Civilization 5 gameplay / lets play stream on Deity difficulty playing as Poland on Pangaea map!
Poland is a fantastic civilization to play due to a myriad of bonuses, however another map yields another game without many luxuries. We at least get a 4 city sim, but Lodz is quesionable at best. There's not a lot in our land, and we can do our best with our usual strategy(s) / tips / tricks, but if anyone can fix it then Poland can!

A reason why stealing workers and settlers from the AI early on can be slowing them down is because they are set to follow a specific step by step build pattern so when you interrupt that pattern they will keep checking and correcting by going back in steps. Someone made a video where there was only snow tiles and nothing to do and all the AI did the excact same build order in putting out the same amount of different units such as warriors, workers, settlers etc.
Based on the information available at turn 1, settling the capital on the desert hill is far superior to coastal.
1. Hill mountain river is a super strong start.
2. You have an immediate 3 food tile to work and a sheep tile in first ring.
3. Hydro plant in cap.
4. Coastal spot did not have any visible sea resources (got lucky with 2 in third ring) 5. Two flatland desert garbage in coastal city.
I'm gonna chip into the early conversation of favorite civ.
My 2 favorite civs are Indonesia and Inca. They're able to make cities in places that other civs can't make use of as easily (indonesia because of extra luxuries, Inca because of Terrace farms). So I just like that unique ability to keep an eye out for odd spots.
About time you rolled Poland. You’ve gone on about them and I’m looking forward to finishing watching this as I can.
Haha yes! I played too many trash civs in my first few videos, but that is changing now!
2:22:57 Forbidden Palace, while being built, is a surprisingly bright white pile of shoe boxes (roughly the right proportions compared to the real deal).
Ah thanks for the tip! I'll have to do a better job in learning to wonder spot - oddly enough it's the amount of Deity I play that's left me bad at it since I tend to write off any wonder I don't have a tech lead for!
@@PCJLaw To be perfectly honest, I have not bothered to learn more than a handful of the wonders by heart. My main source of knowledge is Filthyrobot´s wonder spotting guide. It is short and easy to use while still giving you all the details needed.

What are your thoughts on completing both liberty and tradition as Poland, I like doing this as Poland and if I build the Oracle I can usually finish both trees right before renaissance and then go I to rationalism like normal.

I think I have the same UI mod that you have, unfortunately when I look at certain units at the city screen itll have weird script running through the descriptions. Its annoying because I find the colored hexagons corresponding to citizens so useful
Don't worry about pronouncing Warsaw correctly as it's the English spelling and most Brits I know say it 'War-Saw'. In Polish it's spelled Warszawa and is pronounced something like Var-Sha-Va'.
Lódź is the tricky one because it uses 2 letters unused in English alphabet. Ó is pronounced same as U. But there's nothing like ź in English.
But phonetically probably the closest to 'Woo-D-Gi', but it's a one syllable word, so don't add any vowel sounds other than the U (Ó). Good luck haha
