@@Daniel-ld7xs It was never made clear what happens to humans and other mortal races after death. Elvish souls go to the Halls of Mandos and wait to be reborn in Middle Earth. @@jessiehogue. If you look at the video, he warns them before quietly summoning the Men of the Burrows and taking no pleasure at all in watching the slaughter.
@@MLaak86 There is a difference between 'taking no pleasure' in something and being reluctant to do it. One does not imply the other. His only reluctance to using them was because they were murderers and oath-breakers. As for warning them, that is simply a thing anyone decent would do before resorting to violence. It's only natural, not showing reluctance as much as honor.
@@jessiehogue. I have to disagree, he could have simply sicced them on the Corsairs without a moment's hesitation, instead he warns them and then just watches with a regretful expression when he sees he'll have to use the Men of Barrows.
So many people in the comments going "Just make them wipe out Mordor no problem" please keep in mind that the Oathbreakers were ghosts. Sauron specialized in necromancy and dark magic to control the dead (thats why the Nazgul and Barrow Wights deferred to Sauron). Bringing an army of spectres to Mordor would have been suicide because the moment they were close enough, Saurons magic would easily subvert their will and have them slaughter the armies of Man. What Aragorn did was use his brain and his honor instead of going "Lets bring undead to fight against the guy who specializes in controlling the undead". One of Saurons many titles was The Necromancer after all
@@HEROWARSLESSONS because that's quite literally one of the biggest things Sauron specialized in? The Oath won't mean much if the power of Saurons magic is stronger. And trust me,as a Maier, it IS stronger
Indeed, putting an army of specters within reach of the greatest necromancer/dark magic user of this time would be quite dumb. This would join the pantheon of "wtf strategies of Middle Earth" with *"Don't let our bow cavalry kite them, but let's charge oliphants head-on on open ground" by Théoden And "Let's make firewood with the trees of a well-know enchanted forest populated by conscious, mobile and particularly territorials thousand-year-old giant trees" by Saruman
debating about soft magic. . . They could wipe out mordor if author wants them to, or they could have wiped out mankind. Debating about these things are silly.

This is probably the most OP army ever. They cannot die, they travel fast across land/water/air, they have large numbers, they can move through solids and they have intelligence.
well basically they are cursed undead waiting for their king to return. they are the inspiration for the undead in warcraft 3 frozen throne if you are familiar with the pc game. of course LOTR came first written as a book
Well... It was probably the scariest place in Middle Earth and Legolas was already at least 2000 years old, when Gimli was only about 500-600? Love the dynamic though.
even worse in his afterlife which most Dwarves take as a Norse Mythos, their ancestors would curse them out at the dining hall for all of eternity. Which of course is Valhalla or a similar fashion of it.
@@CountMorningstarthat is my favorite part of the appendices. I can imagine a still young Legolas caring for a very elderly Gimli, it would be so sweet.
For those who don't know the lore, the ghosts' oath was to protect Gondor's interior, not fight outside of it. Their oath was fulfilled. If Aragorn tried to keep them to fight outside of Gondor's borders, they could have cursed Aragorn like they were cursed since he would be breaking his part of the oath. At the time of the first war with Sauron, the one these guys were going to fight in, Gondor's borders reached Mordor, but they no longer do. On top of that, Sauron specializes in controlling the undead. Wraiths and ghosts included. He is the Necromancer. Taking them there to fight Sauron would have been a bad idea for a lot of reasons. They would have fallen under Sauron's influence.
The citizens of Minas Tirith witnessing Aragorn's appearance while commanding the Army of the Dead was a key element in the acceptance of him as Isildur's true heir.
Arguably the clincher was Aragorn's ability with crushed athelas to restore to full life the limbs of Eowyn, Merry and Faramir. As it is written: The hands of the King are the hands of a healer.
They never saw the army of the dead in the book. Aragorn arrived at the battle with the southern armies because there was no longer a threat from the sea.
only that it wasnt as much as i like the movies, i feel obliged to point out, just like @mark Davis says, that the army of the dead dosnt fight at minas tirith, but instead it destroys the umbar hoast that is attacking the south of gondor. aragorn then arrives on the umbar ships with the men that defended the no areas that are now no longer under threat; and it is these men that tell the story of the horror of fighting alongside the dead, but that aragorn managed to rally them regardless, motivating them to not only accept him as their leader, but also to leave their now safe homes and fight in a battle they most likely would not survive in for all they knew.
You people are morons! He only did that in the film, and wasn't Tolkien's intent at all. Aragorn would never have blindly charged the forces of Mordor.

