  • Emma Kenny presents a poignant exploration into the life and tragic murder of Judith Barsi, a child star whose potential was extinguished by domestic violence. This episode delves into Judith's promising acting career, her memorable roles, and the escalating abuse at the hands of her father, József Barsi. We examine the tragic events that led to the murder of Judith and her mother, Maria Barsi, the psychological factors contributing to the family's demise, and the aftermath that left the nation mourning. Through Judith's story, we address the critical need for awareness and intervention in cases of domestic abuse and the legacy of a young talent whose life story became a call to action against family violence.

    I've said this so many times over the years to so many parents; "You want your children to be more successful than you, it's the natural order and so rewarding!". Help your children to shine by sharing the knowledge you've accumulated thru the years! And enjoy their success as part of your own! ❤

      Listen I tell people all the time when they ask how I do it taking care of the kids the way I do that im counting on this paying off one day! I better be living with my son in the future & treated like a queen bc ill tell ya what... I earned it! 😂 so yes Im hoping that he does VERY VERY well!

    Geez, how insecure of person do you have to be to be jealous of your child's success? Rest in peace, little angel.

      Oh believe me, it’s more common than you’d think. 🫣 There’s no shortage of narcissistic parents sadly, taking credit for their child’s success & believing they’re entitled to their child’s money. 🙄

      I think he felt emasculated by his own daughter's ability to bring money to the house. If his wife would have a better paying job thank him, he would have acted the same

      And also parents who push their child to actualize their (the parent’s) unfulfilled dreams when the child doesn’t share those dreams. I get that that isn’t the case here, and, if anything, mother did that a bit, but I don’t doubt for a second that if Judith had hated it, Maria would have not pushed it. Judith loved it and Maria living vicariously through that was perfectly ok. That’s not what I’m talking about.
      I’m talking about parents who force their kids into their own shattered dreams despite the child clearly not having the propensity or desire for that future.

    • @BeckBeckGo
      @BeckBeckGo Місяць тому +3

      @@meanpersona4686 I mean, I’d love it if my child could pull that kind of scratch. Don’t get me wrong, I’d feel guilty about using any of that money to better the household, and I’d be constantly making sure she felt safe and happy doing it, wasn’t experiencing any signs of burnout etc. but my god, imagine what a gift it would be to have a child like Judith, who is not only happily earning money doing what she loves, but was also, by all accounts of her, an absolute delight of a human being.
      That man was a vicious crybaby who appreciated nothing life gave him. Life gave him an amazing family, a wonderfully talented and loving child, and a shot at total financial stability with little effort on his part. And all the crybaby could feel was jealousy.

    Thank you, little ducky, for not only the joy you brought me, but also the joy you brought my sons. I will always remember my oldest (25) saying “little Foot, Mama!” He watched every sequel ever made. I miss those days. ❤

    Aw this poor little angel - I was OBSESSED with “all dogs go to heaven” as a kid - it came out when I was maybe six years old? I adored her character and associate that movie with happy loving memories of my grandparents’ house. Finding out years later what happened to Judith devastated my heart. She deserved so much more.

  • @notmyselfusee
    @notmyselfusee Місяць тому +5

    It just hit me that I watched those movies over and over as a child and not a single time that I watched them Judith was alive. Somehow that hits so hard.

    I remember reading about this little girl because I loved ‘Ducky’ in ‘Land Before Time’. as a child. I watch it with my own children now and it always makes me sad to think of Judith. Such a sweet voice and a beautiful girl. Cannot stand children being exploited like this, she should have been enjoying her childhood, not working! So heart breaking knowing what she was going through behind the scenes. She deserved so much better 😢

    • @savvystarfire6667
      @savvystarfire6667 Місяць тому +7

      Just my opinion but I'm not sure this was a case of exploitation, her father hated that she earned more than he was able to by the sounds of it, and it doesn't sound like the mother pushed her hard into anything, she was scouted in a fairly natural way, at the ice rink by a camera crew. She was able to play in her garden at home, spend time with her mum, her agent sounded like a caring, observant person for the most part; in my opinion I think if she'd begged to stop, she would have been allowed to.

      Duckie was my favorite too. And I LOVED all dogs go to heaven. My son adored Land Before Time. He is 25 now, and I remember him watching every single sequel too. He would say, “little foot mama!” I miss those days so much.

      I don’t know… I do agree that kids should be allowed to be kids as long as they can, but, from all accounts, even though her mother pushed it at the start, Judith loved her work, and was cared for by the crews and casts of every project she worked on. I think if she’d said she wanted to stop, Maria may have been disappointed, but she’d have supported that choice.

    I was (still am) a huge fan of All Dogs Go To Heaven and the orginal Land Before Time, even though they both break me every time I watch them. Knowing Judith's story is going to make the emotional rollercoaster stronger next time I play either movie.
    And, being a big 90's country fan, the concrete angel quote on her gravestone was just so beautifully tragic and fitting for her.

