WTF happens in Person of Lordly Caliber ? | The Ogre Battle Saga | STORY EXPLAINED

- Hello everyone, in this video I will tell the full story of the game Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber.
The Ogre Battle saga is extremely dense and confusing for those who don't have a basic background, and even those who finish the game end up with some doubts.
So this video is for you who want to understand the full story, the main plot, the characters, in a simple and extremely didactic way.
00:01:44 The Creation
00:09:06 Reconstruction and the Covenant
00:12:18 Violent Northwest Air
00:23:56 Person of Lordly Caliber
01:11:23 Epilogue
Hope you like the video! If you like this saga like me, I invite you to subscribe to the channel, I make videos dedicated only to this saga that I bet you will like it too.

CORRECTION: at the end of the video, Baldwin was the one killed by Danika when she wakes up, the one who sees the birth of the baby and is killed by his power is General Kerikov.
What is your story with this game? Comment below!
LOVE this game. It has some little things that are not an improvement over the SNES game, like legions, but overall it's an even better title. The series does a great job of making you feel like not just a warrior, but a fantasy general. Also, thanks for the comment over on my Let's Play. Uploading #17 right now.
For the most part it was a good game, I thought it was too easy.
What I disliked from it tho is (coming from a TO LuCT player) the lack significant plot decisions up to the player, to make the story branch out in one way or another. Being forced to join the revolution annoyed me to some degree.
@@finalneuron499 yeah, ob64 is a step in the right direction, I hope they don't abandon this style of play in the future, there is no other game series with this mode
@@flambelk4489 I agree, difficulty is a problem in MOTBQ also because of how easy it is for you to get overpowered quickly with an army and destroy everyone with it. Magnus is very obedient, whoever talks more he follows hahaha
My first playthrough I got the bad ending because I had no idea Chaos Frame existed. The combat is relatively easy if you're cautious enough, but it's not about combat alone, troop loyalty among other things are important. I always enjoyed the different characters and paths the series has to offer for replayability.
It's a shame this game had such a limited reach. To be able to see the Zenobian heroes once more was amazing
Exactly!
This was the game that sold me on the franchise, played this when I was like 10 and beat it. Learned so much about politics and moral choices at a young age from it! Now i am going through Tactics Ogre for the first time, what an incredible story.
Indeed! Welcome aboard!
Watched the whole thing from start to finish. Didn’t skip a second.
It’s THAT good!
Ogre Battle 64 is a hidden gem of video games, a true masterpiece and with a lot of personality!
This was my first OB game and it's what made me fall in love with the series way back. Over the years I've replayed it several times and it's still one of my favorites to this day.
It really is a rare gem in the video game world!
This was my first Ogre Battle game and is still my favourite in the series. I love all of them, but this one holds a special place in my heart. I randomly rented it from Blockbuster one day because the game cover looked interesting with the dragon and the cross. Ended up having a friend come over to visit and we played it together, and he loved it so much he asked his mom to rent it for his birthday party (which I was invited to, along with two other of our friends for a sleepover). We played the hell out of it, even though we really had no idea what we were doing (no manual came with the game), and I don't think we even got to chapter 2, because we kept failing at certain parts and then we'd pass the controller so someone else could play.
I ended up renting it from Blockbuster multiple times over several years, but because of the way Blockbuster rentals worked, could only play it for three days. Never did end up finishing it before I had to return it, and every time I'd rent it again there'd be a completely different save file because someone else had started a new game over it.
Eventually I ended up forgetting about the game, and by this point PS2 had come out and I got really into that. Eventually Blockbuster was shutting down all operations and selling off pretty much everything, so you could rent anything and then at the end if you wanted to buy it instead you could. So I went to get Ogre Battle again, but sadly someone else had already bought it. I still hadn't completed the game.
I decided to resort to Ebay, where I won the bid on it, and got it for a rather fair price compared to all of the used game sellers in my area (I got it for $34, all the used game sellers marked it up to like $199+, was absolutely stupid). Finally I had it and completed the story on the lawful route. I had learned a lot about the game in the years prior to buying it, primarily from the GameFaqs forums; that was very likely why I was able to complete the Lawful ending with a 100 Chaos Frame on my first go. Was amazing how popular that specific board was for as long as it was. Even when a whole bunch of new games came out, even up to the PS3 era, the Ogre Battle 64 board on GFaqs was still popular and active. Heck there's even still some posts made there in the past few months. This game series has staying power and loyal fans. I've never quite seen anything like it since.
