A "good quality" electronic design takes into account what happens if the power supply voltage is too high, too low, wrong polarity, or not consistent enough. I mean, seriously, my Tandy 100 from 1983 has circuitry to prevent DC input from charging the AA batteries. I think it's important to note that the reason you should not use a knockoff is because Apple voluntarily chose to ignore good design practices. have macbooks become weaker? We used to supply off brand chargers for a fleet of 50+ macbooks, from 2007-2012 vintage. (chargers usually lasted 6 months max before being physically damaged, they and the pre-ssd hdds become most of my budget) Never had a power failure on one.

09:28 - I see they chose C7120 _(differential mode filter capacitor)_ as a lower value than C1721 and C1722, so the current detection speed is increased. Don't want to be absorbing too much of that voltage differential too quickly which will slow down the detection time of changes in the current. I love analysing circuits and learning from them.

do SSD's care about magnets? couldnt help but notice you put a neo magnet in with the SSD, so i guess it wont be bothered by the field huh? im seriously asking a question here i dont know, i have always just played it safe around ALL storage medium..
:"A magnet powerful enough to disturb the electrons in flash [what SSDs are made of] would be powerful enough to suck the iron out of your blood cells" - Bill Frank, executive director of the CompactFlash Association
A very strong magnet will turn on an FET, so if the computer is powered then a huge magnet -- the kind that would jump across the room and crush your bones -- could mess stuff up especially switching power supplies.
Spinning media (regular HDD) are relatively susceptible to magnets that are stronger than those used to hold screws on it. I wouldn’t want any magnet near my old skool spinning disk drives, but NAND SSD’s are not as susceptible to small magnetic forces, it would have to be fairly large and powerful.
usually no, the reason hard drives and magnets don't mix is because the data is stored via magnetic fields and disturbing that arrangement rearranges the data structure, this doesn't apply to SSDs or NAND storage
Hey Louis! could you maybe consider uploading in 30 or 24 fps? the 60FPS really kills the performance on older machines like my 2010 poor student edition MacBook Air.

How does the general switch over to USC-C power delivery affect the situation? Are knock-off chargers less dangerous? I'm not thinking so much about using cheap ones, but taking advantage of being able to charge a device from any USB-C PD socket on the go when the OEM charger could be left at home.

IMHO, some of third party usb C to lightning cable has better quality than the original Apple cable. So even though it more expensive than the original Apple one. In the end I am still buying the third party one.
Is there a better quality charger than the Apple OEM ones? Startech doesn't sell them anymore and the OEM ones last me 3-5 months tops before the insulator starts rotting away. I have never had PC laptop charger fail in 20 years and probably 40 PC laptops, but all 4 of my Macbook Pros chargers just rot, no matter how careful I am with them. Yes, I know, don't use a Mac, but I develop mobile software and Apple users spend far more than Android users.
Except about the transistor opening to let current through, perhaps that's valves, like vacuum tubes. Transistors, typically referred to as switches (switching transistors) are closed to let current through.
I want that Startek charging lightening cable you are talking about. I have apple cables, bear, duracell, Energizer, all supposedly Apple approved...at least 5 cables that are dead or twitchy. I have several Apple chargers that are twitchy too.
@Red Pillaging, I've been using Apple and IBM since 1979. Have not seen a difference in reliability of the machines. Have seen a difference in durability (I've had some Windows laptops survive falls that not sure Apple would). Windows machines does have better cables and isn't as twitchy.

