Funny thing about your daughter it's common I know a girl anything old she avoids , made her watch it's a wonderful life over Christmas she loved it , she cried several times. No school like old school.
Anytime I'm not smiling, Cat always puts a smile on my face. A true beauty with great taste in music. I sure hope we see you in new videos one day again Cat!
Annie Lennox one of the most beautiful creatures i`ve ever seen or heard, her face is perfectly symetrical, and her voice is that of an angel. Dave A Stewart, was an unstoppable force with the music produced a unique mechanical sound, which is instantly recognisable, it`s like hearing a river flow next to a steel mill.. amazing, I remember seeing this air on top of the pops at 13 in 1983 and my crush from Debbie Harry went straight to Annie Lennox lol..
One of the things I like with your reactions,Cat,and welcome back here to us in youtube land by the way,is that you show us a really big screen with the band, music video you do a reaction on....which is great....keep up the good work..
Annie Lennox in this song and “Love Is A Stranger” are instrumental in me being who I am today. Also, Annie’s red hair reminds me of Garbage..”Only Happy When it Rains”
I listened alot to Eurythmics in my childhood and teens,I mean alot...I even went to a concert with them, and that is something I always never do and never did with any band..they were a big,big part of my music experience during my younger years..for sure...then I guess I grew abit tired of them and now I hardly listen anymore..maybe because I played their songs to death more or less in the past..Sweet dreams is one of their most classic songs,it really symbolizes Eurythmics earlier music perfectly, and I think its one of their biggest hits as well. Even though I like their rocky approach later on in the 80s,there is a special appreciation with me with their more synth like music in their first years..
I was such a big Eurythmics and Annie Lennox fan until i went to see her live i won't repeat what she said but she stopped the entire set because a woman was singing along and completely belittled her i was shocked! Still her talent is undeniable,
Annie can shave her hair off, dye what is left bright orange, wear a black suit with black leather gloves and still look feminine. I'd say that defines looks over presentation. That said I wished I could use a smile as well as you, that definitely adds to the show.
One other observation is that in all the music groups we see where there are mixed sexes in them,a man and a female,or several males and several females,or whatever it is,its always the males that plays and make the music and almost always, the females that sing the lead vocals..have you ever heard anything when its the opposite? It must be very rare...extremely rare. The same with my favorite group,ABBA,where Björn and Benny wrote all their music and also did some of the singing, although the girls did most of the lead vocals.
Ooops, never thought about that the song is about the Music Industy. Not so absurd. Btw. we had about the same taste in music in the 80s and 90s, only Billy Bragg is missing.
The 80's were so nuts, the video with the suits and retro computer is a bit Orwellian 1984, then goes to waving a Cello in a field of cows with bits of Venetian masked Ball costumes thrown in too. And we all just took it in our strides then! :)
Great choice Cat! An iconic song from a great album, it takes me right back to my school years. It's hard to think of an average Eurythmics song, they were that good.
In those days (yes that sounds like the middle ages) you or liked disco/soul/funk or New Wave/alternative, i guess this was the record who combined both worlds. Later Annie lennox wrote "Diva" ,holy cat!, a real showstopper! The sing itself was written at a time where she was unhappy because her musiccareer was not evolving as she hoped. The whole song is about the everlasting search of mankind for " something". The sweet dreams should be seen as the personal motivators in search for ones happiness. Well, according to her autobiography. She also states that the wanting te be used/abused line has nothing to do with certain sexual behaviour.
Cat I don't know if you ever saw the movie "Music and Lyrics" 2007 with Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore? its a must see. Its a romance about an 80's pop star still dining out on the past but doing tiny gigs mostly to Gen X women who loved him back in the day. He gets a break being asked to write material for a sort of Brittany Spears superstar. Its one of my favourite films of all time. Funny, romantic, touching and a great laugh at the quirks of the 80's
One of the first records I bought pre-teens. Love it. Classic. A very well conceived piece of work, most unlike others of the time that were rather formulaic. Song is about fulfillment and our desires that motivate us. If you listen to the lyrics, you'll actually hear very few - there are no verses, just a chorus of "Sweet Dreams..." repeated many times, broken by a chorus break and a bridge of "Hold your head up...". Deceptively simple, presented in a way that you don't realise what little is said. And though they were never married, Annie and Dave were a couple during their time with The Tourists and, on leaving, during the early years of Eurythmics (which, quoting from a dictionary(!), means: the art of harmonious bodily movement, especially through expressive timed movements in response to improvised music). As for the cow, apparently it symbolises the different forms of existence: "Here we have humans, doing what we do, and here we have a cow." Not untypical of early videos, though - David Bowie had a large digger follow him and his extravagantly dressed crew, along a beach with a colour scheme presented like a negative. Bizarre!
EN ESOS AÑOS.NO HABIA LA TECNOLOGIA DE HOY Y SALIAN TREMENDOS VIDEOS, Y ANNY LENOX CON ESA TREMENDA VOZ,ESE LOOK TAN ANDRIGINO LE DABA UN TOQUE ESPECIAL
Would be fun to see reaction to Front 242 - Headhunter, directed by Anton Corbijn who worked with so many legends like Depeche Mode, U2, Joy Division etc, thanx for entertaining reaction vids!
Thinking of great female singers of the period, may I recommend you react to something by the Australian band The Divinyls? Lead by the late Chrissy Amphlett, who had an amazing stage presence and was a powerful songwriter to boot. You may know I Touch Myself, but they had a huge catalogue of hits here in Aus that's worth exploring - Boys in Town, Science Fiction, Pleasure and Pain, I'm Jealous - take your pick.
I remember seeing Annie Lennox with The Tourists on the old grey whistle test I think it was her first appearance I thought she’s pretty good ..........
I wasn't able to record during that time. Won't happen again next year. I was pretty bummed I was unable to do any of the great Christmas songs of the era
🤩🤩🤩
Funny thing about your daughter it's common I know a girl anything old she avoids , made her watch it's a wonderful life over Christmas she loved it , she cried several times. No school like old school.
80'S IS THE COLORFUL JOYFUL MIUSIC ERA OF THE DECADE. ALL GENRE OF MUSIC. NEW WAVE, ROCK, BALLADS LOVE SONG.
Anytime I'm not smiling, Cat always puts a smile on my face. A true beauty with great taste in music. I sure hope we see you in new videos one day again Cat!
This entire album is still synth perfection! 🎹🖤
When I bought it I would play it twice a day. LP then copied on to SA90 tape. Only play album once to tape it.
brings back so many memories....

Dave Stewart (the keyboard player) wasn't married to Annie but WAS married to SIOBHAN FAHEY from BANANARAMA!
:)
Aaaahhhh. I have them confused with the Thompson Twins.
But Dave and Annie were a couple and lived together in early days.

A classic, such creativity in her career. Her catalogue is full of excellence. I Love You Have Placed A Chill In My Heart.
