What the heck, I was JUST thinking of getting into the Metroid series last night and here you are with a review, it’s definitely a sign
I’ve been waiting for Johnny to re-do this series for YEARS!
Needless to say I’m very pleased this was in my feed! Hope you enjoy Dread as much as the rest of do!
While I was never really big into the Metroid series until Samus Returns, I was really looking forward to this revisit and the eventual review of Metroid Dread. Have fun, Johnny.
Your original Metroid videos are what inspired me to give the series a shot, to see you re review them makes me so happy
YESSSSSSSSS I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE ALL THE IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS OF MY FAVORITE FRANCHISE
Your original SGB Metroid videos were some of your first videos I watched and actually convinced me to give Metroid a try and become a fan of the series so its awesome to see you redoing them. Can't wait for Dread, I hope you enjoy it when it comes out Johnny!
Other comments have already explained the Zebes/Zebeth thing, but I just wanted to bring up the fact that a similar case of confusion in the translation lead to the Barrier Suit mistakenly being called the Varia Suit. But in that case the mistranslation actually stuck. Kind of a happy accident, I think. Varia is a much better and more unique name.
Kraid is incredibly easy to beat by rolling into the ball, staying close to him, and spamming bombs.
Great start to another marathon, John! Lookin' forward to seeing both new and updated thoughts on Metroid!
The "Mother Brain? Fuckin Toasst" password seems like a damn creepypasta. That's some serious foresight on Nintendo's part as I'm pretty sure this is way before video game creepypastas were a thing, let alone popular
20:56 hold onto this everybody, we’re gonna need this time stamp in about a year
For?

@@Gaia_BentosZX5 okay..
@@Gaia_BentosZX5 So big that almost 1.5 years later, nothing has come of it.
Ah, Metroid. Been wanting to get into this series a little more since dread is coming out soon. Maybe this marathon will help push me in the right direction to start.
18:05 Woah, Thats some deep knowledge I never had a clue about
YEEEEAAH! I just started getting into Metroid and Metroidvanias in general, so I can't wait for this!
I beat Ori and the Blind Forest at the same time Dread got announced, so I finally dove into the Metroidvania genre. Beat Zero Mission, I've started Metroid II on GB, and I started Tails' Adventure on Game Gear.
Oh right, I have Tails' Adventure.
@@smashmaster521 Like Metroid 1, the first 10 minutes SUCK. But after that it's pretty darn good. =)
@@wingbeltcreations5455 I know. I just forgot I have it on my standard 3DS. I've been too busy playing my Switch to make sure it doesn't die from being docked.
I'm so happy you're doing a Metroid re-review series. As a Metroid fan I loathe how little attention the series gets as a whole when I feel like it has so much potential that's getting slept on. I appreciated your Storyboard concepts from a little while ago too, anything to put that galactic bounty hunter on the map!
I’m so glad I decided to play all the 2D games before Dread. I hope Dread gives the franchise the praise it deserves.
I certainly hope so given how popular metroidvania type games are now.
@@GenerationZ313 And now?
@@philithegamer8265 it's becoming increasingly likely that are RGT85 may have to end up playing Balan Wonderworld after all
Something about the closing words of these videos always makes me feel so warm inside
I’m always happy to see another Johnny Vs! Especially if it involves Metroid!
The famicom noises actually remind me of baby alligators. Baby Gators make that pew pew laser sound.
Hey Johnny, you mentioned that you love watching Metroid speedruns. Have you had any exposure to Metroid randomizers? Fusion actually got a randomizer very recently and it's a blast!
I've been meaning to try the LTTP/Super Metroid Rando for some time now, I'm just terribly busy.
@@SomecallmeJohnny It's kind of crazy what they've managed to create with the LTTP/SM randomizer by now. I've been seeing six-player multiplayer runs with auto-updating trackers and all kinds of nifty extras. It's incredible what they're doing with that stuff.
I've recently been watching some Prime Multiworld Randomisers and the concept boggles my mind. Especially the one showcased on the GDQ channel recently that involves both Prime 1 AND Prime 2.
I have enough trouble with a simple ALttP randomiser
The original SGB review was how I was introduced to this channel all the way back in 2010, great to see you go back to it & give it a VS review.
If it wasn't for my cousin, I probably wouldn't even know that this game exists, but I do, and I love it. But I must confess, when I was a kid, this game used to scare the _shit_ out of me! Especially Tourian!
Watching my cousin get devoured by a Metroid was quite frightening at the tender age of 4!
@Fax bro can you please cut this shit out

Me: Alright, I only have a few more hours to finish this work assignment.
Johnny: *Uploads*
Me: Yeah, I've got time.
I think it would be neat if we got a remake of Metroid Zero Mission in the Retro Engine or as it’s now known as the Star Engine.
Playing Metroid for 314 years crashes Metroid
Hey Johnny, I've been watching a lot of your vids recently and just wanted to say that you are looking fantastic lately! Your weight loss is really starting to show and I am happy for you :D
13:20 It's probably called the screw attack because you spin around like an electric screwdriver, with extra emphasis on the "electric" part with the energy field.
It’s been a year, what was 20:50 referring too?
When Johnny was in the password screen I misread it for some reason. Instead of "Will Fuckme Work Here" I read it as "Will Work, Fuckme Here."
Reminds me of the old "Don't Dead, Open Inside"
After years of hearing about the development story of the original Metroid and Kid Icarus, I always figured Metroid would have been the much better game. Then I actually played the original games, and I think Kid Icarus actually turned out better. Metroid without maps or a proper way to heal is a real drag, and the way the ice beam was handled hurts. It really came into its own on the SNES, while Kid Icarus just got forgotten until it became the best Star Fox game 25 years later.
LOL!!! Yep.
The bit about the password system was so damn cool. Nice video!
I'm never going to stop saying metroidvania because if it feels wrong to start calling them something else now.
2:49 You and Trav guy knew each other? Nice, I love both yours and his content
I audibly gasped in excitement, nice Johnny.
You enjoying the Metroid series in isolation is perfectly in line with how the Metroid games themselves are about isolation. Funny how that works.
