I have learned to love tough climbs too. Just like you said climbing makes me better. Little bit of suffering is good and the following downhill is always a nice reward.
Great to see you riding some of my local trails Brian. As someone who just got into MTB this year, I love watching your videos. Added bonus of realizing how much land I have to enjoy in my own backyard!
Sweet trails, definitely requires total concentration! Your confidence picked up, great speed and ability of weaving through the mountain furniture! Awesome!
Eagle is super fun and underrated. I like it more than the north shore stuff. Full Pull is an awesome trail from the top of Eagle next time you are up! Long descent!
Great video. I love the look of these trails you've been posting the last few weeks. Socal has a different look. I did get to retrace some of your Tahoe maps over the holiday weekend. Thanks for update.
BK-XC I'd love to but I'm currently nursing a broken hand and a concussion from Sunday's adventure on Fromme. I'll get back to it soon enough. You've inspired me to ride different trails not just the same few. Thanks!
hey B-man. Neat video as usual and very handy info about thar riding area. it looks like you had a good time in B.C. and those two cubs completed your tour. Cheers and Ride on.
I have 800's on my Altitude in the video. Tight squeeze sometimes for sure. Had such a great time riding with Brian and showing him some of my favorite trails. Wish we had more time to see even more.
If you plan a trip to the East Coast you should check out Western North Carolina (Brevard, Asheville, Boone). Huge variety of trails within a short distance (Dupont, Pisgah and couple of bike parks).
@5:53 . Were you running a 1X drivetrain? Narrow Wide Chain ring? If so, then i'm surprised it slipped off. Then is it recommended to get a Chain Guide no matter what for 1X systems?
They are made with split cedar so they are fairly rough, hold up for a long time and are very grippy. I've ridden those trails in monsoons and a foot of snow and haven't washed out yet... oh yeah and stay off the brakes ;-)
it's funny because the guy in front looks all smooth like he's going over non bumpy terrain, and your ride is rocking and rolling. I'm sure if the camera was attached to him we would hear and see the same stuff. is he riding a 29er? crazy how you are rocking your brothers bike for the trip. nice pivot
I LOVE my RM Altitude. 27.5 wheels make a big difference to being able to roll over stuff. Plus I run my tires tubeless with only about 25 psi in them which helps absorb the small bumps. Can't do that with tubes for risk of pinch flats. My 1x10 drivetrain with XTR clutch rear derailleur is super quiet as well. No rattle at all.
My abilities DEFINITELY improved riding these tough trails. The best advice is to ride with someone who knows the area and can give you some tips. I ride stuff blind all the time and do fine, but it's nice to have a little advice on how to tackle features.
Same here! Last couple days of September and into October. I think we'll have some kind of meet up SOMEWHERE if you want to come say hi! I'll let Seth plan it out, but I'll share it on my Facebook and Instagram.
Well, I had an X7 (SRAM - no clutch) derailleur fall apart after exhibiting similar behavior on one of my sons bikes. Out of nowhere it started dropping the chain more and more under normal riding conditions. I could not see anything wrong with it, but then it came apart at the pivot and puked it's guts all over the trail shortly after. I hate having chain/derailleur issues on the trail as it is often a ride ender.
just out of curiosity how do you mic your voice during these rides, i use a gopro hero 3 silver but it doesn't seem to pick up my voice when i talk while recording
ok i see you use a wind buff to stop wind noise, i tend to use the full waterproof gopro case with my setup since it rains alot where i ride, but the case muffles sound, will have to research another way to record voice without drowning my camera :)
another cool vid mate, a question for you. Is that a mate of yours or does he have a mtb guide business? I apologise if you have mentioned this in another video.
+BK-XC I'm compiling some websites for you with trail info on them. also some aussie mags that have trail write ups. hopefully it gives you some good info.
