Monday with Helen 🤗. Another great travel vlog with a bit more sunshine this time. It was lovely to see your uncle, and the war medals. I’m sure he was happy to see you and reminisce with you. The old stories are getting lost. I’m glad you bought the rose bowl, I would definitely have bought it too. The Gaelic named shop where you bought it was full of beautiful treasures. Kind of sad to think of the people who loved them and are now gone. Such is life, no point dwelling. Chocolate cake - yum. Sausage rolls - yum. What passes for sausage rolls here - well, they’re good but not what you had. The old bookstores - so many wonderful books! Hard not to take them all. We’d need a lifetime of tea and cake to get thru them 🤩. So much in this video (as always ❤️) bird song, sea, wind, lighthouses, edibles …… love your travels Helen. Thank you both for taking us along 🤗🤗🤗🥰

Hi Helen. Finally got settled in for the evening. We've had Andy's mum here for a few hours. Then we went to Blacksheep craft barn. She treated me to a crochet mandala book and some cotton yarn for my birthday. Then, after dropping her off, we went to see our grandchildren.
Really enjoyed seeing part 2. The scenery is breathtaking. Looks like you had the weather of every description. Sitting crafting in such surroundings is just perfect. Loved hearing the dawn chorus.

I was hoping for a longer video. I could watch your travels for hours. So much to see. That wind must have been brisk😮, those waves were fierce. I love watching them, too. That woodland looked enchanted. I was imagining that mossy tree as a fairy in a green dress. I find it fascinating to pay particular attention to the various moss, lichen and fungi. There is so much variety.
Your uncle's garden was lovely, lots of fun stuff too. Love the green man.
I'm glad you and Phil have been making good use of that van, rain or shine, and not getting too frustrated by a broken water nozzle. You live in a beautiful, interesting and diverse country and I enjoy seeing it through your eyes. thanks for sharing.🤗

This was just a wonderful trip down memory lane for me. My father was born and brought up in Monreith, a tiny village near Port William, which I was hoping to see, but you may have bypassed it on the way to Whithorn. Monreith has a lovely little memorial to Gavin Maxwell, the author of Ring of Bright Water, in the form of a bronze otter looking out to sea over Luce Bay towards the Mull. Nearby there is an ancient graveyard containing the family crypt of the Maxwell’s of Monreith. Port William was named after Sir William Maxwell. Monreith House and Elrig House are still owned by the Maxwell family I believe. They used to own most of Galloway! Incidentally, my great grandfather who was a farmer and a blacksmith, made the wrought iron gates for the Whithorn Priory. His name used to be on a brass plaque by the gates, but has been lost through time and never replaced. I thoroughly enjoyed your choice of music throughout, and of course especially hearing Bonnie Galloway from the first video. Thank you. ❤

I hoped you would purchase the dear little rose bowl you did😘 and that you could show us where your recent vintage book purchases originated. Of the wall hangings I could only be reasonably confident of 'Treasure Island'- I'm mulling over the one showing the fish, thinking maybe I should recognise that one. Please enlighten us, Helen. I hope to watch the two videos together in the next few days as together they will be even more of a treat. Great that your water loss could be fixed while you were away. Thanks again.... I thoroughly enjoyed this video Helen and was quite excited to catch a glimpse of my very favourite book when I was a young child in school in the 1960s, in a bookshop in Wigtown - The Faber Book of Nursery Verse (21:50). Wonderful as usual Helen , I think sometimes the Dumfries and Galloway area is not visited as much as other areas of Scotland, but you have shown how beautiful it is there . We can now see where you get your artistic flair from , the painting your grandpa painted look lovely . The bird song I enjoyed very much it always amazes me that some of the smallest birds have loudest but beautiful song , thankyou again take care 😊

Thank you, Wendy. I think you're right, that not so many people think about visiting the south-west corner of Scotland! The dawn chorus in the Wood of Cree made such a wonderful start to our day! xx

Oh Helen , isn’t it amazing how casually we take mishaps whilst we travel in a van! At home everything appears so dramatic, but in a van …. What lessons we must learn to transfer! Your quilt-as-you-go hand stitching has intrigued me. We will be doing short trips until September, but then I need to plan for 8 - 12 weeks or more. I was thinking of working on a quilt with the daisy and grace hexagon in a star templates. I noticed how prepped your fabrics were and it made me worried. I was coming to the realization that I wouldn’t have my stash of batting or fabrics to pull from, so what then! I wonder if just prepping the batting(wadding) and some fabric and purchasing more as I travel might be a fun way to do it. That may lend to a quirky albeit memory inspired quilt! Once again, thank you for the inspiration. Happy crafting and travels.

Hi Carolyn, you are quite right, that we take such mishaps much more calmly when we're in a van! It would definitely be good to transfer this to life at home. How lovely to be planning for a really long trip in September! I love your idea of finding fabrics along the way to include in a quilt! I loved having the little pile of quilt-as-you-go squares to work on during this short trip. Happy travels to you, too! xx

Thank you for a lovely trip Helen. I was pleased to see that your ‘ sock’ project bag was made from one of my favourite fabrics. I only managed to acquire a small piece but enough to make into one of my most used small bags.

Yum, scampi and chips - one of my favourites too - especially with lots of tartare sauce! I'm always surprised by the amount of great places you find to stay overnight for free. That dawn chorus was amazing🎶 I could hear a song thrush singing loudly while you took your photos😂 They are so loud - who needs an alarm clock with one of those perched nearby?! 😂 Your shots of the various lichens were beautiful. I want to watch again, for there were fantastic shadows on the road as you approached one of the villages or towns. I just love viewing all the living "paintings" as you drive along the roads! And Phil's photography is always a treat.
My husband's ears pricked up and he came over to look when you were talking about the aeroplanes😁. (He enjoys your piano playing as much as I do!)
Thank you for another lovely episode, Helen.
    P. S. I could hear the donkeys whispering in the woods... "I'm disappointed too, darling. I promise I'll have another word with our Helen." 😉💕
