I’m so glad I ran across your channel a while back because it’s helped me so much regarding my beardies diet !! He’s super picky and it’s a work in progress but you kept me from making big mistakes. I’ve tried him with every green I can buy, every vegetable and fruit they can have, and all he wants to eat is arugula 😩. I thought it was going to be fun to feed him a variety and watch him eat different things. He’s a year old now and he’s made a switch to less crickets and worms and more greens but all he wants is arugula. I’ve been searching for other spicy greens and veggies and hoping he will like some of those 😬😬

You can give bearded dragons fruits, just certain ones you can’t like oranges and avocados. I was a bit confused when he said no fruits but he is kind of right because they are pretty fattening because he did say that later in the video you can feed them fruits, but you can’t give them certain ones like I said, especially citrus. thank you for reading :)

I just got my first bearded dragon and I’ve been so confused on how to properly feed him that it’s been giving me a headache and I’m happy I came across your channel, I recently just fed him 10 crickets in fear that I was underfeeding him since a lot (and I do mean A LOT) of sources have been telling me that he should be eating 100 crickets a day in his current size which I found ridiculous since he’s just so small of a lizard.. I’m gonna try the 5-10 insects twice a day with salad and see how well that goes, I appreciate what you’re doing on the platform!!

Bringing with or if we have to take to a family members house. My son is in travel soccer so we might need to bring him with but a glass enclosure is just not the best. I've discovered your videos today and I find em very interesting and useful!
I wanted to ask a question: I'm new to the reptiles world and I have a baby bearded dragon, but he often struggles to eat crickets since they'd jump away and hide away from it, is there a way to help it with the hunt or do I have to just wait until it eats the crickets? Cause I've found crickets that stayed alive for two days...

  • @tsutl84
    @tsutl84 Місяць тому

For the love of God do not take care advice from pet store employees alone! Research people!
I'm lucky that the big pet stores (Petco, etc) where I live only allow the people who care for the pets in the store to give advice and they take amazing care of the animals. I know not all locations are this way but here it is. Even then I still did my research because they did try to sell me some questionable items like repticarpet and calcium sand when my beardie was a baby. I did use the carpet for a few months and washed it religiously and replaced it every month just to be sure. Now my beardie has play sand and doesn't need it, but he's also an adult now.
The funny thing about skipping feeding days is I offer salad to my beardie everyday and he will go 1-2 days between eating it. Sometimes he will dig the salad out of the bowl and push it under the heat lamp to dry it out and I'll hear him eating crunchy salad. I do give him 1-2 small blueberries a week for moisture and it's the only fruit he likes. He does not like Romaine lettuce.
As far as activity level it depends. When I take him outside on a hot day and he gets really warmed up he will be very active as soon as I being him back in, but he does not run around outside because he doesn't like getting very far away from me. I know he's had enough sun when he crawls into my shadow, then we go back inside.
For new beardie owners please don't freak out if your dragon does not go to bask for very long some days. Mine will bask sometimes for hours and other days he won't bask at all. I keep my room about 75 degrees and he loves it for some weird reason. He will go seek heat when he wants to. I do put him under his heat lamp for a short time before and after each bath though so the warm water isn't a shock and to help finish drying him off after the bath. He will get out from under the heat lamp when he's comfortable.
Just remember they don't generate their own body heat so if your pet goes out, like mine has during really high winds, to hold them against you with a blanket over them to insulate the heat you are sharing. Mine likes to sometimes snuggle and get my heat instead of his own heat lamp and he has his own blanket for covering him with. It's also his safety blanket and helps him feel comfortable in new environments and situations.

