Just to comment on Mark's words about Elektra - I think her importance in a big scheme is that she is the only character in Matt Murdock's life who loves him and embraces him for what he is and what he represents (even though her own code is very different) and throughout the season Matt realizes it. While Matt is torn between his two personalities she is the only one who is cool with both of them, she is the only relief in his life he doesn't have to apologize to. Personally, I love that interpretation even more than what she was in the comics.
Gotta say, any perception of Marc Bernardin as Kevin Smith's sidekick have evaporated for me. Marc went from being Robin to being Nightwing in like 2 episodes, dudes.
I think we got our showrunner for the eventual Punisher series right here. Even if she doesn't have experience as a showrunner, you have to at least get her as a consultant. She clearly knows her shit where Frank Castle is concerned. Every filmmaker who has tackled the Punisher will mention Ennis because they were told to drop his name during press junkets. Just like any filmmaker tackling Daredevil or Batman will invariably drop Frank Miller's name. But damn, she was making some pretty obscure references here. She is clearly a huge fan of the character. I know people will say that having her as showrunner will automatically make it campy or over the top like PWZ was....but I really don't think that would be the case. Anyone who has seen her other work can attest that she can both walk, and chew gum at the same time. She's not stuck on one specific tone or approach. And you can tell she loves what they did with Frank in DD so I have no reason to believe she wouldn't continue with that direction.
If they ever make a Punisher solo series they should have Lexi Alexander as either the show runner or at least direct an episode. I thought she did a fantastic job with War Zone
+Real RnB I think the show sucks. Compare it to "Jessica Jones," which isn't great either but is light years ahead of "Daredevil" in terms of storytelling. I don't even care for Bernthal's Punisher, but the character is so good that I would still watch a show with him just because it was the Punisher. Plus they have like 30+ years of Punisher stories to make into a show. I hope they start with the story in the 1985 mini-series if they do a show.
+Real RnB I like the second season even more than the first. So much goes on but it all flows organically. I'm really looking forward to season three and the defenders. I also hope the MCU includes these smaller characters in the movies. Especially avengers three
This episode was excellent! And so much like the original podcast - host, guest, life story, comic book topic...more like these whenever possible please!
I like Marc and I don't want to sound like an ass but I totally disagree with his comments about Daredevil. I think the Punisher was awesome and really was great for the show but I also think Elektra was amazing as well. I really enjoyed having both characters in this season. Their stories worked perfectly together and it kept me interested throughout the season.
+Smokefrog 1985 I have to disagree about the Elektra and Punisher stories interweaving into DD perfectly. I felt like they got disjointed and that we lost out on great opportunity to have Elektra/DD/Punisher all in the final scene. Frank's story was by far the most compelling in the show. The hand story and the "Black SKy" was poorly explained, there should have been more elaboration on why Stick's War is "The only war that matters" or if it's Stick just being small-minded, is he big picture, or small-picture and obsessed with vengeance? Two seasons of teasing is enough we should have gotten SOME answers there. No mention of other major world events, how does the Hand tie into the rest of the MU? (in the comics their presence can be felt everywhere and they can be considered powerhouses even alongside T'challa and Wakanda or Doom and Latveria). Frank's story was a complete character arc, his scenes with DAredevil were compelling and while Elektra was mostly-great, her story felt more shoehorned than anything else in this series thus far. I was more excited when Frank and Wilson were matching wits and fists in prison than i was at the finale (except when Frank showed up) "See you around, Red." Oh...my...fuck! So good.... That said, I think they have a chance to do some really interesting Punisher/Bullseye/Elektra/Daredevil stuff now. Bullseye has spent quite a few years now as a Punisher villain (in fact he was MAX Punisher's "Joker" if you will, Elektra was also in there right after and Frank barely made it past her, though he did manage to kill her, and Fisk, I wouldnt' expect that storyline, maybe a mixture of the Elektra/Frank and DD love triangle scenes gotten out of MK Punisher, Thunderbolts /w Elektra and Frank, and so on). I think it'd be really ballsy to start Bullseye off as a Punisher villain first, have him come in hired by Fisk to take Frnak out before fisk settles back in. Daredevil gets involved, later Elektra who's relationship with Bullseye is now profoundly different. Anyway im rambling, sorry.
