      @@Sals_Garage and everyone. 70,000 miles is considered high millage. On most European cars you must look at miles sort of like dog years. This is the same for Maserati or Alpha Romeo and the many others European vehicles. These cars are not built by robots for most of the brands mentioned. These cars are not for people trying to drive to work daily putting on 15 to 17 k miles in years. I own a F-Type and Maserati Quattroporte and never have problems with them. My primary car for daily use is a Nissan Murano and don't have any problem with that as well. Just know what you are buying and how to drive it. The issue is when people who can't normally afford these cars get them for cheap and then try to drive them like Nissan, Honda, or Toyota as their daily primary car. (Some people can get away with it though if drive with care and parked indoor in temp controlled environment). Otherwsise, you will pay if you drive these like a Japanese daily car in most cases. I have a friend that has a Nissan GTR and used it for 20k a year primary car and he also paid big time. It is also a performance machines and not made for daily high mile usage. It would be like taking a Nascar to work daily and complaining the car broke down. If you want a semi luxury every day car get a Lexus or Genesis they are great for that.

      If you don’t want the headache of sourcing parts and fixing it yourself, definitely go with a warranty or lease. I forgot to mention this car is more of a weekend car, not a daily. I wouldn’t trust this as a daily driver.

      get an XK, not many issues with our 1999 xk8 88k miles and 2008 xk, 104k miles. obviously basic things like brakes, alternator in xk8, transmission fluid in XK, only serious issue is the xk8 will need a transmission rebuilt in the future due to the f clutch reverse delaying sometimes, but 2003+ cars have the pretty bulletproof 6 speed.

    I'm sure you will agree as an owner that this generation F-Type is a modern classic. I hate the update to the current gen and wished that Jaguar had gone a different direction with the headlights or just left it alone. At any rate as with all cars there will be problems that comes with age but if it is well maintained and you address the issues as they come up, the S-Type is relatively reliable. The fact that it is a high mileage car shouldn't deter anyone from seriously considering purchasing one if they know what to look out for. That's why I would just like to say thank you for this video. It really serves as a guide for anyone looking to get their hands on this modern classic. I don't own one as yet but I feel more comfortable knowing what I know now. My only issue is whether to go for the V6 or a V8.

    I own a 2014 F-Type V8S convertible as a daily driver with 69,000 miles. In 4 years of ownership, apart from regular maintenance items, the only issues I have had were a slight leak on the differential, a known issue on early cars due to a small breather pipe which blocks over time, and a slightly leaking coolant pipe which was unfortunately deep in the engine. Both were fixed, the Diff seal by a main dealer and the coolant leak by an independent specialist. Otherwise the car has been totally reliable and is a total joy on every drive. I have owned many cars in 45+ years of driving, including 5 other Jags which were much more costly to maintain properly. The F-Type is the best car I have ever owned and one I hope to keep until I no longer drive. They are high performance means with soul and character, with that comes a certain expense, but believe me the cost is more than justified.

      For a daily driver, this car is tough to recommend. If you can get it with a warranty and keep it stock, you will be fine. A lot of the issues this car had are preventable.
      For injectors, use injector cleaner once a month or so.
      For coolant leaks, you can try removing the engine cover to make sure heat isn’t trapped near the plastic coolant pipes.
      For the rear differential, make sure to change the fluid every 30k miles.
      For the catalytic converter, you have a 8 year/80k mile warranty on them. Also if you don’t tune the car they are less likely to fail.
      Hope you can feel comfortable with whichever decision you make. Good luck and take care.

    My S has 135000 km (just under 84000 miles). I guess that, relative to your typical family soccer mom type vehicle, it would be considered low mileage. For a higher end sports car however, maybe not so much. My wife had an Outlander with 350,000 km and a Santa Fe with 250,000 km. Both were pristine when they found new homes. But they were never driven the way the Jaguar is. Ever. I drive the Jag HARD. Yes I’ve had a few pricey maintenance items - water pump, air conditioning compressor, rear control arms, rear differential seal, steering wheel buttons (when they malfunction, the paddle shifters, cruise c, menu options, etc. will all either quit working or will be intermittent). Hmmm…starting to sound like a lot, however it has not left me stranded.

They also moved the hood vents and got plastic covers to divert the water in order to not cause engine issues. They also changed the interior center air vents, so the gear didn't break as easily. Good video but sure are a lot of commenters that know very little about performance cars. First the Jag F-Types are driven nothing like the toyota's or lexus they speak about keeping but driven very hard. Its near impossible to go casual cruising in one if you have the exhaust they do. Second this vehicle is a mutli owner vehicle who previous owners did not service needs based on looking just even at the rear diff especially for a first gen vehicle. Third, it has a tune and changes to it that will push the motor much harder. I have had 911 TT's, 911 air cooled and others and I can say the V8 AWD F-TYPE that have is bullet proof compared to the money I spent on post warranty for the Porsches. The amount spent by this high mileage vehicle does not even pay for the 1 of the 2 spoiler fails I had on the 991TT.

    • @Sals_Garage
      @Sals_Garage  2 роки тому +2

      Great points 👍, I truly believe in the reliability of the F-Type as long as you maintain it, the motor and transmission is quite reliable. I also totally agree with you that these cars are meant to be driven spiritedly, unlike the so called reliable Toyota’s which aren’t meant to take the same abuse that a sports car gets.

How easy has it been for you to find the parts, like the normal wear and tear parts? I can't find any videos on the suspension system, changing the shocks and struts, changing the alternator or even changing the water pump or thermostat. I like to do as much of the work as possible on my vehicle. So how much work have you been able to do on Jag yourself and how much trouble has it been to get the parts? Thanks.

    A lot of these things are not unique to the F Type, but rather how the previous owner has treated their car. Cleaning with the wrong chemicals or abrasives can ruin finishes like the steering wheel and buttons, Some people have 50,000 items on their keychain and rack that against the paint every time they get in, etc. I always look for the signs of a careless owner when I buy a second hand car. and everyone.

      Hi, the V6 is already supercharged from the factory. There is no aftermarket larger supercharger upgrade at this time yet.

    Love my F Type!... but has anyone had any issues with random beeping/chiming, like an internal alarm. Happens randomly when I'm parked and sometimes when I'm driving. Please let me know if anyone has a clue what this is.

      Is ur tpms sensor light on in ur dash? Mine would do that when it would get cold at night but disappeared when it got hot the next day.

      Yes I’ve had this. I think it’s the passenger detection seatbelt alarm - sometimes if you have a bag on the passenger seat, the computer will briefly think someone is there, beep at you then immediately shut up and not show anything on the dashboard.

    Jag owner here, 2016 XF with the 3.0 and 87,000 km (about 55,000 miles). Only issues I've had are a leaking rad hose, malfunctioning rear camera, and a malfunctioning sunroof sensor. Mechanically the car has been lights out. Always maintained properly at the dealership. Driven spiritedly, and even took it for a track day. Love love love this car.
    The V6's are reliable. The V8's have their issues which are potentially more serious. Once you start modding tho... Who the heck knows.

    picking up a 14 base, also supercharged, whats the difference between the s and the base?

    • @Sals_Garage
      @Sals_Garage  3 роки тому +2

      Good choice. The only difference is the S has 40 more HP via software tune. The S model also has exhaust valves,bigger brakes, 20” wheels, and an LSD.

    • @Sals_Garage

      The exhaust is the same loudness. The S just has a button to quiet it down.
      As for the LSD, that is probably the best thing about the S model. I’m sure you can retrofit an aftermarket LSD or a used one if needed.
