Driving a 6.0 PSD is like dating in high school. One minute you're so in love and things couldn't be more perfect, then the next minute you're full of anger and you want to scream until your eyeballs pop out of your head.
I bullet proofed my 6.0 F250 and had it professionally done by bullet proof diesel of Arizona. The total bill parts and labor $4689.63, this included installing ARP head bolts and new head gaskets. When the EGR cooler was pulled off the engine and opened up you could see the clogged cooler veins inside and one of the seam welds was just starting to show micro cracks. The mileage was right at 52,497 miles, the average EGR failure for a 6.0 is about 50,000 miles(according to what I have read). I knew this when I bought the truck used for $12K with every intention of bullet proofing it. I have been really happy with the power and performance and that same truck now has 100,022 hard towing and hauling miles and runs like a champ. I will drive it until the wheels fall off.
Mine lasted 81,000 Miles. When my EGR Cooler Blew i Fully Bullet Proofed and Added Many Performance Upgrades. When i did the EGR Delete. Still Love my 6.0 Powerstroke, it ain't going No Where, At $45,000 i Always Said First and Last Brand New Vehicle.
I love my 6.4 too. I built it myself because that's what I do for a living. That is a great price for the work done on your truck. We charge about 4000$ for egr cooler or delete. That's canadian so it would be like 2700us. About.for a cab off headgasket and full bulletproofing job we charge anywhere from 17000 to 27000. Canadian depending on what is done. We also do not lift the cab for just egr cooler as the video says. I can do an egr cooler in 3 hours there is no point to pull the cab. Egr is right under the intake manifold. Easy job.
@@badass6.0powerstroke10 if you guys ever need tubos i recommend the v2s screamer big twin turbo kits from bd diesel. I have had mine for 3 years and it makes 750+ hp all day long. You can beat mustangs while pulling a 25 foot flatbed loaded. Ford diesels build torqu like crazy it doesn't take much to make 1800ft lbs of torque.
I have an 06 powerstroke with 145k in it! Recently had it bulletproofed when I had an exhaust manifold leak. Installed stainless steel egr cooler, are studs , stand alone oil cooler and scan gauges. Truck now runs great and I can keep an eye on all systems. It was expensive but cheaper than a new truck!
2003 F350 6.0 here! Bought the truck about 3 years ago, oil pump and injectors went 6 mos later, decided to do the full bullet proof add on while all parts were accessible...you are right, big bucks!! But the truck should last longer than me!!
Hey Sean and Kristy. I have owned (2)-6.0 Ford Powerstroke diesels Trucks. The one I use to tow our 43 foot Fifth Wheel SandPiper RV is a 2007 Ford F350 4X4 single wheel super cab long bed painted white like your SeeMore. I have experienced the same woes as you have with my first truck. When we decided to travel, I took our 2007 truck to Buford Georgia and let Powertstroke Specialties do a complete engine work over to change the truck from a maximum 125k? mileage truck to a 350k plus mileage truck. The price I paid to have this work done is a fraction of what a new truck would cost today. I now tow with the confidence and security because I have the most valuable thing in my life in the passenger seat, thanks to Bill Hewit and the techs at Powerstroke Specialties.
Hey Brian, you can go to powerstrokehelp.com for information on the dealer proofing process. Bill Hewit owner of Powerstroke Specialties has many videos on youtube outlining the work he has created to improve the longevity of Ford diesel engines. You can see the interview on my personal truck on Bills youtube channel "Hawaii-5-0".
Bill is definitely the man when it comes to Powerstrokes, especially the 6.0. I remember watching the video of your truck on the powerstrokehelp channel....awesome, and nice to meet you! I had my early '04 Excursion Bulletproofed here in Arizona. I've had great luck since then, but if I ever need any more extensive work, I'm going to ship it to Bill and let him and the boys at Powerstroke Specialties have at her. Take Care
I got my 6.0 on January. it wasn't well maintained. bringing back up is expensive. and thanks to your video. I went ahead and had the service done before anything bad could happen. parts and labor is $1,000. that includes new OEM motor mounts. thanks, guys.
Back in the day when we where towing our 24 ft. camper we had a 1983 Chevy Suburban 6.2 diesel we drove the wheels off that truck. The only problem we had was that it eat up the starters. About every 18 months we had to replace the starter until I found out that my glow plugs weren't firing correctly so I fix it problem and never had any more trouble until we had 389,000 miles on it... The mileage dropped from 24 MPG down to 15 MPG with in a very short time and the engine ran very ruff.. We found our that the fuel sending system was totaled. It was just wore out, and the price to fix everything was out of our affordability... A preacher friend of ours had a used car lot and he had a beautiful 1992 Dodge Ram Conversion with very low miles for less than the cost to fix our beloved Suburban that we drove from 1985 until 1998... I loved that 6.2 diesel We soon fell in love with the van... LOL... And we drove the wheels off that one. 190,000 miles it went bye bye... LOL
Get a Ram . My 2015 2500 with Cummins has been a dream so far. No issues at all with the DEF. up to 15 K miles between oil and fuel filter changes . Does not use much Def except when towing. It is a beast !
i am a owner operator of a small auto transporting company i have a 6.0 and i love it I've never been stranded anywhere. but i did notice a oil leak over the oil cooler while i was in Jersey city i drove back to Virginia before i fixed it . i just redid all the seals on top of my engine oil cooler an all and i never took the cab off an had no problems at all
To move the truck in this state, press the accelerator slowly and give more pedal as you feel picking up speed then stop after few minutes. Repeat process until truck picks up more speed with each try. Got me to where I needed to go at least.
