Hi, I’m watching from Southern Arizona. Great video, My latest project has been an attempt at Faux Tiles with napkin decoupage on hardboard. I think you solved my problem of getting a clear adhesion with poly vine. Do you have any videos on tiles or coasters using this method?
Hi Beth! Thank you and I'm happy you enjoyed this video! I'm glad it helped your adhesion problems. Polyvine is an excellent product. I don't have any videos on tile yet, but I have plans to do some coasters in the future. I was thinking of doing them on tiles. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
Love that you can do decoupaging on dark surfaces, that I had to give this a try as soon I found your video. Help Please, I did all the steps I believe correct. Where I ran into a problem was the white paint it shows through to the front of the napkin what did I do wrong. It really shows that it is painted.
Hi Brenda, The image on your napkin may have blank areas or maybe the image isn't dense. If there are any blank areas that don't have any print, the paint will show through. Examine your napkin and see if this is the case. Maybe try a different napkin. Let me know if this works for you. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
Hi Donna, This method doesn't work well on rice paper. Rice paper is too porous so the paint bleeds through. You definitely shouldn't take the paint all the way to the edges though. The only thing that should have any paint, would be the actual image. No paint on any of the blank areas. Rice paper isn't translucent enough to be able to get the paint on the back accurately. It works much better on a napkin. Even with the napkin though, only paint the image, nothing on any of the blank areas. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
Hi Tom! Thanks, so glad you like it. It opens up a whole new world for decoupaging! Thanks for always watching and sending me messages. Love hearing from you and Marie 💖😊

Hi Bernie, Isn't it great not to be limited to a white background? I personally love that idea. Polyvine is the magic! I didn't try this on cardstock, but I can't see why it wouldn't work. Give it a try on a sample piece and let me know if it works. I'd love to hear. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖 📧My email: masoncreationsetc@yahoo.com
Hi there and greetings from Michigan. I want to decoupage some rice paper on the front of the drawers of a black bedside stand. Can I use this for a big project as well?
Yes you can. Make sure you put several coats of varnish on the back of your rice paper before you add the white paint. If there isn't enough varnish the paint will bleed through your image. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
Hi, could you share the polyvine product you used. I saw several online but don't know which to buy. It's expensive so I didn't want to get the wrong thing. Thank you!
Hi Rosemary, I used Decorators varnish in this video, but since then I've started using Heavy Duty Wood varnish for everything. It works really well. It's good on all surfaces. This particular formula is moisture and heat resistant as well as food safe. So it is really good for coasters or anything in a kitchen or bathroom. I use the satin finish. It deepens to a deep shine when you add several coats. I'll leave you the link below. You really can't go wrong with any of the Polyvine products. They all work amazingly well. All of them can be used for decoupage glue as well as a final varnish. It just depends on which one you like better and for me it's the heavy duty wood varnish. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖 decoupagenapkins.com/products/polyvine-heavy-duty-wood-varnish?sca_ref=3969749.C8aAXEduCt
Will the Polyvine Decorators Varnish work on the decoupage projects? I'm not sure if there is a difference in this varnish and the Polyvine Heavy Duty Varnish For Wood that you are using.
Hi there, yes you can use the decorators varnish. I used the heavy duty wood varnish because that's what I had on hand. I've been using decorators varnish for all my decoupaging now. It's a wonderful product. I'll leave you a link. I tried this method using rice paper and the white paint speckled through in some areas and the torn edges stood out because of the white paint… Also I was curious if you’ve tried the iron method through any of this process? Thnx from Donna in Williston, Florida
I'm actually not a fan of the iron method. It peels off too easily, but a lot of people swear by it. Give it a try and see which one you like best. Thanks again for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
❤this idea, I have a quick question I have a water based clear topcoat that actually came in a countertop kit that I never ended up using 😂 anyway I have used it to topcoat rocks and different projects oh the name of the kit was by Giovanni if that helps, And I have a old vinyl cookie sheet I’ll try on. Can you lmk what you think ❤you ideas and your finished projects are always just beautiful. Ty.
Hi there Witchy Woman! It's so nice to see you. I'm so happy that you always love my projects. Is the cookie sheet vinyl or silicone? Silicone is the magic, I'm not sure vinyl would work. But if it's able to be used in an oven, I'm going to guess it's probably silicone. Not sure about the topcoat. I would try it on a sample piece of napkin and see what happens. I know for a fact the Polyvine works and Mod Podge does not. I tried them both. What you need is for the edges of the napkin to turn completely clear so you don't have to fussy cut an intricate design. I say give it a sample try and let me know how it turns out. I'd love to know! Thanks for always watching and send me messages. Love hearing from you 💖😊
Hi Wendy, I have a solution for you. I'm going to leave you a link below for the company that I order all my Polyvine from. They ship to Australia 💖 They also have tons of other craft supplies. I used the Heavy Duty Wood Varnish, but they make several other formulas. Make sure you check it out. Beautiful rice papers and napkins! I just watched your video through decoupage napkins it was cool. But you don't say which is best to get. Gloss, matte or flat? I believe it's the one with the butterfly but wasn't sure which kind to get as far as finish?
Hi there! I'm so glad you enjoyed this video. I used the Heavy Duty Wood Varnish in a Satin finish, which is actually pretty glossy. It's great for trays and coasters because it's heavily resistant to water and heat. It's the one with the shells on the bottle. You can use whichever finish you prefer. I haven't actually tried it with the flat finish though. I've ordered a bottle of that and will be testing it out as well. You want to make sure whichever one you use, makes the edges of the napkin turn clear so you don't have to fussy cut. If you want to send me you're email address, I'll let you know my findings once I try the matte finish. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖 📧My email: masoncreationsetc@yahoo.com
Hi there! In this video I used decorators varnish. All their varnishes can double as a decoupage adhesive. My favorite is the Heavy Duty Wood Varnish. It's water and heat resistant, and food safe. You can use it on any surface, not just wood. Whatever varnish I'm going to use, I also use as my decoupage adhesive. They all work so much better than the popular brand of decoupage glue. I'll leave you a link. It's a safe link. Hi there, my favorite Polyvine to use for varnish and decoupage glue is Heavy Duty Wood Varnish. It's good for all surfaces, not just wood. It's waterproof and heat resistant, so it's great for coasters. I'll leave you a link below so you can find it easily. It's a safe link. This store has amazing rice papers and napkins as well. Hi Peggy, Polyvine is actually a varnish, but works excellent as a glue as well. It works so much better than Mod Podge for decoupaging. Here are the steps. 1. wet the napkin. 2. Paint the Polyvine on item. 3. Place item on the wet Polyvine. I'm going to leave you a link for another video that will be helpful for you. It goes into more detail on how to decoupage with the water method. I also left you a link for the Polyvine varnish. Hi Michelle, You're not an idiot..lol... I'm actually doing it just a tiny bit different from the video now. So, I'm going to list the steps for you 😊 I used Polyvine heavy duty wood varnish for this method. It's so much better than Mod Podge. I'm going to leave you a safe link for that. I use it for everything, all surfaces, for decoupage glue and a varnish. Let me know if you have any other questions at all. Thanks again for watching and sending me messages. Also; thanks for subscribing. I love making new crafty friends 😊💖 1. Paint Polyvine on silicone mat 2.Put your prepped napkin on a piece of plastic face up, spray with water. 3. Delicately smooth out the large wrinkles, don't worry about small ones. 4. Lay the napkin and plastic on the wet Polyvine and smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles through the plastic, then remove plastic and let dry. Your napkin should be face down, backside up. 5. Paint another layer of Polyvine over the napkin and let dry, repeat another coat of Polyvine and let dry. The coats of Polyvine on the back of the napkin keeps the white paint from seeping through the napkin. So make sure you put enough on. You can do as many coats as you want. It won't hurt it. 6. Once dry you can peel it up off the mat and paint the backside of the napkin white, only in the printed areas. Don't put the white in any areas that are blank or the white paint will show through.
Thank you, I will give it another try.@@masoncreationsetc
Hi Brenda, let me know how it turns out. 😊
I had the same issue with rice paper and the white paint showed awful around the torn edges 🤷🏼♀️

