    Imagine a world without the Ford Mustang! Thankfully we have the Ford Falcon to thank for the development of the 1964 Ford Mustang, and the rest is history. However, this Ford Falcon Futura is the result of a son who decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and create a track-ready monster … that he daily drives!

      Gitsum ~True, at least for anyone that knew about the heritage or ever had a buddy that had a Sprint. For me it was my big brother that knew a Sprint owner. My bother had his own thing going. A '56 Chevrolet with a 389cu out of a wrecked Pontiac GTO. I later went on to buy a stock 2-door post '56 Chev (with paper-route money at age 15 for $400 at a used lot in1968), yanked the 265cu out and dropped in a 327cu short block and spent a year (with big bro's help) boring it to 350cu, full-race cam, 11lb flywheel, high-rise Edelbrock manifold, dual 4brl Hollys and Hedman headers. 425hp on the dyno.
      And that was the car I stepped into on my 16th birthday after coming home from the driving test in my dad's '56 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight! It's a wonder I survived to 17. LOL

      I'm with you. I've owned a '63 Falcoonie Ranchero w/a 170ci straight 6, and a '64½ Mustang w/a '66 Hi Horse 289ci V8. The Mustang was fast, but it was a 1-trick pony (so's to speak); it was good for collecting tickets. I loved that Falcon; it could haul stuff, tow surprisingly heavy cars (if I could keep the front wheels on the asphalt) and get me to work at 27mpg. Regrettably, I sold it at 240,000 miles, during which time I put a head gasket in it in 45 minutes, along with 3 clutches and a 3-speed tranny. The Ford Fairlane and the Mercury Comet were Falcons with different body panels. Even the wiring diagrams/harnesses were the same. If I wanted a fast Falcon I borrowed my little brother's '63 260ci Ranchero; it weighed so little it was like being in a slingshot.

    I love father/son builds. My Dad had a 62 Chevy II back in the day and loved it so when he came across a 62 Chevy II with a 350 for sale, he jumped on it. It was a mess. Rotted floor boards, rotted trunk pan, fenders, one door. We replaced it all, working little by little. Grandma even helped stitch the new interior together with us. By the time the car was done it was beautiful... And it had a leak from the rear main seal... So we broke down the engine and did a light overhaul, new cam, port, polish, 5 angle valve grind, big beefy carb, new fuel lines and new gearing for the rear end. It's not a monster by any means, but it's clean, lobey, and roars down the street screaming old school style all the way. A great homage to an awesome time spent together. Next up is his 39 International pickup. That thing is beautiful, even with all the work it needs.

    My dad had a 1963 Falcon Ranchero. He dropped a 302 in it with of course a four speed. Painted it and put some thicker tires on it. It didn’t corner well but man it would scoot in a straight line. At first he left the original rear end that was for the in-line 6 but the first pull it exploded !! Lol so we had to get a 9” . Thanks for bringing back the memories.

    I had a '62 futura with the 170ci engine. I yanked that out and replaced it with the 200ci from a '66 mustang. The auto trans left too , exchanged with a three speed manual , w Hurst shifter. I put pop up pistons , milled the head ,cammed it and installed an Offy three one barrel carb system with progressive linkage . Painted the car bright yellow with black stripes on the sides and a black teardrop hood . This was in '72 and I drove the crap out of it. I couldn't keep u-joints in it because of the rake angle ( a70/ 14 fr and l 60/15s in the back . Loved that car.

The US line, the Canadian line, the South American line (look up "Argentinian Falcon, it's an eye opener) and the Australian Falcon. In Argentina the Falcon has a great history, it was both loved and hated basically for being the car that the army used to kidnap and ''dissapear'' people who didn't agree with the goverment from 1976 to 1984 (last argentine dictatorship), those were famous for being dark green.
    Also, the Falcon is considered the best ''performance car'' that Ford brought to Argentina on the 70's so it was so famous that people begun to modify them and use them to race, replacing the old little V8 coupes on the TC races ( carreras de Turismo Carretera).
    They were so important and so good, that since then, we still use the Falcon to race on the TC races against its competitors from that moment in Argentina ( Chevy Nova SS, Dodge GTX, and IKA Torino). Now a days these race cars are so modified that you can barely distinguish wich car is each model...
    I personally think is a fantastic car, the sound of the 3.6 L I6 engine ( that's the engine that the Sprint version used to offer here) at high RPMs is lovely, very similar to a 6 cyl. boxer engine.

    • @Toxic2T
      @Toxic2T 5 років тому +1

      The Falcon back then did some major justice. Those "kidnappings" were in reality JUSTICE. It was a very good car which served to combat subversion and terrorism. Great car, pretty much indestructible.