f the bags why not platic sealable trays like the ones used for fishing for lures an hooks. thats what i use when pulling down hf radios. love the channel an the fact you share such a wealth of info
Happened to me all the time when I was a depot tech fixing toshiba, dell and hp laptops way back. People would get adapters with the right voltage but the amps were wrong. They only saved $20-$30 bucks not worth it.people would get upset when I told them what happened. They would just tell me “but the end fit in the port”
Can’t be.... the internet says it’s apples fault
What do you mean with the amps are wrong?
11:30-11:36 Louis having to edit to keep it family-friendly while talking about idiots on UA-cam kvetching and nitpicking.
The answer is at 26:41
the parallels you draw..lol...i think we both have weird senses of humor louis..thanks man..
Great job and good luck
👍🇺🇸👍
The Mac will live again!
Hi, You are completely right and I agree with you ! From my point of view of course, this is just one more proof that every thing is getting cheaper and cheaper in manufacturing...
Thank you for all your hard work and for the sharing of it, it is soo educational !
Keep on going making videos, it is really motivating me every time to continue the claim for the right to be able to repair !!!
And every time it makes me feel better about the changes and opinion regard to Apple I made ten years ago...😁
It also makes funny history to tell others people 😉
I wish you the best wishes for the new year and a merry Christmas ✨🎄
Sincerely
From Montreal, Qc, Ca
I use what I assume is a genuine MagSafe 1 charger at some times, and a 60W USB power Delivery charger with a MagSafe to Type C cable. seems to work fine
4:11 flying scrue dere!
Exactly, i saw it immediately.
Nothing against him, i like his work but he can be difficult sometimes, and he thinks he is right all the time and talks shit about others which i hate.
Btw did he say 325 for the repair?
You wen't all Bruce Lee there, Louis, talking about water flowing through a stream. :)
Mine just blew up.
your youtube commenter voice was amazing
Who else just checks in for the LR commentary?
hm... have this same model, been using shitty knockoff chargers for years. Going to bookmark this for when this happens to me.
I was late in watching this video. I just bought $12 macbook pro retina charger off an e-commerce site. I had a voucher which reduced the price to a mere $6. Wish me luck!!!!!!!!
are the small bags anti-static?
Great video! Why does whomever makes those schematics waste their time marking almost everything "CRITICAL" isn't most everyting critical somehow???
How good are "Atomic wings" nextdoor?
Great video with tons of information. Appreciate you bro !
Paul Daniel is super genius....he can code, can fix iPhone MacBook, Samsung, can write software.... really...so give him some respect
Canyou recommend a good charger for Macbook Pros at a reasonable price, which is quality?
1,06M subscribers ! Great job still getting more of them
Merry Christmas Mr. Rossmann.. :)
Nice knowing you Kevin
I have you know that Hitachi 4200 RPM drive was 2% faster
These Hitachi disks was immortal.
Hi Louis, how much would this repair cost?
do SSD's care about magnets? couldnt help but notice you put a neo magnet in with the SSD, so i guess it wont be bothered by the field huh? im seriously asking a question here i dont know, i have always just played it safe around ALL storage medium..
Magnets? Not particularly. I'd be far more concerned about electrostatic discharge from the generic plastic bags.
I like the new nice fancy resistors
Hey Louis! could you maybe consider uploading in 30 or 24 fps? the 60FPS really kills the performance on older machines like my 2010 poor student edition MacBook Air.
use enhanced h264ify extension to force 30fps only.
i have a 2012 macbook pro but i would never trust a knock off charger near it while they all arent bad i didnt fully trust a generic charger for a lenovo thinkpad yoga i used for only a quick test purpose of said laptop to make it usable it now uses a insignia or other brand that i coudl quickly get but my macbook pro uses a genuine apple charger
How does the general switch over to USC-C power delivery affect the situation? Are knock-off chargers less dangerous? I'm not thinking so much about using cheap ones, but taking advantage of being able to charge a device from any USB-C PD socket on the go when the OEM charger could be left at home.
It must be more regulated ,right? I mean every new Monitor (over 400$) will charge your device over usb-c, without even asking you.

Love what you do Louis, you inspire me to work harder in life for what you really want to do(I’m a teen and will be joining the workforce soon),thanks so much
Work hard be diligent and respectful hold your word and show up providing good customer service. You will get noticed and rise to the top easily. Concentrate on Financial Literacy, Leadership and Personal Development, they are the main keys to success. Work smarter not not harder, we're in the information age so think like it. One doesn't have to work in a field or factory anymore. Sit on a beach remotely managing the sales of factories so to speak. Chase your dreams and you will achieve them.
...Also, try to work at least three years on your first job to show stability and loyalty. Once you get a good reference from that and you apply all the rest of the Tried and true characteristics of a good worker, the sky is the limit in the USA. Best blessings to you kid.
Brilliance. Everything you had to say, thank you!
Except about the transistor opening to let current through, perhaps that's valves, like vacuum tubes. Transistors, typically referred to as switches (switching transistors) are closed to let current through.
I've been using a knockoff charger on my 2015 MBP since 2017...the macbook is still shit, but it didn't die yet!
The premium version also open with the boards in the correct orientation😏
I want that Startek charging lightening cable you are talking about. I have apple cables, bear, duracell, Energizer, all supposedly Apple approved...at least 5 cables that are dead or twitchy. I have several Apple chargers that are twitchy too.
@Red Pillaging, I've been using Apple and IBM since 1979. Have not seen a difference in reliability of the machines. Have seen a difference in durability (I've had some Windows laptops survive falls that not sure Apple would). Windows machines does have better cables and isn't as twitchy.

Does a knockoff charger have any adverse affects to any other apple products?
what's the difference between knockoff charger, fake charger, and aftermarket charger??
You read way to many comments Louis
You are like the House of computers. Super cool
Thank you for advice! Greetings
