Wow thank u Sean!! I have been thinking how to propagate my crystallinum and clavinerum. This is so helpful. Your video is always extremely informative and fun to watch. 👍
Just to let you know - LECA is already designed to share moisture, the clay covering of the balls will wick the moisture up through capillary action so you don't need the twine. That's the whole point we use LECA not random river rocks as a growing medium. You can use the wick to bring water into the container if it sits above it but not through the container if there is water at the bottom, it might be making it too wat actually. Also, I don't think your plant minds the algae, those tropical plants are surrounded by algae in the rainforest canopy all the time, I'm sure it could grow happy with it sharing the container. Were you feeding it consistently? LECA doesn't store nutrients so you need to feed the plant a lot.
so interesting and informative! thank you Sean. i live in a similar climate to yours so it’s refreshing to hear about your plant care methods and supplies :)

Do we need to add any sand or compost? Can you please give me a rough percentage. I have a very old plant with really huge leaves, some reaching even 10 inches long. I live in a pretty dry place, so I want to get my soil mix correct.
Still can’t figure out why my Anthurium is growing very show. Hope I have done it right after I repotted with new potting mix this morning. 😓 Thank you for sharing propagation step by step. Your effort and dedication are amazing.
I never go on scheldule or measurements. Its been raining daily here so I havent watered them at all. But usually I water then lightly everyday. I do look at the soil and leaves for any signs of overwatering. So far so good 😊
Hello ! If you see algae like this in your leca pot it's because the pH of the water isn't enough acidic and you use glass jar wich is really not ideal for Semi-hydro, root aren't made to support a lot of light (they are not pigmented) but micro-algae LOVE it, so put it in opaque pot is really idea to prevent the algae to appear :)
you probably already know this, but water + sunlight/ warmth + clear vessel = algae. so to prevent this you could use a net pots inside a mason jar or clear jar, that way you can still see the roots but you can change out the water and wash the jar frequently, or use an opaque container with a net pot and this will prevent algae from growing. I love to see the roots of my plants as well, so I just put a net pot or clear orchid pot inside the mason jar, with Leca and the plant, and then set that inside the mason jar where the water is held
4th...!!! ✌😋 Heyya Sean, some questions : 》I placed my Anthurium in shaded area with bright indirect light, and somehow most of the leafs are facing downward -- why is that? 》is it okay to place A.Crystallinum in direct sunlight? because I noticed that my plant are not as green as yours -- is it considered "chlorotic"? 》is it okay to trim the crispy edges of the leafs? I like to have my houseplants all manicured for aesthetic reason... 💅😋 》that pants, are those one of your own design? -- looking very nice... 👍😊
1. Check for pests and the roots. Maybe they are just being droopy. Or maybe give them some time to adjust the leaves towards the light? 2. They dont like direct sunlight at all, unlike philodendrons and monsteras. 3. When you trim them be sure to leave a bit of the crisp there. If you cut into fresh leaves, the edges will crisp eventually and it will spread. 4. I bought those pants from a roadside stall in Bali 15 years ago 😀
I’m taking mental notes on how to take care of my anthuriums once they arrive from Indonesia to the U.S. (Very nervous lol). I’ve never used spagnum moss before but I’m afraid of overwatering these bad boys, can you bottom water these in sphagnum moss? Also, can you use pure coco husk with charcoal?
Yes you can bottom water sphagnum, but keep in mind they get very compact and soggy wet... i would water them lightly if I were you. You can mix coco chips with charcoal :) charcoal is more fast draining but provides good anti fungal/bacterial properties
Thank you, very informative. I already have clarinervium anthurium, and the crystallinum is very hard to find where I live. Looking for forgettii though.
Hi Sean! Just found your channel and I love all the sharing! I wonder if you have any tips to save my Crystallinium Dark Form. All 3 leaves are turning crispy brown at the edges *sad* can I trim off the crispy edges?
Thanks for giving such in depth coverage of the plants you talk about. By the way, a few videos ago you said you were giving up lecca balls...just do it!!! 😁
Hi Sean, greetings! I have a question that has been the reason for me for a while now to not propagate any of my plants that need to be propagated, so the question is that after the propagation is done, will the new leaf grow in smaller size or it will continue the bigger size? Does this also applies to philodendrons, monsteras, and anthuriums? I hope that you could help me, and great video btw! Many thanks.
