I don't think there's ever been a more honest, heartfelt tribute to a friend ever written. People who are considered great songwriters don't even touch this.
Let’s be honest, besides using farley’s death as a pedestal to sway his audience and career because Sandler hasn’t done shit in years His career has completely turned to shit.
Cars &Such no shame in it. I heard about Farley passing right when I was pulling into the driveway. I sat in the car and cried for about 5 minutes before I went into my own damn house.
People can say all they want about Sandlers films and his habit of including his buddies in them, but this is one of the few genuine actors in Hollywood. Love this song and how sincere it is. He loved Chris.
Frankly, I think Chris is a big reason Why he became like this. Regarding his friends in movies I mean. After losing one of his best friends, he wants to make sure they get a hangout every so often. Being in Hollywood that is Hard because of schedules. So he solved it by hiring his friends. "Kevin, David, Chris (rock) and I haven't seen each other of 6 months. This won't do!" *proceeds to make a movie so HE Is part of their Hollywood schedule* LOL! It's brilliant and sweet! 💖
What's even sadder is that we all have our own Chris. Someone who the party just isn't the same without. Prayers to everyone for those who are gone. ♥️♥️
@@billsutherby He is. Sometimes. Don't get me wrong, his performance here was awesome. Sandler definitely knows his crafts and isn't without many awesome talents and admirable qualities. Having a bad day isn't a justification for treating people like shit. Especially when the people taking the brunt of his antics are everyday regular people working simple jobs just trying to make ends meet. You'd think a person with such wealth and fame would realize this if he were a decent human.
Bro we all loved Farley. He was the absolute goat. Farley, Sandler and spade together were a power trio. But no one will ever be funnier, better and more genuine that farley
@@lilgruvyskrrrt I think cause unlike most actors and comics who work on their craft, theres people like Farley and Robin William's where their craft was just them taking the reins off and being free. Makes me fucking cry just thinking about it.
I was too young for Candy and I wasn't born when Belushi died. I was a 10 year old chubby kid who absolutely loved Chris Farley. The day he died, I was absolutely crushed and I can still recall my parents hugging me over it. The first time I saw this, I instantly turned into that 10 year old boy and wept. Still miss that dude. RIP to a legend.
I didn't even really know him and only recognized the name as a comedian and from the buzz around his death, but even this song made me cry. You can really feel the love and just genuine true friendship they had. Not many people get to have that kind of friendship, especially the later into age you get, so it's even more beautiful
I don't know why your comment moves me so. Perhaps because it feels like that he achieved exactly what he wanted. He became to you what Belushi was to him. That's really cool and some solace for his short and brilliant life.
it's amazing how sandler, spade, rock and farley stayed friends after snl and supported each other on the big screen. that was true friendship especially in hollyweird where everybody backstabs each other.
Say what you want about Adam Sandler but the dude takes care of his friends. That's why the same guys are always in his movies. If I knew nothing else about Sandler, that would be enough to get my utmost respect.

For real like the perfect line for a lost but not forgotten best friend. This whole thing is just the definition of a proper tribute for a comedic friend.
Heard this last night while he was in San Antonio and I bawled. My father, who passed suddenly last year, loved Farley. Tommy Boy used to be our favorite movie. I showed this to my wife some time ago and she surprised me with tickets and said, “I know how much you want to hear that song live.” It was so cathartic. What a beautiful way to honor a fallen friend.♥️🙏🏽
God bless you, my friend. My aunt, who I was very, very close to loved Adam Sandler this song reminds me of so much of her. She passed away, but whenever I listen to it, I get wonderful memories of her. I say this with great respect and kindness. I'm sure your dad was looking down and enjoying the show right with you. God bless you, my friend 🙏 ✝️ P.S. They're not gone forever. They just went home. We'll be with them again one day. Jesus is life everlasting. 🙏
I am not sure but when my brother passed away who's name was also Chris. The hardest thing was watching my dad cry. This song is probably sandlers best work. It hits us all for different reasons
A few years ago a co-worker passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at age 58. Besides the shock of it, the hardest thing for me was seeing the grief of his parents. Made my heart hurt and my eyes leak. His father and brother-in-law came in to pick up his personal items and the father wanted to see his desk. He went by my desk on the way, turned to me, I could see he still looked shell-shocked, started talking about how one minute everything was fine, the next thing the mother was calling out to the father, trying to pick him up from the floor (he had suffered a massive stroke), they called the ambulance, took him to the hospital, they thought everything was going to be fine, and then it wasn't - it was all I could do not to burst into tears at work hearing/seeing that at the time. Still shed a tear thinking about it.
The chris's dad part really gets me, one of my best friends kill himself this year, and at the funeral i remember watching his dad trying not to cry, when i look at him i just burst into tears, i can understand that feeling
We tell him slow down, you’ll end up like Belushi and Candy”. He said”, those guys are my heroes. So it’s fine and dandy”. That part..got me right in my feelings.
Sandler put that line in the song because it's something that Farley would often repeat --- his friends became concerned because he seemed to wanna die young with all his reckless boozing and drug use --- he was trying to copy his hero Belushi to the grave
I have absolutely no doubt he thinks about that, he would of had a badass part in Hubie Halloween. This song really hits home for me because ice lost so may friends to stupid shit and I can tell he truly cared about his best friend 💞💞
@@morganmeadows9603 Oh yeah he would of either played the priest or the sheriff, that would of been epic. I know what it's like to lose a friend so this song hits home.