Joe Cannabyte Bro you don't have to apologize for anything! That was an amazing post! lol You make a lot of good points but I still disagree about Elektra. I honestly thought the overlapping stories flowed terrifically but that is just my opinion. I am not arguing with you and I really do respect and appreciate your opinion. I really like your point about the Hand and how they should have clearly stated why stick has this vendetta against this group. Nevertheless, I enjoyed every moment of season two. There was nothing that I completely hated or disliked. Again, great post. Enjoy your day
Lexi is pretty cool; not to diminish her insight, creativity, and talent but I'm surprised she's gotten as far as she has in Hollywood being an outspoken, very authentic woman in Hollywood. Cool conversation. Marc 4 eva.
With Kevin now getting some Flash experience, I'd love to see him handle the dialogue, Marc handle the logistics and storyline and Lexi the action side of a comic movie property. Maybe a Nightwing or Batgirl feature? That would be one hell of a creative team.
This episode sold me on Marc Bernardin as well. He does surprisingly well on his own, but he's on fire when he has a guest to play off of. KEEP IT UP MARC! ;)
Punisher: WarZone has been my most favorite cinematic interpretation of Frank Castle, being the Punisher!! I can appreciate the passion Lexi has for being true to the Character and story that she directs. After seeing this episode, I have become a huge fan of her artistic perspective! Thank you for another great show!!
Marc didn't see Elektra's bad influence on Matt? From the moment he decided to help her he ended up throwing away his career and personal life away for her without a second thought.
exactly, why the fuck did DD agree to help Frank murder the Blacksmith?! Bc his relationship with Elektra like Frank's outlook on crime fighting effected him. Both characters had their hand in his development.
+Josh Jones I think Marc meant bad influence on the college age Matt Murdock, not the Matt he from present day. Although I personally kinda disagree with that cause you see him steal a car and break into someones house, but I agree that it would have been more interesting if Elektra's turned him a little more "evil"
Lexi Alexander is awesome she's totally badass, cool and funny. Great interview Mr. Bernardin. Here's a possible nickname from a fellow Haitian....... The Haitian Sensation! Cheers!
"Daredevil's story isn't revenge"? Er... someone never read "The Man Without Fear" by Frank Miller. Or the original Stan Lee origin, for that matter. Daredevil literally takes revenge on the men that killed his father. Inadvertently killing the head mobster, The Fixer, by frightening him so intensely that he suffers a fatal heart attack. In the Frank Miller origin, he accidentally murders a prostitute while seeking revenge on one of the Fixer's lieutenants. It's that formative event that convinces him that he shouldn't kill. Not because 'killing is bad'. Because he lost control, and in the wake of it, Stick leaves him, as a result.
9:35 to 10:55 is what happened in Batman v Superman. This woman gets it.If you push a hero, who is a one man army too far,it gets dark. And it takes a massive sacrifice or an event to turn him back.
i was working at blockbuster when punisher warzone came out on dvd, i really liked the movie and had to explain to my customers how the movie plays like a comic book, the explanation was to provide context when watching the movie. i think now when the social consciousness is more comic like, the warzone movie wouldn't have needed any extra explanation. especially explaining how the movie is a marvel knights movie, edgier, grittier, rawer, with more liberties, like ghostrider two. the green street hooligans are great movies. i like strong women so i enjoy these movies more knowing she was involved in their realization. daredevil second season, amazing. i did missed when he got his name, i first heard the japanese guy say it..... great fatman on batman episode as always
Yes! I second what Lexi said about that prison fight in Daredevil Season 2. It was very well-choreographed and intensely realistic and brutal. Had me in chills the whole time...similar to that episode in The Walking Dead, when Rick went ham on those guys who were threatening to assault his son.