What I did to bullet proof my rig: EGR cooler (aftermarket...got mine off Ebay and is awesome), oil cooler, PTC value, turbo rebuild, oil pump, coolant filer. I will let you research why I did all the above other than to say, a must do to go 200k+. If you did not get the larger orifice EGR cooler, a coolant filter is a MUST. I'd clean out your coolant system with the Ford coolant cleaner NOW. The factory EGR coolers are poorly designed. It is a sand casting in the block that clogs up the cooler and causes an chain reaction. Because the bearing in the turbo gets washed out by coolant, it will go within the next 50k miles. Pull it off your self, not difficult, and ship off to a few guys off Ebay ($350). I installed an aftermarket turbo wheel (billet aluminum that produced an additional 3-5 PSI on the boost, much lighter, less turbo lag.)
+The Truth and the Life thanks, great list of mods and great advice! I will be talking to another diesel shop tomorrow about our truck. If we keep this truck we'll definitely be bulletproofing it. 👍
Long Long Honeymoon The reason I love the 6.0.....it is truly the best motor out there. Reason being, next to the Duramax 2005-2008 era, is you don't need Bluedef. In addition, the new high tech, high smog diesels will have long-term issues due to the emission complexity and what not. Good luck.
+The Truth and the Life thanks, it's great to hear you say so, when we hear so much negativity about the 6.0. I agree that the new engines will probably have their own issues as the age!
Most of the negativity you hear about the 6.0 comes from one of two types of people. The first being owners that neglect proper maintenance, fail to monitor specific parameters (deltas in coolant temp and oil temp), or beat on their truck and act surprised when shit hits the fan. The second group of people are either Duramax or Cummins fanboys that have never owned a 6.0 (you know, the people that always "knew someone" or had a "buddy" with a problematic 6.0). Don't let these guys that have most of their identity wrapped up in their Duramax or Cummins deter you, do a proper bulletproof with a competent mechanic and the 6.0 will last for years to come. I've yet to experience any issues with my 6.0 since it was bulletproofed.
Sean & Kristy: So sorry 'bout SEEMORE's dead EGR system. I'm sure that all of us tow campers have a special connection/love for our tow vehicles,(with a given name of course), no matter the make/model. You were lucky to be near a park/repair shop when it happened. We could probably devote a whole f-book page to our break down experiences, but just like the great times we have, the poopy times are part of the experience as well, and can sometimes even be amusing.('if you don't laugh, you will go crazy' theorem) Luckiest woman in the world and I have been following you kids in your adventures,(here on f-book; not in a weird stalking way), and thoroughly enjoy the video's highlighting your LoLoHo experiences. Wishing y'all safe travels, good health and happiness! Dave-n-Trish in SoCal.
my 2l engine had an egr issue its not just a big engine problem, but blocking off the pipe for it (egr defeat) was a 'free' fix then brought its emissions from scraping through a pass to walking through it easily
So sorry Seemore fell ill! I also have a 6.0 PSD, and mine has 187K plus miles on it. I replaced the EGR valve myself about 20K miles ago. I closely monitored the EGR with an on board diagnonstic(OBD Fusion). Once the EGR started consistently operating sub-par, I replaced it. So far, knock on wood, I am good.
EGR valves fail all the time - my Subaru passed E Check with a bad EGR valve. my Ranger has a bad EGR but I drive gas vs diesel. I really don't notice it doing much to the overall performance - I had it replaced but I've managed to kill another valve.
i know a guy that had one in my condo complex. a 2008. it went south but he knew it would so he saved his money new engine an trans. 650 hp at the rear wheels but he spent 16000 dallars
I think folks might be confused in that this video is from what happened a while back and was fixed at that time. Currently, as I understand it, the truck is having a stiction problem. I think upcoming video(s) will address where that issue stands as of now. At least I am pretty sure that is the status of this video and what is coming.
They guys, if I can help you with anything, please let me know. I'm a Truck reviewer and would be happy to answer any questions you may have. Thanks! I've followed you guys for sometime.
Thanks much, I'll be checking out your reviews of new trucks. I'm leaning towards bulletproofing the one we own, but I want to learn more about the new models before we make a final decision.
Long Long Honeymoon: just consider the cost of bulletproofing as well as the additional money you're putting into your rig. A major failure of a Turbo, emissions component, or fuel system could make it a regrettable decision. Bulletproofing is great but does not truly prevent future breakdowns, it simply reduces the risk of some occurring as often.
Man your lucky that's all that went wrong! When my egr valve went bad on my 2007 it took out the complete ac syestem, blew up my degas bottle, and clogged the egr cooler up! Costed 1300 to get it deleted but now that it's off it runs so much better, improved mileage about 3-5 mpg
I have had several friends with the same year and problems. Ford bought back a couple of them. Lots of cooling issues. I love my F250 gas truck but own a Chevy Silverado Duramax as well. So far , so good on both.
I had an '06 F350 and the HPOP (High-Pressure Oil Pump) went out in October of this year. $3,500 and a week later I picked it up and while driving home two injectors failed. It had 330,000 miles on it. Needless to say, I traded it in. I got a 2016 F250 with a 6.7-liter diesel. OMG what a difference in performance. This is the writing on the wall for you. If you can afford it, I recommend getting a new truck.
