    Ridley seems to fall under the category of a comic book super villain. In comic books, the bad guy always comes back. Always.

      What about Bowser, and Ganon, and Dr. Eggman, and Dr. Wily

    • @SorenDaein
      @SorenDaein 9 років тому +7

      Bowser, Eggman, and Wily never actually die. As for Ganondorf, he's the "incarnation of hatred" that Demise cursed Link and Zelda with at the end of Skyward Sword. Ridley kept coming back even though Samus obliterated him multiple times.

    • @mr.ledger
      @mr.ledger 9 років тому +3

      Heath Wilson One of the reasons that Ridley keeps coming back is that he clones himself so that the lazy arse of the original doesn't have to do all the dirty work. Apparently the Ridley in the first Metroid game/Metroid Zero Mission was a clone, and the original was killed in Super Metroid. In later games (chronologically) the rest of the Ridleys Samus fights (Like in the unspoken game) were clones, whose DNA was cultivated from the remains of the original from Super Metroid.

      Geonosian Warrior Right? I played it last year for the first time too. I got a few games to play for the snes because I wasn't going to have internet for some time, and at first this game for some reason got forgotten, but last christmas.. Man I got addicted to it, I even did 2 playthroughs right after the other one.

      It's impressive how such an old game feels so fresh. It's probably my 3rd favourite game this year (behind Fire Emblem Awakening and Pokemon X)

Not to mention I was born in the 16 bit era so I love super Mario world and a link to the past to death so why not start with metroid here !

    One of the best games ever made, period. There is nothing overrated in liking a master piece. This game set a standart for future games including castlevania. The music, the graphics the visual effects were just amazing and no other video game at the time could topple that. I remember the heat waves from the extreme heated areas, the particles in the lava, the rain, the thunder and winds like wow... this game had a full presentation and what makes it even better is that each stage feels different and has an atmosphere of its own.

    • @WellAlwaysBeFriends
      @WellAlwaysBeFriends 7 років тому +3

      I agree. As a kid I never beat the 1st one on my own but I still liked it. But it had TONS of problems and it was difficult for the wrong reasons. When I first played Super Metroid I spent HOURS exploring until I 100% completed it because it is still that damn good of a game. The graphics and sound are amazing and the sense of exploration brings an even amount of challenge and reward. Its a game that really gives players freedom and rewards them for discovering everything. And the brief but awesome story was told through its gameplay which was revolutionary at the time. It never really slows either. People do give this game crap for being overhyped and while some games do deserve that, this game really doesn't because it improves on its own formula and perfectly adds more new elements, while staying true to what made it successful. I still go back and play it on occasion. When you can revisit a game years later and still enjoy every minute of it it really does become a masterpiece.

      I started playing Super Metroid a few months ago. And boy, let's just say that my Playstation 4 has been collecting dust hahah.

    • @ezrawyvern6795

      This is one of the games that in some areas feels like a movie, but remembers and knows that it isn't a movie but a video game. Something that some modern video games can't get right.

    Coming here almost EXACTLY 10 YEARS of this upload (by sheer coincidence!) and had just beaten this as my first ever Metroid game, I can definitely see why people hold this game to such high regard. Pretty engaging gameplay, beautiful visuals for a SNES game, upgrades and collectables are satisfying to build up to make Samus powerful among other things. My only real complaints would be some clunky controls like with wall/space jumps, iffy navigation, lack of fast travel, and Ridley pretty much kicking my butt until I could brute force him (thank you switch online version). Nice to finally get around to playing this classic.

      M-Dread was my first Metroid experience.
      People were excited for it BECAUSE of Super and Fusion, but…. I hesitate to play Super Metroid bexause Dread spoiled me. I fear the control just won’t feel as good. No counter, slide, etc etc Nearing the end of my 3rd Dread playthrough 😅)

    • @esmooth919
      @esmooth919 7 місяців тому

      I was already used to the controls of Super Metroid, because the gravity reminded me of the original NES game. I agree that the wall jump is clunky, but once learned, it's like riding a bike. The rest of the game has always felt good to me, though, even after playing Zero Mission and Dread.

    I recently played through Super Metroid for the first time. Took me 14 hours and I found 85% of the items. I think it's definitely the best game of its kind (better than any of the Metroidvanias) but if I have one criticism it's that the bosses have zero challenge. Even the trickier ones gush out health and ammo making them a push over even for a first time player. This issue takes some serious shine off the game.

      On my first playthrough Crocomire took me ages to figure out and Ridley 2nd fight was fucking impossible for me. They're all really easy now that I've played the game a lot but for first timers they can still be challenging imo. Then again I was playing on a phone emulator touchscreen so maybe it had something to do with that.

    Never understood how anyone can comfortably play this game. I played it and beat it and while it was fun, it was even more frustrating. Not that the game was hard. It was just so damn difficult to know where to go. The beginning of the game and Brinstar aren't so bad but when I got to Norfair, the game slowed down considerably and I had to resort to going to a guide most of the time. My completion time was like 5 hours! I don't want to make anyone mad, that's just my opinion.

