Anita Carter has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard. She is top. There 'has never been a more beautiful voice anywhere in the world. She is the best there is. Her voice is incredibly gorgeous beyond words.

Growing up in Australia I feel sometimes we were denied listening to great singers such as the beautiful Anita Carter and the great Mother Maybelle and the Carter sisters . Then you tube came along and I just can't enough of their beautiful music .

Listening to Anita Carter is an experience from when she was just a youngster until she passed away. Awesome is the word that comes to mind. Just love this.

There are few singers that have such emotion in their voice , this lady puts a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat every time. Perfection.

Anita does justice to a song written by the great Johnny Cash.

I don't think it really matters that it was written by Johnny Cash, except that he probably wrote it with a Carter Sister singing it in mind.

L'Ange des Appalaches. Très bon titre de noblesse pour une grande Dame de la chanson.

    Mountain Lady
    Johnny Cash
Mountain lady do you sit on your front porch in the cool of the day
Mountain lady did you think your kids would ever come back to stay
Mountain lady does the columbine still twine around your door
And did you ever get a rug
To cover the cracks where my diaper drug on your wooden floor
Oh you Appalachian lady once I was your little baby
And you rocked me in your homemade rockin' chair
Since I heard the wild goose callin' I have done a lot of fallin'
Mountain lady someday I'll come to you there
Mountain lady does the country church bell ring on Sunday morn
Mountain lady do you still wear that old apron ragged and torn
Mountain lady on winter nights before our old fireplace
As you look into the flame do you ever call my name and do you see my face
    Oh you Appalachian lad.
    Mountain lady

She probably had one of the best voices of any country music singer. However, one can't compare vocalists of different genres. Most fans of Anita Carter don't know names like Maria Callas, Dame Joan Sutherland, Marilyn Horne....and vice versa. Rather than say "this is the best of all time".....I think the more intelligent thing to say is "this is one of the greatest."

.....what a gem ! Thanks for posting. Need to find a lyric sheet for a few of the words I can't quite make out. Do you know, did she write this, or who did, or is it traditional ?

***** k, I see it's Johnny's tune, but I actually prefer her version; it's more haunting, and I prefer this more sparse arrangement to hearing the Tennessee Three rhythm section playing behind J Cash.
