When you put yourself out there to help someone as an adult with another adult that you know needs help, and they don’t accept the help and still go back into that environment, it is hard to help someone in that situation. Even nowadays, it can still be hard to help someone who isn’t desperate enough to leave the situation. Not to mention this was in a time period where a lot of these things were not understood well by the public. So the adults stopped believing her because they weren’t educated about how women in abusive situations will act. I don’t think though that anyone can fathom why they didn’t take it way more serious with a child involved, even in those times. Like you said, it is really sad and tragic. 😔😔😔

Hailey Tanguay I never said the victim wanted to be there. I speak of this from experience when I failed to help a friend that I fought so hard to help escape from the situation. She got so scared that she ended up ruining the plan that I helped create with another friend that escaped from an abusive relationship, and she ended going back to him that day. Months after that, he did eventually got the idea and left her for another woman. She didn’t want to go back to him, but she didn’t have much of choice given her whole situation. I couldn’t help much as I wanted other than that plan since I still lived with my family and wouldn’t be very open on taking someone else in.

I remember hearing that the mother was told by a friend to move out, but that she refused due to not wanting to lose personal belongings. Also, CPS had tried to get Judith away from her situation, but her mother had said she was getting a divorce. Honestly, I would prioritize my personal safety and the safety of my child over material possessions.
People wanted to help Judith so much, but it's sad knowing that they couldn't.

Just hearing about how many times the mother and the girl told people about what happened in their house and noone taking them seriously seriously pisses me off. I personally had a friend in high school who's mother got into a relationship with my fathers eldest brother. My dads brother was a drunk, he ruined himself so much that he doesn't even resemble my dad or the rest of their brothers, an example would be that my dad and all of his brothers are big guys but his eldest brother was nothing but skin and bones. Anyway he never physically harmed my friend but he abused her mentally by always telling her that she would never amount to anything, that she dressed like a slut and always complained about her around me and the family. I never talked back to him because I was 17 and my family had brought me up to respect our elders but that all changed the week I turned 18, not even a week after my 18th birthday my friend calls me crying and begging me to help her and I try to ask her what was wrong but she wouldn't calm down, after a few minutes she finally said something, and It caused me to run over to her house Immediately, she said, "It won't stop bleeding" I didn't know what had happened then but frankly I didn't give 2 shits and after quickly grabbing some bandages and whatever medicine I could shove into my pockets I ran over to her house and entered her room, what I saw nearly sent me over. She was curled in the corner of her room, there was blood all over her body and she was clutching her wrist breathing hysterically. I patched her up and cleaned up as much as I could, while also taking the knife that was on her floor and shoving it into my pocket. After I got her to calm down and tell me what happened I told her to cover her ears and wait for me to come back in, I then closed her door and went into his room where he was laying on the bed acting like everything was fine and locked his door while I tried to talk with him, after a few minutes of him cutting me off in every subject relating to my friends, his step daughter's well-being and continuing to talk trash about her I couldn't take it anymore and beat the ever loving shit out of him. ( mind you I'm not that big, I'm a female about 110 pounds and a height around 5,7 and have no muscles to show for but the fact that I could have pushed and held him down says something about how badly he's trashed his body ) I was so angry that I wouldn't stop until he stopped talking over me and paid attention to what I had to say. Among other things I told him that it was either the alchohol or family and screamed in his ear to PICK ONE! after ensuring that my friend was safe by locking him in his room and removing any weapons he had into his garage and waiting for her mom to come home I walked back home and proceeded to cry like a baby. I'm not trying to paint myself as a hero or a good person. Main thing I am trying to say is, no matter how fake it may sound always take matters like abuse seriously and take action to ensure that your loved ones are safe! Because if you ignore obvious signals for help then your friend, family even acquaintance could end up like this poor girl and her mom. That man was a peice of shit and a coward for taking his own life afterwards.

