So in this case, metroid hatch from eggs by a queen. We won't know that until next game so the ones you encounter in the first are likely clones made from the sample stolen by the pirates.
@@Gaia_BentosZX5 The manga doesn't mention it, but I believe that it's possible for Mother Brain to have furnished the metroid larvae that appear in Tourian. Considering she's a chozo supercomputer and that the chozo created the species, it's possible that there were some still hanging around in the labs.

I've played and beaten everyone but 2, Zero Mission, Other M, Prime Hunters, and Samus Returns (I'm not going out of my way to get a 3DS for just one game). But yeah, Metroid is awesome.

Unless it is an SR388 Metroid (which we know isn't) you need an energy based ice attack and a heavy powered projectile attack. Or just set 3 power bombs.

The Zebeth name might have been a mistranslation due to the "th" phenome in Japanese sounding like the English phenome "s". The Localizers might have assumed it was supposed to be Zebeth rather than Zebes due to this. It's the same mixup that caused Aerith of Final Fantasy VII to be originally known as Aeris. When such words using the "th" sound are romanized, they are often written with an "s" rather than "th".
Just like the Varia suit is likely the Barrier suit

"th" sounds at the end of a word are one of the hardest things to romanize with Japanese, but it's agreed upon that the best and closest thing to use would be ス "Su". And "Su" is also just used for words that end with an S also. So I think some poor translator had to just stare at ゼベス "Zebesu" and just flip a coin on weather it meant "Zebes" or "Zebeth" because he had no direction. Lmao.
Also this is funny because if your name is "Seth" your name becomes the silly sounding "Sesu" セス
That explains Aerith/Aeris.

Started watching Johnny when I was 11, now 21, and am well passed my retro video game phase, but I keep coming back, not even because I'm really interested in the game. Something about his delivery, or his attitude really makes me feel comfortable or at home. Keep em coming man.

Was 5yrs old when I first set eyes on Metroid(NES). I came home with my mother to find my brother & his friend from school playing this. At the time it had the most out of this world look of any game I'd seen thus far. Been in love with the series ever since.

If Samus crying is due to the game fastforward 300 years, it means there's a legitimate in-game time limit after which Samus cries in the ending. I wonder what is it!
According to the wiki it's 10 hours of regular game, and only 5 hours of suitless game for some reason.

It's not hard to do at all. People who complain about it are just lazy and don't want to use their brain while playing a game.
@@TheMissingLink2 The only thing that really makes it hard is the fact that this is the only game in the series with no rest stations anywhere. Meaning you're spending long *numerous* sessions grinding just to get back to safe levels (for both missiles and health). Earlier this year, out of general curiosity (and because I was bored) of what it's like to be a Let's Player, I decided to make some playthroughs of my own. One of the first ones I picked was Metroid 1. *And it beat my ass.* Sure, I eventually won, but it was painful. 🤣 The grinding sessions are infamous for a reason if you're not a master like Johnny.

Other comments have already explained the Zebes/Zebeth thing, but I just wanted to bring up the fact that a similar case of confusion in the translation lead to the Barrier Suit mistakenly being called the Varia Suit. But in that case the mistranslation actually stuck. Kind of a happy accident, I think. Varia is a much better and more unique name.
I like how Smaus in the manual is trying to use a controller when one of her amrs is a gun.
Your original Metroid videos are what inspired me to give the series a shot, to see you re review them makes me so happy
Your videos were one of the only positive outlets I had in my life, when I was a kid in 2012. Now, I'm about to turn 20 in two days, and you've consistently made each of my days better. I'm really thankful you're redoing a lotta the older series from back in the day because they truly deserve the vs treatment, but I also really respect you keeping your old content up to. The one thing that always bums me out is seeing creators privating their old content because well obviously like 10 year old videos aren't gonna meet the standard of your current ones, but those are your roots damnit and people should be proud of their evolution, not ashamed of it. That's my 2 cents anyway- but I friggin love you Johnny, been watching since 2016 and you're a massive inspiration to me and my personal nomination for pope of the Sonic community

Hey Johnny, you mentioned that you love watching Metroid speedruns. Have you had any exposure to Metroid randomizers? Fusion actually got a randomizer very recently and it's a blast!
I've been meaning to try the LTTP/Super Metroid Rando for some time now, I'm just terribly busy.
@@SomecallmeJohnny It's kind of crazy what they've managed to create with the LTTP/SM randomizer by now. I've been seeing six-player multiplayer runs with auto-updating trackers and all kinds of nifty extras. It's incredible what they're doing with that stuff.
I've recently been watching some Prime Multiworld Randomisers and the concept boggles my mind. Especially the one showcased on the GDQ channel recently that involves both Prime 1 AND Prime 2.
I have enough trouble with a simple ALttP randomiser
I think it would be neat if we got a remake of Metroid Zero Mission in the Retro Engine or as it’s now known as the Star Engine.
You enjoying the Metroid series in isolation is perfectly in line with how the Metroid games themselves are about isolation. Funny how that works.

17:25 Dang, I didn't even know using the F-Bomb for the password works in the Metroid game. That is a lot like the Metal Gear NES Passwords that used the F-Bomb takes you straight to Big Boss.
While I was never really big into the Metroid series until Samus Returns, I was really looking forward to this revisit and the eventual review of Metroid Dread. Have fun, Johnny.

I beat Ori and the Blind Forest at the same time Dread got announced, so I finally dove into the Metroidvania genre. Beat Zero Mission, I've started Metroid II on GB, and I started Tails' Adventure on Game Gear.

After years of hearing about the development story of the original Metroid and Kid Icarus, I always figured Metroid would have been the much better game. Then I actually played the original games, and I think Kid Icarus actually turned out better. Metroid without maps or a proper way to heal is a real drag, and the way the ice beam was handled hurts. It really came into its own on the SNES, while Kid Icarus just got forgotten until it became the best Star Fox game 25 years later.