I'm sure the new trucks are nice. I may speak to my Ford dealer and see what they offer, before making a final decision on Seemore. At the moment I'm leaning towards bulletproofing our 6.0, but I will talk to a dealer first.
Have 160,000 miles on 2001 Dodge Ram Dually with diesel. Spent a total of $800 in repairs since buying it new. New trucks have way too many emission restrictions on them.
Yeah, the irony of these emissions restrictions is they cause the engines to FAIL, so people are forced to buy NEW trucks (which appears to be a lot worse for the environment than just using an older truck). Most of the problems with modern diesel engines seem to be related to the emissions technology.
That's one of the reasons I bought a 2002 5.9L 24V CTD. It's the last year before emissions on a great engine. My truck's exhaust is clear as water, it runs great, and there's nothing there to kill it once you take care of a few minor known issue like the low pressure fuel pump.
I have 2 issues with our 2012 F-350 DRW, overcab lights hum like a harmonica (avoid them on your next Ford at all costs) and the idler pulley/belt squeaks when cold - highly annoying. Other than that we love our 2012 F-350 and look forward to a 2017 F-250 or F-350 to pull our future 2017 AS Classic.
I just wanna throw my 2 cents in (cause that's all I have after fixing my 6.0) but honestly that happened to me too, all I did was got a new oil cooler, deleted the egr and got real head studs and bolts and now I'm making 526hp and 1012lb/tq on a stock transmission! (with tunning of course) you don't have to spend money on a brand new truck just make sure you get a good mechanic and quality products, I got mine from sinister diesel and had a local shop do my repairs and couldn't be happier. I have customs tunes which is something I would recommend to save more fuel or tow WAY better and the only other recommendation would be to get a mishimoto aluminum radiator and intercooler. Good luck and hopefully you keep the 6 liter :)
Wow! That's monster HP and torque! I think you are right that an EGR delete is the way to go. I really like our 6.0 -- it tows like a champ and still looks great --but I want to feel confidence we won't have another EGR failure.
If you still have it,Leadfoot diesel over in Georgia. They fix ALL the problems in one go for $5200. Studs,EGR delete,Oil cooler,Fire ring the heads, etc.
Thanks, I will talk to Leadfoot tomorrow. We are currently talking to different diesel shops about this job. I want the truck in good running condition for 2017.
Long Long Honeymoon they will do you right. the fire ringing is what pushed me to them to begin with. gives extra clamping force on the steel ring in the gasket to seal the cylinders. when I had mongo done(F550) they found 2 injectors bad in the contribution test. grey material in the filter that turned out to be failing tank liner that caused the injector failures. think it was like 4 days total from when they pulled it into the shop to when it was back together.
Thanks, I noticed the o ringing described on their site - very nice! I met with Powerstroke Specialties (in Buford) this past week and I think they take a similar approach. But LeadFoot's price is better. I will probably end up replacing all injectors. Whoever ends up doing the job, I plan to shoot a lot of video of the process. I will talk to Leadfoot and see what they say. We are also talking to a shop out in Texas that seems like a good outfit.
The 6.0 liter is a very reliable engine. The EGR cooler failures are usually tied to oil cooler failure first. There is proof that the Ford Gold coolant is responsible for oil cooler failures, as that coolant contains silicate which falls out of suspension, creates a “goo” and clogs the cooler. International who built the engine, uses/recommends silicate-free coolant. It’s a cascade of bad once the oil cooler clogs. Look into CAT EC-1 extended life coolant. A properly maintained cooling system is critical in the 6.0 liter. Add a coolant filter. Good luck. I’m a 6.0 owner as well but they can be “finicky”. I monitor my coolant & oil temps constantly. Anything over 15F difference is a failed oil cooler. When ours failed the delta was 39F! 😳😮. Luckily, the EGR cooler & head gaskets etc were not damaged. We had it towed and I replaced the oil cooler, and the EGR cooler etc since the technician was “there”. If you’ve BP’d yours you should never have trouble again!
You are 100% right about the 6.0 oil cooler. We switched to the bulletproof air to liquid oil cooler, which essentially replaces the flawed factory design. I think that overall is the best single upgrade that we have made to the track from a mechanical standpoint. it illuminates the primary point of failure.
Oh that's so bad. If I was Ford, I'd be giving you a free fix before this hit UA-cam! P.S. we're hauling with a Toyota Tundra. But then I'm biased LOL.
I'm still a Ford guy at heart, and Ford has never given us so much as a thin mint cookie. I just thought 6.0L owners (and prospective buyers) might like to see an EGR failure actually happening. This is the real deal.
Have the EGR welded shut and get a tune to cover the CEL. You've now solved many of the problems with that engine. And it will still pass emissions because the EGR barely does anything for emissions on these engines.
just to clarify the failure came from clogged oil cooler, which stopped the flow in the EGR cooler, the coolant in the EGR cooler boiled off causing the cooler to crack, coolant began venting into the exhaust which causes white smoke.
Yes, the factory oil cooler is the true weak link in these trucks. We have since switched to the air-to-liquid oil cooler by Bullet Proof Diesel in Mesa, AZ -- and it is great!
So is Seemore really dead or did the repairs bring him back from the brink? You can't leave us there - this is like a cliffhanger episode of As The World Turns...
Well now that you went through all of that, how does it run now.?I have never heard of pulling the cab to work on an engine. Maybe in a van to replace an engine.
