  • The head of this kitchen aid stand mixer fell off the shaft. This appears to be a common problem for these machines. The factory fix for this would be to remove the cover and the internal gears and replace the planetary gear assembly BUT the easier fix is to use JB Weld.

    My wife and I bought a pro 600 model 20 years ago and this exact issue just happened. I gently hammer taped it back in place a few times but it fell back off several times when she was Christmas cookie baking. We can get a new one on sale for the holidays for about $300 before taxes at bed bath and beyond but imma try this fox to get a free more year out of this thing.

    Same problem occurred with our 2yr old 600.... Total design failure by Kitchen-aid engineering!! A simple retainer could have have prevented it from ever happening but I guess that would cost them a few more cents per unit in production so they opted out and leave customers on the hook!!

    Glad I found your video! Why do you have to drill through the shaft? Just so the excess glue can come out? I will definitely try this method. Looks relatively simple! I hope!

      Pays to listen more closely! You explain the holes are for the excess. So off I go to buy some JB Weld. Thanks for the video!

    Same issue, I purchased December 2005 (so 18 years old), we only use occasionally. Last year the planetary just fell off. Not thrilled with Kitchenaid. How has yours held up so far?
    I had re-assembled mine using Permatex sleeve retainer, unfortunately I didn't knock the shaft into the head quite far enough, so there is a small gap between the head and the body. Eventually I will pull it apart and re-assemble again.

    What are the drilled holes for?

    • @eekwiet
      @eekwiet  2 місяці тому

      To help with excess jb weld and help to secure the pieces. Not really necessary because of all the splines.