Aragorn actually holding true to his word and not trying to keep them to help in the next fight is honestly one of the things that stood out for me about him and his honor. So many otherwise would have tried weaseling their promise. And never as a king/general "with what army?" cos they just answer "this army" 😂
You are correct, but you are also wrong, imagine how many Gondorians were killed in the battle at the gates of mordor? So many souls were taken, when Aragorn could have just asked them to go to mordor and destroy all of the orcs around Saurons tower. I dont think the spirits would complain, they are immortal afterall. But yeah for the sake of plot, they had to be "gone" before the fellowship arrived at the gates.
@@EternalKvK it's exactly that - how many could they still have killed if he compelled them to stay. But that wasn't the deal he made with them. He stuck to the deal he made, and didn't try to "creatively" misinterpret what he said to keep them.
@@EternalKvKtaking them to the gates of the man called The Necromancer would be a very bad idea. They would no longer be your army, they would be his and you would lose the war.
Except, that's completely wrong. They answer to the heir of Isildur, not the king of Gondor. For most of history, the kings of Gondor were descended from the line of Anarion, Isildur's brother, and they would not have been able to command the Dead.
The end was one of the innovations of Peter Jackson for the movies, but one that I heartily approve of. In having Aragorn have to face the temptation to betray the oath he made to the deadmen of Dunharrow, we see a bit of a parallel with what will have to take place to destroy the Ring. Gimli is being pragmatic and voices the temptation that anyone would have to face: you have found an invincible army, betray your oath and keep them around a little longer. You can even rationalize it under the "lesser of evils": you're only going to betray them for a "little while longer" and just so you can beat Sauron. But in betraying his oath to the dead, Aragorn would become JUST AS BAD as Sauron; if he is not going to fall to evil, he must honor his oath and discharge this army that has proven so valuable. And I love how Viggo Mortensen says "I hold your oath fulfilled. Go, and be at peace." with genuine affection. Like I said, not in the books, but done by Jackson to great effect.
Technically what stops the army of the dead from being like hey we killed those guys on the ships release us. Isn't the minis Tirith stuff technically extra too?
It was more a case of, “these guys are appetizers, the real force is at the capital itself. Us mortals just need a fast way of getting there, with an element of surprise.”
@@amanhasnousername1614 That's how it actually went in the books. After the corsairs were defeated Aragorn held their oath fulfilled and boarded the ships with men from the southern fiefs to sail for Minas Tirith.
How infuriated do you think Sauron was when he heard that he lost the battle for Minas Tirith because of a bunch of ghosts? Sauron, the Necromancer, got beat by ghosts. Sure, he was still confident that he'd win the war, and he was absolutely going to, but it still must have stung.
"The witch King of Angmar. Defeated by a shield maiden! And a Hobbit." That first part would be surprise and anger, but knowing it was a Hobbit I'll bet filled Sauron with fear.
@@BookofGates omg i didn’t think about this! but it makes sense! because up until then, sauron probably wasn’t concerned. sure, he didn't have his ring, but two hobbits did, and hobbits are easy to defeat, right? except by killing the witch king, merry showed that hobbits *aren't* easy to defeat. meaning the two hobbits with the ring whose destruction could kill him actually stand a chance of destroying it and him.
@@lauraknight5973 Sauron viewed anyone and anything he didn't understand with fear, suspicion and malice (a lot like Saruman towards Gandalf the White). He knows of Gandalf, but very little actually "about" him. I think he genuinely thought Aragorn or Gandalf had the ring, thus explaining their "no hope" last stand at the black gate. Only too late, far too late did Sauron realized "the magnitude of his folly." Love all thing tolkein, highly recommend the anniversary illustrated edition of LOTR. In the book, the Nazgul all realize the Hobbits have westernesse blade and only the Witch King is brave enough to attack Frodo and stab him, Frodo only survives because he "resists to the last."
@@lauraknight5973 Actually, yes. This trilogy does a poor job of portraying it, but, Frodo was actually well tuned with the ring and could effectively use its power while he wore it. In fact, when certain others looked at him, they could see a powerful and terrifying white aura surrounding him. The elves could sense both great power and great evil coming from him. While climbing Mount Doom, Gollum attacked he and Sam (again) and knocked Sam out for a moment. After Sam gained his footing again, he saw Frodo as a figure in a glowing white robe with a wheel of fire in his chest where the ring was. Out of that wheel and Frodo's mouth he heard "Begone, and trouble me no more! If you ever touch me again, you shall be cast yourself into the Fire of Mt. Doom." To this day, it's unknown if that was Frodo or the ring itself speaking through him. Sauron had reason to fear at this point because he knew SOMEONE was using his ring, but somehow he could not find it. He only knew that a truly resilient Hobbit had the ring and he was on his way to destroy it. By this point Sauron was quaking in his boots, truly.
It's exactly the same as when me and my brother would play up for Mum, call the "You wait until your Dad gets home" as a bluff but.... He was already home.