So in a past email you had asked for advice on what to do. Lots of people gave you good answers. What did you decide to do? I had my money on a new F250 gas 6.2.
I'm still talking to diesel shops and getting estimates. I think we will delete the EGR in 2017! Not sure if we will do a full bulletproofing - depends on cost.
I'm not certain, but in some states I believe deletion is legal? Not all states have emissions checks. But I think an alternative to deletion is modification (to an aftermarket improved design). We may end up going that route.
Emissions deletion breaks federal regulations. Some states do not have inspection but that doesn't make it legal. Get the Ford gold coolant out of there, flush the engine and add the red coolant that the over the road trucks use. Then buy a Scan Gage and monitor the coolant/oil temperature differential. Keep the differential below 15-20 degrees. The Ford coolant breaks down over time and clogs the oil cooler which starves the EGR cooler of of coolant. Hot exhaust gases and no coolant equal EGR failure.
I am currently researching our options, but I think the best approach may be to replace the factory EGR system with a more reliable aftermarket alternative (or delete it altogether).
I don't think those repairs are going to solve your problem, the EGR and and the oil/cooler are the weak links, putting the same factory parts will just delay a second failure. I am curious how the head gaskets are?
It is ridiculous and completely unnecessary. On trucks and vans you do not need to pull the cab to replace an egr or oil cooler. He didn't even replace head gaskets or studs, just the egr and oil cooler. Someone probably took advantage of his lack of knowledge.
Emissions Delete is all that truck needed-& i do not like Fords especially international vt365’s & maxxforce 7’s But I do know how to make 6.0’s & 6.4’s dependable & haul ass while pulling a substantial load(period) I started my own Mobile Diesel Mechanic business after working for international trucks of Houston for years & all i can say is repairing Ford diesel trucks have paid my $2k monthly mortgage for several years-heck I’ve got a customers 2010 F250 in my driveway right now & after I rebuild the turbos & delete the clogged dpf/all emissions that’s 3-1/2 more mortgages paid for 👍🏼Thanks all you Ford Buyers keep em coming!!!!😂
Its your truck and Money, But sure wish you would have called PowerStrokeHelp in Georgia, Like everyone suggested. He could have fixed your truck for I'm sure what the dealer charged and fixed it correctly. the dealer fix will be temp,, Goodluck in the future. Yes I had owned a 2006 6.0 loved it, wish I had known Bill then I'd still have the truck.
Thanks, I think we will probably bulletproof our 6.0. My mechanic friend tell me that a bulletproofed 6.0 should be good for several hundred thousand miles (not counting relatively minor maintenance and consumables like brakes).
You mention "If you can avoid it, you're going to want to avoid it!" However, is there anyway to avoid it? Is there a preventive measure that would stop it, or at least see it coming?
I just saw this video and it was gut wrenching to watch. I just kept hoping you would shut seymore down before he hydrolocked. I hope that didn't happen but... I and you will know far more about Ford diesels than we ever wanted to. Next step on my 08 6.4 is now to get rid of the egr/ coolers. mine has been deleted for 3 years with no problems but those coolers are a ticking time bomb that sadly will eventually get us I fear.
Thanks, this vid was a flashback to our EGR cooler failure - just wanted everyone to see what happens when they go! I think we will be bulletproofing our truck before we hit the road in 2017.
huh. wow interesting. Such a shame for Ford. I almost bought a Sprinter very recently until I researched EGR valve issues with their BLuetec V6 Diesel motors as well. I believe their work around was a high idle selector switch in the cab for idling conditions. Any idea what caused this? Do you guys idle for long periods of time? I thought Ford had an auto-regen function in their diesels rigs to counter these issues? Check out the Ecoboost line of trucks, you will love them. I'm very happy with mine. Cheers.
The problem with the ecoboost is the braking. You need a V8 gas or diesel to tow. When you use the tow / haul mode in the ecoboost, it will do very little to control your speed going down hill. Then you are overheating your brakes. The new diesels have an exhaust brake that you can use in conjunction with the tow / haul mode. Therefore, you will use your brakes at a minimum. In addition, the ecoboost gas mileage while towing is much worse than a V8 gas or diesel. The ecoboost does have power and is very quick.
We tried a gasser about 10 years ago and it just didn't have the right stuff to tow our rig. But I am open to trying the more modern gas trucks - they have increased towing capacity over the years.
Yeah, we were looking at diesels as well to pull out travel trailer. We decided that the gassers are the way we will go this summer. The modern gassers have 9100 - 10500 + lbs. towing capacities. I wonder if a dealer would let you take their trucks over a pass with your trailer in tow.
I don't blame you. Although I love diesel performance (we have 15,000 lb towing capacity!) the maintenance and upkeep costs more, as does the fuel. Also, maneuvering a large truck around town has its downsides. Parallel parking an F250 is not for the faint of heart! ;-)
That's the truth about parallel parking. I'm still stunned how the 6.0 is such a disaster. We considered that one. Thanks for steering us clear from motor.
bummer. Those 6.0s make a LOT of power. My buddy dumped $11k into his to "bulletproof" it, but he still had nonstop issues. Hoping you have better luck.
the 6.0 and 6.4 were both outsourced to international. So ford decided to build their own, they make their own in europe so why give money away to another company when can make your own.
i had a brand new 05 f350 6 litre diesel it went back to the dealer on a tow truck 3 times first year by the the 3rd year i felt less power i put about 90000 miles on it was a lease so glad it went back stay away from 6 litre at all costs get the 7.3 or nothing
Just get it bulletproofed. I've owned four of them. One had 499K on it (retired it) I have one now with 315K going to do the egr delete on it soon, my excursion has 220K, another one i had sold it because I didn't need all these big trucks.