Hope it's not ! but it sounds like every nut and bolt on that bike is loose . I imagine when it's air born it all comes apart and reassembles before landing!!!
man this whole wheel size jazz is wearing me out in your opinion do you notice a big advantage in 27.5 over 26 ? i ask because you dont get wrapped up in all the tech jazz and stuff. you just rely on what feels good. i have a 2010 trek top fuel 8 with 26 in wheels and have been thinking i may upgtade but havent convinced myself to just yet thanks man
Haha, yeah it's endless. Go for a test ride on a new bike and you'll know for yourself! If it's not that different then just stick with what you've got.
Awesome as always! Much envy is had!
Thanks Cooper!
I have learned to love tough climbs too. Just like you said climbing makes me better. Little bit of suffering is good and the following downhill is always a nice reward.
Definitely! Gotta earn it!
Love all those skinnies and smooth climbs!
Pretty fun stuff!
Great to see you riding some of my local trails Brian.
As someone who just got into MTB this year, I love watching your videos.
Added bonus of realizing how much land I have to enjoy in my own backyard!
Fantastic, man! Glad you found the channel!
Excellent trails, excellent video. Thanks!
Thanks dude!
Awesome, so many little hits everywhere you look...
Disneyland for stunts!
Sweet trails, definitely requires total concentration! Your confidence picked up, great speed and ability of weaving through the mountain furniture! Awesome!
Definitely built my confidence every day on this trip!
I really love your vids. Especially cause I am also from the Bay Area so it's nice to see vids of local trails
Nice!
Love the Bears! Love the trails. Great videos. Need more, I think I've watched all of them!
Thanks so much Jeff!
enjoyed every single second of the video! amazing ride, amazing trails!!
Thanks man! Glad you liked it.
just keep getting better and better nice video Brian
Thanks Steve!
Eagle is super fun and underrated. I like it more than the north shore stuff. Full Pull is an awesome trail from the top of Eagle next time you are up! Long descent!
Next time indeed! Glad you enjoyed the vid.
man, killer trails, bears, etc. what a ride!
Thanks Steve, it was!!
Great video. I love the look of these trails you've been posting the last few weeks. Socal has a different look. I did get to retrace some of your Tahoe maps over the holiday weekend. Thanks for update.
Thanks dude! Glad you were able to get out and ride some of the spots I love!
You've rode a wider variety of trails in BC than I have and I've lived here for a decade. Great videos, keep them coming.
Haha, get out there, buddy!
BK-XC I'd love to but I'm currently nursing a broken hand and a concussion from Sunday's adventure on Fromme. I'll get back to it soon enough. You've inspired me to ride different trails not just the same few. Thanks!
Get well soon, dude!
Awesome trails, that rental bike was rattling like crazy.
Hahaha, yes it was.
Your videos have ruined all other mountain biking videos for me. I mean that in the best way. Top notch stuff. Good job!
Hahaha, thanks dude.
hey B-man. Neat video as usual and very handy info about thar riding area. it looks like you had a good time in B.C. and those two cubs completed your tour. Cheers and Ride on.
Thanks so much!!
Woah, I never knew BKXC has rode my local trails. That’s so cool
Yeah buddy!
Great blog keep up the good work 👍👍👍
Thanks man!
Oh my gosh just found this channel and am in love, great content dude!!!!
Thanks bud! Tell a friend!
Man that's one tight area trees are close together.. Great ride thumbs up.. Be blessed
Haha, yep, I think I would be having some real trouble with my 800mm Santa Cruz handlebars!
Lol 800mm you would scraping your hands off the trees. be blessed
I have 800's on my Altitude in the video. Tight squeeze sometimes for sure. Had such a great time riding with Brian and showing him some of my favorite trails. Wish we had more time to see even more.
Did you ride the Whistler Bike park? or just the lost lake trails when you were there?
Top of the World was the only thing I rode in the park! I released that video a while back, this is part of the same trip.
nice riding! good endurance and skills
Thanks bud!
Its great that you're doing so well man! happy for you. Keep these up its really entertaining 👍
Thanks man!
