Why You Should NOT Feed Your Dragon in its Cage

- Recently, someone asked us why we recommend feeding bearded dragons insects in a separate enclosure.
Well, here is why and a great tip to make feeding insects a breeze. Also remember to gut load your insects prior to feeding them to your dragon. The brand that we use and recommend is available on eBay right here:

The most important piece of your reptiles habitat.
The health and well being of your pet depends on having the right environment. Don't trust it to cheap gauges that come in pet store "kits". We have 3 of those side by side and they NEVER give the same readings. We have used the V.E. brand thermostats for years without problems, and how been found accurate when tested.
Most feeding and other health problems can be avoided when the environmental needs are met.
This is how we take the guess work out of our dragons environment:

You've got a dragon trying to be dominant to you in the background, lol
Crystal Smith lmaoooooo
Ahah I noticed that
The dragon I got from you still knows your voice. He tilts his head and listens when your videos come on and then goes nuts looking for you.
That's cool. They are very smart.
Love the beardies in the background photobombing you!!! Thanks for sharing this, I feed mine separately mainly because I like having him in the kitchen while I make coffee but never thought about hidden pests!
I definitely used to have that problem with crickets. I don't know why I never thought of feeding him in a separate space. I guess that's why I have you guys ;)
the funny thing is, like Beardies, the bugs do need some sun to bask in... so eventually, they will come out when the Beardie is awake... and they won't be chirpin' any more...
Thank you so much. I never thought of that and I have have one of my bearded dragons for four years and the other one for one year and I have always feed them in the cage. Thanks again.
Thank you for this advice! And everyone should listen and do this! I've spent sometimes 20+ mins hunting down uneaten crickets before bedtime just to see 1 still moving around at night 😒😑
Our pleasure!! And haha yeah, it's such a pain
Great info! Plus you don't have to clean up so much after they eat.
Thank you so much for this tip i will now be doing this for my beardie!
Great advice.
That little tip with the sandpaper is ingenious, although simple. I have a tub, but it's so slippery and I was pondering how to solve that, lol.
You got a dragon waving at you in the background 😂
The beardie in the back at 0:26 😂
Crickets can also bite dragons while they're sleeping, and if they get the tail good, that could lead to tail rot
Thank you for this
My pleasure!
Smart, good to know, ty!
You bet!
WOW! this was sooo helpful great vid too!:)
Mine wont tong feed and will also freak out if i put in a seperate container to feed as if it as claustrophobia
Only eating if i drop them in the tank. Suggestions?
I feed in the tank. But only one at a time. He'll gobble it up. It does take about a half hour tho. He's right though, the crickets will hide and hide quickly. If you have that floor liner that you cut to size like I've got, the little bastards will go under it sometimes.
Good advice
Why thank ya! :)
@@ColdBloodCreations no problem make it a good one
Interesting video my bearded dragon eats all her crickets so I’m not worried.
Interesting view. We just tong feed our beardie
Thank you ♥️
Of course! :)
I thought he was gonna say something like "if you feed it in the inclosure it can get some substrate in it that Will clog up and make it sick" or something like that
thank u
I wonder how these lizards ever make it in the wild?
I do have a storage tub where I put my old toys so I could just clean that out wash it with water and put my dragon in there and I can gobble up all those roaches thanks for the advice.
Sounds like a plan! And no problem. :)
My dragon isn't fully comfortable with me picking them up yet. I've had them for 3 weeks or so. Any tips on how I can bond with them? I want to bath them and do this too but I can't :(
Amiturea - That is a really great question. I'm getting a dragon in about a week, and want to do this, but I'm imagining your exact same scenario.
Hopefully they answer with suggestions for this!
What about when theyre babies?
do you sell warms i can buy
Can u specify the age of dragon ur discussing on ur topics cause i have a baby dragon and i cant tell if some of ur suggestions are valid for it or not due to its age.
My family just got our baby last night. We were told to let it get used to it's new home for 2 or 3 days. So should we feed it in its home still for now? Or should we start taking it out right away to feed? Thanks
I read somewhere that a dragon can suffer from food rot in the stomach if the food isn't taken out of tank 2 hrs before bedtime and food doesn't digest properly. Is this true?
The food can rot if they don't bask at all. It takes more then a day for that to happen. You should give up to 2 hours for them to bask and wonder before you take them out after feeding
I recently “saved” a bearded dragon from some who wasn’t taking care of it at all. He’s 6 months old and he’s about 13 inches long. Is that a normal size? I’m just worried because he wasn’t getting any protein with the last owner. He was only eating greens
It's hard to tell. It really depends where they got it. How long they have had it. And if they had the proper care and lights
Good idea! Also 1st lol
So close!
omg hi
I put worms in her bowl and she eats them before they even realize it's hot 😇
Nom nom nom...
This is off topic but can you do an episode bathing the bearded dragon? Mine has poop on him😂 I dont want to do anything that will harm him...
