Interesting. Never heard of this game before. Apparently it's release was done in a similar fashion to LUCT and KoL where the 'prequel' came after. Very random side note, you are the voice of Warren in my head now. Lol. Can't change it.

You know what I find interesting? Balder and Shaher are antitheses.
Prince of Zenobia and Knight of Lodis are both Gaiden games. The main antagonist of Knight of Lodis is a fallen angel. Balder meanwhile is an agent of the netherworld. Shaher is basically presented as a satanic figure despite his origins as an angel, while Balder meanwhile is presented somewhat of a messianic figure despite his origins in the Netherworld.

@@WarrenReport Yeah - additionally, Balder is all about how "Things will remain as they are with peace, as it is in the underworld". Which is something people oft associate with heaven. (...okay, Megaten that is.)
These videos have been very helpful for establishing a chronology of the Ogre Battle saga thus far. Albeit each entry has multiple endings, there are some particular events between them that sort of lay out what could be considered an unofficial "canon" timeline. So far thanks to in-game lore, and videos such as this (awesome by the way), I believe the timeline goes something like this,
The Knights of Lodis >>> Prince of Zenobia > The March of the Black Queen >?> Let Us Cling Together (23 yrs after Knights of Lodis) | Person of Lordly Caliber

I would put something like > knight of lodis (ogre battle and mermaid war) > march of the black queen (eldora rising) > prince of zenobia > knight of lodis (alphonse story) and march of the black queen (destin story) very close > 64 (magnus story) and tactics ogre (denim story) very close too.
But i will think more about it! That is a great idea for a video.
Have binged each of these twice by now - Fell in love with the Ogre Series when I was a kid, rented it non stop from the local video store until one day I mysteriously "misplaced it" and offered to pay them back for it - best $150 I ever spent

This is, like, the lost treasure of the Ogre Battle Saga.
Since this game was never even unofficallly translated and was for niche console, this game. I remember trying to piece together the story from a Japanese-language site that was translated by a really old version of Google translate...but I could not make heads or tails of it. I thank you for putting this together.
Other notes:
-I burst out laughing when you used Porkyus's sprite as Floran. It's funny because in TKoL when looking at the history of the ruling family and the spear that was being sought, human/mermaid breeding was one rumor firmly *dismissed* by the characters.
-I had heard of Bakhim, but I didn't know he was a former Zenobian soldier. He had a backstory similar to a very minor character I had an idea for.
-Gameplay wise, I think there were some unique classes for this game, like an exorcist wielding a whip...maybe? I never played the game but the field sprite I saw at least looked unique.
-Balder sounds more interesting than Rashidi, and some of his lines seem to echo those of the Ogre Battle 64 final boss (not saying the name due to spoilers).
Yeah, this was a challenge to put the pieces together, but I'm glad you liked it.
Balder is a fantastic villain, precisely because he plays with the protagonist's morals and actions other than just strength. Maybe thats why Tristan became a good king, he had to go through these questions and challenges before.
The story is way better than I expected. It's really sad it was never released internationally or ported. Perhaps with the Tactics Ogre remake, we can get this and MOTBQ rereleased.

That was actually very interesting, while I knew of Ogre Battle Gaiden existence, I thought the plot was some sort of adaptation of March of the Black Queen, rather than a different game.

This is great! I never knew of the existence of Prince of Zenobia till about a year and a half ago. Thank you for the detailed story progression of what happen and of the multiple ending details in the other video. While I am slightly lamenting that I may not play the game nor be willing to invest time into it. At least I have some idea of what transpires in that gaiden game. Thank you!

Very cool. I knew about the game, but the subtitle threw me off - from it, I surmised it was a parallel, but unrelated story to Destin 's campaign, but that not being the case is more interesting. Will you cover the other routes eventually?
I don't think buddy, unlike Let us Cling Together, the other routes of the other games have minimal differences, only changing one or another character that can be recruited. For this reason I made the videos teaching how to get each ending of each game, and in these same videos I have already commented on which characters each route allows to recruit and the explanation of the different endings. Prince of Zenobia has a video of this too, just look here on the channel!
@@WarrenReport Thank you, I must have missed the video! I agree with what you said that the World ending seems to be the canonically correct one in the games. Still, in March of the Black Queen, personally, I would pursue the Emperor Ending myself, if I were in Destin's shoes.

Hi! So far there are 5 official games in the Ogre Battle saga which are: Knight of Lodis, The March of the Black Queen, Prince of Zenobia, Person of Lordly Caliber and Lets us Cling Together.
KoL and LUCT are tactical rpgs and the other 3 are in the classic base control format.

I wonder what happened to the other characters in POZ ? Are they considered dead before the OB:MOTBQ ? Because there’s no mention of them including his step brother Cain.
In most games it is said that at the end of the story, either the characters serve as the king's personal guard, or return to their villages. In the case of POZ it is even more difficult to know, since the title has not been translated into the West.
From what I remember back playing MotB, there was an NPC that used the generic hooded NPC sprite that was just labeled as "Valet" who gave a hint on meeting and recruiting Tristan; and off the top of my head, Cain's class is Varlet, which is where we get the modern word "valet", so the implication is that the hooded NPC that hinted at Tristan was Cain.
Tristan is from March of the black queen, right?