"Then he laughed and said. Just thinking about my Dad." Hits home. Especially through a song. All (if not most) comedians are trying to mask some kind of pain.
I lost my Dad 4 days before Christmas in 2022 and this part of the song hits me every time I hear it. It's like a piece of you is missing and you can't get it back.
The saddest thing about Farely is that he never really knew how much he meant to people. I remember hearing a story about someone telling him he was one of the funniest comedians they had ever seen and he replied with something along the lines of "in the end they just wanna see the fat guy fall down." You meant the world to a lot of people Mr.Farley, I hope you get to see that now wherever you are.
He never understood that he was so much more than "the fat guy". Yeah, he would poke fun at himself and would joke about his weight on occasion, but 90% of his comedy had nothing to do with his weight and would have worked just as well if he were skinny. Kevin James on the other hand, really _is_ nothing more than "the fat guy". That's his entire shtick. He eats too much, he can't hide behind things, he gets stuck in places, and he falls down. He really doesn't have anything else, and it just gets old really quick. I can't help but feel like the only reason Kevin James ever got famous at all was because Chris Farley wasn't around anymore.
As sad as Chris’s passing was, I find comfort in the fact that his dad didn’t spend too much time away from his son before seeing him again (Chris’s father passed in ‘99) Made up for some lost time I suppose.
@@mrlucasfilms lol you find comfort in the fact that his dad died not long after? I mean, there may or may not be a heaven, but it’s prob safe to assume that Chris’ mother and brother likely didn’t feel very comforted when they lost him 2 years later

I can’t imagine how tough it was for Sandler to write and perform this tribute. It’s a late but bittersweet eulogy from an amazing friend. Sandler kept being successful and helped his friends along the way, yet couldn’t do the same for his best friend Farley. That’s a tough pill to swallow. This video and the multiple crowd reactions have immortalized Chris Farley as a legend.
I'm 56. I've listened to this song 100 times and I still get emotional. Wisdom always brings clarity. On a side note, who knew Sandler could shred like that???

"The saddest people always try their hardest to make people happy because they know what it’s like to feel absolutely worthless and they don’t want anyone else to feel like that." (Robin Williams) --- Thank you Adam Sandler for this touching tribute to your friend 🌺
I loved Robin Williams. And he was spot-on with that quote. Depressed people are the only ones who know the torment of being perpetually sad. So if we see someone suffering emotionally we pick right up on it. We identify with the pain. So of course we're more likely to try to pull you out. Depression is something you don't wish upon anybody.
The loneliest people are the kindest. The saddest people smile the brightest. The most damaged people are the wisest. All because they don't wish to see anyone else suffer the way they did. Not sure who said this but, relevant. There is happiness in sadness, take care guys.