Hello! Thank you for the comment, your story is truly incredible and many, including me, can relate a lot.
OB64, despite being a hidden gem in the world of video games, seems to create a feeling of unity for all those who have played it at some point. It's very unique and has a lot of personality, I would say there's nothing like it in the industry today.
I'll be playing this work of art again at some point and posting it here on the channel, I hope to see you there so we can share this adventure together and with other fans!
It's always a good day when there's a new Warren Report video.
Oh thanks!
This was my first Ogre Battle game and still love it. Got the chaos ending first then followed some guides to get the lawful ending.
Me too! They could explain about Chaos Frame at least somewhere
Was crushed as a kid getting worst ending lol
This game was my first game ever and Wii sports. I'm a hardcore necrophiliac I wanted to play waw cod zombies but I didn't get it for the better. I love the music. The presentation it has. I didn't know squat in that game. I was 6 years old. In Chinese terms a failure. I only found out there were complicated mechanics when I was 19 reminiscing it and even now I still don't know what they do. The only thing I knew was there were undead and black knights with scythes. I loved spamming undead until I kept being turned to stone. Good times but those c##k monsters were a drag man.
This video was really good, you did a great job explaining what these games are about.
Now let's hope after the re-re-release of LuCT we get a new episodes of the Ogre Battle Saga, regardless of whether it's a TO format or an Ogre Battle format, it will be welcome.
Thanks! I hope the remake sells a lot and has more games, so I can make more videos!
Ogre Battle 64 was my first experience with the Ogre Battle Saga and immediately became my "defacto" favorite RPG series. I later got to playing Knights of Lodis on the GBA, and later March of the Black Queen and a little bit of Let Us Cling Together. I found it interesting that for this Warren Report, OB64 served to help show the exact locations of each region within the series' world (Galius, Holy Lodis Empire, Palatinus, Zenobia, Ovis, and Valeria).
Very well noted, there is no way to explain this game in isolation without the context of everything that is happening at the same time. Points to you for remembering the name of all the islands!
@@WarrenReport Could you do videos on each of the nation states inhabiting the Ogre Battle world?
My friend, I was 9 when this game came out and I played the shit out of this game! I always created a black knight group and a lich leader/netherworld group to dominate. A few years back I found a 64, and ogre battle just to play again. It's 2022 and I just restarted a campaign due to tactics ogre reborn. I'm so glad to find folks state side that love this game as much as I do, i thought i was alone. REMAKE PLEASE ENIX!!!
The Ogre battle fan club is huge but silent! We're here celebrating Reborn as the rebirth of the series, let's hope!
@@WarrenReport your channel rocks, I watched your video on the black queen plot. The world makes a lot more sense now being in lordly caliber. Also, I don't think there are any games aside from maybe final fantasy that have as in depth a story as Ogre battle... keep up the amazing work bro!
@@ashyguns8669 Thanks, you are very kind!
I always wanted someone to make a video like this, my favorite game of all time 🔥
Nice! I hope you liked the video
Ogre Battle hype!
Yea! One of the best!
This world and lore are so rich, only played luct and mobq(never understood the story on mobq b4 watching your video lol)and seeing the story of ALL the other games makes me love the entire series even more now
Yes, it's really exciting how the stories connect. More people need to know this saga!
Underrated series.
I totally agree
Totally.
FFT fanbois get upset when I say FFT has good story but OB saga blows it out of the water.
I’m a huge FFT fanboi, too.
Yeah I only learned of the Ogre Battle saga through this game and only because the 10 year old me saw this purple dragon with flames and decided to buy the game, not knowing any context, because I wanted dragons and I just 'promoted' from seeing only dinosaurs as cool.
A lot of Chaotic Endings later, with one Neutral-Chaotic/Neutral Ending later, I begun to have a sneaking suspicion there was more to the game and many years later did I talk with fellows of the Ogre Battle community to learn more and explore more. What an adventure...
Yeah, me too!
Hoping Ogre Battle MOTB and 64 make it to Nintendo's digital service
Me too!
I like the long backstory included in this video, sets the context for the story of the game proper.
Thanks! Im glad that you liked it! 🙌
This was my favorite N64 game, I've replayed through each ending multiple times attempting to collect every character I could
It's a real hidden gem of video games, it deserves more recognition!
