- Powertrain : Detroit Diesel 6V92TA DDEC & Allison V731 transmission
Retired from LACMTA fleet in 2005
Owned and operated by Regional Transit Service ( Riverside, CA )
These buses also had their share of retrofits and modifications. These buses had ground-exhaust when delivered brand new. They were retrofitted to roof-exhaust when rehhabed around 1998/1999
On some Line 130 trips in 2012, just as I ended high school, I remember seeing the white buses with orange stripes. #130Lives #MetroLine130 #GoneButNeverForgotten
The 1990 Flxibles had the 6L71 engine in them. LACMTA ( SCRTD at the time ) had 71 in service ( 2800-2870 ). Culver City Bus Lines also had 6L71 powered flxibles ( 7050-7059 ) as well.
I damn near passed out from going crazy over this sound recording. OMFG, this Flxible ran just so RIGHT!!!
Some of these buses were retired late 2005.Last bus I rode was # 2910 on Line 176 back in January 2006. FTA has set the useful life of a 40ft transit bus for 12 years or 500,000 miles before eligible of retirement. Metro likes to run their buses a little longer than the recommended 12 years.
Yea Our 40 footers Have 10000000.or more
The 2900s ran until around late 2005/early 2006 when the 2005 NABIs ( 7525-7599 ) were being delivered. According to the owner of this bus, it has a DD 6V92 engine. The only MTA Flxys that had DD 6L71 engines were ( # 2800-2870 )
@ea90744 I wish an American bus manufacturer could start making a new Flxible Metro. They were my favorite buses.
Never heard a Flx Metro with 6V92TA Before. Genius!
I remember when these had their tailpipes under the bottom
Excellent bus man, The 6V-92TA and a METRO go perfect together! AWESOME Lil Bro! Just AWESOME! I remember the 2900's were in the Flxible sales brochures for "CLean Diesel" technology as they were delivered with Trap Oxidizers from the factory. Love it!
Love that 6V92 power. Awesome!
The interior looks amazing!
I rode in a Flxible Metro C on the 204 line on Vermont Avenue in Los Angeles. Fresno Area Express operated these buses when I moved to Fresno but after a while they were retired
Man, the 6v92TA sounds soft and smooth on this Flxible Metro Bus
2932 was pretty slow while in revenue service,I remember not only riding it,but,I got a chance to drive it while it was still in service with the mta,I do miss the flxibles, especially the 2500's!
2900-2932 had DD6V92/Allison
2801-2870 had DD6L71/Allison
2700-2764, 2500-2649 had Cummins L10/Voith
NOW THATS A FLXIBLE BEST BUSES MADE EVER!!!!!!!
wait time out time out!!! 1st: we still had flexys in '05?! and on top of that we had one with at 6v92TA? i thought all '92s had the 6LT71
@1985jon Regional Transit Service based out of Riverside County.
This sounds cool, But I prefer The Flxible Metros that have the Cummins L10 with Voith D863 transmissions. Transpo in South Bend, IN used to have 43 Metros, 87s & 91s.
Sounds just like 1991 Flx Metros from Chicago CTA and Lansing Michigan CATA's 1988/ 1990 Flx Metros as well.
They were slowly retired between 2002-2005
@1985jon No,it was sold at the auction after its retirement from revenue service.
I miss those Flexible buses here in Baltimore.
Been years seen i rode the'se back in the 90s when i was young
@Bmilesonline - lol me too. The pipes were retrofitted years later.
That is very true!
Cummins L10 diesel engine with the voith D863 automatic transmission it's a great combination but you can't beat the awesome sound like the 6v 92 Detroit diesels with the v731 Allison automatic transmission
Very powerful!
This is the Metro-D 40102-6T but is sound like them 1980 NYCT y Port Athourity fleet GM 780 coaches which have gotted the Detroit Diesel 6V71N supercharge engine Those coach all brakened down before 5 year were reach. Is crazy how this here DDEC 6V92TA is sounds like the old 6V71N power coaches plus also some GMC T8W-204 coach a well. Excellente!!!!!A+90000000Star!
so early ? these buses were about 14yrs old when they retired.
oh word....i thought the entire flx fleet was wiped out in late '01
I like the sound of the Cummins L-10 more, but this one sounds good, too!
The 2005 NABIs ( 7525-7599 series ) replaced these Flxibles...and a few 1988 TMCs with that as well.
before it was LACMTA it was named SCRTD back then the 1992 flxible metro 40102 6t it's a modern day version of the 870 adb buses with the 6v 92 DDEC with the v731 Allison automatic transmission I've wish to ride that bus but with the SCRTD theme like the grummanflxible 870 adb buses
Sound like CTA 1991 Flxible Metros 5300s
It has the amount of bass and power to them as well
man i miss the Flxibles
Scott Richards is right about the 2900s having the 6V92TA, so the CPTDB Wiki is wrong in regards to this fleet.
Yall also had 5 CNG 40ft Flxible C Buses, numbered NGV1-NGV5. What happened to them.
YESSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd like to find a 1995 Metro E without the rear doors and change it into a cool home on wheels and travel cross country.
CARTA has 94 Flxs without rear doors
@@JTProdigy
As had NJ Transit's Metro-D 3700s.
You can always seal off the rear doors!
and the 2900's had the Cummins L-10 right?
no metro got rid of them all only private bus companies have them i am a huge flxible metro fan to but metro got rid of theres the same time santa monica big blue bus and culver city did
This is like internet porn for me!
The 2800s did, not these.
Federal Transit Administration
I'm Sorry, But Flxible Metros Seem so out of place with the Detriot Diesel. It Is At Home With The Cummins L10
these would have looked pretty in rapid red, and yellow poppy, stupid lousy bureacratic MTA. if we didn't have lame brains there, then we would probably have retired them in 2010, as opposed to 2005!
I know right...what was so broke with them them that retirement was necessary?
