I’ve now had my r-dynamic for three years having had it as my daily driver all that time. I never bought it for its noise I bought it for the looks, the power, the top speed and it’s utterly no-brainer fuel consumption (42mpg is usual) and besides inside the cabin you don’t hear the exhaust anyway so lay off the noise it makes as it’s an amazing car and I still get out smiling (and able to move!) every time I drive it!! It’s just beautiful and we don’t see enough of them on the road..

Most people don't know its "only" got 300hp
Its tens of thousands less than a V8
    It handles better
    It looks the same
You can get in it and drive all day for half the money you would spend on gas in a V8

I just bought the 2019 F-type with the 4 Cylinders. Love it so much it's the first car I have purchased in 20 years. Light and good mileage. I just couldn't justify getting a V-8 with gas prices where they are right now and who knows for how long.

Nice review.! This 2.0L is very much better than I was expecting. 300hp is not bad at all. 0-60 in 5.6-6.0, also not bad at all. Practically speaking, these numbers are plenty for the overwhelming majority of people (who will never track their car). Gas mileage over 30+, that's great ! I have a 5.0L n.a. XK which I love as I like the GT styling more than the F Type. My XK makes a great sound, but I am very envious of that 2.0L gas mileage....and yes, these hp/speed numbers would be fine for me. (I'm about 0-60 at 5.0sec, 385hp)

    • @gssf.gr29
      @gssf.gr29 2 роки тому

Totally agree with that. I have the 3 litre XF and honestly, you never get to use the full power of it, in fact you hardly get to use any of it the vast majority of the time. For this reason along with what you lose in practicality, as much as I would love an F-Type I wouldn't buy one - but now I just might, because in this guise it makes an awful lot more sense, and a 300HP 2 litre engine is easily enough power for most people these days. The improved handling due to lesser weight is a bonus too.

@@ryancrawford8042 Good points. But I really agree with the OP. This is the one to buy for most folks. Personally 300hp is enough for me. I'm never tracking the car, and I really hate the loud exhaust noise. Also, I don't want to get a speeding ticket so even with a more powerful car, I'll never ever fully open the taps. I just want a good Sunday morning cruiser with the roof down.😊

Right, I've found the original video, and I can't help commenting it too. 'Thinking man's F-Type' is indeed my favourite phrase here. Now, I've become quite environmentally minded recently, in all aspects. So, I was once driven in a Jaguar XF, and I was amazed how quiet that car was. I love quiet cars. I would take this car for a long journey from north of Europe across France to Cote d'Azure, or to Spain, that's about 1200 miles, hopefully in nice company. And what we would like to avoid is a headache after a full day of driving. I remember a neighbour couple near my place and they drove in a Ford Mustang 5.0. I once asked them what it's like to have something like that, the man said: 'It's a nice toy', and the woman said: "but it roars and it stinks". So, auditory pleasure is completely secondary for me, and these seem to be the last days for noisy polluting cars. (Un)fortunately.

From the "Thinking Man's" point of view it makes absolute sense. The HP/Torque numbers sound dead on. The handling for me is a plus. Its looks from every angle are stunning. Style, drive ability, sensible mpg, it's going to appeal to a lot of people. Not everyone buys a car for the pops & bangs & as you rightly said that exhaust note is going to improve. It's horses for courses at the end of the day. Would I buy one ? Probably yes. I'm old, done the big loud motors. I want something that drives, handles well & doesn't take a huge wad of my cash to get up the road. I guess I'm easily pleased, but not that easily. I like it.

In reality to drive this car with any vigour it will use just as much fuel. It would be far better crawling through traffic or sat on the cruise control but why buy a sports car for that? Tou can't just judge a car on the headline figures, even a less powerful v6 will be more tractable...add in the fact that the 6 and 8 are supercharged and this car just doesn't deserve an f type badge...this car was built specifically for Aisan markets where the tax on big engines is crazy

I am selling my Mercedes CLS (3 litre, V6). and am treating myself to my dream car - the Jaguar F-Type, and am considering my options, even the 2 litre, and this video is so very helpful. As a Jaguar fan, and owner of two previous Jags - S-Type and XFS, I love the spirit, design and beauty of Jaguar cars. After watching your video, for me, the real spirit of the F-Type lies with the either the 3 litre V6, or V6S, especially with the twin centered exhausts, and the sound. Oh man, that sound! I have loved Jaguars since I was a kid, the E-type and I were born at exactly the same time in 1961, and I have been lucky enough to get out in the second E-type ever made and visit it quite regularly. Reg number 77 RW.
I Love the F-Type, but could never justify owning one, given my daily 80 mile commute to work, which my current Jaguar handles very well with reasonable running costs.

It offers a choice to that area of the market that was missing.