as someone who read the books after viewing the movies I really have grown to understand why this is such a rare gem, where several changes were made or added in the movie from the book, that fit so well with the story, and even enhance it
Agreed. The way they held the sword until the 3rd movie was also very effective. In the books, Aragorn just has it right away and it doesn't add a lot to his character or story. It's broken and then 2 chapters later it's reforged off page and only mentioned occasionally
Thank you for being so kind and understanding about the movies... I have seen to many comments in videos about the movies where those who read the books first start dissing every little detail and just being rude to everyone who disagrees with them.... So thank you.
@@whyareyouhere3698 I am tired of that too! I thoroughly dislike purism just as much as Tolkien thoroughly dislikes allegory. I do understand where book lovers come from, and I have read up on the lore too, but these movies mean so much to me, so many other people, and to an entire frickin country that I can't simply favor one over the other. They are both equally impactful in different ways. Maybe the book does stuff better, it has the time to explain the history, the cultures and geography, plus going more into Denethor would have been nice to explain why he is an a-hole, and I wish the Elves led by Haldir arrived at the Black Gate instead of Helm's Deep, a callback to the Battle of the Last Alliance with Elves and Men. Though Honestly, I prefer the way the Army of the Dead was handled in the films. I am fine with the Stone of Erech thing not being included as that would rely on more backstory. The City of the Dead, the center of the ghostly activity, equally makes sense for Aragorn to arrive at. The Dead Men going to Minas Tirith and then having their oaths fulfilled to me also makes sense, as though most of Gondor (especially its capital) has been saved due to their help. Bringing in the various men and lords of the fiefs as reinforcements, or the grey company, would again rely on lots of explaining and screentime to do. Some even moan and complain that the army was too OP, well what do you expect from thousands of intangible beings, who only can be struck by Anduril, are similar in power to wraiths, project terror before them, and wield all manner of weaponry?

This is a very subtle moment, but I love how Legolas is protecting Gimli as the skulls come crashing down on them and even pulls Gimli in front of him to make sure he escapes. Those three were truly inspirational heroes. Not sure how they made that whole journey dragging their massive balls along.
This trilogy will hold up long after we are dead. Our ancestors will still be watching this as a "classic" and there will likely be TV stations that run this a hundred years from now as a special.
It is still compelling viewing and flawless filmmaking, with effects that hold up after 20 years (which is an eternity in CGI vernacular). The performances and production and emotion are all still gripping!

