    LOVE - love - love real milk paint. Been using it for years. Such good coverage.

    Retired art teacher here. To keep glue bottles from clogging, always dry off the nozzle and close it tight. Never stick anything into the tip. If it gets clogged soak the cover in hot water and scrape the inside with a compass point (it’s small enough not to stretch out the tip). This probably won’t work with Titebond 3 or other waterproof glue.

  • @mompowers7187
    @mompowers7187 5 місяців тому +11

    For your glue, we have had success storing wood glue upside down. The air goes to the bottom of the bottle and the tip stays wet. Just make sure the bottle gets closed before it goes upside down. Sometimes we cover the tip with aluminium foil just in case they may drip. Also, keep your tips when you recycle the empties so you can use them on future clogged bottles, while soaking a clogged tip in hot water. Good luck!

    Buy some veneer and replace the little areas. I’ve seen other flippers cut out and gluing new pieces with great results. You should try it, I’m sure YOU can do it!👍🥰

    I have that almost exact dresser. It origanlly had a matching head and foot board for a bed along with a vanity. I gave the vanity , foot and head board to a friend and kept the dresser. This bedroom set belonged to my husbands Grandma, who if she was still living would be about 110! The set is probably from the 1940. I love the deep drawers on this dresser, but like yours was, needs some love. Thanks for showing me how to bring it back to life.

    Lauren, this is beautiful! I like your choices with the paint, the black border in the back, and the gilding wax on the hardware! The wood grain is gorgeous!! You probably could go higher than $350. This is a classic piece - sort of reminds me of an elegantly dressed man or woman.

    I’ve worked on a few old pieces that needed veneer. It’s not Real hard, but you have to be patient & precise.
    This Chest of Drawers turned out Great! 👍🏼 I just wish you wouldn’t have painted the small rows of the decorative veneer. It would have added another dimension with just hemp oil.

    I think on the back of the bottle it will recommend you take the clear tip off and clean the glue out before storing it again. It works for me everytime. Only takes a few seconds.

    Next time you come across a dent or scratch try steaming it out. Followed by a light sand. The steam might just help the wood fibers expand again.

    Restoring a piece is 100 times more difficult than painting! I love everything you did on this piece! It's GORGEOUS! You brought it back to life and gave it another 50 years of life! I totally agree with your decision to leave the scratch on the top... it adds character to a vintage piece! Thanks so much for sharing. I enjoy so much these daily makeovers and your Christmas sweaters are awesome.

    Although I love the milk paint result and the beautifull satin black finish after the hemp oil treatment, this dresser was worth saving in its original shape just with small veneer pieces replacement. You could try to damp and steam the scratch with iron, sometimes it helps to raise the dent.

    The glue bottles are difficult. I clean off the tip, put the top on it, then store it upside down, in a glass or something, so the bottle stays upright. The scratch on the top, you could try a wet cloth and iron, to try and lift it up a bit. Not sure if it was like “dented,” but this technique will swell the wood fibers and lift it up. Might not get it all out, but make it less noticeable.

    I currently have that dresser! I bought it used 43 yrs ago for $75.00. I used it with an antique bedroom set that I sold years ago. The antique headboard footboard and keyed mirror dresser Went well with the dresser. We refinished the headboard and the keyed mirror and dresser. It was green, and we brought it back to the wood. We put a clear coat over and you could set water. You could set a hot coffee cup on it. And it didn't damage at all the over 40 years that I had it. It was a set that I bought with my wedding money 45 years ago. I sold the set to a had been wanting. Something like that and had just come out of a hard situation. We sold a tour for a really cheap price. She cried .My son currently uses the dresser. When I bought the dresser many years ago I put a clear coat on it so it has withstood all these years. Yes the dresser is very very old, It was old when I bought mine. You gave The one you have such a beautiful transformation. I love it I couldn't believe how amazing it turned out what you did. But you always do great transformations with furniture.

    I sometimes use wood glue for its strength in my paper crafts. When bottle tips get hardened glue in them, you can soak in 90 % alcohol like hand sanitizer or bathroom alcohol and it softens it up enough to poke it back out of there. I often put masking tape over my bottle top to keep air out of the tip. I can get that off pretty well. Some people use press and seal.