Cab off? That is no where near required for this repair. I cannot believe a dealer would want to remove the cab for this... Ridiculous. Those coolers can be done 3-4 hours by a competent 6.0 tech.
Sounds like Seemore needs to take a trip,, one way.. I'm sure all brands have some issues, but, I've had great luck with my Dodge Ram Hemi, and if you really need a diesel,, Dodge uses Cummings Diesels in their trucks! Good luck thanks for sharing.. w
thanks, and i agree that all brands have their issues. Believe it or not, I'm still a Ford guy! I love the truck overall, it's just a shame about the EGR design...
Long Long Honeymoon to bad you couldn't spend that dough at Bill Hewitts shop. The 6.0 is really a powerful, efficient and durable motor once the proper modifications are applied.
This was a while ago I guess, because now it would be drastically higher. I think that there is one aspect of the truck market that creates problems that don’t reveal themselves immediately. I say trucks and beer are about the same because people get devoted to such brands because the marketing is so good. If u look at the horsepower/torque diesel wars it is generally a pi$##$g contest that numbers rule and other things are not so important. It is one of the reasons that I feel that Toyota has not entered this fray. The Toyota has an entry Medium duty truck market (Hino) and there high hp version gets a whole 260hp and 600 ftlbs which pales in comparison with any light duty American truck. The normal version is 230/520. My guess is since Toyota has been making consumer diesel products longer than I can think of is that they found the compromises in such numbers were just not reliable long term. The one thing that Hinos are known for is, high initial cost and long term reliability, which when you’re running a business makes you money. I also think that this is why GM has taken so long to update their products. I think Ford products are very compelling because they are attractive and constantly innovating but I think maybe it might be at the consumers long term cost.
Hey Campervan Kevin. Say hello to Nomadic Fanatic and Morgan if they are still around in your neck of the woods. Just wanted to say hello to you and your four-legged family from me an my family...and critters. Very decent of you to donate the van to Eric when he was in a bind a couple of years ago. You're a good man. Take Care.
I sure hope you are able to get a good deal whatever you decide to do with Seemore. Personally I'd get a Chevy/GMC 2500, but I am a little biased for GM vehicles.
Robert Estes the shortest distance between the start of a race and the checkered flag is in a Chevy. Too bad old Seemore is living up to the Ford name: Fix Or Repair Daily. :-)
Bottom line is that no manufacturer makes the perfect, maintenance free, problem free vehicle. If they did, everyone would be driving one. I own a early '04 Excursion (manufactured in Sep '03). I bought the rig with known issues at 98,000 miles, and knew I would be sticking close to $10K or better in to it in order to get it where I wanted it. I had it Bulletproofed here in Arizona nearly 40,000 miles ago and haven't had any issues since. I read posts about people having their truck "Bulletproofed" and then complain about issues later on. Unless you have had your truck "Bulletproofed" at Bulletproof Diesel in Mesa, AZ, or had the proper Bulletproof Diesel parts installed by an authorized Bulletproof Diesel mechanic, then your truck isn't Bulletproofed...and there were probably some shortcuts taken....and you can expect further issues. There have been lawsuits by Bulletproof Diesel against shady mechanics using the Bulletproof name and doing half-arsed jobs on peoples trucks. You need to take the truck to a reputable mechanic....and I'm not talking the dealership since the dealership will just install the same factory parts that failed in the first place....such as a factory EGR Cooler vs a Bulletproof EGR Cooler, or EGR Delete. If my truck EVER fails me again, I will have it shipped from Phoenix to Buford, GA and let Bill Hewitt of Powerstrokehelp.com fix my rig. In my honest opinion, he is one of the few shops out there that will give you an honest quote up front, and give you different options and levels of warranties based on how much you want to stick in to the rig. Bill offers what he calls Dealerproofing, and I believe he recently started to offer the Bulletproofing as well (he just did a video recently on what Bulletproofing consists of). Seemore is a great truck, especially since it's paid off. I think you would be happier and your pocketbook would be happier if you stuck $7-10K in to the truck vs $75K for a new truck. If you think there are things to go wrong on your 6.0, then wait until some of that nice new DPF stuff starts to fail and wreak havoc. You have the best year of the 6.0 trucks. Bottom line is, that the decision belongs to you and your wife....just telling you what I would do if I were in your shoes. Besides....a new diesel??....You can't even hear them. Real trucks rattle! ;-) Best of luck in your decision.
I bought the tow vehicle first. 2014 MB E350 Bluetecb. 2005_2009 Airstream to follow. Kinda hard to find. This is my first SUV, I've been running MB diesels since 1980 with Archoil since Jay Leno first introduced it on his channel. Check out the UA-cam video of the ML350 and a Airstream 25 in tow. I'd love to buy American but not when it comes to diesels. Your thoughts? BTW Thanks for all the great posts on both channels.
