I remember seeing Slik perform at the Apollo disco in Glasgow in 1976, before they got famous. I worked as a steward downstairs in the concert hall and one of the "perks" was free entry to the disco, if we were still "in uniform"; I suspect it was effectively boosting the number of stewards in the disco for no additional cost.

I remember it well, we used to go between Clouds, the Savoy and the White Elephant or else seeing if there were any tickets for whoever was playing in the Apollo. Tiffany’s was to far up to trot in high heels fro Dundas Street Bus Station. I remember watching Slik and being in love with Midge. I definitely didn’t get a lumbur in Clouds if Slik were playing. That would have detracted me from watching that gorgeous guy with the smile.

Back in the 70s it always intrigued me how Slik sounded exactly like the Bay City Rollers and Kenny. But then I learned later it was the same session musicians and the same producers, Bill Martin and Phil Coulter. However unlike the rest of them, Midge Ure went on to develop his own sound and very successful career.
