Something brought me back to this vlog tonight, in lonesome October, It is special to me because posted it on my late Husband’s birthday and I seem to miss him the most this time of year., when winter is not far off. The music at the beginning,is beautiful, the Calm before the appoaching storm., with a touch of the melancholy of late Fall. This is one of your best vlogs .. My favorite parts are the way you and Zephyr, hunkered down, together listening to the the roar of the wind all night. And the story of the.little Wrens,, shelterng inside their tree. i love all the music you selected, it fits every scene perfectly. 💕 from NW WA 🌲🌲🇺🇸
Thank you for taking the time to visit Wedgwood. I am originally from Longton but my parents emigrated to Australia when I was 10 in 1960. I returned in 1970 and worked in the offices at Wedgwood Barlaston. We had a couple of royal visits, one from Prince Phillip and another from Princess Margaret and the Queen Mother. I loved every minute of my three years there before coming back to Australia. I had every intention of returning to travel more but fate intervened when I met my future husband on my return journey home. It was an unforgettable time and I made lasting memories. The factory is set in beautiful farm land in Barlaston and as I remember every one I met loved working there 💫🇬🇧🫖. Last time I was there I visited the cafe where the afternoon tea was served on the most beautiful crockery you will find.
What a fabulous story; when you next visit, you should add these memories to that wall that I read from. Fancy meeting so much royalty too!Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend, take care🌻🦋
I once walked the canal path from Hebden Bridge to Todmorden. It was evening, then it was night. The barges looked so cozy. Sometimes a bit of smoke escaped, sometimes I could hear muffled music. Beautiful.
I know exactly what you mean by this. When I walk along the canal in the evening and see the boats' lights and chimney smoke it makes me feel all cosy too. Thank you so much for watching my vlog. Have a super week, take care🌻🦋
WOW I have lived nearby on the river Avon for 12 years and never seen it frozen over like that. Your nature art is awesome. A real talent you have. Edit: By the way, that's called a Dip Stick. What Del Boy used to call Rodney.

Glad to see you made it through the storm OK. I worry about all the narrowboaters there with these harsh storms and flooding! Waiting excitedly for your 2022 and 2023 journals to arrive here in New Hampshire USA! Stay safe! Much love!
I think it always sounds worse on a narrowboat than it actually is. Storm Jocelyn was worse, I thought as it shook the boat a lot more. Thank you so much for buying my books and for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend, take care🦋🌻
Looks so much like the Erie Canal near where I was born in upstate NY, USA. I also remember the drawing or pencil box. My wife of that time, the 80s on, liked crafts and drawing. Since I had once enjoyed it myself before becoming an engineer, I got a kit as well. We even joined an exhibition together along the canal. We also rode mule drawn narrowboats on the original canal remnants. She passed away in 2010. I remarried a year ago.
Gosh! Just found your beautiful videos. I’ve lived in the US for 24 years now but you really made me miss England. I grew up playing on and around the Grand Union Canal in Solihull. Lovely, lovely content! Xxxx
Solihull is very special to me as Edith Holden was brought up there and I did a series of videos last year when I was in that area trying to find out more about her. Thank you so much for watching. Take care 🌻🦋
61 wrens in a nest box is crazy. Such delightful birds. Very interesting to hear about how you plan your days and work and what it means. So difficult with these storms. What a crazy winter. I have never known such extreme weather. I really feel for you. How exhausting all that walking. Be safe please.
Another lovely video Vanessa, I loved seeing inside the Wedgewood museum and hearing all about it. Thank you for sharing. All your videos are so interesting and beautiful 🥰
I will return to the Kennet and Avon in a few years; I visited it at the beginning of my narrowboat life and it was beautiful. Thank you for watching. Take care 🌻🦋
. Your camera shots of the storm from the enclosure and security of your boat makes the viewer feel so snug. That makes this one of my favorite videos of yours. I keep going back to those parts.
Hi Vanessa: I didn't realize that your 2023 Journal was available but when I went to your Etsy shop I found that they're already sold out! Let us know when they've replenished Etsy because I'd really love to buy it! 🦆📗 The cute little wren is a survivor! When they all nest together they take turns who gets to be in the warm center, then rotate towards the outer perimeter, which the little wren and his buddies did during Storm Isha. Wonderful learning about your different sources of income. Glad that Alice Grace weathered the storm even though you didn't sleep a wink. At least Zephyr got some shut-eye! Hopefully you grabbed a catnap in between Isha and Jocelyn. Cheerio! Jenny 🌀☔🌪❄😴💤
Hi Jenny, I love that fact about the rotating wrens!🥰 I hope to have my 2023 journal back in stock by the end of next week.Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care🌻🦋
We are really enjoying your videos. You are so talented! I love the wrens. We get two varieties in the US both are adorable and they sing so loud, we always know when they are in the garden .They are known to find a warm place to sleep at night, sometimes using a nesting box. :)

