A city of monsters with no humans called Monstropolis centers around the city's power company, Monsters, Inc. The lovable, confident, tough, furry blue behemoth-like giant monster named James P. Sullivan (better known as Sulley) and his wisecracking best friend, short, green cyclops monster Mike Wazowski, discover what happens when the real world interacts with theirs in the form of a 2-year-old baby girl dubbed "Boo," who accidentally sneaks into the monster world with Sulley one night. And now it's up to Sulley and Mike to send Boo back in her door before anybody finds out, especially two evil villains such as Sulley's main rival as a scarer, chameleon-like Randall (a monster that Boo is very afraid of), who possesses the ability to change the color of his skin, and Mike and Sulley's boss Mr. Waternoose, the chairman and chief executive officer of Monsters, Inc

It’s one of the most touching things to come from a character like him.
I was surprised noticing how…self-serving Mike was upon rewatch. He’s a character built on *self-preservation* and it shows, particularly when Mike dang near sacrificed Boo when he and Sully almost left her in *Randal’s trap* & when Mike tried to convince Sully to *leave the entire company.*
So yeah, for him to *hurt* himself with a seemingly impossible task to give Sully a chance to see Boo again, it’s really damn heartwarming. *THAT’S* what we call *character growth.*

Boo was played by director Pete Doctor's infant daughter. When Billy Crystal was initially asked to be Woody in the Toy Story movie he refused. He would later state that it was the biggest mistake of his career. So when years later he was asked if he wanted to be in Monsters Inc. He said absolutely. This is the result of that decision. The amount of work for Sully's fur was extremely difficult to animate

Mary wasn't Pete's daughter, his daughter is called Ellie.
Mary was Rob Gibbs daughter, Pixar animator and director who passed away in 2020, only 55 years old.
Ellie did make a voice cameo along her brother Nick as some of the screaming children and she voiced her namesake in Up plus she was inspiration for Inside Out and Riley.

Very VERY interesting fact, there's a cut version of the restaurant scene that showed the building blowing up. The horrific events of 9/11 just happened two months prior to this movie's release, so following many filmmakers' respect for viewers by not including footage of the twin towers or buildings exploding, they made a force field form around the restaurant instead.

Especially with it being October, there are a lot that match the Halloween theme, like Coraline, The Corpse Bride, and of course Nightmare Before Christmas. That being said, there are lots of other amazing ones, like the claymation world of Wallace and Gromit, Fantastic Mr. Fox, which is the most underrated animated film of all time imo, and my personal favorite Kubo and the Two Strings, which broke a lot of stop motion animation records, and is the height of beauty and technology, as well as plot.

Instead they would have her in a room with various toys, and would literally follow her around with a microphone as she played. They then pieced together Boo's lines from those recordings.

One thing I realised about fear and laughter is that scaring people is easier and making them laugh. When your scared, it's all related to defense. You're always scared by something and maybe even the same thing because of the adrenaline. Hell you can even get scared just from a jump scare kind of surprise. As for making people laugh, it all depends on their sence of humor. And even if there is something that is funny, it can easily go dry and not be funny. And even if something is funny, it probably wont make them laugh like crazy. It's a good thing that laughter is 10 times more powerful than screams. If it was the same amount, it won't hold up very well. Another thing with scaring people is that you don't even have to be super scarry either.

So while Monsters University is a prequel, they did make a sequel show "Monsters at Work" on Disney Plus. While the show isn't 100 percent focused on Mike & Sully, they are still in it, instead the show focuses on a working crew who fixes stuff at Monsters Inc.
The show has some really good character moments, including some good moments with Mike & Sully. The show starts right after Waternoose was jailed, the ending with Sully reopening Boo's door is not shown in the show, but the show takes place before that ending.
I don't want to spoil more if you do watch it, but the show also shows how much the laugh power would be different to the use to be scarers.
The show wasn't needed but I do recommend it, because it's not a bad show it's interesting and it's sad not a lot of people watched it, because it's food, but I get why people didn't watch it because nobody needed a sequel

Actually, that other sock came from Boo. If you watch Boo closely after Mike manages to get the CDA to chase him, only one of Boo's feet has a sock on, the other is bare. In other words they could only get two maximum, besides, the only needed one for the distraction.

What I love about Waternoose is his motivation. He was a desperate businessman who needed to make more scare power due to the shortage going on in Monstropolis and Randall approached him about the scream extractor, taking advantage of the situation and to get at Mike and Sulley at the same time.

Boo is voiced by director Pete Doctor's infant daughter. When Billy Crystal was initially asked to play Woody he said no. He would later state that it was the biggest mistake of his career. So when he was later asked if he wanted to be in Monsters, Inc. he said yes

Way to go on predicting the laughter ending right away--along with predicting that Waternoose was sus!
Sully accidentally scaring Boo was completely heartbreaking, though. The worst part is the realization that he's done this to hundreds of THOUSANDS of kids before her, over the course of decades in his prominent scaring career ("scareer"?).. When he saw his own face on the cameras, it definitely hit him that being scary isn't always that great for the one being scared. Especially since kids aren't as dangerous as he thought, and that he managed to care for one for the first time. Sully felt pure guilt, and you could totally see it.
    Well done, Pixar.

Actually Boo is the first kid to be used for The Scream Extractor. He PLANNED to kidnap thousands of kids in order for Monsters Inc to stay afloat.

@@mevb I was talking about Sully's long career as a scarer there, not Waternoose. XD

Don’t know if you know this, but the conspiracy that they have with this movie when the monsters were talking about “ laser vision” and the “ mind powers… they are actually talking about Jack Jack from The Incredibles from when he could travel from different dimensions.
