Just did this and it worked perfectly! My mixer had been nearly unusable - we had to bang the lid to get it to start. I was about ready to donate it when I found this video. Bought the part from Mr mixer and had it fixed in under 20 minutes. Thank you!!!

Yep, that’s all I had to do as well. Seems to be a common problem that the speed control contact surfaces get dirty. Disassemble, spray slider contact points with contact cleaner and wipe.

Thank you so much! Found your video after difficult time reaching manufacturer. I typed in the symptoms and your video was the solution. Your service in shipping the part was really fast and efficient. Tonight I changed the part out in about fifteen minutes (following your excellent instructions) and now what might have been a much more expensive repair is complete. My machine is back in great working order. Definitely going to share your website and videos with all the folks I know who have kitchenaid mixers. Thanks again.

One cautionary note regarding the "no power" diagnosis and recommendation to replace the circuit board and speed control assembly, depending on the circumstances that led to that situation:
I just received a Professional 600 mixer from someone I don't know who didn't offer much background on its history or the time since it had been used (to be honest, I was told that it needed "a $150 belt replacement". Yeah...). I powered it up, then gave the speed control lever a few runs up and down from 0-10. Zero. Zip. Zilch.
As I started my online price shopping for the right Speed Control Board, it occurred to me to first try a simple solution already available from vintage audio equipment - contact cleaner. I used a brand named DeOxit D5, but other commonly-used brands exist, as well. A second or so spraying into the speed control lever slot (no need to even open the housing), a few seconds of waiting, and a few more up-and-down runs on the control lever: voila! The motor was running and the speed control was fine. Others may want to explore this option, particularly if the mixer has been unused for a significant period of time.
(Alas, in my case, this did nothing to get the beater moving. Further investigation revealed a gear set that had been savaged - lots of teeth chipped on the accessory drive gear, and >30 degrees of teeth missing on both the bevel gear and worm follower gear. Luckily - surprisingly - the worm gear itself seems fine, as doe the planetary system. Back to online shopping...)

It's functional without it, but not as comfortable switching speeds. Is it possible to take the old one off and move it over (seems like it's on there pretty sollidly)? Or are those sold separately?

Mr Mixer...So glad to find a KA mixer guru!
I have six KA lift bowl mixers, the only one not needing repair is the oldest (40 yrs) still running smooth, strong and quiet! Last week my 2 year old Commercial 8qt KSM8990 “beat” itself off the table and crashed, pulling the cord out of the wall. At least the motor wasnt running! But plugged back in it ran for 15 seconds and stopped.
I have had to open it several times to tighten the head wobble, so am familiar with the process. Not sure how to find the problem, but the speed board seems probable.
On this mixer it is under the motor assembly and doesnt look like the one in your video.
How can I test to see if this is the problem, and is this board available for replacement?
Thanks so much for your professional help!

I've seen many comments on as many videos on a variety of these mixers (including much older ones) and I'm wondering why people are so interested in spending money for these if there seems to be inherent weaknesses in key components, such as the control board. just how reliable are these machines? and why do you think you see so many board failures?

It's the thermal fuse if it doesn't run at all. If you can jiggle the speed know and get a little action out of it, then the speed board is at fault. If that makes it respond then follow my instructions in an earlier post about cleaning the contacts with just two fingers. No tools required.

I have a older style Professional 600 mixer, It appears i need a new Hall sensor (i see no longer in stock anywhere).. (Mixer turns on but cant control speed, then shuts itself off). I have plans to replace the whole control board/and power cord just like your tutorial.
Interesting thing is if i reverse the wire which attaches the Hall sensor to the control board (2 prongs), the mixer will operate. (the wire with the red stripe on the side). Id appreciate your thoughts on this, and if you'd think this would cause any problems running it like this

I took the switch apart from the cheap plastic plate. Found the even cheaper plastic slide was hooked to the eternal and internal switch by a tiny little (maybe 4mm) wide black plastic piece. That was broke, which is why the external switch slides so freely. It’s not attached to the internal switch anymore. Why anyone make such a vital and much used piece of hardware out of plastic is infuriating.

I am trying to fix my Professional 600 mixer. A technician replaced my switch control board but it doesn't turn on unless I wiggle it back and forth for several minutes. I opened it up and it has an old style board with a regulator. There is one wire that is not connected at all and there are 2 wires with peach colored connectors attached to the motor 1 and motor 2 tabs. Is it possible that they just replaced the motor one and 2 connectors? although it does have the sautered on wire instead of the clip on wire. Help please !

    • @MrMixer316
      @MrMixer316  3 роки тому

It sounds as if there is definitely still something going on with the board, the older style had thst little resistor on the outside of the board, it sounds like they likely never replaced the board because the new ones shouldn't have that resistor portion, all the wires should be clipped to the board a total of 4 wires and then the flat ribbon wire that connects to the hall sensor. A new cord probably wouldn't hurt either to eliminate the excess wire

I was actually able to fix this same issue on mine. Don’t know if this will work for everyone but I removed the circuit board from the black piece and then removed the slider box from the circuit board (be cautious when removing the slider because the slider is spring loaded with two tiny balls on the ends to lock the slider into one of the many speed positions on the box [diamond shapes on either side of this box]. The box is removed by twisting a couple tabs to clear some slots on the circuit board.
The slider has two copper tabs that spring to make contact with the contacts in the circuit board. On mine, these seemed less “springy” than I expected so I bent them a little more back so they would spring back harder and ensure contact with the circuit board.
Secondly, I used isopropyl alcohol (make sure it’s >90%) and a cotton swab to clean the slider contacts on the circuit board as well as all the other contacts on the circuit board.
After assembling everything back together, the stand mixer now works fine. No guarantees but just wanted to share what worked for me

I am stumped. Mixer would not turn on, disassembled it and pulled the plastic piece that is held to the control board with 4 screws. The mixer works normally without the plastic piece, it goes though all the speeds and shuts off fine. When I put the plastic piece on it will not turn on. I am aware of the little switch that is a single pole shut off that is activated with a ramp like protrusion in the switch part that I have referenced. I verified visually that the little switch is clickkngoff and on when the piece is on but it still will not turn on. Anybody have any ideas about what could be wrong?

If you can wiggle the knob and it works chances are you can fix this really cheap with NO PARTS NEEDED. Most likely there is NOTHING wrong with the speed control board. You have a dirty one. Pivot the speed control board out without disconnecting anything. Remove the 4 screws that attach the plastic cover to the board and CAREFULLY remove the plastic cover. Get a spray can of contact cleaner and spray the hell out of the slider slot and the black microswitch above it. Go to town on them, particularly the switch nub on the bottom of the microswitch. Put the slider to full speed and the knob to full speed and reattach the plastic cover to the board. Check to see it slides freely and clicks like it should. Reassemble the mixer and enjoy its function. The reason these fail is crud gets in the slider and switch. Contact cleaner fixes them both for less than $20 a can! Fixed a free on someone was fed up with in 15 minutes. Lake house mixer for FREE!
