The thicker you apply the crackle medium the larger the crackle, but in this application I think the small crackles are gorgeous. I love the outcome. I am always looking for coasters, but I think I am just going to make my own now!!!! Thanks for the great tutorial....
beautiful work! your english is so impeccable .The same goes for your rythm as you speak! explanations superb and clear! You make it look real simple.I am not native speaker and with you it looks as if I were one. Thanks!
You couldn’t pick a cutest napkin the whole project is absolutely gorgeous . Looks easy and I will try ! never use this way to use water to attach the napkin to the surface to decorate ;I love it ❣️❣️👍🏼
I tried the water method once and it was a disaster. I watched your video and thought I would try again. This time it was fantastic! They are smooth as a baby's bottom! I now have the confidence to do this method some more. Thanks!
Delightful to watch, and the end product is beautiful. I used to decoupage - quite a few years ago - but never knew about 'floating' the napkin on water to get the wrinkles out. I'm intrigued to give it a go. Thanks for posting!💖
Very pretty. Have never done wooden coasters always use ceramic tiles for my coasters. Great idea using the mica powder for the cracks.. that way the cracks can be any color to compliment the napkin you’re using. 👏👏👏🦋
Wow! I just found these beginner lessons and I have learned so much more! You are a very great tutor! I cannot wait to try these many video lessons! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise! Lisa
amazing , started by watching your decoupage for beginners cant stop watching and had to subscribe. I love the way you teach. I definetly will start with the small coasters
I think the small crackles are perfect for the size of coaster 👍👍 So with the water method the napkin is put straight onto the painted surface? No glue under? The coasters are exquisite!
This is gorgeous and a new to me technique. I do have a question though. Can I use one of the regular decoupage methods to apply the napkin and then follow the rest of your tutorial for the crackle part? It will still work correct? Thank you. I have subscribed and will be watching your videos. You are a wonderful creator and teacher
Great idea to use a plastic file folder to eliminate all the bubbles and wrinkles! ❤ You’ve probably figured this out in the last 2 years 😂 but I’ve used crackle medium and found a thick coat or a thin coat of the product determines the size of the crackles. I think your small crackles are the perfect size for these coasters. Sorry to take so long to find you, but glad I found this project and all the great techniques you used! I’m thinking of doing this to make over some perfectly good but dated coasters I have around here. Jan
You have just gained a new subbie! I stumbled on this video quite by chance tonight, and I am blown away but what you have done here. I already have some napkins and wood coasters plus decoupage medium, so I am good to start, while I get some of the other stuff! LOVE the effects of the crackle glaze, it's awesome! Thanks for sharing, and I look forward to seeing more of your videos!
I wonder if this effect can be used with just a crackle medium. I just don’t know what I would use for Step 2 that is clear. Maybe just a sealer. Hmmmmm! You make it look so easy, so I will give it a go using a crackle medium vs a crackle lacquer! Thank you for the beautiful tutorial!
I have not used that brand of crackle but generally speaking using Finnabair’s or Stamperia’s crackle paste the thicker you apply the paste the bigger the cracks, the thinner gets you fine cracks. These are gorgeous!
Just watched your tutorial..thank you for the video. I am planning to make coasters from birch wood. Do you have a list of materials to buy for a beginner like myself? 😊
Hello, these are lovely. I am wondering if you got the smaller crack because it was over a napkin, rather than paint? I really don't know. It was just a thought. Please keep sharing. You explain things really well. Thank you!
thank you so much. Cups sticking to coasters seems to be a big problem. Have you tested the heavy duty wood varnish with hot cups - do the coasters stick to the cups when you pick them up? many thanks Margaret
So beautiful! I will be trying this project for sure. I was wondering if you can use the same method with travertine tiles? I would probable use something else instead of the wood varnish unless it works on different types of surfaces. Thank you so much for sharing!
You can use the same method on tiles and as far as I know people that work on tiles use wood varnish as well, no problem but it’s up to you of course ☺️
You can use this varnish for finishing. But you can't cover the tile surface with paint or primer for wood. You can use a special primer for glass and ceramics. I use the primer Tikkurila Otex for priming stone, glass, metal and ceramics. This primer is based on a solvent and does not have a very pleasant smell, but it is very good.
Just found this video even though it’s 3 years old it’s one of the best for decoupage coasters! Clear explanations and they turned out beautiful
The thicker you apply the crackle medium the larger the crackle, but in this application I think the small crackles are gorgeous. I love the outcome. I am always looking for coasters, but I think I am just going to make my own now!!!! Thanks for the great tutorial....
I love how they all turned out the same !! beautiful coasters ! May 2023
I thought the small crackle you achieved was absolutely lovely, I wouldn't want the cracks larger on something so small as a coaster so perfect. 😊🐾
LOVE the mica powder! Brilliant outside the box idea! Thanks for sharing!
beautiful work! your english is so impeccable .The same goes for your rythm as you speak! explanations superb and clear! You make it look real simple.I am not native speaker and with you it looks as if I were one. Thanks!
I purchased some modpodge and decorative paper. But had no idea how to use it so This tutorial was extremely helpful. Thank you!
You couldn’t pick a cutest napkin the whole project is absolutely gorgeous . Looks easy and I will try ! never use this way to use water to attach the napkin to the surface to decorate ;I love it ❣️❣️👍🏼
I really like the little cracks for this wee birdy!!
Absolutely beautiful. I love the idea of using the mica powder for shading the cracks. I will try that! Thanks for a great video ❤

I tried the water method once and it was a disaster. I watched your video and thought I would try again. This time it was fantastic! They are smooth as a baby's bottom! I now have the confidence to do this method some more. Thanks!
Did you try a mug on it? A hot one

Lovely! Is it the wood varnish that makes the coasters heat resistant?
Would these stand up to hot coffee cups as well as engine lacquer
