    Mojang was actually quite accurate on the hay bales in the dungeon. Hay was often strewn on the floor, made it easier to clean out the prisoners filth.

      @gerythionargarys7848 3 роки тому +154

      Except for the fact that dungeons never existed underground in the medieval period. Dungeon comes from the word Donjon, which was the tallest tower of the castle.
      Later they became underground, but that's like 16th or 17th century type thing.
      As for hay, they had that in the halls and taverns too.

      @@gerythionargarys7848 I know, I also watch shadiversity. However, dungeon can in modern times be interpretted as a place to store prisoners, wether it be in some cellar, a tower, a stable or whatever. If someone needed to be locked up, and werent noble enough to get some furniture, if it was good enough for animals, it was good enough for the riff raff.

      It is basically the simplest good-looking portcullis you can make. It is literally double piston extenders on the top and bottom, with two Gravity Blocks on the bottom to push the thing up. Personally, I prefer the triple piston extender version, since that lets horses through, but I don't think horses were in the game when this book was published.

    Nice build, thanks for the vid!
    My explanation - hay bales are for beds. Not in Minecraft for sure, but IRL medieval jail beds probably would be made of straw or something, and straw would be refreshed every now and then (if you are in a nice jail). We don't have straw in Minecraft though, so here we go with wheat, for immersion. We don't know what kind of beds are in those cells (well we do know, but roleplaying and stuff).
    Arrow catapult is a great idea, if you want to organize something of a siege with other players or raid event, but don't want to rebuild all suroundings after TNT blasts.

    • @mikewhitaker2880
      @mikewhitaker2880 3 роки тому +12

      I agree, plus its a way of defending corners because of its spread. Maybe its not as effective as a wall of dispensers making an arrow storm, or a good tnt cannon, but it can shoot diagonal, which seems really powerful in a game where you can only face blocks in the 4 compass points. Actually ''good' castles back then were awful. Everyone who wasnt related to the ''king'' or commander had to sleep in a large room and had only one furnace to keep them all warm (which was about 30-40 people) And you were luck if you had a 3 brick thick wall all the way around your one *mayybe* two story ''castle''. At that there was likely some small animal pen (for wild horses or caught wild chickens) that would be near you, to stink up the entire place.. No hate just facts. The castles nowadays and on movies are super fancy and not at all what castles were back then (the actual times were they got the movie from)

    • @credinzel6996
      @credinzel6996 3 роки тому +112

      @@naomigwolfe8112 That isn't true either. Castle walls tend to be really thick. If they were as thick as three bricks, then a trebuche would'vd demolished it quite it easily. Plus it won't have any abilitiy to you know, be able to walk on different levels on the wall such as the top. Also castles tend to have very less people in fact for just how good they were. Typically around 20 to less men. Alao you do forget that they didn't live in the castle walls itself, but probably a structure build on the inside where it had normal wall thicknesses, and that stone is a good thermal conductor. I'm guessing it'll be just like most homes that used earth, and it kept cool in the summer, warm in winter if you were willing to light a fire inside one.

      @@FVMCRAFT i dont know about that, but as far as I know, a Kingdom is a country with a monarch as a government, a King or a regent Queen
      Kingdoms have different fiefdoms that is in fealty to their respective kingdoms
      For example, Japan in the 1500's
      It is a kingdom, each has clans, each clans has their own lords with their respective provinces
      They swear loyalty to their emperor/king
      In this case, their shogun
      In medieval Europe
      The kingdom of Britannia for example
      House of Grey, House of Arden, House of Beufort, House of Bruce and etc to name a few
      These houses are part of a kingdom
      They are called Fiefdoms

      Here's the thing, most of the nations in hre is really hard to find their name. But you can easily tell that they are like japan, but the landlords(landlord is not actually a correct word here, they are independent nations) are a bit more stronger. The number of nations in hre is a mystery, there are a lot of them. I cant give name due to that reason.
      (even when you search for each nations name, It'll be hard to find all of them. If you find a website that gives all of their names, I will be happy if you share it with me.)
      Well, the ones I'm talking about actually named as principalities.
      There are also free cities, a nation that only has one city.
      These nations are accepted as independent nations and most of them ruled with monarchy. The rest is about your perspective, to me a castle that is ruled by a king(If the ruler claims to be king) can be accepted as a kingdom.

    Hate to be that guy, but the elevation of the castle matters for two important reasons: Restrict access to the castle to a couple or hopefully one road that can then be heavily fortified, and being higher than the surrounding area. That includes mountains around you.
    Sure, you built the castle on raised earth, but you also built it at the foot of a mountain thats much taller than your castle. Meaning you'd have to make your walls higher than the mountain (a.k.a. ridiculous) or its just a massive weakness to the defenses if people dont have to engineer a way to get over your walls. They just gotta climb up then climb down, from an area that doesnt even have battlements or towers big enough to reach the enemy before they're already descending down on you.
    Either build it on top of a normal mountain that is the highest in its area, or build the castle on rasied earth in the middle of a flat biome like a plains, so that you're guaranteed to have the high ground. Otherwise your castle just has a glaring flaw
