  • A Staffy and Shar Pei are rescued from a neglectful home after being found with untreated skin conditions that have been causing them pain and discomfort. With a violent owner threatening the RSPCA inspector, these dogs have to get out of there, and fast.
Dogs are the nation's favorite pet, but seeing how they can be treated might make you think otherwise. Comedian Alan Davies takes us into the world of dog rescuers, where we follow the RSPCA officers who are tasked with investigating reports of cruelty and neglect when it comes to man's best friend.

I wish we had the same kind of animal police officers like these! I'm not saying all of our people who do this job are bad because I have had interactions with some pretty amazing officers, ones you could see really cared! I've run into some who were just pulling paycheck and those are the worst! Because they make the good ones look bad! Anyway I am in awe of these RSPCA officers! Their hearts must be the size of the Grand Canyon! So from a great grandma in America, thank you for your service and for being so patient and kind to the animals and the owners!

I could just cry, and did, for the lady who had to give up one of her dogs because they fought. And I feel so badly for the pups too having to leave each other after spending their whole lives together. But I understand entirely. And a little 2 yr old girl around as well. She was right in separating them.

@@MoDavI-sl7iy a lovely sentiment, but sometimes we just don't know what will cause dogs to "go off." I had a friend who had the most wonderful, smart, beautiful dog, but just every now and then, randomly, she would go into attack mode, which was terrifying. No one ever knew what would set her off, or when it would happen. They had to keep her separated from other dogs, but sometimes she'd bite "mom" and "dad" as well. They never gave up on her, but were always wary. (yes, fixed)

@@katg109 Since Taz did not look neutered to me, then usually this means the female is not spayed, since it costs more to spay than neuter. This has been my experience; however, this is not always the way it is. Usually, If both dogs are neutered/spayed, there is less chance of any testosterone/hormonal (mating) fighting. On top of this, the dogs could have been frustrated due to lack of enough exercise, so more aggressive with each other. Finally, the woman may have requested the shelter take one of the dogs due to monetary concerns, since she had a little girl to care for, too.

Yes it’s costly to spay/neuter. Locally we have a “snip clinic” that offers free or low cost spay/neuter. Other places have nothing. 🤷‍♀️. The alley cat organization in town here have decreased the feral cat population by hundreds by helping people to trap fix and release. It does work.

I also noticed that the male was not neutered.
That is very odd to me. not only may that increase his aggression but she has the sister. Accidental inbreeding seems a big risk.
In the US, it’s more expensive to do a spay. It’s a more invasive operation of course.
I always get my animals spayed and neutered, it’s healthier, make life simpler and helps reduce over population.

You can see that the first 2 dogs weren't being looked after right. So glad they were taken off their first owners. If the man was that angry at the dog rescue and at the police I do wonder if those 2 gorgeous dogs were hit by him. Whereas you see with Angel's first owner how much that woman loves her and knew she was doing the right thing for the dog. 2 very different kinds of owners.
Have had to edit this to add I am just watching how Coco and Marnie are doing. So gut wretching to hear that Coco has skin cancer and won't be able to go to a furever home. With Marnie the right home and she will the most loving pet someone could have.
I admire what work the dog rescuers do to keep dogs safe and healthy. I don't think I could do that kind of work. I would get so angry at the ones that abuse the dogs and then get really upset at the stories that break your heart.

One thing I don't understand about dogs in the UK; why are none of them altered? It's common practice in the US and it seems like all the dogs in this show are intact. One other comment - I wish the US would take animal welfare as seriously. Can you imagine having an office of people who are paid to check on abused animals, and then have the authority to issue fines and jail time? That would never fly here.

My dog passed in February 2022 from Oral Melanoma which is the same. It happened so fast. Chemo wont even work for this. So be aware and have your vet double check their mouth thoroughly. Once it's noticable, it's too late.

Taz will be neutered if he is still intact and perhaps that will solve his problem. Spaying and neutering can make big differences in many ways in temperments as well as with females avoidance of breast tumors. There is no reason to keep either males or females in intact. There are so many low cost spay and neuter programs, I assume the UK has them as does the US

This is why I donate to the RSPCA and other animal charities. They help ALL animals not just dogs.
That poor Staffie is as good as gold bless her. Looks to me as though she might have had puppies. Maybe that's why the man was so offensive. Perhaps he's been breeding them.

marine looks very similar to my childhood dog. poor sweetie. why are people so insistent on keeping on keeping their dogs and claiming to love them if they’re so obviously in a horrible state and they refuse to do anything about it? yeah, some loving owners you are. i’m so glad they’re in a better place now. if i lived in the UK i’d scoop up sweet little marnie in a second!

Hate when people get angry about something that ... is their fault, they caused it, you have no right to be angry
EDIT: Oh wow ironic about the fighting staffies. So a friend of ours had a gf and they both had pit bulls, one day they got into a bad fight and the aggressor was named Taz as well lol they kept the dogs separated for a while then the couple separated instead. She comes to visit sometimes and arrangements are made so the dogs aren't in the house together. This was two males though, not super common for a male and female to fight, unless they're littermates, don't get littermates lol

It is to bad they could not place the dog with Cancer in hospice foster home so she can live her last days in a loving home, then a kennel. I know in some of the rescues they look for these kinds of foster homes, especially for older pets. The problem is that some dogs look like it is on it last legs when in rescue but when you get them out of the setting they can greatly improved just by having less stress for them. I did a hospice foster dog for a dog that was 15 years old and was not in great shape. But with lot of love, good food and attention she became like a new dog and lasted 3 more years. I was told she would only have one or two months at the most and they wanted her in a good home for her last days. She had spent like 2 years in the kennel before I took her in. She fooled us all.

Always have your animals neutered or spayed. It really helps them behaviorally and prevent unwanted population of animals that might be abused or end up being put to sleep.

I worry about you standing outside in the open when a violent man could shoot through the door. Obviously the woman is lying about treating the dog. That poor Amstaff's skin looks terrible and Coco's eye's must be so painful. Thanks for your dedication! I wish the US was as concerned about animal welfare as Britain is.

When breaking up a dog fight, you pull the collar up high right behind their ears and lift straight up so they can't fight. Add a quick kick but not too hard to their tender underbelly (side flank).

The owner couldn’t handle it and with two dominant pits and a weak owner, trouble was sure to follow. Neutering wouldn’t have changed that. Obedience training is a must.

*Why abandon them on a street?* (too young to be alone)
_At the very least, drop them off at a shelter, as homeless strays._ (give them a decent chance of survival)
*If never found, their chance of survival is almost zero.* (essentially a death sentence)