So the monster transmission is good than better than the Allison transmissions heard it's from people's have them with the Cummins diesel or powerstroke diesel and it's will last forever
I feel your pain. I have a 2005 lemon that has failed on numerous occasions with only 120K on the odometer. I have spent 10k in repairs the last 4-5 years and now I need a 4k head gasket (2nd one) repair. Ford are the worse trucks to ever buy EVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
watched this and thought Where did i see this before???? I know garbage truck at work. Sad part was it was full. Waited a week to empty it. Not a fun day
I for one, would like to see Seemore soldier on! You have to dance with the one you brung:) IMO, Ford has the best truck. I've seen the bullet proof for around $5K. We went diesel about a year ago and our 6.7L F250 is an absolute draft horse. We call our truck Lewis and the trailer is Clark. Hope you don't mind a little different take on Seemore. We're going to get our first big trip with Lewis next year from Mobile, AL. to Cape Cod, Acadia NP, Nova Scotia, Lake Champlain, and Niagara Falls. P.S. I saw y'all on the Oak Mountain Campground map:)
haha, love the Lewis & Clark - very clever! You know, if I can find a full bulletproofing by a good reputable shop for around $5k, I think I will pull the trigger. Please let me know if you have any shop recommendations.
Mad Matt's Performance Diesel in Aledo, TX. 817-441-1252. I called and talked directly with Mad Matt himself and he does a 6L "full solution" for $4,500 out the door. He told me that it takes a week to get it done. There are different levels of work that you can get done...depends on what you want to spend. He seems to be TX. cool and knowledgeable about everything Powerstroke.
I know TX. isn't close, but other solutions are to buy the parts (Sinister Diesel, Xtreme Diesel, or Freedom Diesel) and get an off duty Ford / diesel tech. to install them for you?
Thanks! Great reference. I will definitely check out Mad Matt's shop. If we go the bulletproofing route, I would like to be able to shoot some video along the way to document the mods. Actually that part of Texas isn't too far from where my wife's grandmother lives. So, we often pass through Dallas / Ft Worth when traveling with our Airstream. In fact, we were in that area just a week ago!
Spoken like someone who has never owned a diesel. Maintenance on a diesel is typically less than a gas motor. Only oil changes and air filters. That's it. Each type of motor has it's place. For LLH it would be difficult to justify a large v-8 gas motor over a diesel for a host of reasons.
rsg1963 owned a 1997 7.3 crewcab xlt 4x4 got rid of it maintenance to me back then when I didn't have kids money didn't affect me and 3kids later it does. my 2008 f250 5.4 zero problems I do the maintenance my self. next truck is going to be 6.2 gas cheaper to maintain my opinion. my neighbors went from diesel to gas because of prices of parts and labor. there truck's were always in the Ford shop. good luck on your truck stick with Ford.
Kevin Voyer ram is cheaper if you buy one get asin transmission not the Mopar transmission. my buddy's say they give out. asin is the way to go. my buddy's have 6.4 and a Cummins both have aisin transmission. good luck and happy new truck buying or 6.0 emissions delete the Ford. take it to Bill in Georgia or Alabama some where around there good luck and I will look for your videos to see what truck you bought or 6.0 revised.
5 min of due diligence google would have told you to immediately bullet proof and monitor temperatures in the 6.0 especially if you are doing a lot of towing. I guess you guys found out the hard way.
Since the EPA has ruined American diesels, I'd get a 3/4 ton gasoline truck. F250 or GM 2500, not Ram for gasoline. Sean, research about trading old Seemore for a 3/4 ton gasoline.
thanks Taka, I'm kind of addicted to the power of diesel, but I will take a look at the gassers. I'm calling some diesel shops today to discuss the state of Seemore.
I have a few buddy that really like the 6.0, but they did all the egr deletes and did a few other mods to them. these guys use the trucks for anything from plowing snow to hauling hay, both are pretty hard on a truck. even with the fuel additive adding a little oil into the fuel will help with the life of injectors because now everything has gone to low sulfur diesel meaning the injectors are not getting enough lubrication. I have the new 6.7 power stroke and it is awesome. the 6.7 is built by ford not by navistar like the past motors have been. if you look at getting a new truck the 6.7 power stroke is the way to go

AFFILIATE LINK DISCLOSURE: Friends, making a quality Loloho video is kind of like making sausage - only slightly more violent. It's a ridiculous amount of work that typically involves high dollar camera drops, blue-screen-of-death computer crashes, and at least one angry shotgun wielding old man shouting, “Hey! Get the hell outta here!” Once the final video is posted, rewards here on UA-cam are few and far between (unless you are a masochist who enjoys being verbally abused by anonymous trolls). One saving grace is our affiliate links. JUST CLICKING THESE LINKS HELPS TO SUPPORT OUR LITTLE SHOW. Think of this clicking as like tipping - except that it doesn't cost you anything extra! If you eventually make a purchase via one of our affiliate links, we will receive a few pennies (and Sean typically invests these pennies in duct tape and video gear). Again, it doesn't cost you anything to click these links, and it's a great help to us. As always, safe travels, happy camping, and THANK YOU!
@John Peter No offense, but you seem a bit nosy. I actually did a complete video about the cost. ua-cam.com/video/egypz5muiEE/v-deo.html
Driving a 6.0 PSD is like dating in high school. One minute you're so in love and things couldn't be more perfect, then the next minute you're full of anger and you want to scream until your eyeballs pop out of your head.
lol, great analogy!
Ted Staples lol I'm at the love point..1 in 20 high school relationships last...let's hope it's the same with fords 😁
I hope your Taking Seemore to Bill Hewitt in Buford Georgia (Powerstroke help) for your most recent starting issues.
How much it cost you?
