  • "Magic" is a 1974 song by Scottish pop rock band Pilot, and was the first hit single for the group. It was written by band members David Paton and Billy Lyall for their debut album, From the Album of the Same Name.
Pilot were a Scottish rock group, formed in 1973 in Edinburgh by David Paton and Billy Lyall. They are best known for their songs "January", "Magic", "Just A Smile" and "Call Me Round".
Both Paton and Lyall had briefly been substitute members of the Bay City Rollers before that band's breakthrough. Joined by drummer Stuart Tosh, the band recorded several demos during 1972 and 1974. They were signed to a management contract with Nick Heath and Tim Heath, sons of British bandleader Ted Heath, and John Cavanagh. In due course they signed to a worldwide recording deal with EMI Records. After the recording of their debut album, From the Album of the Same Name, guitarist Ian Bairnson (who had played on the album as a session musician) joined the band permanently.
The 1974 single "Magic" from their first album, produced by Alan Parsons and written by Lyall and Paton, was a No. 11 UK and No. 5 US success. It sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc by the R.I.A.A. in August 1975.

Rolling Stones played in Buffalo, NY 6 times Led Zeppelin 2 times, Alice Cooper, Bob Seger, Aerosmith, The Who, The Clash, Doobie Brothers, the producers even got Allman Brothers & Lynyrd Skynyrd. It was cool almost every band opened saying HELLO BUFFALO. To bad they couldn't get David Cassidy. This was at Buffalo Bills Stadium 75,000 fans. I wonder if Im living in the past still listening to these songs. Im 58 & still have my IRISH Freckels on my face. I was born in 1970, but my father listened to a lot of music like this, so I grew up knowing the great popular music of the 60s, 70s, and 80s (The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Abba, Franck Pourcel, Fenati, Bee Gees, Chicago, Al Stewart, The Association, The Mamas & The Papas, Italian New Wave songs, and of course, Pilot and much more). David Kepesi Buffalo, NY in 70s early 80s had 10 years of concerts 4 every summer at Bills Stadium. Rolling Stones played here 6 times. Big Bummer Led Zeppelin cancelled 2 times 1977 & 1981 Aerosmith, Bob Seger, Bad Company, Alice Cooper, Allman Brothers & Lynyrd Skynyrd came to Buffalo. They even had Country singer LeAnn Rimes. The crowd loved it when Alice Cooper said HELLO BUFFALO. Hate to say this about the City I live in. Buffalo is jinxed never had Championship in sports, we still get 10 feet of snow every winter from Lake Erie. Bars are open till 4am. Buffalo has a lot of IRISH Familys here. Always WHITE CHRISTMAS IN BUFFALO

"Magic" is a 1974 song by Scottish pop rock band Pilot, and was the first hit single for the group. It was written by band members David Paton and Billy Lyall for their debut album, From the Album of the Same Name.According to Paton, the song is inspired by the sunrise on Blackford Hill in Edinburgh. In a 2012 interview with Hotdisc Television, Paton also stated that at the time, his wife said she'd "never seen a daybreak," which also inspired the song.
