I was into hard rock, I missed too much great singing like hers, would have been so nice to meet her or see a live performance. She was also very easy on the eyes. A true soprano. No one could touch her. Best voice I've heard .
@@robertparker6654 I like her version of Ring of Fire much more than Johnny's. I love how haunting her voice can sound. I have several of her albums and CDs. I saw her once. I worked at a dinner theater and Johnny performed there every year. I brought him a glass of orange juice once. I got to go into his dressing room Anita and Helen were in there but they were way in the back so I didn't actually meet her but I saw her kind of close up and it was a thrill. I did meet Johnny when I gave him the orange juice. He actually said those famous words, "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash" then he took the orange juice with 1 hand and shook my hand with the other. I almost melted right then and there.
Beautiful lady with a beautiful voice, very talented family, they deserve the title of the first family of country music sadly missed this generation has passed into glory,
Absolutely beautiful song, by an absolutely beautiful lady, with the loveliest voice. If you listen to the words carefully, this lovely song says so much. Have just seen in the comments that Elvis Presley and Hank Williams senior were in love with her. Not surprising, as she was called "The Appalacian Angel." She reminds me so much of my beloved Aunt Susan. Love this song and the wonderful photos, they are to be treasured, just like Anita Carter.❤ .
The Carter family has preserved an important heritage of truly Americanmusic, and Anita's voice is, in my opinion, the best among them! Thanks for posting this.
I think she had the most beautiful voice l ever heard age old story wast recognised till she was gone elvis cash all said it what a singer she was them them high notes no one could touch her marvellous
I never heard much about Anita Carter till I watched the old Grand Ole Opry Show Videos shown here on You Tube recently. It got me interest in those old singers, besides Little Jimmy Dickens, who I used to listen to regularly over the radio before he passed. Anita Carter had a very domineering angelic voice of all the Carters. It is sad that she passed away at the age of 66 back in 1999. The "Appalachian Angel" is a very fitting description of her and her angelic singing voice.
Not one voice before or since can usher you into the confines of her nuances, diction, timing, and that voice. Melt a block of ice from a hundred yards, and freeze it again in the next sentence. Where are the voices like this today? There are none, and never will be. This like Patsy Cline, and Patty Loveless are once in a lifetime. This is once in forever voice. You should hear this on a set of massive Tannoy loudspeakers. With a set of McIntosh tube amps, Mac tube preamp, and a tube moving coil pickup. Played on a Thorens turntable. Let those tubes warm up and sit right in front of the focal point and let those tubes talk to you. Nothing like it.
You cannot expect anyone to appreciate country music unless they have lived it. I am older than dirt , so I have lived it. However, anyone who does not love this song with Anita Carter is an incomplete person.
If that isn't a perfect voice it'll do. Heard a lot of singers over the years but this gal is very special. Easy to see why Elvis and Old Hank Williams were in love with her.
