    its crazy, it seems so obvious when you hear a great bass sound it has less to do with sick gear and some expensive pickups and more to do with playing clean and precise and then the right eq, compression, fx, but brands want you to believe they have the secret ingredient. Still Dingwall makes some sexy instruments, Ibanez as well, but skill is critical and getting a great tone takes dedication and a good ear. Lots of great free plugins too, thanks for the explanation!

    bass mix sounds great, I was really impressed with the layering of the eq's and the result is real nice. also the little 2db chopper at the end adds nice consistency. I wanted to ask though, would you end up mixing the full track this way or was it for showcasing the bass? the preview in the beginning sounds massive, but i think dwarfs the other instruments

    • @CropCircleStudios
      @CropCircleStudios  24 дні тому

      I've noticed I tend to mix like that a lot, I feel that if you know how your tools affect the sound, you'd then be able to achieve a more accurate result by allocating the best plugin for the task. And yes, i mixed the bass higher in the preview to simply showcase the bass 😁

    @tibi1687 16 днів тому

    Hey dude! First of all let me congratulate you for your knowledge and effort. Very refreshing to see people work on the scientific part of a bass tone. That being said let me give some critique on this. First of all the title. This is not how to make a bass sound like a Dingwall. This is how to sound like Nolly on Periphery records. Which in the end is basically another generic "how to sound like Periphery on bass" type video. Why not sound like yourself ? I mean, you put all this effort to teach people how to get, in a very complicated manner, an expensive tone. Also, about the budget. You might want to factor in the extra cost for any paid plugins you used. In that case the 350 $ thing goes out the window. Want the dingwall tone. Mod you bass with Dingwall Electronics and scoop the mids a tad bit to emulate the 37" scale B string behavior. Oh and get a darkglass B7k and a comp. That's most of it. Yes its not 350$ but its not 3500$. A more comprehensive video would be on how to get a great bass tone in general. And i say this, because you already do most of the heavy stuff in this video. Like you are 70% there. There are some principles that pro Bass Players use (and don't speak about very openly) that you do in this video. Hope this will bring a plus. Cheers dude! Keep it going.

  • @vladv5126
    @vladv5126 20 днів тому

    Yep, what people don't realize is that bass tone is 90% playing and new strings. The brand basically means nothing as long as it stays in tune.

      Reaper's stock plugin "ReaXcomp" and Tokyo Dawn's "TDR Nova" are pretty good free alternatives for the multiband compression side of things. In regards to expansion however, its sadly a bit scarce, i would perhaps instead automate my static EQ moves in and out when needed.

I tried to cut the lows pre amp as much as possible, boost highmids and highs and compreas that but it was such a boost that i get to hear all the buzzes and EMI noise xD what's the verdict doc?

    • @CropCircleStudios
      @CropCircleStudios  21 день тому +1

      Hmm, is the bass properly shielded? Because that could be a possible culprit for all the excessive noise when boosting the high mids/treble if that's not done correctly. Though you did mention that it is a J bass, so that single coil pickup will inherently have more noise in comparison to a humbucker (unless it's an active pickup). Perhaps shoot me a message with a sound demo of your DI signal, I'll see if I can help ya out!