Never got a bad vibe off Sandler. Seems like Adam is the friend we all wish we had. Loyal, mourning over 20 years later, wrote an entire song for him, and never stops loving.
He’s incredibly sincere with everyone. It’s the person everyone says they’d be if they became rich. Chris Farley was the same. Money didn’t seem to change him at all. He always wanted to make others smile.
Imagine how many times sandler had to have performed this song alone in his basement before he could get through the whole song without stopping to cry. I bet 30-50 times. I'm sure he had to have practiced it a lot before he could perform it and hold himself together at the same time.
Yeah he must have so he would not break down doing the song on stage people say you must move on but from experience we never really do we never forget the ones we lose we think about them everyday until they day we can be with them again
he performed an edited version of this tribute when he hosted SNL last. He said it was almost impossible to do, being in the same room, seeing some of the same faces that knew him too. You can find it on youtube, it's obvious he barely got through it
“A few months later the party came to an end we flew out to Madison to bury our friend.” I was good until he said that. Shit hit ya right in the heart.
Hearing David Spade talk about why he didn’t go to the funeral hurts. I think at one point he said “I couldn’t bear to be in a room where Chris was in a box.”
I don't know. The following line "Nothing was harder than saying goodbye except watching Chris's father have his turn to cry" was a really painful line. Imagine burying your son.
“Nothing was harder than saying goodbye except watching Chris’ father have his turn to cry.” Having experienced watching a best friends father mourn at his funeral, this really hit hard. Really really hard.
My own adopted mom passed away this past March 18th. I never saw my Dad so broken before, it was devastating. I told him he is the strongest person I've ever known. I recorded a few songs in tribute to my Mom on my UA-cam channel here with my band Exalted Marauder. I miss Chris Farley as well. I'm so glad I went to the movies to see Beverly Hills Ninja when it came out (I was in 9th or 10th grade at the time I think). Much love to Adam Sandler for this tribute.
@@culcre makes you wonder if burying his son had a part of it. It sounds like something out of bad literature but the idea of dying of a ‘broken heart’ has some validity to it.
Kristin Wood It’s how he expresses himself (difficult for him to talk on serious notes without deflecting with humour, so this is both therapeutic for him & great for him to pay tribute for the audience/himself).
Chris was like a comet. Only here for a little while. Blazing across the sky and grab on to that tail for a wild ride. Then gone. What a great talent. RIP Chris.
It makes me wonder if Kevin James would be in it though. I’m sure that he wouldn’t say it but it must make him a little bitter that he’s only landed a couple of his roles due to the death of one of Adams late friends. Just saying that James’ role would be obsolete as the token fat&funny guy if Farley was already cast.
Kevin James isn't in the movie just to play that role. He is in it because he's an incredible actor and they are friends who work together often. Their production team wanted to make a movie and I am sure built the characters around the actors they wanted to included. It isnt because there wasn't another "overweight guy" to choose from. Also it's not a certain role that once filled would exclude others. the main cast would just include more actors and each of them having a role, whether they play the similar character types or creating of new characters. There isn't a limit. It's not like okay we got one (a race or gender or body type) so now that's it and we can't add any more. There are 2 "short" characters(height mentioned in the movie, not my observations). Why can't there be two heavier set men. Another note, his character isn't even playing a stereotypical "overweight" character. They mention it like once or twice in a one liner joke, other than that his role is regular family man! I hope this didn't come off as angry/rude I was trying to make it seems as little aggressive as possible :):):) To clarify for myself: I hate that I had to write overweight and heavy set to make my point because they it feels insulting to focus on appearance over talent or the individual/personality as a human being. Just wanted to put that out there in case I offend anyone.
Sanam Ketabi you do realize that Grown UPS was created to reunite the cast of SNL. Every character, besides Kevin James was on that cast with Adam and Farley. Chris Rock, David Spade ect. Sure Adam three in some of his buddies. But the primary cast was designed to reunite that special group. I’m sure non of them would admit it, tell this song. Kevin James role was supposed to be Chris Farley. Hands down believe it in my soul.
This is so touching and absolutely THE tribute that Chris deserves. Adam is such a stand-up friend. Thanks for allowing us to remember, laugh, and cry inside with you.
This is the sweetest dedication he could give his friend. He misses him so much, it’s so heartbreaking. I sometimes think about what the Grown Ups movies would be like with him in them.
I got to see him perform this song live. Not a dry eye in the house. He was doing a show with Nick Swardson, Rob Schneider, David Spade. The night was filled with so much laughter. Sandler was the headliner. He performed this song last. By the time the song was over, everybody was standing with tears running down their cheeks. Anybody that knows Sandler, knows Farley. Swardson, Schneider, Spade and Sandler. A once in a lifetime lineup. A night I’ll never forget. RIP Farley.
@Kevin Prima Me too. Ill never forget coming home for Christmas break from college and as soon as I open the door dad says "Chris Farley is dead". I was stunned and watched the news coverage with my mouth hanging open. I had no idea about his addictions
I feel like he would have been kickin' wing. I can imagine him being a "native american' selling fireworks and giving grief to spade for thinking he looked like no native american he'd ever seen.
I have a 2yr old and I can't wait to show her Chris' comedy someday. The only downside will be when she's old enough to understand he's no longer with us.
For me it’s the grownups 3 line. Maybe it’s selfish of me, but imagining all of the things Chris would have done if he never died makes me so sad that I won’t ever know them
This is honestly one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to. RIP Chris. I hope you’re playing pool with Candy and Belushi right now.
This was so beautiful. I actually cried. Because THIS is a real tribute to a friend by a musician. It's a real mix of the best parts of a person and all the things other people who knew them less loved them for. It's incredible. And it's familiar. If some of us could write a song about our losses, we would. And they would sound like this if they were genuine. RIP Chris Farley- he didn't deserve to be laughed at, just laughed with.
I think for me it's just that reminder that, as much as the world loved him and the legend he was and is, at the end of the day, he was still someone's kid like the rest of us. He kind of overshadowed his own humanity.
Literally watched the “Somebody Kill Me Please” scene from The Wedding Singer just before watching this and was already thinking that....even if he was just acting it out.
what makes you think theres another side? its clear we as people so badly want there to be. that's why theres been thousands of religions created over the span of time. you have literally zero evidence to think theres "another side" yet you said it like it's a for sure thing.. stop being weak and realize nobody knows until you die if theres something else. but yea Farley was the man.