Narcissists are the worst especially with addictions. Whether it is gambling, alcohol, drugs or both. You get people with addictions who are only a danger to themselves and are harmless as not everyone is awful. With the narcissists, addictions makes them even worse than they already are. They will scream so neighbours hear, they will smash property belonging to everyone but themselves. Someone you are supposed to rely on and grow from. Fortunately I have a great mother. Unfortunately not everyone had that such as Judith. Even with a good parent, they might not necessarily have the mental or physical strength to stop the other parent. One can say are partially to blame but life is not black and white despite what judges and the jury believe. They make snappy judgments such as taking away children from goof families for missing children, which does far more damage to a child than missing a bit of school as it destroyed a family and that child will end up being abused in various ways by other children and authorities in general. They also make children stay with abusive families despite the evidence and warnings by virtually everyone who knows the child. If someone protects the child, they get arrested for trying to do more for the child than the worthless authorities. Some people were just born to be awful people. Truly evil people. People say having villains be evil for the sake of it is cartoonish yet we live among like that. Where they had a good upbringing and everything but somehow they seek to harm people and destroy everything and everyone. It is more understanding (although not an excuse) if they suffered PTSD through an event or something that made cold towards people but I do not see how one can murder their own child or harm their loving wife/husband or whatever the status may be. I know their logic is warped and everything but killing your own kin for nothing is awful. Possibly some of the darker cases out there.

The thing where Judith breaks down while “all dogs go to heaven” was being made during Anne Marie’s song segment, Judith was looking at the song she had to sing which is basically about wanting a loving family with a nice mommy and daddy, which would be a perfect life contrast to Judith’s which is why they had to get another child to sing it because Judith couldn’t and would have a breakdown and begin to cry. This is probably because Anne Marie’s family and home situation is so much like hers and the song could have been how Judith felt which is very sad to think about. This caused concern so Judith would be taken to a child psychologist to talk about it so it makes sense. Poor little child, she never got that chance

Her story is sad but what more sad is all the people who failed her and the mom. The child was apparently exhibiting odd and depressed behavior because of it and failed to investigate. The Hollywood producers were more concerned about her missing work and losing money than about their safety.
The people who were aware of the dad abusing the mom and daughter naively turned a blind eye after the dad justified is actions as “normal discipline”. Hardly anyone bothered to check up on the mom and daughter.

My parents were what stifled my creativity.
My dad taught music professionally at one point and my mom is basically a groupie to this day. Dad's dead now and mom chases her boyfriend's Blues band around.
I was NEVER permitted to create my own music and was told it was "fake" by my parents. They didn't like rap. Dad called it "Jungle Jump."
Mom and dad wanted me to stick with drawing, which I have a natural talent for, but I hate doing it. I don't like to draw anymore. I wanted to make music, but they didn't understand my generation. I think they didn't want to be embarrassed by me. They were both well known in the music community and they didn't want their son emulating urban culture. It would make them look stupid.
I fought hard for many years to make my own music. You'd think my dad would teach me how to play a note. He never did. The guy who taught music for a living didn't teach his son, who was an aspiring musician, to play an instrument. Not at all. Instead, he was an obstacle.
I made quite a bit of my own music though. I taught MYSELF to play keyboard. Some of the instrumentals I made were really very good. Any time I composed a good tune, they thought I stole it or sampled it. They couldn't fathom that I created an actual piece of music. To them, it had to have been stolen. Remember, these people were not original artists, they are COVER BANDS. Dad may have taught music, but he didn't write it. I never heard an original song come from him. There was no real creativity on his part.
I came close to creating a good demo with rinky-dink equipment when I got my own apartment at age twenty-eight. The neighbor would always complain about the noise and shut me down. I couldn't continue making music. I never fully finished the demo. I have stuff recorded, but I would never release it. It's not finished.
I lost the apartment and had to move back in with my mom, who wouldn't allow my music there either. I eventually gave up on all my dreams completely. I have no ambition in life at all anymore. I'm too old.
I'm forty now. Dad is dead. Mom is in her seventies. She still chases her boyfriend's band around wherever they play. They are a Blues cover band.