@@wilmermelgar8888Probably too late but don’t replace the egr valve or cooler,Just delete them and your 6.0 should be decent
Timothy Wisenberg What did they do to make it a 325k from 125k ?
Hey Brian, you can go to powerstrokehelp.com for information on the dealer proofing process. Bill Hewit owner of Powerstroke Specialties has many videos on youtube outlining the work he has created to improve the longevity of Ford diesel engines. You can see the interview on my personal truck on Bills youtube channel "Hawaii-5-0".
Timothy Wisenberg ok , thanks for replying. I will check it out.
Take Care
I own a 1999 7.3L power-stroke straight pipe and it has 364.000 miles still running like a beast.
I loved that 6.2 diesel
We soon fell in love with the van...
Same thing with my 2006 F350. New Ficm installed and Bulletproof oil cooler and Egr system.$$$$$$$
Andrew B Agreed! 6.0 is that perfect balance of new technology without the burdensome and complexity of today's high emission diesels.
Mark Watson clean it don't replace it
EGR valves fail all the time - my Subaru passed E Check with a bad EGR valve. my Ranger has a bad EGR but I drive gas vs diesel.
Thanks David, you are correct. Sorry, I probably should've made it more clear in the vid.
They guys, if I can help you with anything, please let me know. I'm a Truck reviewer and would be happy to answer any questions you may have. Thanks! I've followed you guys for sometime.
he's right he does! ^^
I second this reply. Big Truck Big RV has a wealth of information on new trucks of all makes and models if you are considering new.
If you have Bill Hewitt fix it, please post the video.
Ford needs to bring back the 7.3 L diesel engine. 300,000 miles no problem.
They can't to much pollution. The EPA made ford switch to the 6.0
Robert Estes I could not agree more the 7.3 was a beast and still is for those who are lucky enough to own them.
So are you keeping Seemore? The suspense is killing me! I've been waiting to hear!
I'm sorry this happened. The blessings were being somewhere safe, no one was hurt & being able to pay for the repair. Wishing you both the best. 🤗💞🤗
thanks much for your kind comment - you are right on all counts!
So how much was the repairs??
Couldn't agree more. Love my tundra...its no 3/4 ton but what I use it for it certainly gets the job done. Reliable as hell,
Avoid it if possible??? Any suggestions as to how to avoid the issue??? Did you leave the CEL on for too long without having it diagnosed? Thanks
Have the EGR welded shut and get a tune to cover the CEL. You've now solved many of the problems with that engine. And it will still pass emissions because the EGR barely does anything for emissions on these engines.
shepd3 that's what do here in norway..plug that shit and get a new tune.
just to clarify the failure came from clogged oil cooler, which stopped the flow in the EGR cooler, the coolant in the EGR cooler boiled off causing the cooler to crack, coolant began venting into the exhaust which causes white smoke.
Yes, the factory oil cooler is the true weak link in these trucks. We have since switched to the air-to-liquid oil cooler by Bullet Proof Diesel in Mesa, AZ -- and it is great!
My 05 f250 6.0 has the same symptoms but throws more white/black smoke and theres diesel coming from the exhaust. I need help
So sorry to hear the day arrived that we were expecting. Hope Seemore has a new lease on life. At least a better trade in value if need be also.
Thats tuff guys. Good luck. Enjoy your videos. Waiting to hear more.
Don't get caught ! The fine may be more than the repair was.
A complete 18 wheeler , trailer included
Is cheaper to maintain
Than one of those Fords
OK, you say avoid if you can. How do you avoid this? did more damage happen by driving it? Thanks.
I am curious how the head gaskets are?
thats ridiculous that they had to take the cab off for that!
Not normal for a Ram Cummins, thank God. Plenty of room to work under the hood of my 2016 (except to change the oil filter, lol).
It is ridiculous and completely unnecessary. On trucks and vans you do not need to pull the cab to replace an egr or oil cooler. He didn't even replace head gaskets or studs, just the egr and oil cooler. Someone probably took advantage of his lack of knowledge.
No need to pull cab for what was done. That bill should be under 2000 easy
Emissions Delete is all that truck needed-& i do not like Fords especially international vt365’s & maxxforce 7’s
But I do know how to make 6.0’s & 6.4’s dependable & haul ass while pulling a substantial load(period) I started my own Mobile Diesel Mechanic business after working for international trucks of Houston for years & all i can say is repairing Ford diesel trucks have paid my $2k monthly mortgage for several years-heck I’ve got a customers 2010 F250 in my driveway right now & after I rebuild the turbos & delete the clogged dpf/all emissions that’s 3-1/2 more mortgages paid for 👍🏼Thanks all you Ford Buyers keep em coming!!!!😂
My F-150 has a clicking sound at 90K miles. Apparently that's "normal" for my F150s year....We'll see what happens next season. Good luck to you guys
Thomas O Delete the egr, buy a coolant filter and get a device to monitor the truck.
I think we will be bulletproofing our truck before we hit the road in 2017.
hope it see more is running good since repairs.
Yep, failed EGR turns the 6.0L into a steam engine, and steam makes ALOT of pressure.
huh. wow interesting.

Thoughts on getting a non-diesel? Newer Sequoia, F-250, Titan, Chevy 2500?
Get well SEEMORE.
Yep. EGR must GO. it wasn't the EGR valve, but the EGR cooler. It ruptured.
Need to remove or upgrade the EGR cooler from BPD Bullet proof diesel.
Thanks Max, that's what I am thinking too.