The Flare scene in Punisher WZ gave me chills. I am one of few people who went to the theaters to see it. Loved it and talked it up so much. But it was too late. Theater i went to, had 3 showings on 1 screen. Marketing from Deadpool were to market Lexie's Punisher it would've had done bank!... Best case scenario, she gets a shot at directing Dredd 2.... That be my dream director for a long awaited sequel.
Love Marc's opinions and interpretation of movies comics and everything else. I would watch a solo Marc Bernardin show where he just reviews movies. all movies.
+Reborn8303 // Not sure about that either, I think the Punisher War Zone film was the best (directed) Pun movie made (granted, they're all pretty bad). Let's remember, she directed it, but didn't actually write it.
+Reborn8303 +cjolwebdesign but Snyder has been done more bad films than good films and he still makes movies. I won't erase her for WW just for one bad movie.
I'm with Marc on this. Its tricky to have 13 hours of the Punisher. Maybe a feature movie on Netflix or 4-part series. Frank doesn't have internal conflict that writers can pull from the same way as Matt does. He is single-minded in his focus. He doesn't have regret which is why when Ghost Rider tries to do the penance stare at him, GR fails. When you try to write him as someone who's conflicted, then he isn't the Punisher. But there are def ways to write around that and have it be meaningful, but still keep him who he is. Devil in Cell Block D is an example of this because it deviates so much from the previous DD/Punisher crossover. This is Frank recognizing the hero within Matt and even going as far as to remind Matt of who he is. So to write 13 hours of Punisher and have it engaging story without it becoming a bloodbath, body count after body count is the challenge. Ennis seems to be one of the guys that get him but the best Punisher stories have always been where he's fighting with or against heroes or similar anti-heroes like himself.
An entire 12 Episode show is pushing it. Maybe Something like Luthor Second Season Fear The Walking Dead or Power but 12 Eps of Punisher is pushing it.
+Dan Bassetta And her episodes of Limitless, Supergirl and Arrow are rated well. Plus she is passionate about the source material, has made a lot more connections among comic fans since that movie came out, and admits that the show made her rethink what you can do with the Punisher. I consider those to all be important factors as well as the luke warm reception of Warzone, especially since the reception of the movie from critics seems to be positively correlated with a particular critic's knowledge of the comics, so I'm sorry if I value Patton Oswalt's opinion more highly than yours. I admit I haven't seen the movie, and I'm fully prepared to change my opinion after I see it, so don't bother trying to change my mind, because the movie will do that for you if you're correct.
patton oswalt is a comedian, whom i love. however, his opinion on movies is just that, his opinion. I actually don't care if you like the movie or not. i find it funny that you're defending a film that you haven't even seen. A movie can be enjoyable and still be bad. For instance, BvS is a bad movie, but i liked it. If you watch Punisher warzone and like it, good for you. That wouldn't change the fact that its still an objectively bad movie. Punisher war zone is an objectively bad movie. All that said you missed my point entirely. We have a REALLY REALLY great version of The Punisher now. She had her shot at it and it sucked. A punisher show should only be made by the same people who wrote for the character that appears in DD2.
+Dan Bassetta I didn't defend the movie, I defended her based on more recent evidence than the movie and admitted that the movie may very well be as bad as you're saying. Plus they might want to make another season of Daredevil and a season of Punisher at the same time, in which case it wouldn't be practical to only use the people who worked on DD because there isn't enough. Hell, maybe just bring her on as a fight choreographer or something, we might get fights with fewer unnecessary flips.
I love the scene in war-zone where the parkour guys are doing flips on the roof and Frank comes out of nowhere to blow one of them away with a rocket launcher. Great job Lexi!
Bernardin raises the same question I had about Punisher as a supporting vs main character. I was won over by him in the show; however, the Netflix Punisher is so single purpose with his "stuck in time" vengeance, where would the character arc come from? As Mark said for him to wrestle with his consciousness he would cease to be the character. Lexi threw out some ideas but it didn't quite change my mind. I'd certainly give the show a chance as Bernthall was that good in the role.
