Hi. As a pilot and aircraft mechanic for more than 30 years, I would say the Cessna 182 is on the top of my personal list without a doubt. The older Cessna182s with the Continental 470 normally aspirated engine are rock solid, easy to fly, and can carry a ton of weight long distances. Almost the perfect all around general aviation airplane. So if there is someone out there looking to purchase an airplane they want to keep their entire flying career the Cessna 182 is your plane. Love the channel, keep up all the great work. Hawk out!!

Be careful when buying a used plane with G1000. Two versions out there: with and without WAAS. There is no upgrade path (except for replacing the entire G1000). If you check the market you will see for example ten 182 planes with G1000. Nine don't have WAAS and the tenth says sale pending.

I like how the C-182 in the video was a Civil Air Patrol Cessna 182. It was the first plane I've flown and I also flew it with the Civil Air Patrol. Probably one of my favorite planes

Love the CAP 182, I’m a CAP pilot, and live a few miles from where Cessna builds the 182, Independence, KS. one note, the 182 is not a complex aircraft (unless you’re in an RG), it’s a High Performance, aircraft (200+HP).

I cannot believe the Socata Trinidad TB20 or 21 have not made your list, especially considering the mission parameters, training, cross country. Among the most affordable from under a 100k upwards, perfect for training for complex and IFR licences, arguably the best IFR equipped platform of all that made your list, (glass panels do not count) as never seen one under 250k for sale, most spacious cabin of all and the only true 4 seat full fuel cross country performer next to the 235 but far better on fuel, quicker! and flies further around 200 miles further, it also comes with autopilot as standard which was a pay for option on the 235. It is so stable and forgiving a student pilot could learn on it from the get go.

I'm 6'6'' and find the smallest airplane I fit into comfortably is a 182.
What would you say are the downsides or disadvantages of learning to fly in a high-performance airplane like a Cessna 182?
I am just assuming since this is a larger, faster, slightly more complex airplane (due to the constant-speed prop) it will be a "little" more complicated and take a little longer to learn in. Other than the higher cost to rent is there any reason NOT to learn in the 182 and just stick with the standard 172 or Cherokee even if I'm cramped and uncomfortable?

Hello Mike! In my modest opinion, I would add the Piper Tomahawk: it is not a fast airplane, but it was specificaly developed by Piper from USAF request for a trainer. Some CFI´s say that you must be very accurate to fly it because it´s not very forgiving. I personally flew some hours in one, and compared to the Archer (an airplane from the Cherokee platform), you must be sharper to fly it. BTW, i like very much your channell and it was one of my first subsriptions to one. With nothing more to say, i´d like to send you a big hugg from northern patagonia, Argentina. Cheers.