@@jameshunsucker2147 Not really, if you had an invincible army, you'd make a bargain to wipe out your enemy's forces, not just 1 battle. Instead of wasting your countrymen's lives on a heroic suicide charge. Any footsoldier would know that even if they'd cleared out the pelennor fields, there'll still be a large reserve force in mount doom. And Aragon knew he couldn't hold them forever, if they turned against him, there's nothing to stop them from rampaging through the world. It was more of a business transaction between them but he could have asked for more from the beginning.
I learned not too long ago that Virgo Mortensen was not the first choice for the role of Aragorn. Stuart Townsend was chosen to play Aragorn, but due to his refusal to learn how to ride a horse, or rehearse fight scenes, Viggo Mortensen became the runner up. Mortensen already knew how to ride a horse and was more than willing to show up for rehearsals. IMO he was far better suited for the role🙂
I love when bad guys say that line. If you see few men defiantly standing in your way telling you to leave, never ask “you and what army?” It never ends well
I have a theory. When in the confrontation with the ghosts and they nearly get buried in an avalanche of skulls, I believe each time a skull rolls into the middle it’s that ghost’s skull voting yes to join with Aragorn’s cause. Since they’re all voting yes, it turns into a bunch of avalanches.
It's just funny to me thinking that the ghosts could have been patiently waiting behind the wall waiting for their cue to run out saying "Should we rush now?" "No he hasn't said the line yet."
Aragorn proved to be an honorable King and deserving of the throne. This undead army represented a lot of power and he could have strung them along, but he released them true to his word. Edit: I don’t think the undead army could do anything to Aragorn. First he was from a true line of kings and that is why they served him in the first place. Second, once they agreed to servitude, I think they were bound to him and had to serve him until he released them; otherwise they could just force/threaten him to release them from their eternal torment without any need to actually do anything for him. Just a guess though.
I reaally think he shud hv atleast said after we defeat sauron or at the end of the war , like i think u wud hv required it when then went to attack saurons forces. A battalion of invulnerable ghost soldiers is exactly what u need.
To anyone saying that "Aragorn should have kept them around". He gave his word. He was never going to break it. There was a reason he is the rightful king.
@@Stevie-L-n8g No need for that, just saying that Sauron could’ve easily swayed them to join his side with a little “hey, look how I treat my undead? And you can get revenge on your oathbreaker.”

This was always my favourite part of the films, converted well from the books. The sorrow and pain of the Ghost Army, but fulfillment and honour restored then release and pardon, excellent, brilliantly done. It gave me the creeps when i first waded through all three books when i was first gripped and enthralled at the age of ten. I used to re-read them at least every three years, i'm now 66, still love the story, but its easier watching the films.
Yes, except the Oathbreakers are movie exclusive. In the book Aragorn rallied the grey-company, 31 dunedain rangers of the north who are very much livings.
I am 10 years younger than you. But I too think I read the three books at a similar age to you. They are probably my favourite literary pieces in my life.
Aragon practically whispering “this army” which only he, legolas and gimli could have realistically heard is my favorite part of this sequence. my boy always stunting around his friends😂🤘🏼
I love the symbolize in the blade and then Aargon just chocking the ghost king. Imagine the number of people who entered to try and call on their oath, but were unsuccessful cause they didn't have the blade. And then our Ranger solidifies that this is indeed the Sword of Gondor and he it's King by being the only being to grab hold of the traitors in however many decades or centuries they've lied dead.
You are a hundred Orcs. You see three people. And they seem to confidently advance on you. I think it would make anyone second guess themselves and look around to see if they missed something.
They were already scared sh*tless by the possible implication (in their point of view) of an entire fleet of corsairs being routed by nothing but a man, a dwarf and an elf. But they totally didn't expect an undead army.
“The dead do not SUFFER the living to pass…You will SUFFER me.” To properly translate this line it is important to make clear first of all that the verb “to suffer” does not refer to being subjected to pain or physical or mental suffering. But in fact is the archaic meaning of “to suffer”, being “to allow someone to do something”. -Dwarrow Scholar
Not only does it mean "to allow", but almost kind of, "allowing someone to do something you don't want to let them do", adding more weight and authority to Aragorns statement.
Considering it's a movie with elves, wizards, dwarfs, and some crazy dude that has his power tied up in a ring, I suppose we can ignore it. Although since Aragon was the coolest dude alive, he could pretty much do what he wants
Legolas in aragorns moment of grief immediately rushes to his side. I have a friend like that and I would come to his aid at any time. Haniel your my best friend
I remember as a kid watching this scene, my cousin said that maybe all the skulls falling to the ground were them casting votes behind the scenes. Sort of them discussing amongst themselves if they would fight or not. I thought that was actually kind of a cool thought lol
i've heard that theory for 20 years now. Peter jackson never said anything but I am guessing it may be true if one thinks about it. "You survive this skull avalanche of ours dude , we fight"
In the story, the Dead did not go to Minas Tirith. They only secured the ships. Aragorn travelled with more than Legolas and Gimli, though. Through the passage of the Dead, he had 30 Rangers of the North with him, as well as the two sons of Elrond. Once it was clear the ships were headed up the river, the coast of Gondor, where many troops had been left to garrison, didn't need such protection. Aragorn summoned these men as well, but had no way to get them to Minas Tirith in time... until he called on the Dead to seize the ships. Once they had done this, they were released, and the ship carried Aragon and his new army straight up river. The Dead had no power to physically harm, only to terrify. The pirates, scared out of their minds, dove overboard, to either swim to the far shore, or to drown.
Actually they might have been able to physically harm (Legolas didn't know whether their blades would still bite or not), it was just that their presence alone was so effective that they didn't need to use anything else but fear.
True, but as we all know, Peter Jackson did take some liberties with the story in the Movie. The Movie scene did give more of an impact to the story than it would have if he had followed the book.
Seeing the part where the sword Andúril makes contact with the King of the Dead's sword shocked me big time and I was like, "Holy shit!" when that happened, and it made me wonder if Andúril had that ability to clash with spiritual swords like that during its time as Narsil and after hearing the King of the Dead saying, "That blade was broken" upon seeing and recognizing the sword Aragorn wields I now realized that Andúril did indeed had the ability to clash with spiritual swords during its time as Narsil.
Not only is Anduril magic, but it is being wielded by a person who's direct family tree includes: Sindar elves, Noldar elves, Maiar (Melian), Earendil and Elros. It can be argued that Aragorn Elessar partly existed in the supernatural plane. Just a thought.
If I was in Aragorn's place, I'd hold their oaths fulfilled, but add any man who wishes to remain and continue serving his king until such time as Sauron's defeat would be welcome under his banner. That way the ghosts aren't _forced_ to remain, thus allowing them to move on to their rest, but those who want to remain can, without any ethical issues and thus bolstering his forces.
Arguably the single noblest thing Aragorn ever did - it's not for nothing that this was the moment when he truly became King. I always thought that the sword itself didn't have much to do with his ability to fight the ghost king - or at least it would have only been able to do so in his hands. Only the true King could release them by holding their oaths to be fulfilled.