Damn I, my light went on went to get code exhaust egr valve. Went to Ford ordered part but not for 4 days!!! And the fishing sucks.
bummer. Those 6.0s make a LOT of power. My buddy dumped $11k into his to "bulletproof" it, but he still had nonstop issues. Hoping you have better luck.
Agreed, the cummins is a great motor. I have a 7.3L in my Ford, and it's pretty bulletproof.
The 7.3 International was the best Ford engine...hahahaha but seriously, they should have kept outsourcing like Dodge and Chevy does.
the 6.0 and 6.4 were both outsourced to international. So ford decided to build their own, they make their own in europe so why give money away to another company when can make your own.
$11K to bulletproof? It's always someone's "buddy" that had issues and rarely first hand experience.
Yeah, no first hand experience for me because I'm smart enough not to get a 6.0
i had a brand new 05 f350 6 litre diesel it went back to the dealer on a tow truck 3 times first year by the the 3rd year i felt less power i put about 90000 miles on it was a lease so glad it went back stay away from 6 litre at all costs get the 7.3 or nothing
Just replace EGR valve EGR cooler and oil pump same as you I pay $,2650 is that a bad deal
I would trade it in asap. .
I just carry and add water everytime I’m towing. And then No towing, I’ll add water monthly.
How much that repair cost..
Why would you have it all replaced instead of removed. It'll just blow again
You should get 200,000 or more miles before any problems like that!
Jerry Daminato not on a 6.0 lol
Sounds like Seemore needs to take a trip,, one way.. I'm sure all brands have some issues, but, I've had great luck with my Dodge Ram Hemi, and if you really need a diesel,, Dodge uses Cummings Diesels in their trucks! Good luck thanks for sharing.. w
thanks, and i agree that all brands have their issues. Believe it or not, I'm still a Ford guy! I love the truck overall, it's just a shame about the EGR design...
Love the videos, disappointed you didn't tell cost of repair. CVK
It was appx. $3k.
Long Long Honeymoon to bad you couldn't spend that dough at Bill Hewitts shop. The 6.0 is really a powerful, efficient and durable motor once the proper modifications are applied.
Don't ever be embarrassed to talk about money/cost/expenses! its one of the biggest mistakes folks make!
The shortest distance between the assembly plant and the junkyard is any General Motors product.
Robert Estes the shortest distance between the start of a race and the checkered flag is in a Chevy. Too bad old Seemore is living up to the Ford name: Fix Or Repair Daily. :-)
Wouldn’t it have never happened if it was deleted?
How much was it? Someone did this to theirs n wants me to buy it from them. They claim it’s been fixed but it cost 1.5k idk wtf he’s on
That is partially why I will NEVER buy a Ford. I am a Chevy guy and there are several reasons why I am. Hope that others get some good out of this.
it is expensive to go to the dealer to fix anything. but It is not a cab off job. if I can
how many miles does seemore have
121k!
Poor Seemore! :-( Thank you for the video! :-)
We got ours bulletproofed and now we love it! Check out Bullet Proof Diesel -- they have great stuff.
Sorry to hear about this. TIme to go plant another money tree in the orchard.
watched this and thought Where did i see this before???? I know garbage truck at work. Sad part was it was full. Waited a week to empty it. Not a fun day
lol ouch... You know, these 6.0L engines were also used in a lot of ambulances. Think about it...
Runn Oft . the 6.7L ford is a very different power plant than the 6.0 and 6.4.
I'm confused. Didn't this happen a few years ago? I recognize that footage.
When it comes to truck diesel engines, think Cummins!
They take you for a ride, this isn't a cab off job lol
If y'all do decide to do overhaul get an edge delete done.
+Dylan Barnes thanks, if we keep the truck we will definitely be deleting or replacing the EGR.
kinda reminds me of the classic Don McLean song" American Pie"
Any new developments?
can a gas 6.2 pull your airstream buy that in stead. diesel is just ridiculous expensive and so is the maintenance but it's your choice.
6.4 and 6.7 has their problems too.
5 min of due diligence google would have told you to immediately bullet proof and monitor temperatures in the 6.0 especially if you are doing a lot of towing. I guess you guys found out the hard way.
+Derp when we bought our truck in 2007, google said we were buying an award winning engine 😂
Long Long Honeymoon auto journalists are the worst :/
oh no, see more you are the best
Since the EPA has ruined American diesels, I'd get a 3/4 ton gasoline truck. F250 or GM 2500, not Ram for gasoline. Sean, research about trading old Seemore for a 3/4 ton gasoline.
thanks Taka, I'm kind of addicted to the power of diesel, but I will take a look at the gassers. I'm calling some diesel shops today to discuss the state of Seemore.
Ok, looking forward to how y'all go, fix, different truck, whatever. Here's hoping you get everything right! Truck problems drive me crazy!
You wanted me to like the video, so I did. I really do not like what happened. Hang in there.
I think it's time for a new truck
I have a few buddy that really like the 6.0, but they did all the egr deletes and did a few other mods to them. these guys use the trucks for anything from plowing snow to hauling hay, both are pretty hard on a truck. even with the fuel additive adding a little oil into the fuel will help with the life of injectors because now everything has gone to low sulfur diesel meaning the injectors are not getting enough lubrication. I have the new 6.7 power stroke and it is awesome. the 6.7 is built by ford not by navistar like the past motors have been. if you look at getting a new truck the 6.7 power stroke is the way to go
They did not have to take the cab off.
