When this song was released there were a lot of bands from Scotland competing with each other. Deacon Blue, Simple Minds, Hue and Cry, Wet Wet Wet, Texas, Love and Money, Del Amitri, Hipsway, The Associates, Goodbye Mr MacKenzie, The Cocteau Twins, Big Country, The Jesus and Mary Chain. I've probably forgotten some.
@@RichardSmith-ew3xz , nothing released since 7 Dials, 2014. He’s never been prolific with albums but this has been the longest wait. Nothing live either for a good few years…unfortunately.
He grew up literally around the corner from me in Westwood (mentioned in the song), East Kilbride, Scotland. He was writing wonderful fully structured songs by the age 14.

Still on Fire, or All I Need is Everything from their Knife album are great tunes. I also think the Crying Scene frrom Stray is a good place to go next.
Wish he'd kept this lineup of Aztec Camera together longer,in concert those 2 drummers really added some punch, and the expanded band just really filled out some of his earlier works
Completely forgot about this band. They sounded almost indistinguishable from The Blow Monkeys, the band that did the song for Police Academy 2 in the scene where Bobcat Goldthwaite meets a girl
This act did not become as big as the Smiths only because of production mistakes, and because of going from a reliable independent record label into a big one without sufficient planning.
A lot more to this band than meets the eye, especially the lead singer, Roddy Frame, a talented musician. One of ATF's actually. "Bigger, Better, Brighter" is good.
I recommend you look at another, less commercial, Aztec Camera song which has been a favourite of real fans since the beginning: We Could Send Letters. Enjoy!
You're a Gen X'er and had never heard of these guys or this song? Well that was a cute reaction if you had literally listened to it for the first time lol. Were they not big in the US/Canada?
One of my favorite UK bands from the 80s and their first album High Land Hard Rain is one of the best debut albums in the entire decade in my opinion. They are definitely not synth pop though. They started out as a new wave folk pop band but got a bit slicker in their sound later in their career. This is one of their later hits. Roddy Frame is an amazing songwriter too!
What a cool group! They have some amazing songs!
"Oblivious" is another great song.

@@paul5589 Pretty good , I'd add The Waterboys & Altered Images. Gregorys Girl , a great film.
@@davidellis5141 the Waterboys are an excellent group. I'm going to add the Exploited to the list of great Scots!

Yeah, there's two types of people, those who love Aztec Camera and those who've never heard of them.
Then there are people who liked prefab sprout also
Roddy is the pride of Scotland. Such a beautiful songwriter. Please review We Could Send Letters by Aztec Camera. You'll fall in love all over again.
I sent the first lines of 'Letters' to my first girlfriend 'You said you're free for me that said it all... '
In my opinion, one of the most underrated bands of the 80s...
So many good songs...
westwood (east kilbride scotland) to hollywood,, the singer lived in westwood as a kid
Roddy is the most under-rated singer/songwriter to come out of the UK. Phenomenal guitarist! Pure Genius
Whatever happened to Roddy Frame? What's he doing noo?

he came out of scotland not uk
Roddy never got his due. High Land Hard Rain. I used to spin it all the time as DJ at Va Tech radio station.
You have to watch "Good Morning Britain" by Aztec Camera..It is there greatest song ever and is truly a Classic.
Not to mention it's a duet with Mick Jones of The Clash!
Cat Sarai, your reaction is almost as moving as their performance back then. you have a contagious smile!
This is a real tonic seeing this old favourite tune, love that song. It got my heart going a little faster or was that you gorgeous lady x
Excellent throwback song, they had a few good ones i remember off the top with "Oblivious" & "Deep & Wide & Tall"
Personally I enjoy their song Oblivious..which was the first song of theirs i ever heard. Was a staple of early MTV as well.
IYKYK….Roddy is real talent. I’ve been a fan since, gulp, the 80’s.
Always in love with this song.
Roddy Frame looks like a young Edward Norton.
💖
I have to say, I seriously love those go go girls...The song's pretty good too. 😊
Loved Roddy since 83 , seen him countless times, he keeps getting better with age.
Working in a Goldmine is my favourite from this album
Great reaction to a half-forgotten gem!
Maybe give Danny Wilson "Mary's Prayer" a try? Same era, similar style :)
I don't think Roddy Frame would appreciate his band being called a 'Syth-pop' band!
This was their most commercial song. Very fun & frivolous. My favourite is Still On Fire. I wish I looked like the singer Roddy Frame !
He was a cutie pie! Total heart throb material.
Isn't he beautiful
Been inlovr with him since I was 12 ( Roddy Frame )

You might like other Scottish bands like Big Country, Deacon Blue, Travis, and Del Amitri
Yes! All great, top bands! (Del Amitri are my favourite though) :D
I'm an Englishman, but I have to say Scotland produced some great music.
Still on Fire, or All I Need is Everything from their Knife album are great tunes. I also think the Crying Scene frrom Stray is a good place to go next.
And he's so effin beautiful! Movie star handsome!

"Ambition and love wearing boxing gloves" I hope that I heard that correctly.
They were even better when ‘the fifth Smith’ Craig Gannon was with them. They were so young (19?) and an amazing band. Glad you enjoyed it.
Oblivious came out when Roddy Frame was 18.
Gran tema !!de aztec camera !!
Cool right? 😎
One of the great bands of the 80's! Rody Frame is a real rocker. Great voice! 😉🙌👍
Lovely song always loved that song, such a lively happy song
I was young in that era and you just don’t get music like this any more
Completely forgot about this band. They sounded almost indistinguishable from The Blow Monkeys, the band that did the song for Police Academy 2 in the scene where Bobcat Goldthwaite meets a girl
They were NOT a synth pop group
It's one of my guilty pleasures
Not synth pop more guitar driven. Roddy is a great player. High Land Hard Rain is a must.
Saw them in 1983 nightmoves Glasgow 😎😍 Roddy Frame from East Kilbride Scotland
Roddy is the most under-rated singer/songwriter to come out of the UK. Phenomenal guitarist! Pure Genius
Brilliant group.....any chance you could react to the mighty wah - the story of the blues...
I always like this song.
It is so good. Something that really hooks you. Not sure if it's the lyrics or the beat
awesome love it

Are those the same two lady's that did backing vocals for talking heads on the live video for life during wartime ?
Aztec Camera weren’t a synth pop band. They were just a pop group. Roddy Frame the singer had a great voice
Aztec camera were never a synth band
I was 17 and this song was in the charts and life was a lot better than this nightmare.

OMG..... This takes me back. Love it.
Roddy is a great guitarist...never played synth
That hole love album is great
Everything they've ever done is great, but agreed, I like Love the best.
