Eat before you take Zinc, and start on a smaller dosage, 15mg and work it up. Never exceed 25 at once. You can get the remaining from your healthy diet.
Thanks for another great informative video Dr, Berg! I have actually been taking zinc supplements since I was in my 20's, (I'm now in my 60's) and I'm glad I did, when I was a kid I sometimes got mouth ulcers, never had any again since I started taking zinc.
Doctor rutherford: "Copper deficiency is commonly due to taking too much zinc" ( Creates more of a substance called Metallothionein). From a youtube video called copper neuropathy. The recommended amount was 15 miligrams, reduced to 11 because it affects hdl cholesterol and copper absorption
You need following to absorb Zinc into the tissues at a cellular level :: 1. Active B6 - P5P 2. Vit B12 3. Magnesium 4. Copper ! (intracellular Copper else you'd develop Zinc intolerance) 5. Vit C 6. Bioflavonoids such as Quercetin / Rutin / PAC's 7. Certain aminos such as Taurine, lysine, argenine, methionine, BCAA etc that are also indirectly involved in Zinc finger protein synthesis. Zinc synergies well with certain Amino acids such as Taurine, Methionine, Lysine, Argenine. Hence, Zinc is better consumed with B vitamins & aminos or still better a protein source. Most natural dietry sources of zinc also have Copper. If you are deficient in copper , you'd totally mess up your Iron metabolism. You must have Zinc & copper at seperate times and strive to maintain a 7.5 : 1 ratio. Imbalance in Zinc, copper ratio will create multiple health issues. The Cu-Zn SOD is not activated & recycled effectively if you are running low on copper. If you want Zinc, copper, aminos, B vitamins & all Zinc synergistic cofactors try carnivore diet esp offals ...or seafood ! All those videos advertising Zinc in nuts & Seeds are no good due to high presence of phytates in them which can bind Zinc at absorption site.
Thanks, Dr Berg, for the vids and content. At 70 I'm now 184lbs down from 208lbs. Blood pressure is down to 117/57 from 134/69. My last physical/bloodwork was terrific. My primary care doctor stopped the high blood pressure meds and statin drug.

Thank you Dr. Berg! I must try zinc. Every Autumn I seem to get a lingering cold and all the symptoms. I blame long covid but I guess I have to keep trying these helpful and hopeful ideas!
I started taking zinc daily and I started to lose belly fat... no matter what I did except 4 hours of sauna a day with starving myself and working out, I could not lose belly weight unless I did all that every day. Now I don't need to starve myself and do 4 hours of sauna a day. I can eat now. Because it was so easy for me gain especially on my belly and hard to lose, I went deeper and deeper into disordered eating, over exercise, etc. I don't have insulin resistance and when I ate, I ate keto and I intermittent fast, but since i have an ED, I was in a fasting state most of the time. I really had to do all that. Turns out, all I needed was zinc. Blood tests did not show anything special except a bit higher estrogen levels, a bit lower thyroid levels, but Dr's weren't concerned. But I knew i was out of balance. It could be cortisol and just needing to optimize my hormones in general. Then people tell me it's just about calories in and out, it's very frustrating. only people who live with me and saw how I gained weight and how I worked so hard to be thin understand and believed me. I could gain 10 klg in 10 days for no reason. Half of it was water, and felt so uncomfortable. So learning about hormones and zinc has saved me, maybe saved my life.
Brilliant show yet again Dr Berg! Thank you, I was always told especially as we age the vital importance of the 'trace elements' on the healing process, copper, magnesium, potassium and as you've mentioned zinc, fused together with some good old fashioned vitamin D from the sunshine 👌

Dr. Berg Thank you so much for helping us understand the how’s and why’s of vitamin deficiencies! It helps so much to know why our bodies may be having a hard time…mostly because of vitamin deficiencies. Then to recommend what to eat and what supplements we may need, that is a huge step in getting healthier.
Arsenic will affect your zinc level and also cause Vit B1 (thiamine) deficiency. High arsenic sources are rice, portobellos (cremini) mushrooms, and chicken products.
Healthcare professional over here who works night shift and eats like a lizard: people, please listen to professionals like this guy and always pay attention to your Vit D, Zinc and copper (better if taken together) magnesium, and Potassium levels as some of the symptoms you may be feeling may just go away once you replenish them. Our diet and modern food has gotten really bad at GMO. I know mine did with vitamin D and Zinc because i was severely low on both.
I have been taking a zinc supplement, 15 mg, about five years in addition to a healthy diet. There is a small amount of cooper in this supplement. There is a cooper zinc balance. If someone took 50mg of zinc a day with no cooper in their diet it could create problems.
I suggest 10 mg zinc bisglycinate chelate. However, zinc and copper work together. So, it’s always good to take copper when you’re taking zinc to avoid a copper deficiency. You could also take all of the trace minerals together with zinc.
Thank you so much Dr berg...we are now being aware of knowing our own bodies deficiencies and can't tell you how much YOU made a difference.!! Living a healthy life now..THANK YOU🙏💞
I used to get a cold and/or the flu at least once a year. Sometimes the flu twice a year. In an effort to gain relief from severe muscle cramps I looked into magnesium deficiency. Not truly believing what I was reading, I found a magnesium, calcium, and zinc concoction for cheap and decided to give it a try. Within two weeks, the cramps eased up dramatically, and most importantly, my cluster headaches went away. I later learned that magnesium and zinc are calming metals and decided to separate the three and only take the magnesium and zinc. Then, the covid scare took place about a year later, after which I noticed I hadn't come down with a cold or flu. Going on four years now, and I haven't had a cold or the flu. I credit the daily zinc capsule for that. Should you decide to try adding zinc to your diet don't go in with the attitude of "if a little is good, a whole lot must be better." You can quickly give yourself metal fume fever by taking too much zinc at once. You will feel as though you've suddenly gotten the flu, but with a twist. In that case have some dairy. A glass of milk, or ice cream will get you right as rain in short order.

