So I did the math. At 2:01:23 Andy decides not to check the big chest. At 2:04:11, he discovered the boots were necessary. It then took until 3:01:35 to find the boots. So if it would have taken 30 seconds to get the boots the first time, he would have saved 57 minutes and 54 seconds to get a new finish time of 2 hours, 18 minutes, and 28 seconds.
@hongmeiling8219 As a randomizer player I can safely say it's too true. I've had this exact thing happen in link to the past, ff4, and kh2 lol. That last item is always in a place you either thought you got everything or just don't want to get

2:01:06 - Andy talks about how messing up movement in Super Metroid can make you look like the "biggest idiot". In 40 seconds time, everyone will be giving him a round of applause. No-one knows that, in those 40 seconds, he's made a decision which will turn out to have cost them almost an hour by the end of the run. Man, I feel sorry for him; that was actually the right call when going for an out-and-out PB/WR attempt (of _course_ you pick the strategy that saves a few frames and hope RNG goes your way, that's standard), but will wind up being one of the go-to examples of when taking a safer strategy at the cost of a few frames makes more sense in an exhibition setting like this. Still, this is a great run to watch, the boots saga made for a lot of tense entertainment, and I'm going to be following both of them on Twitch!
Having to 'waste' an hour looking for the boots was actually nice in showing off all the chest locations in ALTTP, so could be useful if any watcher decides to do the challenge themselves one day :)
I get 2 hours in and see Andy entering Ganons tower and there's an hour and ten minutes left on the run and I think "man something is about to go horribly wrong"
This entire run could've been a whole hour faster, but instead it turned into karmic schadenfreude of the highest caliber. He passed up those stupid boots literally _minutes_ before running into the one thing he needed them for.
It's not really accurate to say he should have just taken that one quick sideline to that one chest, because it could have just as easily not been in that chest and he could have lost time instead. It could have been in any of all of the chests he checked; you have to allow time for diversions to many of those.
Only a year and a half late to say it, but hey We can't blame Andy too much afterall, missing the boots let us kill the animals. Gotta save those frames!

He got the gauntlet, mushroom, and shovel fairly early. I guess it's a speed thing, but he could've checked the witches house, Zora's domain, and the flute spot.
Witch hut and flute spot are quite out-of-the-way locations, both with just one item. Most rando players delay them until they are sure there has to be something (because they ran out of options). Flute spot can usually be combined with Ol' Stumpy and Cave 45 (the cave to the lower left of entrance to Ol' Stumpy), which makes it seen more regularly. However, due to Andy not finding mirror before near finish, it just wasn't worth it I guess. Witch's hut has the disadvantage that you can do a small glitch, where you can abuse the bat giving you half magic with your mushroom, which makes some runners only wanna do hut after magic bat. Zora's Domain, however, is a preference thing. Most rando players agree on not going there early due to it being so out of the way (even for four items, counting those in fairy fountain). The general consensus is that you should only go there if you're either a. out of options, or b. able to check more stuff on the way (e.g. by swimming to Hobo -> taking the warp point or by mirroring from catfish).
@@Milktube Then that decision was made very recently, because every rando-runner I've seen (Sakura/Andy/ the commentating guys of the speed tournaments) still refers to it as that.
Interesting thing, if there were a Super Metroid/Metroid Fusion combo, by not saving the animals at the end of Super Metroid, you doom yourself in Fusion.
I would really love to see this randomizer with 100% of the items for both games at a GDQ. Seems like would be long and insane, but the good type of good and insane run.