I cry literally every time I listen to this. Chris Farley had such a huge impact on my humor as a kid. Me and my brother watched all of his movies probably 300 times each when we were younger and I can't make it through this without breaking.
I loved Farley too. I break because my parents are gone and I’m not even 30. The mortality of it all is touching. Especially the parts about Farley and his dad.
Right with you Cody. My cousins and I used to try imitation the Motivational speaker sketch for the family when we were still single digits. It took me years to realize he was such a hero to us.

Personally I love it. It's one of the things I really respect about Adam Sandler. His loyalty to his friends.
I am not a huge fan of Sandler's movies, but as a man and a friend he is top notch. We should all have as good a friend as Adam Sandler.

Same..my heart every time.
Etched a scar in my soul too
Same here
A few years ago a co-worker passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at age 58.

Sandler put that line in the song because it's something that Farley would often repeat --- his friends became concerned because he seemed to wanna die young with all his reckless boozing and drug use --- he was trying to copy his hero Belushi to the grave

Kristin Wood It’s how he expresses himself (difficult for him to talk on serious notes without deflecting with humour, so this is both therapeutic for him & great for him to pay tribute for the audience/himself).
Farley, gone way too damn soon. hope he's on the other side Livin in a van down by a river
Phil Hartman has got to be in his heart too. Great tribute to Chris Farley. I teared up first and every time
I can't get over this Belushi and Candy line. "Those guys are my heroes it's all fine and dandy." It haunts me.
Right in the feels
Candy wasn’t really the party type actually
@@insaneclownhoty he meant his over love for food
He ain't making that shit up that the truth about his boy Chris Farley 😭😭😭😭😭
Candy did alot of coke actually. Yes he did party in his own way
"Hey buddy, life's moved on but you still bring us so much joy". My heart swells with that one.
Legends never die. They live forever in our minds, in our hearts, and in a van down by the river.
VCJunkie they do overdose tho

Farleys up there somewhere, eatin government cheese an rollin doobies
Chris was like a comet. Only here for a little while. Blazing across the sky and grab on to that tail for a wild ride. Then gone. What a great talent. RIP Chris.
I cant even imagine how even more hilarious grown ups would have been with Chris Farley!!
I hope this didn't come off as angry/rude I was trying to make it seems as little aggressive as possible :):):)
To clarify for myself: I hate that I had to write overweight and heavy set to make my point because they it feels insulting to focus on appearance over talent or the individual/personality as a human being. Just wanted to put that out there in case I offend anyone.
Now that you mention that I wonder if Sandler would've included Farley in Chuck & Larry if he were still alive
Saturn Bolt Farley would be in a lot more movies. Chuck and Larry as well. It’s kinda messed up BUT it’s the cold hard truth of the matter.
One of the most beautiful tributes a friend can ever make someone....and 20years later too. Such good friends
This is so touching and absolutely THE tribute that Chris deserves. Adam is such a stand-up friend. Thanks for allowing us to remember, laugh, and cry inside with you.
I was gonna say the same thing. I second your comment!
RIP Farley.
John Holland wish I could have been there. I teach middle school and I am slowly introducing them to Farley
Couldnt even imagine ! Legend
beyond jealous
@Kevin Prima Me too. Ill never forget coming home for Christmas break from college and as soon as I open the door dad says "Chris Farley is dead". I was stunned and watched the news coverage with my mouth hanging open. I had no idea about his addictions
I would of killed to be there!!!! How amazing!
Farley and Spade. Imagine the 20 plus years of buddy films that could have been.
@Captain Brandon Punk & Horror Lover Spade was the perfect straight man. Chris was great always. Even in Almpst Heroes, he was getting better.
He would have play the car salesman or buffalo bob in joe dirt.
@@nickhelm1106 Nah, he would of been the DMV guy.
I feel like he would have been kickin' wing. I can imagine him being a "native american' selling fireworks and giving grief to spade for thinking he looked like no native american he'd ever seen.
I literally think about this at least once a week, Chris had limitless potential and spade was his perfect foil
Adam Sandler is a stand up guy these are the kind of friends you want won’t let you be forgotten
This song gets me every time. You would think I personally knew Farley. RIP!!!!
When he didn’t want to cry, he made his guitar cry. Much respect for you, Adam.