I love this game so much, hopefully Tactics Ogre reborn does well enough to incentivize a remake of Person of lordly Caliber
🧙🏼♂️ Yes!!!
@@WarrenReport even if it’s just a port to the switch I desperately want to play this game again. It’s the king of RTS games in my opinion.
Amazing work on this, and all of the other OB videos you've made. Thank you so much!
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!
Awesome video. Thank you for posting. This is such an amazing game. The plotting and contradiction of the Glendale brother's relationship is my favorite part of the series. Richard both loved and wanted Baldwin to have the ultimate power. However, being the family patriarch, Richard felt he had to be both ice cold and draconian on Baldwin.
Couldn't agree more! Glad you enjoyed!
Such a good channel. So happy you put these together. My favorite series. Love the tease for Tactics Ogre. Can't wait for that one
Thanks! LUCT will be very special, you can bet
Sounds like we need a brand new Ogre Battles game against the Lodis Empire
Yeah! Revenge time!
Thoughts on first playing it? "Good lord these faeries suck, why did I agree to this again? Oh. Just lost a 4 game Mosquito Ironman to a Sphinx hiding in a barn while staring out a window, neat."
I hate those stonecold chickens
Outstanding channel, I always look forward to another great video from you. Keep up the great work!
thanks my friend, you are very kind 🌌
Such a good game overall, too bad we never saw the battle between Zenobia and Magnus going to take on the Lodis, another game with Ogre Battle 64 gameplay and story telling but this time its happening in the Lodis empire when its being invaded, it would have been epic.
Maybe someday we'll still have that, we need to have hope friend!
Very good story telling there. You covered all the important things very nicely.
I do have to point out that you made a minor mistake at the end. Danika delivers a mortal blow to Baldwin before she talks with Magnus. His dying words is what pushes her over the edge (basically he was begging for his life and the ultimate power). The man the reborn Rishadi kills is Kerikov. If you need to see it yourself there's a few low chaos frame ending videos here on UA-cam.
Regardless, I enjoyed the video. I'd probably play through the game again because of your video if I hadn't done so recently lol
In fairness, I think some very minor story liberties are necessary because of the conflicting requirements for recruiting characters.
For instance, I *think* in the Law Route Zeda comes in and stabs Yumil because there he's more clearly starting to renounce the path he's on (which is especially sad as he was literally forced to become evil in the first place and that he's killed as he's starting to overcome this is especially screwed up) and kidnaps Mari.
The Chaos Route scene is a lot more muddy and the video maker did the best he could interpreting the scene (even though I don't think this scene happens in Law...again I could be wrong).
When in doubt, the best thing to do is to play the game itself!
@@nangbaby People like to call it the low chaos frame route where that happens. I just call it the route where you say "..." at Fredrick's execution to avoid confusion. You don't actually have to have a low chaos frame to see Zeda kill Yumil on that route.
Baldwin is always killed by Danika regardless of your choices though. You just don't see Kerikov die unless you get one of the bad endings.
oh god...you're right! My memory tricked me, I was SURE it was Baldwin who found the baby demon, I didn't even remember that Kerikov existed hahaha Thanks for the correction!
@@nangbaby That part when Yumil dies can change a lot. I remeber one time that Ankiseth didn't join me (I agreed with the peace treaty and he didn't ask me for join), he says that he wants to search for Yumil alone. Then in this fight scene in Latium, Ankiseth reappear and was killed by Yumil.
One of the best games I ever played. I wish we would get a remake/remaster like tactics ogre reborn for it; with some added content, quality of life improvements and a difficulty adjustment or new difficulty modes (unfortunately the game can get too easy at times, that's its only flaw in my opinion)
It's a real hidden gem of the games, I hope to see a remake at some point!
This is still one of my favorite games of all time. I first rented it from 48 Hours and was enthralled. My parents probably spent several hundred dollars renting this for me over and over again. Eventually, I saved up money and ended up in a bidding war on eBay for a copy. It cost me over a hundred dollars. It was worth every penny. I've since bought it on both Wii and Wii U Virtual consoles, just in case.
Obviously, I got the low CF ending the first time. It took years for me to finally get together a full High-CF run. The system is a good one, its just too bad the game explains precisely nothing about it. I also think the alignment system is kind of garbage, but I can circumvent that with the item dupe glitch, so I don't mind it too much.