Can this be used on cardstock for cards? Thanks for the interested video. Love the idea of not having to have a white background!
Hi Bernie, Isn't it great not to be limited to a white background? I personally love that idea. Polyvine is the magic! I didn't try this on cardstock, but I can't see why it wouldn't work. Give it a try on a sample piece and let me know if it works. I'd love to hear. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖

Hi Agnes!
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖

Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖

I tried this method using rice paper and the white paint speckled through in some areas and the torn edges stood out because of the white paint…
Also I was curious if you’ve tried the iron method through any of this process?
Thnx from Donna in Williston, Florida
Hi Donna, This method doesn't work well on rice paper. Rice paper is too porous so the paint bleeds through. You definitely shouldn't take the paint all the way to the edges though. The only thing that should have any paint, would be the actual image. No paint on any of the blank areas. Rice paper isn't translucent enough to be able to get the paint on the back accurately. It works much better on a napkin. Even with the napkin though, only paint the image, nothing on any of the blank areas. I hope this helps.
Love hearing from you 💖😊
We don’t have polyvine in Australia. What is an alternative, please?
Hi Wendy, I have a solution for you. I'm going to leave you a link below for the company that I order all my Polyvine from. They ship to Australia 💖 They also have tons of other craft supplies. I used the Heavy Duty Wood Varnish, but they make several other formulas. Make sure you check it out. Beautiful rice papers and napkins! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖.

Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖

What kind of polyvinyl did you use, there are many
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖

You're very welcome 😊💖
is this polyvine a glue or a varnish and do you put the spray of water onto it while still wet
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖

Hello
Hi Diane, Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message all the way from Australia 😊💖
Is the 'back' of the image the side that touches the polyvine on the silicone mat? Or the other one? (Yes, im sn idiot 😊)
I love making new crafty friends 😊💖
1. Paint Polyvine on silicone mat
2.Put your prepped napkin on a piece of plastic face up, spray with water.

Why not just use a photocopy ? All the white painting is a lot of work.
Hi there, You sure can use a photocopy, but it's a very different look from a napkin.
I do use photocopies as well as napkins and rice paper. If you choose to use a napkin, this is just a solution for a dark background. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