All dogs goes to heaven have been my favorite show even till this day and hearing her voice sends haunting memories of what wrongfully happened to her.... Those fans and neighbor is just phenomenal as well as the director for those two shows, she's a beautiful young girl that put a smile on everyone's face INTERNATIONALLY because we have preserved her voice acting in these shows she throughout her life enjoyed acting in.
    I feel like she deserves to have her name heard for years to come even if people get tired of hearing about this case then they shouldn't be in the true crime community. We tell and retell for a reason, so it doesn't happen again, so it doesn't get forgotten....

    This was tough to listen to. Thank God there were moments of wit from you.
    I had my daughter in 1992. One of her favorite movies was Land Before Time, which I also enjoyed immensely. Ducky, of course, was our favorite character. Judith was already gone 4 yrs and I had no clue while I watched. Tragic.
    This hurts my core so deeply. It's so dark and creepy that this insecure monster could steal two lives away forever. Nvmd his, theirs had meaning and purpose. It's so beyond sickening.
    I am new to your channel as it was suggested through algorithm.
    The way you share these cases (this is the 2nd one I've watched)is far superior than any I've seen. Though this case and others are heartbreaking, your exceptional knowledge of psychology, paired with your wit and poignancy, makes them incredibly fascinating, as well.
    I am now a new subscriber.
    Thank you for not being afraid to show how you feel for not only the victims, but for not holding back on how you feel about the monsters.
    So many just stick to the stories and leave their feelings out. I like how you let it be known and I'm right there with you!
    Again, thanks!

    Wow Emma! 😢😢 I've listened to some terrible stories on your channel, where children go through unimaginable suffering. They hit me hard, but I don't think any story you've told has hit me straight in the heart. Such a senseless death. Judith was beautiful and the world was a brighter place with her in it. I think it hit so hard because I'm 48 and my youngest daughter is 10, I was also in an abusive relationship. When you talked about Judith waking up safe in the arms of her mother, it just broke me. Thank you for telling this story in such a sincere and heartfelt way. You've done Judith and her mother proud 🥺🥺

    This is so tragic. I'm trying to hold back tears. On the 15th of January a few years ago something similar happened in Dunedin New Zealand. Worked with the two beautiful souls that were shot by their father, luckily or not ( for their mother) , she managed to escape. The gunman ( father) killed himself.... Ellen the daughter, loved daisies and every year they flower in my garden ❤

    I was actually telling the story of her house being haunted at a Halloween party I hosted in 2020.
    A friend and I were discussing nostalgic movies from our childhood and they mentioned "all dogs go to heaven". I replied "yes, so sad what happened to that darling little girl." My friend asked what I meant and I said "did you ever notice the 'in memoriam' at the end of the movie? Dedicated to Judith Barsi?"
    They said no, and I told them it was an awful story, and in fact there had just been a story done about her old house.
    I was quietly telling the story to my friend, but didn't realize that the other guests had started listening in. I told them about what that horrible man did that to his own daughter, while the movie was still actually in production, and how the new owners kept finding and feeling cold spots in Judith's old room, and then they had discovered shortly after that it was there that poor Judith had been murdered in her sleep.
    I concluded with perhaps that was Judith's way of letting everyone know she was still around.
    The room was so silent you could hear a pin drop, and then unexpectedly, as if on cue, a painting I had hung on the wall earlier that day, gave a very dramatic and sudden tilt with an audible scrape, and made us all scream! People sincerely thought it was a prank I set up, but I swore up, down, and sideways that I hadn't! We joked maybe she knew we were talking about her, and decided to pop in and have some fun. We all told her she was more than welcome to stay, and thanked her for her work and our childhood memories. If she did, I sincerely hope she had fun.
    I am sincerely not trying to make light of what happened to her, I just always wondered at the coincidence of me happening to tell that story, people becoming so engrossed with it, and that painting just happening to move all in that particular order.
    The story had always haunted me for the longest time, and I felt so sad for that poor baby. I hope wherever she is, she's at peace and with her mama. ❤

    These extra Friday vids are such a brilliant surprise to see when they pop up on my feed😍 Can I just say Emma, I have such admiration for you - parenting a new born, writing books, designing merch., touring, researching, filming and more - I'm exhausted just thinking about it! Don't know how you fit it all in, I think there are two of you really, you have a secret identical twin 😅 Either that or you only sleep for 1 hour to be active for 23 ! However you do it I'd just like to say a big 'Thank You' 🤗

    We had a teacher who rapped hands with a special ruler (1980’s - she didn’t get the message either!). She would make kids hold their hands out…instinct makes you want to pull your hand away but if you did, you got extra slaps from the ruler…no one ever pulled away more than once! Evil woman.

    Emma, have you watched the UK channel 5 programme "my wife, my abuser: the secret footage" ? I cried watching it last night. Having grown up in a home where I didn't feel safe, seeing the footage was heartbreaking. Important, I think, for people to see how male victims of domestic abuse, at the hands of their wives, can be affected. On one hand, people might think "well why didn't he fight back, he was bigger than her" but had he fought back, he would have been seen as the aggressor. Awful story, he was subjected to the behaviour for over 20 years, and it was in front of their three young children too. Would be interested to hear your thoughts.
    Anyone else seen it? I am unsure whether it is available outside of the UK, so apologies to those who live elsewhere, maybe Emma will cover it at some point.
    Sending love to everyone xxx
