Civilization 5 gameplay / lets play stream 45 on Deity difficulty playing as Carthage!

    Free Harbours!!!
^ Sadly that's the only good thing about Carthage. But hey, at least it's instant city connections to any coastal city, and it does make the Seaport more viable later on.
That said, I seem to have all my best games as Carthage, and this is no different!
We get screwed by Korea with their initial settler, so we take drastic action and comp bow rush the AI before they have high tier units to stop us. All in all, it goes pretty well!

Carthage are not good, but somehow I have my best games as Carthage! Which bad civ do you always seem to do well with?
A bit of early war every once in a while is a nice change of pace...

France and Indonesia (if you can count them as bad). The extra happiness boost from those exclusive luxury resources is so good.

@@moosegoose3159 Indonesia definitely good, they're a lot better than people make them out to be!
People think they suck when they don't get any islands because you don't get their OP ability, but their Garden replacement building is really cool. If you get a religion you can take Garden Happiness, which is a poor choice as any civ without all their cities on rivers. However, it's a top tier belief to choose as Indonesia. Even without religion you still get an extra faith generation building, and the ability to build gardens in every city (which rarely happens on a coastal empire)

Hi, I noticed for your deity games you typically play on quick speed, does it make the game less difficult to play at quicker speeds?

      Hi,
Thank you for your fantastic content! I can't believe I have just discovered your channel - I thought no one made new Civ5 videos anymore.
I'm seriously impressed by the quality of your content; it's fantastic. You explain things thoroughly and very clearly, thanks! :)
I have a comment regarding annexing vs razing vs puppeting: what I sometimes do is start razing immediately after capture, then stop razing when the population is low (sometimes as low as 2 or 1). I think it helps with unhappiness in the long run (less resistance, lower unhappiness) while keeping the territory of that city and its resources.
I tend to overdo this, especially when there are still strategic resources to be discovered.
As an added bonus, it avoids other AI to settle this area, which they will eventually do.
I have noticed that it isn't something that you do: do you think this razing-then-annexing strategy is not viable?
Thanks a bunch and I really hope you'll keep producing more Civ5 content in the future!

Won diety for the first time ever a few hours ago thanks to your vids! Don't know why I decided Japan was the civ to accomplish that with XD.

One of the few good things about extremely early war is that if you somehow wipe out an AI before meeting any other civs, you don't have to worry about warmonger penalties. Unfortunately, Polynesia usually appears in my games to mess this up.

Yep, it happens sometimes. When the IA settles so close to you, going for an early war has usually the best chance of saving the game. Holding a second capital so early helps out to get back the lost tempo.

A long time later, but if you leave an inquisitor in a city, it prevents other missionaries and prophets from converting that city. That makes it fairly easy to keep a religion, even neighbouring the Celts, provided you have good faith generation to get inquisitors up. I generally prefer mosques to pagodas to ramp up the faith generation. I also pick Religious Texts to fight religious pressure from other religions, along with Tithe.

1:54:00 mongolia is actually immortal in the renaissance scenario. they start with 40 keshiks which no unit can counter in that scenario.

Can you do a liberty game? I'm really curious as to how pro players play liberty. Playing tradition all the time gets boring for me.

Imo putting the first spy into a city-state was a mistake, spy steals are critical, especially early on. I get not wanting to put the spy in Seoul but there were two other capitals available.

I really think world faith wonders would have been better the. god King. The extra 4 faith per turn and waiting a reliving would have really helped your early game happiness or production. Then it would have given you motivation to take mount sinai, completing owning all the religion on your peninsula. I’m sure would have paid off the investment.

I definitely would have torched busan. For one it overlaps too much with your capital and seoul. #2 it's not coastal ( i would have settled on desert stone or eastern coastal cotton.) 3. Its much easier on happiness, production, etc the fewer enemy cities you have. I only puppet/annex capitals and burn the rest. It's a shame capitals can't be razed.

    • @fortunastreet
      @fortunastreet 3 роки тому +2

Capitals in civ 5 are usually pretty good cities, as they always have at least two different luxuries and a good balance of growth/productive tiles, there is little cases were you would actually want to burn one.