logan clarke it’s almost like his guitar gently wept
Nothing hits harder than when his kids ask, "'who's the funniest guy you ever knew?' I say, 'without a doubt it's you,'"
What gets me is "we'd tell him slow down, you'll end up like Bellucci and Candy. He said those guys are my heros, that's all fine and dandy."
I have a 2yr old and I can't wait to show her Chris' comedy someday. The only downside will be when she's old enough to understand he's no longer with us.
For me it’s Chris’ dad having his turn to cry
For me it’s the grownups 3 line. Maybe it’s selfish of me, but imagining all of the things Chris would have done if he never died makes me so sad that I won’t ever know them
“Life aint the same without you boy” was it for me
This is honestly one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to. RIP Chris. I hope you’re playing pool with Candy and Belushi right now.
He is
Chris Farley John Candy Belushi and Adam Sandler would of been great in a movie together.
@@dustincobb5718 I know bro I always said this too. Candy and Farley together omfg
doubtful
This was so beautiful. I actually cried. Because THIS is a real tribute to a friend by a musician. It's a real mix of the best parts of a person and all the things other people who knew them less loved them for. It's incredible. And it's familiar. If some of us could write a song about our losses, we would. And they would sound like this if they were genuine. RIP Chris Farley- he didn't deserve to be laughed at, just laughed with.
"Nothin was harder than saying goodbye, except watching Chris's father have his turn to cry"
idk why but that line opened the floodworks for me
I think for me it's just that reminder that, as much as the world loved him and the legend he was and is, at the end of the day, he was still someone's kid like the rest of us. He kind of overshadowed his own humanity.
Same.
Same I was bawling my eyes out immediately. I was doing fine before that part
Are we not gonna talk about how Adam Sandler is insanely good at guitar
Literally watched the “Somebody Kill Me Please” scene from The Wedding Singer just before watching this and was already thinking that....even if he was just acting it out.
Listen to his old comedy albums. He's been making good music since the 90s.
Well hes got tons of albums
He was inspired by the best (dave mathews)
@@redfiveroe1138 I really wish he would get back to those comedy albums. i miss those

Without a doubt.
This song makes me cry so much. Chris a legend
Instant tears. RIP Chris Farley. Hope the other side is treating you well.
what makes you think theres another side? its clear we as people so badly want there to be. that's why theres been thousands of religions created over the span of time. you have literally zero evidence to think theres "another side" yet you said it like it's a for sure thing.. stop being weak and realize nobody knows until you die if theres something else. but yea Farley was the man.
@@trav-c137 more like an absolute buzzkill. It's just a phrase dude, stfu.

Who's we? Know body cares what you think, can't you just listen and appreciate the song without feeling the need to try to include yourself?
Kevin Prima lol, he means "I'm a subscriber" that's in Spanish "soy sub". But yeah there are plenty of ignorants that think they can hurt somebody with childish insults like that.

Yeah
I cry literally every time I listen to this. Chris Farley had such a huge impact on my humor as a kid. Me and my brother watched all of his movies probably 300 times each when we were younger and I can't make it through this without breaking.
I loved Farley too. I break because my parents are gone and I’m not even 30. The mortality of it all is touching. Especially the parts about Farley and his dad.
@@Christopher-ms5ke holy shit dude. Same. My mom od'd when I was 7 and diabetes got my dad when I was 20.

The love and loyalty Adam shows to all his friends is truly amazing.
