My pop's paint bench had muti-colored layers of paint from cans of lacquer paint spilled on it in waterfall-esque layers at the edge of the bench that when chipped off gave me a unique piece of my dad's many months and at times years in a paticular paint shop. They were a piece of his life in my hands that I could hold and feel the hours of hard labor he did without complaint to feed and shelter his brood. I also found the heavy paint laden wheel protection covers gave me a sense of how much work dad had done in that shop. As you may know the loud banging that persists in a body shop sans ear protection can lead a hearind deficit. This led to my father having significant hearing loss over the 30 years he worked in that enviroment. My mom believed that my dad actually had 'selective' hearing capabilities. But if you were in the living room when my dad was watching TV with the volume up loud enough to be heard in the neighbor's house, you say otherwise.
