalism India needs.
*Older maruti cars were also jointly developed with other car manufacturers! For ex- SX4 also known as fiat sidici and Ritz was also known as splash developed with opel!*
SX4 was fab.
Your channel is only for real carguys your content is phenomenal brother❤
0:17 bro you missed volkswagen and skoda
Oh, it's eye opening for the general public. Please keep it up. ❤🎉
Carens sharing the same platform as i10 is a real shocker!!
I had i10 and now carens and the space difference is Enormous! This is marvelous engineering in my opinion!
Iam a employee at Toyota Kirloskar Motors,in Bangalore and I agree with you. Yes they share the platforms .
3:15 Innova Hyryder😂😂
Thanks!
Earlier when Honda CD 100 and Suzuki 2 stroke were introduced ...most of parts were sourced from same sources eg. Jumpers, cables, mudguards, stands etc. Now trend is active in cars segment .
1:28 Oh no!! OH YESS!! Suzuki Fortuner Hybrid
Excellent insights bro. I’ve always wondered what’s going on with these copied cars. That too from reputed manufacturers
Fantastic video! Interesting insights. Thanks for everything that you do 🙌🏼
Fresh and quality content ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Waiting for your car reccomendations 🤩🤩🤩
Great analysis always had a thought that some collab is there between those brands mentioned in the videos.
Good content .. you should have explained the 4 different type of sharing between brands
4. Last minute logo swap with no changes aka maruti and toyota
3. Logo swap after car development for increased sales like renault / nissan from dacia duster
2. Joint development from start of product development like vw and skoda for vento or kushaq
Your video is really adding value in our time
Fantastic video🎥🎥
Thank you for this video, definitely providing new knowledge to us users. One thing makes me think further is Hyundai's K1 platform on which cars like venue, i20 & carena are made...are Hyundai compromising on any factors like safety, by making bigger cars on platforms earlier used to make smaller cars? .Requesting to to make a deeper video on this highlighting the pros and cons of such cross usage of platforms. If any other reading material on this, kindly share any links on this as well.
Architect turned into a youtuber! Love your content amigo.. 🍁
Observing the maruti model becoming a success, and then releasing their rebadged model in the market is safe for them
Brother u r a professor in this field... Please keep it up🎉
best channel for automobile industry.
Compared to Suzuki, Toyota is safe and reliable.
Although it has the same engine as Baleno, but here I will be getting Toyota 's service experience which is better compared to Maruti's
BRO REMEMBER
YOU ARE BEST
NEVER CHANGE THE WAY
YOU POINTS ARE UNIQUE WITH NO BS AND NO BIAS
THANKS
Aapka chanel top par hoga ek din.. keep it up god always bless you
I support this as this leads to low prices...
Tata-Mahindra needs to collab.
Tata's Design, Innovation, Strength.
Mahindra's Engine, Technology, Strength.
But It would end up with a product with the QC and AS&S of Tata and Engineering design flaws of Mahindra 🤣🤣. Let them fix their house in order first.
Most underrated automobile channel 🔥🔥
Amazing Video.....❤❤❤
Bro your content is really awesome.. I started watching your videos since you appeared in my youtube feeds.
I expect you to make review videos of cars based on logic you always considered while making videos for us.
Here we face a lot more confusion while selecting cars. Other creators actually don't help us in decision making... Instead making us more confused
Excellent work! Very insightful topic.
Biturbo this was a very helpful video. Much thanks
Very well presented bro… you have spoken my mind… this is the reason I have started to hate Toyota and have decided not to ever buy their car…. Toyota and Honda are investing in developed markets but they don’t want to invest in India…
Thanks for the English subtitles!
Totally agree and brand like Toyota must do something about this because we want to buy a Toyota design international product not other brands products from their showrooms and these copy things run only for 1-2 year than people start buying other brands
Bhai kya content he apka. Maza aa gaya 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
TATA,MAHINDRA AND HONDA THE REAL LEGENDS IN INDIA🔥
Tata and maruti are best
Nice Research keep it up bro
best channel to analysis car market no bakwas sidhi baat
You explained it very well brother, I bought car in March 24.. I wish I could have found you earlier, to get advice to buy best car in my range
Kiger very reliable And good car ❤
Beautiful video buddy!
Personally I would not rank them as its the brands prerogative, if it doesn't suit the customer then the models (and this strategy) will fail
apki ek ek video mai wait kartha ho kyuki ur the best in knowledge....
Just imagine collaboration of Tata and Mahindra.
You always have different topic for us and video was worth of spending time for knowledge
Well said and greatly explained sir
As usual very informative videos...
Please make a video in the impact of new car makers coming to India like the EVR motors from Israel and the Vinfast from Vietnam.
Another video would be to make the future of hybrid cars, as you already made the video on the future of electric car.
Keep updating us on these topics...
Thank you for making such informative videos. I need your help in making decisions like, which dash cam is best (front & rear both)? I also want to know if the mileage of CNG cars is low on petrol if compared to only petrol cars.
Unique topic and amazing representation 🎉
I compared glanza and Baleno in cardekho yesterday. Both cars are similar. Same design, same engine, same dimensions, same build quality. Why are they doing this?
To survive in India and its high tax regime. They don't want to die like ford, chevy, fiat. They're hoping one day Indian govt will have a change of heart and rethink its policy.
@@jimmylives yes you are right. We are paying high taxes on everything.
Please explain more about the difference between the engines prices and specs...do these cars share the same engine?
Nice video ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for knowledge brother ❤