And that you're using a post-box for the delivery ! For Huawei, we say Wah-way, although i think there were issues here with that provider/supplier
I love the sound of thunder and lightning, stormy winds and heavy rain or hail bouncing off my windows,it sends me to sleep within minutes. I don't do social media where can I purchase your book. Excellent video as always. Thanks you.
Rain sounds wonderfully calming on a boat, but the bashing of the solar panels in the wind just doesn't have the same effect for me. This is only the second 'Mindful Narrowboat' video I've watched and it's wonderful. I particularly liked the footage (how quaint that we still use that word) of the Tree Creeper, I've never seen the bird or any video of it before. Most of the rest of the land birds used to visit our garden, but not any more. I miss the noise of the jackdaws. We get Goldfinches from time to time, though and they're gorgeous.
Seeing Hem Heath reminds me of my youth and when the coal mine at Hem Heath/ Trentham was in production with the vast mine workings lying beneath that area. Lovely vlog

I didn't know about Wrens communally nesting 😮 I wonder if any other birds do that. I've never seen the wind cracking the ice before! Glad you're through it OK. The repeated storms have been vile. You've nice writing, for a teacher, Vanessa, it always amuses me when teachers write in childlike style, outside of work.
That is a good question about communal roosting; I know that some do, but not in a small nest box like that; I loved reading about the record of 61 wrens all tightly packed together for warmth; isn't that adorable?Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend, take care🦋🌻
You touched so many parts of my life. I love the Wedgewood museum. I had thought of revisiting and going on the wheel, pretending I wasn't a former potter. My father worked in design/planning Concord. The Cowel/hood on the stove pipe could do with being fixed with self tappers. You would need a drill for that and an appropriate drill bit. We had 98 mph winds in this last storm.
I am so pleased that the vlog brought back some memories for you. Good tip about the tappers! 98mph winds😱Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care🌻🦋
:smiles: One of my favourites times in watching a narrowboaters channel is when I recognise where they are :D In this case the most resonant was that foot path near the malfunctioning level crossing :)
@@themindfulnarrowboat Ahh no :smiles: My wording was misleading it seems - I just meant that it was malfunctioning in this instance :D Mind you, it does always feel a little 'exposed' and enclosed at the same time when you cross it. I think that is possible because the road is quite narrow and the safety equipment is scaled to suit.
We are lucky, we have a water gauge. When we are filling, the tank gives us a little bang, when it's nearly full then we get a big bang and water flows into the canal when it's totally full 👍 We don't know who devised this, but it's great 👍

Another video full of suspense and drama. The one thing I fear most about weather here is wind storms. We have had some bad ones so bad that I had to go without power for a week once no heat no TV and no internet. I was thinking that’s the one thing about your floating home that’s a plus you still have solar and the nice warm stove to keep you cozy. I felt such sadness watching that tiny little wren trying to survive the cold and wind. Along with my squirrels I have some tiny wrens in my back yard as well I try to remember to feed my little group of furry and feathery friends during the winter. Hope you found your chimney hat see you next Friday have a great week Steve