I love the way Tolkien selects the words for this masterpiece, "line" can refer to the blod line of Isildur was were think broken, the same way that "line" can be used for "sword".
1:21 I don't know how many times I've seen this scene, but it always gives me goosebumps. This was a change that I totally stand by. Elrond revealing Anduril to Aragorn on the eve of battle just give the blade more power in my mind. It means so much more to the events that are unfolding than it did in the books. IMO.
But he never denied who he was. He carried the Shards of Narsil. Declared himself to Eomer in the Riddermark. Wore the ring of Barahir. Pelennor, when the Standard of the King is unfurled and Eomer throws his sword in the air in joy was a scene I was eagerly awaiting. Missed it. Aragorns determined stare as he exits the ship almost makes up for it
Good editing. If you understand Irish folklore concerning a concept called a "Geas" it pretty much turns out just like this. You swear an oath or have a "Geas" placed upon you in which certain actions can result in your demise or have you cursed. Aragorn couldn't wisely get them to go further than strictly the defence of Gondor. To force this ghost army to go any further risks having this curse reverse itself back on Aragorn and his friends. This geas is based upon honour after all.
I like how these guys are cursed for all eternity and how nobody dares have any interactions with them...then in dire need, Aragon has the courage to summon them and get their service thru a bargain. They prove VERY instrumental in winning the battle and are finally set free. The look of relief on the undead kings face when they vanish is tru gold...
In the books they exit the mountain pass with the army of the dead, invisible to all but still coldly there and they travel fast through the region with still inhabited villages which close all doors and windows while the Dead and living (Aragorn had also at about 30-40 rangers with him along with Legolas and Gimli) passing by in the darkness.
This movie is amazing. Tbh, it's one of the few movies that you can watch the trilogy every weekend on a nice tv and sound system and get the chills everytime.
This is their meeting after meet Aragon and deciding to join the battle: Ghost King: Our king is back, we have to fulfill our oath, I am tired of living with this condition, no beer, no lady and no party for eternity , we have to join him in battle, our job is just to run over enemy, anyone agrees ? Army : *YES !!!*
fun fact for the scene with the "skull avalanche" flooding into the cave they actually took a mold of a real skull and made 2000 copies of it! one of the best practical effects scenes in movie history imho. these days its way too easy to have a mountain on props flow like water using a simple computer program like Blender. but imho the easy digital route will never look as good.
Aragorn is a true and brave king. Every battle, he's the first to initiate and advance towards the enemy. And everyone else follows him into battle. Courageous!
Imagine being the Sauron within this campaign. You have gathered all the forces throughout the known world. All the might and tactics are on your side only to see your enemy pull out a huge or the ubermacht of deus ex machinas | literal hordes of ghosts upon you. As a necromancer Sauron must found that insulting lol!
Maybe he was waiting for a challenge. As doing all of this stuff with those ugly people, likely tired him out. He needed someone or something to come from left field to break up the monotony of “winning” so easy. His horsemen that wore black bed sheets, were 2nd to none! Just imagine having to dress up in that garb, and have to ride around on horses to chase hobbits for a ring.
Fun fact: the person who got shot by an arrow at 06:34 is Peter Jackson- the director, writer, and producer of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit trilogy.
I love me some (Aragon), that man is so fine, I'm a fan of All The Lord Of The Rings Movies, The Hobbits are so lovely and The Adventures as I watch the movie is My favorite, The Stories and much more.💯🎭❤️👑
Totally agree. If Godfather 3 had been as good as the first two you might have had a case for it being the greatest trilogy (Godfather is one of the classics and both it and Godfather 2 won Best Picture). There really haven't been that many great film trilogies where all 3 films are phenomenal. I guess the ones that I think of are The Apu Trilogy of Sayjit Ray (Panther Panchali, Aparajito and The World of Apu), Krzysztof Kieślowski's Three Colours Trilogy (Blue, White and Red). I also have to give a shout out to an unexpected trilogy: the 2011 Planet of the Apes staring Andy Serkis. Amazed how good this film series is, with each film better than the first, but since they are talking about a possible 4th film in the series, I'll have to hold my judgement.
For those who said Aragorn should've hold them until the last battle but let me ask you this: Would you rather bring with you an army that thousands years ago, feared Sauron and switched their allegiance to him? Sauron who, even in his weakened lighthouse form, still holds sway over all dark forces in the world and can easily influences them on a whim, be it with his sheer willpower or false promise of release, both of which Sauron definitely excels at. Even if Aragorn wasn't a just and good king. It would still be a massive risk to have an army that the enemy potentially holds an instant remote control over.