I appreciate Lexi's perspective on the fight choreography from Season 2... It backed up what I saw where some of the choreography lacked a bit, but thought they were trying to squeeze a lot of action into season 2 with surely a limited time and budget.
I tend to notice the actors faces rather than the writer or directors name attached to a movie. I think I may have to change that. Loved that Punisher film and hearing Lexi's views on action, source material and diversity was compelling. The geek-world will be a better place if Marvel give Lexi what she needs to make a series.
Ray Stevenson was a great Pun, jigsaw let it down I felt... Opening scene was unreal, straight out of Pun Max. Loved the violence ( chair leg in the eye socket )...
FINALLY. Somebody who appreciates fight choreography and speaks to it in films. OMG. I love Lexi now. I am a big fan of eastern martial art films so when I see bad fighting it angers me. When I watched Jessica Jones, I just didn't buy that she was doing those things. Mostly because the actress really didn't feel athletic at all to me so even with powers it wasn't believable. I do love the fighting in Daredevil. Best I've seen in a loooooong time. I agree it's tough to choreograph a female fighting. This was done better than most but not 100% believable. I feel women fighting needs to be shot and choreographed as lightning fast as opposed to the mix of speed and power men use. A woman with one big kick shouldn't end someone (as it was said). But, constantly blocking and counter striking until the enemy gets dazed and THEN a big kick... that's how it's done. Or, instead of knocking out, break legs and arms more to put the guy down that way.
I saw the Dolph Lundgren version shortly after it came out and have read so many of the comic books it's impossible to say. Personally I Like all the movies and versions of the punisher for different reasons. The War-Zone movie was definitely one of my favorites. I even used to read the armories.
Martial-artist, stunt-woman, director of Green Street Hooligans and Punisher: Warzone. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this lady puts a mask on and beats up criminals every night. EDIT: and just in case you're still doubting it, she was also Kitana in a Mortal Kombat Live Show!
I knew War Zone was coming out. I saw it 4 times in the theater and it was an absolute blast. It is still to this day my favorite Punisher film and Ray is right there with Jon for me when it comes to being a perfect Frank Castle. It sucks that the film bombed so badly but getting to see it so many times without a soul in the theater to piss me off was pure bliss at the time lmfao
Please tell me that Marvel has Lexi on a short list to direct either one of their Netflix projects or at the very least the Inhumans or even better yet a Punisher netflix run as she seems to love and understand the Punisher.
Just to comment on Mark's words about Elektra - I think her importance in a big scheme is that she is the only character in Matt Murdock's life who loves him and embraces him for what he is and what he represents (even though her own code is very different) and throughout the season Matt realizes it. Personally, I love that interpretation even more than what she was in the comics.
+Михаил Затрутин Great take. I think you are pretty close to the mark there.
Gotta say, any perception of Marc Bernardin as Kevin Smith's sidekick have evaporated for me.
Marc went from being Robin to being Nightwing in like 2 episodes, dudes.
High praise!!!
Yessir!
+Chad C. more like from falcon to captain america need the brothas to come up
+Chad C. ohh yes. Marc can hold the fort while Kevin is away. Also wear the batman suit when kevin is missing :P
+Chad C. I would love it if Kevin mentions this awesome comment when he gets back!
I fucking love Lexi Alexander.
+The Wilfred I think she sounds like she's been punched and kicked in the head a few times too many. But "The Punisher: War Zone" was an okay movie.
+The Wilfred amen brother
+Captain Freedom you're an idiot.
Lexi is absolutely incredible. A goddess among mortals.
I think we got our showrunner for the eventual Punisher series right here. Even if she doesn't have experience as a showrunner, you have to at least get her as a consultant.

I love Lexi's ascent. I think i'm having a little crush on her.
I still want that Chris benoit bio pic.