@@themindfulnarrowboatDear Vanessa, Thank you for your lovely reply and the heart❤ and blue butterfly!
This lady has made herself a wonderful life style ,so interesting with life and the love of nature so southing to one’s soul ❤money just can’t. buy
That is so kind of you😊 Thank you so much ☺️ Take care🌻🦋
WOW I have lived nearby on the river Avon for 12 years and never seen it frozen over like that.
Your nature art is awesome. A real talent you have.
Edit: By the way, that's called a Dip Stick. What Del Boy used to call Rodney.
That is so kind of you! Poor, Rodders! 🤭 Thank you for watching. Take care🦋🌻

A truly beautiful account of a winter storm told in a warm and soothing manner I really enjoyed your trip around the museum and your enthusiasm and delight about the exhibit’s passed down to your ordinance and the poem at the end was beautiful. Thank you…

Splendid drawings......Beatrix Potteresque
That is so, so kind of you- thank you so much. Take care 🦋🌻
Hello again. When we used to caravan we wrapped the aqua rolls in the foam jackets you buy for the hot water cylinders in the house to prevent them freezing
That is such a good idea!Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend, take care🦋🌻

So please I've found your channel. Your videos convey the feeling I get gently paddling on our local canal and lakes. I love spotting wildlife...and will be heading to your Etsy shop ❤
Gentle paddling sounds wonderful! 🤩 Thank you so much for watching. Have a great week. Take care 🌻🦋
I was born and bred in Stoke on Trent, Tunstall. So proud to be a "Clay Head" such a wonderful place with so much history ❤💖😆😆😆
I can see why you are proud as the history and surrounding countryside is amazing. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super rest of the week, take care🦋🌻
The power and force of nature. Never to be underestimated. Glad that you survived such a wicked storm.
The big unresolved question, did you find the “chimney hat”? 🤔👍😀
I wondered that too !
I didn't find my chimney's hat and its head is ever so cold at the moment! 🥶 🤭Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend, take care🦋🌻
Isha took it and has not given it back! 🤭
19:31 just a lovely page from the book ❤
That is so kind of you. Thank you so much. Take care 🌻🦋
You are a very strong ad talented lady. I admire you and the way to overcome all your difficulties. I wish you Many blessings!

I just notice, as you were getting your tea. The cabinet on your right side looked like it was smiling at you. 😊😊😊😊
I shall have a look at that- how wonderful!Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care🌻🦋
What wonderful memories and how special to have ridden mule drawn narrowboats too.Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care🌻🦋
Awesome ❤Photage extrodinary .. narratives splendid ..vocal superb ..background music so nice ..All 🙏
That is so kind of you.Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend, take care🦋🌻
I adore the thought of 61 wrens in a nest box! 🥰 Thank you for your kindness- take care🦋🌻
you had me when you knew your lichens ... your art is fabulous ...
I’m trying to learn more of my lichens but I know the common ones now and I think they are wonderful 🤩 Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care🌻🦋
Another lovely video Vanessa, I loved seeing inside the Wedgewood museum and hearing all about it. Thank you for sharing. All your videos are so interesting and beautiful 🥰
It is such a great place. Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care 🦋🌻
Really nice...do more showing a warm and toasty fire perhaps with a bottle of good red wine
That would be lovely. Thank you so much for watching. Take care 🦋🌻
Fabulous Poetry. Well balanced Metre. If you ever do a Circuit of the Kennet and Avon Canal, near the Village of Aldermaston. I would love to see it.
I’m so pleased it made you feel like that as it’s so cosy on a boat in a storm. Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care 🦋🌻
Take care🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboat You're welcome. Have a great weekend.
The wren is my favorite bird, closely followed by the robin. What a great artist you are.
That’s so kind of you! The wren is wonderful isn’t it? Thank you so much for watching. Take care 🦋🌻
Your ritual of making tea and placing 3 biscuits on a plate always makes me chuckle, but I've got to say, you can't beat a good cuppa!
You absolutely can't beat a good cuppa but it is essential that it has a pile of biscuits with it too! Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care🌻🦋
We are really enjoying your videos.
You are so talented!
I love the wrens. We get two varieties in the US both are adorable and they sing so loud, we always know when they are in the garden
.They are known to find a warm place to sleep at night, sometimes using a nesting box. :)
What a kind comment- I really appreciate it! I'll have to read about your two species of wren- they sound adorable.Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboat we have the House Wren and Carolina Wren, the Carolina Wren has a white stripe above the eyes, other then that they look a like. Both so stinkin cute :)
Thanks Vanessa for being positive organised and creative, during tough weather from freezing rainy Ontario. Glad to hear your community boaters are helping you out too. ❤. And that you're using a post-box for the delivery ! For Huawei, we say Wah-way, although i think there were issues here with that provider/supplier
I shall be able to pronounce it now! 🤩👍Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend, take care🦋🌻
Marvellous. You are truly living. Stay safe.

