Hotshot race car Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) is living life in the fast lane - until he hits a detour and gets stranded in Radiator Springs, a forgotten town on Route 66. honestly, this movie doesn’t get enough credit for the intro. Lightnings monologue and going back-and-forth between the race and then the announcers basically giving you the whole backstory in under five minutes was a great way to get the watcher hooked but also introduce the conflict of the movie already
I completely agree, Cars was the first ever movie I saw in Theatres and this scene is still one of the coolest intros to a movie I have ever seen.

Fun fact but Radiator Springs is based off a real small town called Holbrook in Arizona. Some of the buildings such as the Cozy Cone Motel are based off teepees you can stay in like a hotel stay. The restaurant there called Joe and Aggie's has Cars memorabilia with John Lasseter's autograph thanking the town for the inspiration of Cars. It's pretty neat to see on visits.
Kinda reminds me of Goodsprings being featured in Fallout New Vegas, and having a signed original copy of the game hung up in one of their main buildings as a bit of recognition
Here in San Bernardino they have the same teepee motels. It's on Rt 66 named the "Wig Wam" it's run down now and the area is full of bums and druggies.
25:00 Red was supposed to talk. He was meant to be voiced by Joe Ranft, who sadly died in 2005 in a car accident (Which is a sad irony). Ranft has already voiced other characters like: Lenny the binoculars from Toy Story, Heimlich the caterpillar from Bug's Life or Wheezy the penguin from Toy Story 2, and a minor character in Monsters Inc. has Ranft's name even if he has no voice lines.

Omg dude PS2 Cars game was bussin like goddamn. Finished it with 100% completion. Well spent time for sure. Especially memorable is Tune Racers dialogue and how McQueen roasts their asses, especially Wingo lmfao. Look it up

I remember playing the Cars game on the OG Xbox years back. But I hated doing the actual races lol. Instead, I’d explore the whole “free roam” desert of Radiator Springs and try to glitch my way out of the map lmao. Good times
The one moment where I cried harder than I'd cried in a long time was when Lightning threw the race to make sure The King was able to finish. Having been bullied in school, it was nice to see someone giving up their time to help someone out.
I didn't really care for any Pixar movie. I'd watch them with my family because they were safe....until now. This was the first Pixar movie to touch me the way it did. I cried so hard that night. By the way, I was bullied too.
Fun fact: Originally Pitterbilt was going to be the truck that drove Lightning around but since John Ratzenberger's dad drove a Mack truck, they changed it into Mack. The Pitterbilt (voiced by late story board man and co-director Joe Ranft who also voices Red the Firetruck and the scratch voice for Mater, in fact Ranft died in a car crash a year before this movie's release hence why it was dedicated to him) scene is a nod to this to the change.
Disney’s California Adventure’s Carsland is so movie accurate and truly feels like you walked inside the film.
The King is modeled on Richard Petty, on a real NASCAR race car based on the Superbird. Rules were tightened promptly to make it illegal due to the tall spoiler. Dale Earnhardt Jr was one of the hottest drivers at the time, and son of Dale Earnhardt, true legend of the series, appears as his actual car at the time. The two announcers were two of the trio that did real NASCAR TV at the time. Mario Andretti, also making a cameo, raced in a number of different types of racing, including NASCAR, Indy, Formula, and a slew of others. Michael Shumacher drove primarily in Europe on the Formula One (F1) circuit, winning the driver's championship seven times. At the time this was made, he was racing for Ferrari on the F1 circuit.
The first cars is my favorite pixar movie. I dont get why it is so hated. I just love how every car is based on a car in real life. Cars 2 is kinda its own thing imo. Cars 3 is the only sequel that is relevant to me
I think the hate is mostly because little kids don't understand anything besides the talking cars so fail to remember the story when they are older and because adults see it as a cheap stunt to prodice more toys.
@@frenchbreadstupidity7054 I agree. I found as I got older I loved this movie more as I’m able to understand things I couldn’t as a kid. Recently I was trying to to convince some friends who hadn’t seen the movie since they little to give it a rewatch, even pointed out how it portrays the economic ruin many towns fell into after the construction of the interstate highways, something that actually happened. They still can’t see past the talking vehicles in Cars 1 and 3, and for some reason wouldn’t stop talking about Cars 2

I dislike cars 2 the most. I feel like there was too much disconnect from the main story, the whole Mater thing could’ve been a short or something

It's funny how the ending didn't made me feel anything when I was young yet rewatching it now always make my eyes blurry. Sad thing never make me cry but beautiful moment like this, hell yeah. Because this is something, only a true hero would do by instinct.

Michael Schumacher is one of the most successful f1 drivers of all time, with 7 world championships, the only other driver ever to match him is Lewis Hamilton. Michael's son also very recently became an f1 driver, guess it runs in the family.
Lewis makes a cameo in Cars 2 as himself as well as Jeff Gordon as Jeff Corvette
and unlike hamilton Schumacher is univerlisy respected --- hamilton often drives like a dick

The Fabulous Hudson Hornet is an actual racing legend. The car actual crashed as well. The King is actually Richard Petty which drove the actual car he plays as (Dodge Daytona)
That dedicatory was to the voice of Doc Husdon. And when the voice passed away, the character did as well. Officially Doc Hudson passed away as well.
3:50 Yeah Chick Hicks should've gotten disqualified and probably even arrested for attempted murder. He could probably get away with one or two crashes if they happened on different races, but 3 crashes in the same race, and one of them causing a chain reaction is definitely no longer accidental.
Theres a LOT of racers in these movies and the Ferrari was Michael Schumacher - 7x F1 world champion, one of the most successful drivers ever and considered the best by many

I love the music at the end. Brad Paisly buts a lot of emotion into the music he sings. One of my favorites is Little Moments because its a song about his wife who he loves very dearly.