The Punisher is truly badass on Daredevil but the whole series has been amazing.

+Real RnB that ninja shit got real stupid fast
I find Lexi very attractive
+paul green no fuckin shit
+therubenp88 Really? There is no shit!? Well thats a big problem!...
seriously though get fucked you asshat. There was no reason to cuss at the guy.
therubenp88 .... are you quite done? I hope that 88 in your name isnt about your birth year because if so you need to catch up to your age.
Lexi Alexander is hands down one of the most interesting directors working today.
+Robert McAllister Green Street Hooligans dude, made Frodo a badass.
+Robert McAllister no
Not hardly
LMAO!!! I love the enthusiasm of the opening!
This episode was excellent! And so much like the original podcast - host, guest, life story, comic book topic...more like these whenever possible please!
i missed the interview episodes. I'm glad they're back regardless of who is interviewing. (btw we miss you kevin
Man, I could have listened to them talk for hours. Great ep of FOB :) Thanks Marc and Lexi!
I loved all of Daredevil season 2, but the Punisher stuff is the best part by far, so fucking amazing. His theme is incredible!
Goddamn he was so good this season.
omg this woman is absolutely enchanting. fuck yes. #blackmanonbatman
I like Marc and I don't want to sound like an ass but I totally disagree with his comments about Daredevil. OH!! and good job Marc! Great job hosting dude. :)
I started watching Daredevil cause of you guys, Can't wait for season 3.
Lexi is the coolest chick on the planet!
Another great interview. Thanks, Marc and Lexi.
Lexi is pretty cool; not to diminish her insight, creativity, and talent but I'm surprised she's gotten as far as she has in Hollywood being an outspoken, very authentic woman in Hollywood. Cool conversation.
Marc 4 eva.
I love this show. I have never been disappointed by an episode. Keep up the great work!
Brilliant interview. Thanks Marc!
I actually love the other Punisher film with Thomas Jane. I watch it a lot.
KEEP IT UP MARC! ;)
Thank you Mrs Alexander for Green Street Hooligans :D. It must be my favourite movie
Punisher: WarZone has been my most favorite cinematic interpretation of Frank Castle, being the Punisher!!
I can appreciate the passion Lexi has for being true to the Character and story that she directs.

I met Lexi a few years back at a screening of a smaller movie she did called "Lifted". We talked for quite some time. She's awesome.
I love Lexi Alexander. Awesome episode. Mark has really sold me on his one man show over the past couple of episodes.
Loving Marc flying solo...I love Kevin and I want him back soon but Marc can hang on his own! Great job dude!
What an incredibly interesting podcast, I'll be looking out for Lexi's stuff from now on!
PUNISHER WARZONE is the only Punisher movie in my opinion. Lexi Alexander deserves more work.
Great episode! Hope to see more of Lexi in the future! Marc is doing an amazing job solo but I definitely love the chemistry he has with Kevin!
"binged the shit out of that show" - of course we did.
Lexi Alexander is awesome she's totally badass, cool and funny. Great interview Mr. Bernardin. Here's a possible nickname from a fellow Haitian....... The Haitian Sensation! Cheers!
Amazing interview, Bernardin really holds his own
She's awesome, I Loved The Punisher War Zone (2008), she needs to direct more Marvel movies
Marc you are killing it solo, and Lexi! what a great guest! Thanks!!
Wow, I never knew anything about this woman at the start of this video, and five minutes in, I'm in love with her.

The Rageaholic He didn't really murder that prostitute, she comes back as Typhoid Mary.

omg, you guys made me fall in love with Lexi.....*goes to buy all her movies now. *oh wait, already have the punisher and green street on DVD.
My buddy was in this movie! :D
Great show Marc, fascinating guest!
War Zone was awesome, Thanks Lexi.
The Punisher deserves his own series, and Lexi should direct it!
Cool guest with some very interesting stories. Green Street Hooligans was a good film. Haven't seen her Punisher but will check it out now.