Loved this video - especially the harp music. Loved the little birds. Yes, I found it relaxing to watch as well. I think you are magical! Sue from NZ
That is so kind of you, Sue- thank you so much! I love the sound of the harp too. Have a super week, take care🌻🦋
My book is on Etsy which guests can buy on without creating an account. It's themindfulnarrowboat.etsy.com I appreciate your interest in buying a copy. Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care🌻🦋
Love the drawings.
Thank you so much 😊 Take care 🌻🦋
Another 'Winner' Vlog .... And good job those crossing gates Jammed CLOSED and not OPEN - EH?? ... The Wedgewood Museum looked rather classy! ... And Free! Too! 😀
That is so kind of you, Pete. I agree with you that open crossing gates offered more hope than jammed shut ones.Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care🌻🦋
Enjoyed the video very much! We will pray for you that God will keep you safe!
That is so thoughtful of you- thank you so much. Take care🌻🦋
What a kind comment- thank you so much! 😊 Tree Creepers are beautiful, little birds aren't they? Have a super rest of the week. Take care 🦋🌻
Seeing Hem Heath reminds me of my youth and when the coal mine at Hem Heath/ Trentham was in production with the vast mine workings lying beneath that area. Lovely vlog

Great vlog Vanessa i love you calm outlook on life and you special feeling for nature. Your art is great and you poetry is calming, glad you all made it through the storm . Maybe a short chain on your chimley cap and a small hook on the chimley to hook it to might save losing it next storm. Stay safe and well all of you, Ed 40 S of Vegas
Definitely, need a short chain! Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super rest of the week, take care🦋🌻
We have a chain holding the hat to the chimney, and a chain holding the chimney to the boat. I lost 2 hats before doing this! Regards Ian.

So beautiful Vanessa... Thankyou for sharing. Much love.. Xx

You always seem to capture nature in beautiful colour. Great video again this week and full of interesting facts.
That is so kind of you.Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care🌻🦋
Does it normally malfunction then? Thank you so much for watching. Take care 🦋🌻
When we are filling, the tank gives us a little bang, when it's nearly full then we get a big bang and water flows into the canal when it's totally full 👍
We don't know who devised this, but it's great 👍
That sounds like a great gauge that you've got there! Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super rest of the week, take care🦋🌻

Hi Steve, that must have been awful to have had no power or heat for a week; I hope that it's all sorted now. Well done for feeding the birds throughout the winter.Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a super week, take care🌻🦋
I thought that stretch of canal look familiar, I walk it most days, great videos.

Awwww lovely bird life and my even a snow drop so glad you made it safely through the storm we lost our large tree so sad grew from a foot high was about 25 foot I think took 18 years to grow sad no time to see another get that big but may still plant another in spring tc now the oldies 🤗🤗
Oh no, Anne your poor tree- you must have been so sad- 25ft! Perhaps you can have it chopped to lay out for insects and hedgehogs in your garden?Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend, take care🦋🌻
