In the middle of the night i just all of a sudden remembered playing this game like 10 odd years ago and went to look for videos on it to refresh my memory. I must say you did a pretty good job for such a small channel. Keep up the good work!
This is a game I will go years without thinking about, then suddenly the sheer absurdity of its setting comes back and I just have to at least see it to be sure I didn't dream it.
I'm surprised by how many people seem to be aware of Zeno Clash but never talk about it. The setting and the gameplay are pretty wacky, I'd have figured there'd be videos and forum posts about it all the time
One of the most strange fictional worlds I've ever traipsed in, and I loved every moment of it. Wonderful review, and a great blast of nostalgia for me!
I unfortunately haven’t played Zeno Clash 1 or 2, but I have been aware of them for years. I should really get them. The gameplay looks really fun, and the world is truly alien. I’ve always loved alien worlds that take everything to the extreme. I guess that’s why I like the settings of Morrowind and Dark Crystal so much. I really like just how weird Ace Team’s games are. I’ve been tracking the Eternal Cylinder and will probably play it at some point. It’s interesting how some of the stuff has a deeper message, while other things are just weird for the sake of being weird. I so wish that this game got the recognition it deserves. If only people get turned off by it’s weirdness.
I do regularly recommend Zeno Clash to people whenever I can, it's so unlike anything else I've ever come across and it's also a competent product too, especially for an indie studio prior to the indie boom. I've been wanting to give The Eternal Cylinder a go for a while but my previous PC setup couldn't handle it at all! I recently upgraded some hardware so I might be able to actually play it.
Great review! Very informative and to-the-point. Thank you for just being yourself and not trying to act like a clown, like most other game reviewers out there. Loved this!
Zeno Clash was amazing. The world it takes place in is kinda like a more serious version of Adventure Time's setting. I was so disappointed to see that Zeno Clash 2 wasn't nearly as good. They really had a wonderful world they created. It's a shame that they got a little too ambitious with the sequel and it hurt the overall quality of the experience.
6:16 oh neat, it's a helicoprion. It's almost a normal shark, except for the lower jaw. EDIT: okay, I beat the game now, took me about 3 hours. I think the $10 price tag is a bit much for something so short, but it was definitely a cool experience. It was kind of clunky in some parts (the auto-targeting really screwed me over), but overall the combat felt good. And it's rare to come across games with such a bizarre and unique visual style. I'm definitely going to play the second game now.
I was a kid back than I played this, it was one of my first steam games, insanely cheap, baffled by the look and gameplay, too bad removed from the market
replaying this game now (did not finish it b4 but wanted to play it because I saw the new Clash game trailer). Game reminds me of a fps version of Kenshi or what I like to think of if you could play Kenshi in first person. Same wild outback concept with humanoids onlything is Kenshi has androids and this game has more animal like beins but overall same kind of setting.
@@trunks10k That's interesting! Maybe Source was just the most accessible engine back when Ace Team and Arkane were getting set up, they were likely all Half Life modders before forming the studios like many other devs used to be
@@MEDYuzu doubt Arkane maybe Ace as they are a smaller team. Arkane made a few games b4 moving onto source engine. Thief, Arx fatalis were both on the unreal engine if I'm not mistaken
I randomly remembered this game and looked up review, you went over the entire story in the first few minutes and ruined the game for me. Guess I won't be picking it up on steam. Pro-tip: when reviewing a game - don't spoil the story like a book report.
No I didn't :) All that stuff I mentioned in the "What is this game" segment is revealed within the first few minutes of the game. The story is about why Ghat did what he did.

Thanks so much!
I'm always on the lookout for more secret games like this so if you have any recommendations let me know!
@@MEDYuzu This was very well done! Check out Cryostasis: Sleep of Reason.

Clash: Artefacts of Chaos is coming out very soon too! I'm quite excited, I need to play Zeno Clash 2 first
great video MED zeno clash is a hidden gem, I hope you get to review the second one.
I put the entire Ace Team catalogue onto my wishlist after I finished Zeno Clash so expect more in future

It hasn't been removed?
You can still get the free demo too!

I really have to try Kenshi, it looks fascinating
@@MEDYuzu I just realized both fps games with good melee combat are both made on the source engine.. Zeno clash and Dark messiah.. wonder why that is

I cant find this for the 360 anywhere on ebay
I don't think physical editions were ever printed on 360, it may have been an XBLA exclusive
@@MEDYuzu oooh i c. Time to fire her up then
Great review! I'd love it if you took a look at my own Zeno Clash retrospective if you get the time.
The only experience I had with this game was getting it linked with Garry's Mod
Anyone else here because of the prequel?
Clash: Artifacts of Chaos? Fantastic game, here's to hoping for more from Ace team, and more support to Ace team to make that possible.
Anybody come here from the GMOD Idiot Box?