Daredevil talk starts at 30:45
Awesome interview.
Love Marc's opinions and interpretation of movies comics and everything else. I would watch a solo Marc Bernardin show where he just reviews movies. all movies.
Nice coverage Marc! Thanks for carrying on without Kevin; great shirt too! :)
Green Street Hooligans is one of my all time favorite movies!
Punisher needs his own show.
Great interview! I love her movies she's very intriguing. prime example from nothing to something! Respect!
Hey how did I miss this Awesome Lexi Alexander episode!!
It's so sad that Liongates just ruined her career. she would be making big budget movies by now
They need to make a Punisher Series with this chick directing it. She just gets the character.
+Scott Norrie She made one and it was the worst super-hero movies ever
Johnny Skinwalker
She didn't write it.
I wanna see a Lexi Alexander directed Wonder Woman with Gadot. :)
+Jie Chung Not sure about that her Punisher film was pretty bad
+Reborn8303 // Not sure about that either, I think the Punisher War Zone film was the best (directed) Pun movie made (granted, they're all pretty bad). Let's remember, she directed it, but didn't actually write it.

+Misha HJ well you might be right. and dispite doing solid work on Arrow and Supergirl she has yet to direct a good film
+Captain Freedom you must be single.
Lexi Alexander you get my respect and so much more, you did an amazing job and I wish nothing but greatness in your future with The Punisher .
Punisher : Warzone was an amazing interpretation of the comics, loved it.

Oh my god I want her to work on the inevitable Punisher show
+Zac Spurgeon punisher warzone is one of the worst movies ever made
An entire 12 Episode show is pushing it.
I'd think Patton Oswalt would be able to get her an opportunity to direct a SHIELD episode.
+Non Serviam for a second i thought "wait, that show with michael chiklis isnt on air since like 10 years. and what would patton oswald do there?"
That Punisher movie was the most delightfully violent thing I have ever seen. Props Lexi!
are we going to get this as audio?
"I don't think critics know anything about comic books" perfectly sums up BvS
+Mr Wood 0234
Well, neither does Zack Snyder.
+Mr Wood 0234 yeah pretty much
+J Jo Yep, only Snyder could make a movie called "Batman v Superman" that doesn't actually include either Batman or Superman...
"Love Line With Frank Castle" would be the perfect webisode series to accompany that show.
Nice Rockford Files reference, Marc!
Can't get enough of The Punisher & Daredevil. Lexi you are amazing!
She es amazing, i never know about her till now (but i see her job, i like a lot punisher war zone), very impressed whit this woman
I was hoping you guys would talk about The new daredevil season!!!!
Fantastic interview with an incredible Directrix, Solo Boy Wonder! Keep that Geek Flag Flyin'!
Ray Stevenson was a great Pun, jigsaw let it down I felt... Opening scene was unreal, straight out of Pun Max. Loved the violence ( chair leg in the eye socket )...
Next time I want her to talk about her work on Supergirl.
What an amazing guest!
YOU GUYS ROCK THANKS
Where can I find a Punisher under armor hoodie?????
I knew War Zone was coming out. I saw it 4 times in the theater and it was an absolute blast. It is still to this day my favorite Punisher film and Ray is right there with Jon for me when it comes to being a perfect Frank Castle. It sucks that the film bombed so badly but getting to see it so many times without a soul in the theater to piss me off was pure bliss at the time lmfao
She'd done an episode of Arrow and one of Supergirl. I kinda hope she gets to make the rounds and direct an episode of every super-hero show.
Cool, I have that exact same Punisher War Zone Film Crew hoodie! :)
Lexi seems really cool. I loved War Zone, and now I'm tracking down Lifted.
Kevin is great, but this was an awesome episode, great job Mark and Lexi.
Please tell me that Marvel has Lexi on a short list to direct either one of their Netflix projects or at the very least the Inhumans or even better yet a Punisher netflix run as she seems to love and understand the Punisher.