I'm only a few minutes in, but wanted to correct some things:
    1. Maria was incredibly harsh with Judith and constantly coached her into being a "perfect" little girl. Judith didn't have a choice in whether or not to become an actress, so it's not really fair to say she liked it. She was living her mother's dream.
    2. Maria got together with Jozsef because he showered her with gifts. She stayed with him because she enjoyed the lifestyle he provided her.
    3. Maria took Judith to that skate rink regularly on purpose in hopes of Judith getting recognized by someone in the business. She had coached her daughter ahead of time to laugh loudly and act like she was having the time of her life.
    4. While Jozsef was solely to blame for the murders, of course Maria knew what he was capable of. She had seen him abuse her and Judith, had heard him threaten to burn the house down, and had countless warnings from concerned friends. It's not really honest to say that Maria "did everything right". She might have spoken to friends about what was happening, but when they encouraged her to leave and offered her a place to stay, she ignored it. They displayed their horror and concern, but she ignored it.
In fact, the one time she called police, was due to her abuse, not Judith's. There was no physical evidence, as the abuse hadn't been recent. Then she dropped the case.

Thank you for this comment. This is exactly what I was looking for in the comment section. When it is only you who is in that situation you are a victim, but when you bring a child into an abusive household/situation you become guilty of it as well. Saying that Maria had nothing to do with what happened or that she could not have not known is bullshit. She knew, she cared only for money and material items (even if it was just an excuse - she still stayed) instead of the safety of her child. I have seen this happen several times in real life, where women stay in abusive relationship and I know how hard it is to leave an abusive spouse/boyfriend, but the moment you have a child and you let the child suffer and see the child basically wither away - you are no longer a victim to me. Sorry, but she was deliberately staying in this situation (and I know women who left with nothing - Maria had money, had an apartment, had friends and family…), she was the person who could have taken her away, save her from her father, but she decided to stay instead and made the environment even FUCKING WORSE for her OWN DAUGHTER. To me she is guilty of Judith's death as well. Maria failed Judith in every way imaginable. The fact that she seemed to live her own dreams through her own daughter is just a cherry on top. JUDITH is the only real victim here, every adult around her failed her. This is so horrible, my heart breaks for this little innocent girl.

Where is the point where her maternal instinct to protect her kid came in? Instead she cared more about the house, jewelry, and material garbage ahead of her own daughters safety. And yes the case absolutely should have been followed up on to make sure she divorced her husband and the kid was safe.

Unfortunately, people living in an abusive relationship most often won't leave because they're afraid of what'll happen if they actually end up leaving. They're afraid that their partner ends up hunting them down and hurting and/or killing them and their children. They might also still love their wife or husband even though their family life might be pure hell and think that it might be better if they just stay. Judith's mother definitely should have taken her daughter and left while they had the chance, but in most cases it just doesn't happen. I grew up in an abusive household, my dad used to drink a lot. There were death threats, especially towards my mom. Christmases and all other holidays were hell, they were just an excuse to drink. Whenever he was drunk, I never knew exactly what would be going on at home when I came home from school. On two occasions we had to flee to the neighbor's house to call the police when he was getting out of control and breaking things. On so many occasions I wished they'd just divorce. They are still together to this day, and while he still sometimes drinks these days, it's nowhere near as bad is it used to be. Because of what my life was like growing up, I've sworn to myself that I'm never going to drink alcohol. I'm 32 and I've never had a single drop, and I'm much happier this way. Most importantly I never want to end up like my dad. I want to be better.