I found this game super difficult at first, but its pretty trivial now that I know what I'm doing (shout-out to Paul's level though, I still regularly have characters die on that map and basically no others). Its probably the best "build a badass army and roll over everything" simulator I've ever seen. It also holds the record of my longest "useful information" Google Doc I have on a video game at 20 pages long.
Minor correction: Rashidi kills Kerikov in the low CF ending, not Baldwin. Fantastic video though. Thank you!
Thank you my friend!
Really, my memory tricked me as I was SURE it was Baldwin in that ending, thanks for the correction, youre awesome!
@@WarrenReport Considering how many times Baldwin survives when he shouldn't previously, its an easy mistake to make.
I love what you’re doing. Thank you!!!
You are so welcome!
Good work. This video makes me want to play the game again, as there are some aspects of the story I clearly did understand.
I admit one downside of going to the Law route is that you don't get Biske La Veret. That really sucks because he's by far one of the better characters both gameplay and story-wise, and the most screwed up part of all is there's really no good reason to not to work things out with him. The people of the region didn't hate him (in fact that one nun who gave him an item was clearly fond of him) and basically he was only punished for what you were doing now, rebellion. Except he got the Prometheus torture and despite this, he still didn't break or turn savage. It would have been nice in a unified timeline to FORCE Ankiseth and Biske to work together and foster some forgiveness. Plus, I love this guy's "found item" quote - "Ouch! What the hell?"
Biske was a good boy.
I've got other thoughts but not enough time to write them!
I agree with you, Biske is a guy with a lot of personality, but he's kind of portrayed as someone evil, like some rebel soldiers who wanted revolution through violence like Xevec, not diplomacy like Frederick.
I highly doubt Ankiseth would be able to come to terms with him, due to his strong sense of justice. But who knows, right? Will they change that in a future remake maybe? hahaha
Who came here after getting into Unicorn Overload?????
So excited that much of the game style of Orge battle is in Unicorn Overload!
Yeah!
Great video as always

Man, this was SO good, Sage Warren 😊 Thank you ! That Sardian is a real menace on the world, I can now see…
Thanks friend, im glad you enjoyed!
Maybe means raishdi? I don’t see how being a mage on an army liberating people who were superseded is menacing but to each’s own.
I would wish, that this one here was remade. Like on PC, Switch and PS4/5. I played it back in the day on my N64, but I can't bring myself to play it on that anymore. The only bright side is that Vanillaware comes with Unicorn Overlord, which looks similar to this. I hope it is as deep as well.

Hello budy, how are you? Glad you liked it
@Warren Report I have covid, but fully vaxed and boosted, so it's not too bad. I've been spending my quarantine playing TO Reborn and watching your videos. Hopefully, we will see an OB reborn.
i'm really missing this type of tactical/strategy rpg...
Ogre battle is really unique in the gaming world, there is nothing even like it
Awesome video! I was lucky enough to have played both Ogre Battle games as a kid, and wish someone else would step into this space. Is Diofield Chronicle a good substitute OB?
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! I'm not familiar with this game, so I can't recommend it. But nothing replaces ogre battle!
The answer is a totally NO, say Diofield Chronicle as substute is like say final fantasy or fire emblem is also a subsitute
i can understand both are tactical RPG and both have real time positioning, but in ogre battle you have many entire armies, figthing multiple objectives, not 4 single characters (maybe 8) across a scenary
the unique game i felt similar ogre battle is "heroes of might and magic" which is not even the same gender as ogre battle :( i also really wonder will exist a good remake/continuation or even a substitute for ogre battle in the future
Der Langrisser is an okay substitute to ogre battle or fire emblem. But nothing compares.
Ive loved this game since release but it's hard to get into these days. The chaos frame mechanic punishes new players and the way alignment works punishes everyone who refuses to duplicate Urns of Chaos
It could have been better explained and implemented, but the idea itself is very interesting!
Nooo lol im excited for this but still waiting for LUCT
I still need to play that one through...
We finally arrived at LUCT, you can rest assured that it will be the next story video now my friend!
Let LUCT have a rest xD its the most known and popular of the series ❤ Let the less known have some participation 🤣👍
Great video! Just played through for the second time, first time was over 20 years ago. Is this your voice or is this an AI voice?
Both!
Wait how is it both? You used your own voice in the program instead of organically speaking the script?
What an incredible amount of work you've put into this. March of the Black Queen was my favorite SNES game back in the day as a young teen, and this game, while I never got to play it as much (joined the Army in 99), was a very worthy sequel.