Those trails look rough AF! Even the best clutch derailleur in the world would be noisy there. Nice show of skills.
Hahaha, that clutch was worn out beforehand, it's jello now!
That is some serious xc mountainbiking! Just hit' subscribe. Cheers from the Netherlands.
Thanks man! Glad you found me!
your bike got a work out!! Nice ride.
Yeah it did! Thanks dude
Bear cubs in BC, you can't beat that. Good tip in there, make sure mummy bear is around!
Haha, always on the lookout!
If you plan a trip to the East Coast you should check out Western North Carolina (Brevard, Asheville, Boone). Huge variety of trails within a short distance (Dupont, Pisgah and couple of bike parks).
Hell yes I will! I keep hearing about it.
Nice trail man! Looked like it had a nice pay off for all that climbing :)
Serious amount of sweat for that sweetness!
sweet trail. I bet that enduro would have gobbled up those rock gardens :)
Haha, you know it!
I live there. I wish I could have ran into you when you were here. And I don't know why I haven't seen this yet
Nice!
I used to live there but now I live in Cali and this video makes me really miss it😩😭 definitely subbing tho
Yeah, some great stuff up there but I still love Cali more!
Hi Brian, this is very close to where i live. I would love to be in your videos if you come back LOL
Incredible how noisy are the bikes with front derailleur when you're used to ONE-BY! Nice video by the way! ;-)
Hahaha, super noisy. Damn rear derailleur clutch is junk on that bike.
+BK-XC I noticed that too! I thought it was just me... But yeah, it definitely sounds like you're on a much noisier bike today.
Just saw the tshirt video...Damn I missed it! I'm going to reserve one just in case you do another run.
Haha, I'll probably get something going again when I hit 10k subs!
@5:53 . Were you running a 1X drivetrain? Narrow Wide Chain ring? If so, then i'm surprised it slipped off. Then is it recommended to get a Chain Guide no matter what for 1X systems?
Nope, this is a 2x bike with a bum rear derailleur clutch.
great video
Thanks g!
Do you like riding all those board walks? Around here(Virginia) if it is wet they a very slippery
Yeah they were dry as a bone so it was fun! I don't know how they do it when it's wet.
I'm sure if the camera was attached to him we would hear and see the same stuff. is he riding a 29er? crazy how you are rocking your brothers bike for the trip. nice pivot
Haha I thought the same thing! He's on a 27.5 Rocky Mountain Altitude.
Ahhh.... Beautiful British Columbia, My Home... Did You Do Burnaby Mountain / SFU? I Live Near There...
Yeah, we did that as a warm up ride the first day! But no video.
Cool! At least you were there! do you remember what trails you rode?
Awesome video bro
Thanks man!
next time you are in Canada you should try out Burke mountain
It was on the list but just fell below the cut off!
Can you compare the Pivot Mach 5.7C to some of the newer bikes you have ridden?
It's great, definitely worth picking one up used if you can find it.
As you are riding all these new trails are you finding that your new trail abilities are improving? Do you have any tips for riding a brand new trail?
My abilities DEFINITELY improved riding these tough trails. The best advice is to ride with someone who knows the area and can give you some tips. I ride stuff blind all the time and do fine, but it's nice to have a little advice on how to tackle features.
👌🏽👍🏼🚴🏾 pain AND pleasure 😅
Yeah buddy!
Keep going
Another great video B! When are you and @sethbikehacks hooking up for the mystery ride?
We're heading to Moab! Gonna be great.
+BK-XC nice. When are you guys going? My wife and I will be there last week of this month?
Same here! Last couple days of September and into October. I think we'll have some kind of meet up SOMEWHERE if you want to come say hi! I'll let Seth plan it out, but I'll share it on my Facebook and Instagram.
Having issues with the chain coming off ? Multiple times ? If I recall correctly you were riding your brothers bike in BC. What drivetrain ?