@@Duckkis I understand that abusive marriages (or relationships in general) can lead to this type of stuff
Where the abused doesn't wanna leave, either through Stockholm syndrome or through fear.
However If i find out my significant other has put a knife to my child's throat and threatened to kill me and her, I'm sorry but that's the final straw and I'd do anything in my power to not only get my child away from this person but to make sure that person is atleast legally punished
I know, I've never personally been in an abusive relationship and i understand the physiological effects of one. However surely there must be some line logically drawn, even if I was scared for my own life from this abusive partner, I would much rather risk my life if it meant saving my child.
Loving parents will do whatever it is they have to do if it means keeping their children safe, it's a natural parent instinct that I find hard to believe can be erased from an abusive relationship.
I'm not saying what happened was this mother's fault, however she definitely could have done alot more than she did. She doesn't deserve blame but her lack of actions still should be addressed as she still was a grownup with the responsibilitys of a parent

I went through child abuse and I sympathize so much with Judith, especially with her father physically threatening to kill her/cause her great bodily harm and then also how she was pulling her hairs out and having disordered eating. When you got to the part describing her breakdown while at the audition it hit so close to home for me.
I moved out of their house in my early teens and since then my parents- both were physically and mentally abusive- sought tons of help and treatment. They're completely different people now than they were and, though it took a lot of work I now have a good relationship with both of them. I wish more children going through abuse had the same experience, but, though it does happen, it's extremely rare and I hate that. I feel like a lot of times the abuse victims stay, just hoping that their partner or parent will change. I think that was a lot of Maria's problem- she wanted the man she fell in love with back and held on to the hope of that eventually happening- it just sucks so much how she and ESPECIALLY her daughter had to suffer because that was the choice she made. There were so many chances they had to get away and it kills me. Poor Judith was innocent and she was so utterly failed by both her parents

Judith could have been the biggest things going on in the acting career EVER, but this parasite (bad excuse) of an father stole her childhood's innocence and life.

You have to understand how abusers see the world. In their minds, they are fully realized human beings with every right to everything they want, and they may acknowledge some other people in their lives are the same, but their partner and their children are property. Their spouse is there to provide whatever they want whenever they want it - food, sex, housework, children, companionship, etc. Children are like cars - something to show off, to make themselves look better, and to serve their needs as well.
Abusers don't see their children as unique human beings with their own wants, needs, desires, etc. They are extensions of themselves, and if they deviate from what the abuser wants, or they stop being useful, then they are useless.
Joseph was resentful and jealous of his daughter because she was more successful than him. Which, on the one hand made him look good, but on the other hand it makes him look bad. Plus, her acting career gave both her and her mother an outlet to get away from him and have their own Independence, which is unacceptable, however he also needed the money to meet his own desires.
From that perspective, of course he was angry and conflicted and jealous. He didn't see Judith as a person, she was *his*. His property, his workhorse, and she was starting to defy him.

Hearing how stressed Judith was in her abusive household broke my heart, especially when you mentioned her plucking her eyelashes from anxiety. I also grew up in an abusive household (though thankfully much less extreme) and I've had that habit when anxious ever since I was about 2. Even over 2.5 decades later, it's hard to break. I know it's just one little detail, but I hadn't heard of other people doing it before, outside of documentaries that stigmatize people who do so.
Anyway, as many people have already noted, so many people failed this poor kid. She deserved so much better and deserved to still be alive today.
I had loved All Dogs Go to Heaven as a kid, and I still have fond memories of it now. It's sad that a movie which brought me comfort in my own difficult childhood is connected to a story of so much tragedy as Judith's.

it's so disgusting how people aways throw the blame in the woman/mom. A abusive relationship don't starts from nothing, the person who's being abusive spend a lot of time knowing about his victims, figuring out what are the victims weakness and then they start to manipulate them, to only then show the aggressiveness. The abuser mess the victims heads so hard, manipulate them so badly that even when they "can" get away, they can't really because they are too scared and thinks that the agressor is going to find them no matter what. I've been through this situation and i know very well how they mess with our heads, it's been almost one year and a half that i got out of that abusive relationship and i'm still dealing with his manipulation, everyday of my life. I frequently get completely horrified when someone gets mad or something, because that was a sign that he would punish me. So i can say for sure that is so easy to judge from the outside when you never been through this, but it's really not easy AT ALL dealing with this shit, it's really not just "i'm gonna runaway now and whatever", this is really serious.