My dad is a huge car guy. This is one of the few movies that he took me by himself to go see in theaters because he was so excited for it. Pixar really embedded a lot of real car history and its people into this. The second movie in the trilogy is meh to me because it deviates from what this one set up, in my opinion. The third one gets back to the roots of racing and is a beautiful end to this story.

29:55 Probably a little nod/easter egg that isn't as noticeable for most of us but, Luigi (tire shop owner) is a Fiat 500 car.
The yellow Fiat 500 car is a reference to Lupin the Third, who's an anime protagonist that is super popular in Japan. Hayao Miyazaki's first animated feature film ever was Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro which eventually kickstarted to the creation and all of the other movies/films produced by Studio Ghibli. The car that Lupin showcases and drives in the anime is in fact an iconic yellow Fiat 500.
John Lasseter and Hayao Miyazaki have been friends for a long time so a lot of Disney/Pixar films have a small or tiny subtle reference to the Studio Ghibli films.
Another example being Toy Story 3 where Bonnie owns a Totorro plushie toy in her room.

The scene where Frank was chasing them scarred me so much as a child that I refused to go in my grandpa's barn until I was 14 for fear of getting chased by his old unusable wheat harvester and tractors. I still don't like em tho haha
This was my favorite movie for most of my childhood. I still love it as a 17-year-old. And I'm not ashamed.

I just have to say that I keep a couple of CDs in my car containing the soundtracks of all three of these movies. I have terrible driving anxiety, and these movies have always painted the road in such a friendly and inviting light. It honestly helps!! 💖
I said it before, but this is a trilogy that truly means a lot to me. I’ll admit that the second one has some story issues, but I still own and watch it because it has some AMAZING world-building. And the third made me actually tear up which a film has rarely done and has some surprisingly adult -relevant themes for a world full of talking cars.

This was my favourite Pixar movie growing up. The intro, the JDM car scene and the final race are some of the best scenes in any Pixar movie
That last part where The King gets wrecked and they show the similarity with what happened to Doc, it made me cry 😢 it was so sweet of lightning McQueen to give up his chance at the piston cup to help him finish his last race before retiring. That other green guy is an a**hole with no honor.
New sub here! This movie has a special place in me and my family's hearts! My son was 10 at the time this came out and he is special needs.. During that first scene when Lightning jumps over all the cars.. My boy stands up in the theater and yelled "GO LIGHTNING MCQUEEN GO!" Sooo spectacular!

It took me years after watching this movie, but once I learned that I could get to some of the Route 66 museums in my state, my gawd I went. The whole she-bang ... used my McDs money to stay in hotels, get gas and just ...drive with the radio blasting. The sheriff's voice actor actually held tours ...I forget out of what museum, but I missed going... and one of the diners along the route burned down before I could visit. But overall, ... a great ride.
So yeah... Cars and Planes ... live pretty rent free in a safe little spot in my heart.

The Ferrari at the end of the movie is Michael Schumacher. He's a 7 time Formula 1 world champion and currently shares the record for the most world championship drivers titles with Lewis Hamilton.

The part where he races to get in front of the train before it crosses. Is actually an easter egg from the fast and the furious movie. When dom and brian o'Connor drag race and go across some train tracks as a train is coming. Barely making it across the tracks just before the train. Best redemption arc ever.

YES FINALLY YOURE REACTING TO MY FAVORITE MOVIE!! I have an insane obsession with this film franchise. It makes me cry too! Especially the third one. This film also just celebrated its 15th Anniversary! Lightning's real name is Montgomery. And most the cars like King and Doc are real cars by real NASCAR drivers. Petty voiced his own car, King. Doc Hudson is also a 51 Hudson Hornet. The mountains are based off of Cadillac Ranch (in the movie its called "Range"). My dad had a gas station go out of business because of the interstate. His business was on Route 66. There are two Planes movies but they are not by Pixar. Cars 2 actually has worse animation but I hope you enjoy it anyways! Also, McQueen is named after Glen McQueen (Pixar producer who passed before Finding Nemo, in the credits of that movie)

Doc Hudson was Paul Newman's last role before he passed away in 2008.
Originally Paul Newman was consindered to voice Woody while Jim Carrey was going to do Buzz Lightyear for a Old Hollywood vs New Hollywood theme in Toy Story, but the budget wouldn't allow it. Fortunately Tom Hanks and Tim Allen became celebs during the production so Pixar was lucky snag in celebs in their first movie.
I like all the references at the end I think if I’m right this movie was made specifically to honor one of there older employees that had worked on those earlier Pixar films specifically and had died at the time and he loved cars apparently