The citizens of Minas Tirith witnessing Aragorn's appearance while commanding the Army of the Dead was a key element in the acceptance of him as Isildur's true heir.

Anduril is a special sword indeed. The King's sword.

Doom."
To this day, it's unknown if that was Frodo or the ring itself speaking through him. Sauron had reason to fear at this point because he knew SOMEONE was using his ring, but somehow he could not find it. He only knew that a truly resilient Hobbit had the ring and he was on his way to destroy it. By this point Sauron was quaking in his boots, truly.

The City of the Dead, the center of the ghostly activity, equally makes sense for Aragorn to arrive at. The Dead Men going to Minas Tirith and then having their oaths fulfilled to me also makes sense, as though most of Gondor (especially its capital) has been saved due to their help.
They would've probably tried to kill him and the others if he didn't

I've Watched this trilogy a thousand times and I'veyet there's two little words that every time I hear them spoken I get GOOSEBUMPS... "We Fight".
When I read the books as a teenager, I thought this was one of the most chilling lines.
"The way is shut, it was made by those that are dead, and the dead keep it. The way is shut."
"Now You must die"
هذا الساحر الأعور الدجال يأتي في اخر الزمان يحارب عيسى ابن مريم وعيسى ينتصر عليه ويقتلوم ويخلي العالم من الشر
@MS With stranger aeons, even death may die.
That line is in a very good World War Z fanfiction detailing a recon group exploring North Korea.
Sounds they locked themselves in the mountain or fled there while others imprisoned them to bury them alive.
Part of the books or not, I liked how Aragorn kept his word and released them. This is why he was a good king 👑.
I know I’m a nerd, but I get choked up and teary eyed every time I watch certain scenes!

