My sister used to go out with her boyfriend I used to play her records uninvited while she was gone . I loved this . Eyvonne fair it should of been me. And Mary Hopkins those were the days . She was a massive roller fan.
@@Alexandercuk thanks for that I never knew that. That's why it was very very familiar. I am only 57 and BCR was coming to an end when I was hearing their music in my house. 6 sisters 6 brothers all older than me. But I remember their sound. And I believe they made a mistake by refusing this song.
@Noneyabusinessok I'm only 57 too - good age to be. I had it morning noon and night from my older sister so couldn't forget despite my young age 😊@@Noneyabusinessok
I loved that song it always reminds me of my first boyfriend David we got engaged when i 17 in 1975 and sadly our relationship ended in 1976 i was 18 i met him in 1974 i was 16 great memories of my first love they say you never forget your first love its true you dont
Requiem by Slik would've been a suitable soundtrack to the sad breakup as well. You're right tho', you never forget your first love, especially if it falls apart.
I remember seeing Slik perform at the Apollo disco in Glasgow in 1976, before they got famous. I worked as a steward downstairs in the concert hall and one of the "perks" was free entry to the disco, if we were still "in uniform"; I suspect it was effectively boosting the number of stewards in the disco for no additional cost.
I remember it well, we used to go between Clouds, the Savoy and the White Elephant or else seeing if there were any tickets for whoever was playing in the Apollo. Tiffany’s was to far up to trot in high heels fro Dundas Street Bus Station. I remember watching Slik and being in love with Midge. I definitely didn’t get a lumbur in Clouds if Slik were playing. That would have detracted me from watching that gorgeous guy with the smile. Gods, there are some names from the past.
SLIK also appeared in a movie called Never Too Young to Rock, along with Mud, Rubetes, and the Glitter Band, in 1975.They still had long hair before adopting the USA baseball look.
There are at least hundreds of thousands if not millions of recorded songs. I love it when I discover songs that test my memory - and the joyment I feel when hearing them again.
That's because it was written by Phil Coulter who also wrote the Bay City Rollers hits. Same sound. He also wrote Puppet on a String for Sandy Shaw which she performed on Eurovision.
Back in the 70s it always intrigued me how Slik sounded exactly like the Bay City Rollers and Kenny. But then I learned later it was the same session musicians and the same producers, Bill Martin and Phil Coulter. However unlike the rest of them, Midge Ure went on to develop his own sound and very successful career.
who would think one day midge would be famous for singing with ultravox and writing one of the biggest selling singles of all time and being one of the brains behind live aid with bob geldof
It was actually Midge's idea who phoned Bob Geldorf saying we need to do something about this tragedy, Geldorf didn't really like the Song, but said it would have to do,but he took MOST of the CREDIT for Band Aid.
I remember hearing this on radio 1 in 76 ,l thought it was a bit baycity rollerish and had a bit of a 1950s sound as well ,most pop bands at that time had longish hair but Midge Ure looked so cool,American 1950s .Great pop song ,great singer and not forgetting that new Romantic classic Viena.
OMFG... I was 11 when I listened to that song featuring a very young Mr. Ure. But if you listen closely, you can already hear paralells to his U-Vox-singing style in the verses. At least thats my impression. :-D Great!!
This was the opening hit played on Retro Charts Radio this morning. RCR is playing every UK Top 40 Hit (1952-1999) on elimination random from 8am to 11pm every day :)
I know this song is just a Bay City Rollers style knock-off and is not considered a masterpiece, but if you listen closely you can hear the underlying genius and the elements of this in Vienna...
Trivia question for you - and no cheating, I'll give the answer upon a response - What were the four other pop/rock acts with whom Midge had top 40 hits, between this and his solo career?
Midge looks like such a little kid here - fantastic. I loved this song
Loved this group especially Billy. I had their poster on my bedroom door. Oh happy days a young girls dreams.

Great song written by a great song writer from Northern Ireland. Phil Coulter, does also remind me if the BCR.
Yes the bcrollers
@@mickbrock2430 it does sound similar to me. And I think you get the same feeling.

I was up there one time. That disco you got a lift up to. Can’t remember what it was called(80’s).
Wonderful discovery! I didn't know Midge sang this song!
I still have this vinyl, plays just as well as it did when I was a kid. Followed Midge Ure ever since.
Sail on Kenny lad, you will be missed by all. Fantastic drummer.
A great song of my childhood! I have never forgotten it! 😊

Every second song this time is "stolen!"
Don't know why Midge doesn't include this in his live shows these days, I think its great 🙂
He should do
Brilliant song by silk outstanding tune
Eén van mijn eerste singeltjes. Jeugdsentiment.
Takes me back to being 15/16. This could easily have been sung by The Bay City Rollers.
lots of people seem to think that it was BCR!

Brilliant. This and Vienna by Ultravox are my faves of Midge.

Recall this awesome track about same time as December 63,I love to love--this group should've gone bigger, was this their only hit? ?
They followed it up with a similar type of song called Requiem.
@@learntospell Then Midge had a car crash, and was seriously injured.
No, they had another hit with Requiem.

Midge Ure!
Great artist, then and now😎😎
What a change for Midge Ure from this teeny bopper to the professionalism of UIltravox and beyond...
Found it finally!
I always thought this was the bay city rollers, it really sounds like them.
It was the same guy that wrote the songs for both Slik and The Bay Coty Rollers.
Sounds like Bay City Rollers.
Ребята словно на машине времени прилетели из будущего. Современно выглядят для 1976 года. 😄