Yeah, the clutch on the XTR derailleur isn't quite doing it's job.
Haha, always something!
The bike sounded like its falling apart...lol
Haha, it survived British Columbia!
just out of curiosity how do you mic your voice during these rides, i use a gopro hero 3 silver but it doesn't seem to pick up my voice when i talk while recording
I use the GoPro mic. Check out my video gear link in the description!
ok i see you use a wind buff to stop wind noise, i tend to use the full waterproof gopro case with my setup since it rains alot where i ride, but the case muffles sound, will have to research another way to record voice without drowning my camera :)
btw i really enjoy your rides / channel, many an hour spent enviously watching you ride fantastic trails in glorious sunshine
Yeah, the sound with the waterproof case is not good, getting it naked and exposed is fantastic.
do you need a gimbal for the chest mounts?
I use a gimbal for the chest mount but you don't need one.
Ok thanks.
hmm i didn't know that my favorite youtuber was biking near my house
this trail is literally in my backyard
Did you ever consider riding burke Mt while you were in BC
It was on the list but the other rides we did were ahead of it.
Next time you come, we will hit Burke. Great stuff there.
hey cool a BKXC video I haven't seen, and there's BEARS?!
Hahaha nice
Hahaha nice
Another epic ride in BC territory. Well done! So envious your livin the dream. What guiding company did you use?Cheers
Just a friend that lives up in BC and rides a ton!
another cool vid mate, a question for you. Is that a mate of yours or does he have a mtb guide business? I apologise if you have mentioned this in another video.
Just a buddy that lives there! I bet there are guide services up there though.
+BK-XC I'm compiling some websites for you with trail info on them. also some aussie mags that have trail write ups. hopefully it gives you some good info.
Nice!
hey.. Sorry if this has been asked bit do you use a gimbal?
Yup yup, check the link in the description!
Thankyou :)
Are you running an External microphone?
Nope, just the GoPro. Video gear link in the description.
Very good audio, I used the settings you use and it makes a massive difference when down scaled to 1080p
Sweet!
Hope it's not ! but it sounds like every nut and bolt on that bike is loose . I imagine when it's air born it all comes apart and reassembles before landing!!!
Hahahaha, like a god damned cartoon! Just the friggin chain.
What bike are you riding here? Pretty sure it's not your new one?
He's riding. Pivot Mach 5.7, his new bike is a Santa Cruz Bronson
Yup yup, Baylor's got it.
What's your strava
It's in the trail guide link in the description and it's on my about page.
what happened to your chain?
The clutch on the rear derailleur doesn't quite work so it's always slappin!
great trail and i just subscribed. can you try a wet trail next?
Wet won't work with the camera!
Snow not much other than whistler in the places you visited. Vancouver gets little it any. Similar to Seattle,
Better or what else would you like fixed?
Yeah I heard that as well, Vancouver is the warmest city in Canada apparently.
👍 📹
:D
why is the bike so noisy??
Bad clutch on the derailleur.
As usual 👍🏼🚵💥
Thanks Dean, appreciate it!
What's your twitter?
@kennedyish
Rapscallions! Haha!
Hahaha yep
That's where I live
Nice!
nice video, you gor my sub :p
Thanks my man!
man this whole wheel size jazz is wearing me out in your opinion do you notice a big advantage in 27.5 over 26 ? i ask because you dont get wrapped up in all the tech jazz and stuff. you just rely on what feels good. i have a 2010 trek top fuel 8 with 26 in wheels and have been thinking i may upgtade but havent convinced myself to just yet thanks man

Sleep, calories, you left out "editing":)
Haha yep!
ur fork sounds like a jackhammer in the first clip
It's hard work!!
Brian, you must stop dabbing in your videos, lol. Only joking mate, foot down is all good!
Haha, nobody's perfect!
Dude, you'd smoke me on the trail - Never a more apt time for you to say "...see ya..." on the trail ;)