Fast forward to this review and you say you may be a little jaded from driving so many powerful cars, maybe just a little but you did the car well and gave it a good review. I have often debated with myself about what car to get next. The powerful ones blow my mind and make me giddy for short periods of time but the less powerful yet still dynamic cars are just fun all of the time, without fear of losing the license in an instant. You sum this up quite nicely and I'm struck by the thought that since some smaller cars tour so well now too, I need to adjust my opinion on what it is that makes for a good car. Cheers

Regardless of engine this car will get looks. I went through test driving a mustang V8 and Ecoboost 4. After a few burnouts I found that at this time in life, the 4 was fast enough when I needed it to be for the real world. More HP than the V8s of my younger years. More interested in a well cornering car that can maintain a slightly above legal brisk pace. The V8/V6 growl will impress the fellas for which I have no interest, just the ladies that could care less about cylinder count. They cared more about Cubic inches in other departments where I feel humbly blessed. Red 4 cylnder Jag here in the U.S. more than adequate. Maybe because I’m more than adequate in other areas the sounds of V8s and power don’t matter so much. A beautiful car that handles and is more than fast enough for daily driving along with a beautiful woman to provide the only soundtrack that matters to me when my personal cubic inches get involved is all I need😂😂😂To each his/her own though.

I've driven the F-Type R and V6S on the track and loved them both.
This however actually appeals to me as a more practical, daily driver and is currently in consideration - to save $20k for two less cylinders seems fair enough, especially when you can load on more creature comforts with the extra money..
I currently drive a MY2017 XF Portfolio 25t and that is ridiculously fast for a large four-cylinder saloon - I also have a 28i Z4 and that is a scream to drive even though it's 'only' a four - I have no doubt the Jaguar would be just as much fun to drive...

Interesting car. I'm in Canada and I drive a 2017 Camaro ss with the 8 speed auto. Great car but like the reviewer said you can't hit it too hard or you're at go to jail speeds in seconds. I did drive a Camaro 1LE 6 Cylinder and the handling being a few hundred pounds lighter was darn good and had it had a heads up display I might have bought it. About 10 years ago i had a Boxster with the base engine and a manual and that thing was great fun and I kind of still miss it....it handled great and you could flog it and not go to jail. I'm not really a fan of the idea of 4 cylinders but this Ftype could be worth a close look. I really like the idea of something you can flog, something that handles well and with the increased fuel economy get good range on a tank of fuel....I'm into road trips. At the beginning of this video I thought who the hell would interested in this 2.0L engine in an F type, now after watching the whole video this engine makes more sense than the other two for most peoples ability / usage. So if you want to pose, if you think you are a racing driver by all means go for the V6 / V8 every time, but if you are normal and want a nice sports car that seems easy to live with and you most probably won't end up in the hedge with, then this 2.0L makes absolute sense - I am converted.

Was considering looking at the 2.0 just for the fuel conservation but think it’ll have to be a V6. The V8 just isn’t practical day to day but the V6 just seems the perfect sweet spot between this and the V8.

In May of 2009, I bought the very last Tan over White Sky Redline with the Turbo Upgrade Kit which pushed the stock twin-scroll 2.0-liter engine from the standard 260/260 to 320/320. I absolutely love this little roadster but, it's getting long in the tooth and it's time for a replacement.
My initial thought was the SLC-43 AMG but, it's being discontinued and I don't want to buy another last year of its kind auto. After reviewing all available roadsters I have decided on the Jaguar F Type. I am leaning towards the V6 but, I will definitely give the 2.0 a go, as I am intrigued by all the reviews which praise its nimbleness in the twisties due to the very light front end.
Thank you for this review. It is very well done. And, has solidified my determination to at least give the 2.0 a shot with an honest test drive at my local dealer before I make a final decision.

I'd get the 718 if I was into 4 cylinder engine sports cars. The F Type V6 would be the best choice unless you're into that 911 Turbo S.

It's just not fast enough :( It doesn't help I drove it the same day as the v6 400 and the v8, but it's way too slow for how it looks. Even the Hyundai i30N I drove the same day felt faster.

+Tyre Reviews I can imagine when driven back to back with its big brothers it would feel really slow 😥

Nice video Mr Ped. I like it, all the looks and comfort with less running costs, yet still a good mover.

One of the reason they having 2.0L is because of the road tax price in some countries especially Malaysia. The bigger cc, the more money you have to pay for the road tax. The 2nd value for this low cc ⁴³ also a little bit higher than 3.0l and above.

What was the verdict after all? 5.5 second to 60 mph, 39 mpg, 155 mph, almost 300 bhp, almost 300 lb ft. The one to choose if Daily Driver?

It certainly makes this a great option for a daily or company car.

300 hp used to be big numbers back in the day. I bet if they lightened it it would be a really really quick car.

Spot on review pal. I am totally on you with all points. It’s defo the 2ltr Audi TT market.

    • @jabiqq
      @jabiqq 7 років тому +1

I drive a 2 ltr TT daily (although with an aftermarket downpipe and stage 2 320hp) and was disappointed after a test drive of a V6 F-type (base model). It felt quiet, heavy and slow with slightly outdated interior. I love the looks, but it didn`t live up to the expectations. I did like the firm suspension & I must say the V8 version sounds amazing. But a 4 cylinder version at 50k.. a lot of better options on the market unless buying purely for the looks.

"I've always liked the F type layout inside", makes it sound like you've been driving them for the last 40 years!