      @nicksmi56 10 років тому +3

      I would go with the Primes if I were you. I got bored/frustrated with Super Metroid too, but the Primes totally made me a fan. The map is much more detailed and if you want, there's a hint system that kicks in when you get lost that tells you where to go (I always turn it off though. The Metroid Prime series for me is like the world's greatest scavenger hunt. 100% items and scans for the freaking win! :D)

    • @nicksmi56
      @nicksmi56 10 років тому

      ***** By more detailed I mean 3D map with elevation and color coded doors and such. If you read the rest of my comment, you'd know that getting lost is not an issue for me (You can't 100% Prime on your first play through without getting lost a bit). It's just that Prime doesn't rely on as much cheap stuff like stuff hidden in walls or secret passages that you'd never even think to look at unless you had a guide or tricks it doesn't teach you how to do. Plus it's simply more immersive IMO

    To do the horizontal shinespark simply
    1. Charge up the speed booster and store it
    2. Do a forward jump (like if you were doing a screwattack (screwattack))
    3. Press up on the d-pad
    4. Quickly press whichever horizontal direction you want to go in and boom you did it!
    For the diagonal it is even simpler
    1. Copy step one from the other tutorial
    2. Hold the R-button (If changed, the button that points your gun diagonally up)
    3. Press the jump button and you did it.
    I love how many different ways you can sequence break this game or simply get through and area so much faster. I watch speed runs of Super Metroid and try to replicate what they do with I'd say a greater percentage of success after a while.

    When i was nine, I played the leyend of zelda ocarina of time, and me being a Mexican dude who doesn't speak english, i couldn't get the goron brazalet because i needed saria's song, and got stuck until i learned how to read english.
    Now, what does that have to do with super metroid? Well, 3 years ago i beat super metroid in 82 percent i remember it cause i took a photo, i was very proud, anyway in this game i didn't got stuck in any part of the game, the only thing preventing me to beat the game is it's diffuculty and the easy to understand obstacles, that, what I call good game design! A game where a 6 year old kid, who can't read in english, can easily understand what to do.
    I think this is worth mention, since this review didn't touched that part of the game

    • @Lh0000

    • @Lh0000
      @Lh0000 9 років тому +1

      Maybe it's just me but I think they should at least give you some information to me the exploration is just padding just a way to make the game longer don't get me wrong I liked the game but i got lost so many times I kept looking and looking and looking until I just crack and look it up maybe I'm just not good at these exploration oriented games but in my opinion exploration games shouldn't be without linearity there is a certain amount of conveyance needed for me to understand and when nothing is told to me I always think to myself "well now what" the game expects you to know everything about what to do when there is no indication of what to do and that's not a good thing i got so bored with the exploration that it took me three days to beat this game the exploration just got tedious to me it took so long for me to figure out what to do I saw no point in even doing it
      I'd rate the game a 5.9/10 it's not bad but it's far from the masterpiece everyone claims it to be..

    • @superapm9620
      @superapm9620 7 років тому +1

      I already posted this on a thread that you were in but i'm posting it here so that you understand that your complaints are both baseless and false:
      "Seriously anyone who complains about a lack of conveyance has a garbage sense of observation and spacial awareness.
      Most common complaint is how walls have no indication that you can bomb them.
      Thing is though is that there ARE little indications that show you where a bomb-able walls are located. Most of those walls are textured differently and others have other methods of showing you this such as cracks or little gaps. Even when you can't go passed a certain wall because you lack the equipment to do so, it will have a block with a symbol that shows you what can get you pass that (Ball for hyper bomb, arrow for speed boost, spiral for screwattack, etc). Most importantly this helps in hinting you where to go. You go to an area that you can't go pass yet but find one of those aforementioned blocks with a symbol on it. So you leave and go somewhere else and find an item that looks like that same block you found, so you get curious and back track to that area and use that item on that spot and find that you can now go pass it. This applies to most of the game with items like the high jump boots or the gravity suit.
      Thing is that all these little indications are very subtle and if your observation and spacial awareness skill is lacking then you will find this game difficult. But if that's the case then that is your fault, not the games."

    Probably one of the best video-games ever created. Maybe it's my nostalgia-goggles, but I remember that game even about 15 years or so since I last played it. It was such a damn good atmosphere, as you got ever deeper into the planet, uncovered new things, got more and more powerful. One of the last Super NES Games I played before switching to PC for the rest of my life but I'll never forget this game

    I finished it a week ago. I played it in three sessions two or three months separating each. I really struggled to enjoy it at first and I really had a hard time to find a reason to play it but at the end I loved it. It was just like a glass of water when you have been in the desert for an eternity. The first few gulps are terrible and painful but when the water finds its way to your...belly (I wanted to say heart but it would be inaccurate) it is one of the best experiences ever. I am looking forward to replay it.
    Also, my completion rate was 75% which, I guess, is good for a total newbie in the Metroid series. Yes, it was my first Metroid to play ever.

    I have never played Metroid. I recently got this ridiculous fever for sidscrolling platformers. It started with Megaman X.i have been bingeing the x legacy collection for my fix but there are so many out there and personally I want to tackle the classics first. Castlvania, Metroid, and the original mega man are some that I have yet to sink into. As well as many modern ones I have seen on your channel. One that particularly stood out was Celeste. Anyways. Your channel is awsome I watch alot. Keep it up great stuff. Much appreciated.

    First off, great review! I've been playing this game for the past week, I gotta say that its the best in the franchise. One sort-of-cool thing I noticed is that when you kill an enemy while samus is full of health and ammo, nothing drops. I say its cool because of all the games I played, I never saw that happening, or either that I didn't notice. This game is definitely one I would complete again and try to beat it fast enough to see samus without her suit. Right now I want to beat it again, but sadly, I got other games to beat.