It may seem dark and hopeless, but there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel. So keep fighting, and never lose hope. You will be okay.

honestly nothing would have been done. usually when neighbors do speak up the wife lies and says nothing is happening because they are manipulated. they provided her with a support system but maria was in too deep. they should have honestly only worried about saving the little girl because maria did not budge. i dont blame her, but priorities should always be to save the kids.

You can't put the blame on neighbors. Judith's mother had the chances and money to leave her husband, but she repeatedly got back with him. What could a neighbor have done?

One time I was talking to someone in their driveway. I guess their friend had come over for a visit and was sitting in her truck right next to us in the driveway. All of the sudden a car drives up. It's the woman's husband. He starts yelling at her and throws a wrench at the truck breaking the back window. He then opens the door, pulls her out by the hair and starts punching her. Eventually he leaves. We ask the woman if we should call the cops and she said no he does this because he loves me. Like people are really out there brainwashed.

I live next to an abusive household and for the past two years my mom and I have heard the man threaten his wife and kids. Literally heard him beat them. There isn’t a day where he isn’t screaming at the top of his lungs at them. The children are constantly crying. It’s disgusting the things we hear. I have called the police multiple times and nothing ever happens because every time the wife and husband say nothing is wrong. Even neighbors across the street have called. Their eldest daughter who was one of my friends ran away at 17 because of this. We called our landlord and she told them “your lease is up in a month if u don’t stop you’ll be kicked out”. It was quiet for that month but then went right back to normal. The last time I called they left a literal note on our window saying “stop calling we aren’t abusive to our son. We always uplift him. Yes we are loud sometimes but every family is loud” “just DEAL with it”. So now we are done calling because the wife chooses not to leave this abusive relationship with her children. You can’t help people who don’t want to be helped. Sometimes I’m afraid he’ll try to get into our house for calling the cops.

I’m outraged about the social worker. Their only responsibility was to make sure that baby was in a safe home. I’ve never heard of anyone’s case being dropped because of the promise of an abused wife. The least they could do is keep the case on the side and follow up just to make sure the escape was actually followed through with. Poor baby

What many of the comments about her mom not leaving are missing is that the mom was also being abused. In her normal state she would probably never put up with what he did but after years of physical and mental abuse a person is no longer themselves. It take immense courage to leave an abusive marriage once her identity, self esteem & spirit is crushed.

    • @jackbluehq6653

I think learning that your own spouse has put a knife to your daughters throat and threatened to kill her and you, it's enough courage to get the fuck outa there.
I get it, abusive relationships can do serious mental damage and make the abused not wanna leave due to Stockholm syndrome or fear
However surely there's a line to be crossed when it comes to the knife incident, loving parents have a natural instinct to do as much as they can to save their child even if it means having to face their fears and trauma. It's a natural instinct for loving parents that i find hard to believe can be erased by anything in general
I'm not saying she deserves any sort of blame, however at the end of the day she was a grownup wirh the responsibility of a parent and her lack of actions should still be addressed
The fact that she didn't immediately drop out after hearing about how he put a knife to her daughters throat is suspicious, especially since even when she had the opportunity to leave with that secret rented apartment she didn't because she didn't wanna let him have the house and other valuable possessions is also really suspicious and makes me believe that she might not have cared as much as she should have over her child
As a parent, your child's life should be more valuable than any objects or property, I get that letting the abusive husband have all the stuff sounds horrible, however there's no excuse for her decision to stay due to not wanting to let him have the property
Like I said, she shouldn't be blamed for this tragedy but her lack of actions definitely needs to be and is totally fair to adress