Hiya. I have an adult beardie and I give him a variety of veg everyday as well as dubia roaches as his only insect. I’m a little confused on how many roaches he should be having a week as they are larger and meatier than crickets/locusts and are higher in protein. I usually only give him 2 at once, about twice a week. Is this enough or too much? Some days he will hardly touch his veg bowl and others he will eat the whole thing. I would really appreciate a response as most videos online only talk in terms of crickets and I want to make sure i’m doing the right thing. We breed the roaches in a box to save money (I have too many now!) but I will try and get some other insects too occasionally to vary his diet more

@@ChiefSweetsUniverseHeh. The site just confuses me more; since they categorize Collards/Mustards/Turnip greens in the same category as Bak Choy as being goitrogenic greens. Where in most sites I read Collards/Mustards/Turnip greens are okay for staple, but with some other sites claiming that Bak Choy is not okay due to goitrogen.
I also did some research on goitrogen levels for Bok Choy and Collards (both are considered to be low, specifics unknown), phosphorous levels (collards has about 15 mg more), calcium levels (collards about 117 mg more; which I think could be supplemented via calcium supplements anyway), as well as oxalate level (collards with 9 mg more). Comparing only those two since it seemed Collards would always be an option as a staple on almost every site I visit, and Bok Choy is something readily available to me.
I'm considering some form of Spring Mix / Salad Mix/ Mesclun Mix (minus the spinach), and maybe 30-40% Bok Choy.

I want to put my dragon in a newer even bigger tank.. and I plan on putting my corn snake in the dragons old tank.. but my question is I have bio active tank that’s been going well for a few years.. could I possibly let that tank sit for a little bit and let isopods and springtails clean all the stuff up and then put my corn snake right in there after a few changes I simply just don’t want to swap all the dirt out and collect all the bugs and spring tails.

Hi. I love your videos. I have a huge problem with my adult female bearded dragon. I purchased her when she was 18 months old. Was told she likes to be handled and all that great stuff. Well I’ve had her for 6 months now and she is still terrified of me. She obviously had no interactions with humans at all. I gave her time in space in the beginning and I started taking her out and holding her and it’s been the same ever since when I hold her she’ll close her eyes by pet or she closes her eyes. If I talk to her, she closes her eyes or closes one eye and turns her head and keeps one eye open. That’s not looking at me, I’m running out of ideas of what to do with her. Any suggestions? She doesn’t like to be walked with she’s terrified of falling. She hates the bath. I had to keep my arm in the bath with her when I give her a bath. She tries to climb up break up my arm if I put her in the bathtub break my heart highly just take her out, she’s beautiful. I love her. She’s gorgeous orange. Her name is Lexi. Any suggestions of what I should do at this point please. Sincerely, Carol Barr.

If she's scared or running away when you try to take her out of her cage then the best thing would be to 'break her in' or basically just get her used to you. Spending time around her cage, allowing her to see you most of the day. Eventually you can just have your hand in the cage with her every now and then so she realises you're not a threat. Hand feeding is also a great way to get them used to you, it's what helped the most with my beardie. Keep her in her cage and just reach in and offer a leaf. She'll associate your hand as food giver and eventually, not a threat. With the baths, instead of letting her soak, try just dripping and wiping water on her to keep her clean or keep the water 2cm deep. I hope everything goes well! She sounds gorgeous.

We give our 6 month old dragon 1/4” dubia roaches. Before finding this page, I read to feed her as many as she’ll eat in one sitting. That’s way more than you’re recommending! Any suggestions or tips?

No worries I used to recommend that as well but the whole hobby is changing how much we feed because we realize we were overfeeding our dragons. So now we are recommending a less but enough for your dragon to be full.

You should take Hissing Roaches off your list. They can not digest the shell, they are very bad for them. Also I would add NEVER feed your bearded dragon insects that are not farmed because they can have parasites.

I'm really concerned about some of the advice you are giving out here. I was watching until you started talking about diet and had to stop so I could look at the date this was uploaded .... I was expecting to see it was many years old, but 6 months!
Please please do some research. Your advice on feeding is very out of date. I am worried how many people watching and commenting to say the advice is good. Adult dragons should only have insects 2 to 3 times a week. Their veg is very important part of their diet and it is dangerous advice to say it is not.