I loved that so much.
In the book Aragorn rallied the grey-company, 31 dunedain rangers of the north who are very much livings.
hows life at 66?
Hope you are doing good my man. 🖤
Keep on keeping on, frank. My man 🤜🤛
I am 10 years younger than you. But I too think I read the three books at a similar age to you. They are probably my favourite literary pieces in my life.
The ghost army was one of the best bits in the book, portrayed brilliantly in the film.
I don’t care what anyone says this is the greatest Trilogy ever
It is
We don't get to see this kind movies
In today's era
Aragon practically whispering “this army” which only he, legolas and gimli could have realistically heard is my favorite part of this sequence. my boy always stunting around his friends😂🤘🏼
Put aside the Ranger Aragon, become who YOU were born to be.
Damn that line never gets old.
Aragon had a look of determination on his face. I liked the fact the orcs looked scared when they saw him, Legolas and Gimli
You are a hundred Orcs.
You see three people.
And they seem to confidently advance on you.
I think it would make anyone second guess themselves and look around to see if they missed something.
Probably thought there was even more elves and dwarves on the ships. Or felt the presence of the ghosts approaching now behind them.
In books they feared him too
Also in books Aragorn was 2 meters tall !!
They were already scared sh*tless by the possible implication (in their point of view) of an entire fleet of corsairs being routed by nothing but a man, a dwarf and an elf. But they totally didn't expect an undead army.
Could have had a slight thing to do with the 10,000 strong ghost Army behind him 🤔🤨
“The dead do not SUFFER the living to pass…You will SUFFER me.”
To properly translate this line it is important to make clear first of all that the verb “to suffer” does not refer to being subjected to pain or physical or mental suffering. But in fact is the archaic meaning of “to suffer”, being “to allow someone to do something”. -Dwarrow Scholar
I thought I heard him say " The dead do not suffer the living to ask "
You are righ t with the meaning of the phrase "to suffer"
Not only does it mean "to allow", but almost kind of, "allowing someone to do something you don't want to let them do", adding more weight and authority to Aragorns statement.
@Abu Ibrahim Ahmad to suffer and to tolerate are the same verb in hebrew as well
@@Hotsport_RugbySimulations so, how do you explain the construction "the kingdom of God suffers Violence"
Can't we just ignore that Aragon not only blocked but choked a ghost
Yea it's the sword
He is the king, he has the power over them.
Considering it's a movie with elves, wizards, dwarfs, and some crazy dude that has his power tied up in a ring, I suppose we can ignore it. Although since Aragon was the coolest dude alive, he could pretty much do what he wants
his blood(genes) is from the former king which is his father. the same bloodline = the line is NOT broken.

Narsil is magic
Yeah, I bet it did. Plus, it can also clash with mordor ring wraith sword blades too as well of course.
Not only is Anduril magic, but it is being wielded by a person who's direct family tree includes: Sindar elves, Noldar elves, Maiar (Melian), Earendil and Elros. It can be argued that Aragorn Elessar partly existed in the supernatural plane. Just a thought.
This is so epic, I had to stop the video because I’m gonna go watch all of these movies again. Don’t want to spoil seeing it again.
"An Elf goes underground when a Dwarf dare not? Aw I'd never hear the end of it.." - Gimli 🤣
The face at 5:33 you can't even tell he is acting , he looks genuinely destitute and with out hope. Absolute acting perfection

IMO.
I disagree. Changing Aragorn’s character to where he never wanted his destiny was one of the worse changes made to the story.
@@scottdorman9967 it’s always been like that.
@@scottdorman9967 That wasn't a change.
Aragorn always WAS worried he'd end up like Isildur.
This was peak cinema, there will never be nothing that even comes close to that again. Unfortunately.
Because only Aragorn as the heir of the one to whom they gave their oath could declare it fulfilled. As only he could wield that sword.
@nancyjanzen5676 well aware...
This scene was Soo magnificent and Epic...brought goosebumps

In the books they exit the mountain pass with the army of the dead, invisible to all but still coldly there and they travel fast through the region with still inhabited villages which close all doors and windows while the Dead and living (Aragorn had also at about 30-40 rangers with him along with Legolas and Gimli) passing by in the darkness.
“We fight” is right up there with “And Rohan will answer”

these days its way too easy to have a mountain on props flow like water using a simple computer program like Blender.
but imho the easy digital route will never look as good.
And it was filmed AFTER the Oscars where it won best picture!
"They WILL answer to the King of Gondor" ...badass phrase
Fun fact: the person who got shot by an arrow at 06:34 is Peter Jackson- the director, writer, and producer of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit trilogy.

Without any doubt or argument, the greatest trilogy of films ever made.