The top cutting may produce smaller leaves for the next 2-3 growths, depending on the vigor of the plant, your environment, and how much roots it already has etc. air layering it would be the best way to ensure uninterrupted top growth after cutting. The middle vines will definitely put out tiny baby leaves and plants. Which is a good way to set back their age in my opinion. Its nice to have backup younger plants. Because lets be honest, no plants can live forever. They age too and can die from old age although this life cycle is often not as clear cut as with mammals. 😀
Hello, its propagated the same way as more aroids. You can take single node cuttings. If the node has some aerial roots it can go straight into moss or soil. If it has benign aerial roots do water propagation. This species is really slow to propagate... so you have to be patient
Yes - practicing acceptance, learning to be patient, letting go, listening... plants teach so much

I never go on scheldule or measurements. Its been raining daily here so I havent watered them at all. But usually I water then lightly everyday. I do look at the soil and leaves for any signs of overwatering. So far so good 😊
omg this video is so helful thank you Sean! :)
The thumbnail was so cute! I’ve just started with leca and so far it’s been really easy, but algae buildup is so gross lol
Thank youu that makes a lot of sense!
you probably already know this, but water + sunlight/ warmth + clear vessel = algae. so to prevent this you could use a net pots inside a mason jar or clear jar, that way you can still see the roots but you can change out the water and wash the jar frequently, or use an opaque container with a net pot and this will prevent algae from growing. I love to see the roots of my plants as well, so I just put a net pot or clear orchid pot inside the mason jar, with Leca and the plant, and then set that inside the mason jar where the water is held
Thank youu 🙂
This is gold 👍🏆
Anthurium 👍😍 (Anthurium Regale is the best ❤️)
Do you use fungicide on plants after the rain? Nice video Sean, I love the way you show the progress in growth in one video.
Yes I do. Leaves, soil, everything. Once a month ish
I love your videos. I sure wish I lived in your climate. I’m in Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦 and it’s very cold today. 💚💚❤️🪴❤️💚💚
Whoaaa stay warm. I miss the cold weather... 😅
4th...!!! ✌😋
Heyya Sean, some questions :
》I placed my Anthurium in shaded area with bright indirect light, and somehow most of the leafs are facing downward -- why is that?
》is it okay to place A.Crystallinum in direct sunlight? because I noticed that my plant are not as green as yours -- is it considered "chlorotic"?
》is it okay to trim the crispy edges of the leafs? I like to have my houseplants all manicured for aesthetic reason... 💅😋
》that pants, are those one of your own design?
Simply outstanding!
Thank you 😌🙏🏽
My heart broke a little when you said you forgot to propagate the baby growth😭😭😭 it didn’t have a chance to be its best self!!
I think he actually scooped it up w/the soil mix when he grabbed it off the table when potting the mother plant. I think it survived!
@@danipatrey443 It's unlikely. if it was buried very deep it likely rotted. :(
I would love to see a jewel orchid vid sean! X
Yepppp Im still growing them out so I can propagate them for youtube 😀
Thank you from Australia!!!
Thank you, very informative. I already have clarinervium anthurium, and the crystallinum is very hard to find where I live. Looking for forgettii though.
Whoaaaa thats so interesting... its hard to find clarinerviums here
Hi Sean! Just found your channel and I love all the sharing! I wonder if you have any tips to save my Crystallinium Dark Form. All 3 leaves are turning crispy brown at the edges *sad* can I trim off the crispy edges?
Do send me photos on my IG @bo.tan.ist it might be important to see whats the cause of the crisp before you cut them off.
Thanks for giving such in depth coverage of the plants you talk about. By the way, a few videos ago you said you were giving up lecca balls...just do it!!! 😁
Haha yes these videos were made at the same time. Currently Im down to two plants in leca.
Good video. What is that spiky plant behind you to your right in the first of the video. It looks really wild! Tnx
Its an encaphalartos if Im not wrong, it existed the same time as dinosaurs
Love this video! 💚💚💚
Loved the video. Beautiful plants. So far I've not had any success with sphagnum moss propagation.. its either too wet or to dry.😢
Haha I had the same problem before too but they are great once you get the hang of it. Ill do a dedicated moss propagation video soon
Tolong buat ttg cara mempropagasi dari bonggol.... krn skrg byk yg jual bonggol di market place. Mks
Oooo ada video nya anthurium magnificum tapi udah 6 bulan bonggol nya ga keluar tunas 😅
Waduh…. Jd gmn donk…?? 😄
Omg.I love your plants. It’s hard to find many of your plants species here in Japan.
Thank youu 👻
Looooved this video!!
I love your videos and I just bought monstera peru cutting and I don't know how to propagate it .would you please help me ? Thanks
Hello, its propagated the same way as more aroids. You can take single node cuttings. If the node has some aerial roots it can go straight into moss or soil. If it has benign aerial roots do water propagation. This species is really slow to propagate... so you have to be patient
This makes me want to cut up my Anthurium Arrow, thanks for the video, Sean!
😀😀