How did you develop the world maps you use? I can't find anything that puts all of the lands together.
Not work my friend, that's called love! ha ha ha
Soon I'll be making a gameplay of this game, I hope you'll follow this journey along with me!
The "world map" of the saga was created by me, using maps from the games and information about where each thing is... I believe it facilitates the visualization of the whole story that way
@@WarrenReport You made the big world map yourself? That's even more impressive. It really does help visualize things when you realize the entirety of Tactics Ogre took place in a fairly small land compared to Xenobia or Lodis. And I like the 'additional' lands you added I think in the 'Hidden Lore' video.
Amazing work, all around. These WTF videos especially are top notch.
Yes, I created the map mainly to facilitate the WTF videos, a lot of people didn't know about the connectivity of many places there... while others I had to rely on descriptions and other details to put on the map
I'm preparing a WTF that will literally create a WTF in everyone's head!
man.....ogre battle saga so complicated......matsuno so crazy makes story like this
It's complex yes, even if we had a youtube channel that could help by explaining it in an easy way...
Ya know, when I first played this, I assumed Lodis was a Catholic Church analogue (because everything was), but the general arc of the story fits Islam to a tee. The slavery and dhimmi caste system are particular standouts.
Exact!
Me too lol, i think It was mix between the two
I love this game so much, but its emulation is SO HARD to get it right! How I miss the n64
Yeah, me too
I hope they release all the ogre battles on switch
Lets hope!
what is TRUE FAITH buy staying true to your own beliefs until the very end....
Game of Thrones could have a rival story wise.
I’m curious to find out if GRRM knew anyone from development while he was in his New Mexico hole.
While I do like this game, it's messaging is a bit wonky. Making Frederick King at the end seems extremely weird, considering the whole goal of the revolution was to abolish the class system. Shouldn't Palatinus have become a Republic or something? Also lol he conveniently croaks at the end so Magnus can be King. It's just a very toothless message of "there's nothing wrong with the system, it will all be better if the kings are good people. Get rid of the bad king and put in a good king, don't actually change how anything is run."
You are right, but if we take into account that the theme of the game is medieval, all kingdoms at that time had the obligation of a king as ruler, the idea of a republic is not even mentioned. What is said is that Frederick was a good king and that he never sat on the throne, precisely to symbolize that he was a person like the others. This dichotomy of good people/bad people is very present in this saga
@@WarrenReport There's a first time for everything, right? PoLC is a very Roman story, and Frederick is essentially Gaius Octavius - a ruler who was benevolent and loved by the people, but when he died the system went right back to being corrupt because he didn't fundamentally change how anything worked; it relied completely on the person in power being benevolent like he was.
@@Aogami20 I didnt know that! Thanks for the info! 🧙🏼♂️
Wait so question, You say at the end the Baby from Mari attacks/kills Baldwin??? In my playthrough the baby at the end attacks the General that was ruling over the eastern church (or tried to before the priest took it back from him) But we NEVER see Baldwin again after Danika transforms due to his hatred? Am I wrong here? Cause I'm very confused.
You are correct, Baldwin was supposedly killed by Danika when she wakes up, the one who sees the birth of the baby and is killed by his power is General Kerikov, I confused these two characters when I was making the end of the video, I apologize!
Where did you get the source for the Lodis Empire map?
Cheers!
A random map on google...I used as a basis the descriptions that Lodis was bigger than all other regions, it was connected with the map of Ovis (Tactics Ogre Knight of Lodis) , connected with Palatinus (Ogre Battle 64 Person of Lord Caliber ) and north of Valeria (Tactics Ogre Let us Cling Together)

unironically not gay enough. half of Magnus/Yumil's motivation is not being strong enough to help/protect their boyfriend.
Also F for my boy Carth, didn't even get a mention
yeah, you can see a bromance there in a way. But since Mari was pregnant then...Yumil likes women! Unfortunately Carth died in that version of the story, unfortunately.
@@WarrenReport oh no, Yumil may have been bi, but Magnus is as clear of a representation of a gay character as you could possibly get back in the day. the emphasis of his relationship with Yumil, the lack of a romantic interest in spite of Meredia and Leia's scene with him after Count Silvis's chapter, etc
@@alexsnewhandle you have a point. But in my opinion it is more asexual than gay, like someone forged in war.