Dont take more than 10 miligrams of zinc supplement "We present 3 cases of zinc-induced copper deficiency in which the diagnosis first was suggested on the basis of bone marrow examination. The first patient was a 47-year-old man with a debilitating peripheral neuropathy that had progressed during the previous 18 months, mild anemia, and severe neutropenia. The second was a 21-year-old man receiving zinc supplementation for acrodermatitis enteropathica in whom moderate normocytic anemia and neutropenia developed. The third patient was a 42-year-old man with anemia, severe neutropenia, and a peripheral neuropathy that had progressed during 8 months. The bone marrow findings in all cases suggested copper deficiency, which was confirmed by further laboratory testing and determined to be due to zinc excess." ---university of minnesota experts. umn. edu/en/publications/zinc-induced-copper-deficiency-a-report-of-three-cases-initially- (This is not the only people with copper deficiency in the world, just 3 examples)

Can you do a video where you discuss the different forms of zinc (zinc gluconate, zinc bisglycinate, zinc citrate, zinc aspartate, zinc oxide, zinc orotate, zinc picolinate, zinc L-carnosine, zinc monomethionine (Optizinc), etc.?
I just realized I’ve been watching you for 12 years now. I must be one of your first followers!!!!

When I take Zinc tablets I become nauseous and even throw up. I didn't realize Zinc was such an important mineral for good health and a sleep aid! Thank you for letting us know some of the foods provide Zinc.
You do not want to take Zinc tablets on an empty stomach. Personally, I take a liquid, easily absorbable form
Eat before you take Zinc, and start on a smaller dosage, 15mg and work it up. Never exceed 25 at once. You can get the remaining from your healthy diet.
Good to learn more about this. Going to try to incorporate more shellfish into my diet. Thanks Dr. Berg.
Very good. Enjoy!
Thanks for another great informative video Dr, Berg! I have actually been taking zinc supplements since I was in my 20's, (I'm now in my 60's) and I'm glad I did, when I was a kid I sometimes got mouth ulcers, never had any again since I started taking zinc.
Now that you mention that, neither have I. They were common all through my childhood and teen years.
Awesome!
Wonderful!
Are you referring to canker sores?
Doctor rutherford: "Copper deficiency is commonly due to taking too much zinc"
( Creates more of a substance called
Metallothionein).
From a youtube video called copper neuropathy. The recommended amount was 15 miligrams, reduced to 11 because it affects hdl cholesterol and copper absorption
You need following to absorb Zinc into the tissues at a cellular level ::
1. Active B6 - P5P
2. Vit B12
3. Magnesium
4. Copper ! (intracellular Copper else you'd develop Zinc intolerance)
5. Vit C
6. Bioflavonoids such as Quercetin / Rutin / PAC's
All those videos advertising Zinc in nuts & Seeds are no good due to high presence of phytates in them which can bind Zinc at absorption site.
an how do you no this.
TY Dr. Berg love your great info. Sharing your videos with family. They love you too😊
Glad you enjoy them! Thanks for watching!

Zinc plays important role to prevent pancreatic cancer !!!
"Anemia and neutropenia developed in a man who took pharmacologic doses of supplemental zinc. Laboratory investigation showed high zinc level, copper deficiency, low ceruloplasmin level, and ringed sideroblasts. All resolved after withdrawal of zinc. Self-administered zinc appears to have caused severe copper deficiency, with secondary anemia and neutropenia. Physicians should be aware of this deleterious and completely reversible effect of megadose mineral therapy. Zinc ingestion or exposure should be considered in the differential diagnosis of unexplained anemia, leukopenia, or sideroblastic anemia."----American Journal of Hematology

Vegan foods rich in zinc include fortified cereals (cereals that have added minerals and nutrients), legumes (such as chickpeas), tofu, nuts, seeds, and whole grains. As a side note, a lot of vegan foods that are high in zinc are also good sources of calcium.

Thank you so much for helping us understand the how’s and why’s of vitamin deficiencies!
QUESTION….can you do a video on benefits and drawbacks of cooking with an iron pan?
Hello. Thanks for the video suggestion.
What is the best zinc supplement to better absorb in the body?
Picolinate
Can you tell me what supplement you are taking. Brand? Ty
Another great health information video from Dr B! 🙌🏾 Thank you 🤗
What form of zinc and amount is the best?
I suggest 10 mg zinc bisglycinate chelate. However, zinc and copper work together. So, it’s always good to take copper when you’re taking zinc to avoid a copper deficiency. You could also take all of the trace minerals together with zinc.
@@Drberg thank you
The trace minerals has iodine ,is it ok to take when on synthroid?
Thank you so much Dr berg...we are now being aware of knowing our own bodies deficiencies and can't tell you how much YOU made a difference.!! Living a healthy life now..THANK YOU🙏💞
Deficiency of zinc will cause you to loose your sense of taste and smell! Which many people experienced after 2020 on a grand scale
Just 15 miligrams of zinc supplement and once a week 30 gave me panic attacks and anhedonia. Worse choice i ever made
@stephenkling9976 seeing as how ZnD is a common denominator in nearly all mood disorders, I find that difficult to believe.

"We present 3 cases of zinc-induced copper deficiency in which the diagnosis first was suggested on the basis of bone marrow examination. The bone marrow findings in all cases suggested copper deficiency, which was confirmed by further laboratory testing and determined to be due to zinc excess."
